Answer:  Yes.

*waves*  Hello Arkrim.

I love magic in games, as long as there's some organization, or rules.  When it's too vague, it gets more frustrating than anything else.

Re: Arkrim's Room

I agree. But I've always been a fan of medium to low-magic settings. However, the problem with these settings is most games have character options which gear towards high magic and these sort of break the game for the GM who has to constantly account for a player's ability to snap their fingers and conjure whatever they want. Stories are much more intriguing when players DON'T have piles of magic at their disposal.

So yeah, I always like to have some limitations. When I run d20 games on tabletop I tend to houserule that no one can be a full caster class. If they want to cast spells, they have to be half-caster half-anything else (multiclassed, for those of you who know what I'm talking about).

ah, I'm a freeformer, but yes, no high-amount of magic, that would be unfair...

But all my freeform characters magic is flawed, as in use too much, and they go berserk, or sleep for 24 to 48 hours in a sort of coma...

But yeah, freeformers have different ways of measuring 'too much' also...

Re: Arkrim's Room

Freeforming is a bit, well, "free" to declare what magic is available and what isn't. It's pretty easy to deal with just saying your magic is only X strong. But you'll probably still need a numerical scale at some point to inform your freeformers what their limits are (such as saying telekinetics can only lift about 1,000 pounds not an entire building or pyrokinetics can only burn up to about a typical room-sized area and not an entire city block).

Well, that or you just have the GM popping in and saying "no you can't do that" every time a player godmodes. >_<

yeah, you see, this is why I always start my people with training threads, their powers are in baby-shoes, and when I get a PM from GM, that it's too much, I back it down, or make the character go berserkish...

after that, I have a power ruler

Yes, there needs to be rules, or else the game needs to be something where rules don't matter.

Something like Amber, where massive powers can run wild, but still not break the game, or else a game where powers are strictly regulated.

I'm in a game where I tried to have a "spell list", but it quickly became clear that everyone else just had "magic" and did whatever spells they needed.
I was very frustrating.

Re: Arkrim's Room

Yeah, if and when I do play freeform I like to limit magic based on themes.

For example, one character can be a FIRE mage and can only do things which we would expect a pyromancer to do.

Anyone who selected "generic wizard" can have all the powers they want, but they're half as powerful as everyone else and thus in any 1v1 competition, they lose almost every time (even though what they are capable of is vastly more versatile).

Of course, even when I free form there's always a "maybe you can, maybe you can't, flip a coin". Anyone who wanted to be more versatile than their allies (wizard instead of pyrokinetic, superman instead of hulk) flips two coins and takes the worst result (but only when utilizing their powers against other people's powers, in normal contests they flip a coin normally and in contests of powers vs. non-powers they automatically succeed just like their allies). So I guess I never really go 100% free form but that's pretty damn close.

Re: Arkrim's Room

Interesting.  Not a bad idea.

My view is that the best freeform games are ones that aren't about power, but about the characters and the plot, so that the character's power levels should be irrelevent.

And I've never liked player vs player scenarios, but that's just me.

Re: Arkrim's Room

Oh by "1v1" I mean vs. another creature or obstacle. Not necessarily PvP. It could be vs. NPCs, Monsters, Robots, Traps, Environment Hazards, etc.
1v1 is when you're in a competition or conflict with someone or something rather than just doing something to do it (build a car, dance in the studio, make finger puppets).

I like to focus on story as well, but it's frustrating to share a spotlight with someone who has ALL the superpowers ever and any time you try to do something they can always get to it first. Superman-like characters and Wizard-characters often steal the spotlight from other players in freeform because they can do anything and everything that everyone else can do...only better.

This leads to a lot of godmoding and glory-hogging as well as player jealousy. I hate that. So I use the coin flip to give other players a chance to shine. Where the wizard and superman always have a tool appropriate for the situation, they will never be as powerful at any one field.

Take some superheroes for example:

Iceman, Human Torch and Dr. Strange (a wizard character) are teamates. They are fighting a fire elemental. Iceman has an obvious advantage so anything he does to harm the creature is considered an automatic success. Human torch is at a disadvantage so he has to flip 2 coins and take the worst result. Dr. Strange is a wizard and never had advantages or disadvantages in any scenario and always just flips a coin to determine success.

Reverse the scenario where they fight an ice elemental. Now iceman has the disadvantage (2 coin flips, take the worst) and Torch has the advantage (autosuccess). The wizard has no special benefits so continues to flip 1 coin.

Now take an average scenario where they fight an earth elemental. Nobody has special advantages so they all flip 1 coin for each successful maneuver or ploy.

You can apply this to noncombat scenarios as well. Torch and Iceman both like to joke around and be goofy they have a set-in-stone personality type. Dr. Strange has chosen to be stern and enigmatic. So Torch and Iceman have the "advantage" in party situations or when talking to kids while Strange has a disadvantage. However, when speaking with Professor Xavier or another stern serious type these advantages and disadvantages are reversed.

Just stuff like that. It's not complicated and merely judging someone's powers as "advantageous" to the circumstances or "disadvantageous" or "neither" is pretty easy and only takes the most basic of common sense (or a GM ruling).

ah...

In all my freeforming, I've been allowed three 'powers' and I always go for the fire-element, as I'm a sucker for fire and fire added to explosives... Basically a walking torch...

But I game vampires (Not the glitering bitches kind) or fey (unseelie, as I like my soul as dark as my sis' coffee I don't drink coffee...)

I used to do Harry Potter, but I couldn't deal with the angst, so I keep to nonhuman nowadays...

Re: Arkrim's Room

Superhero, high fantasy, scifi or vampires, it helps if the GM is careful to keep scenarios diverse so that each player with their own unique array of powers and skills and even personality quirks has their turn in the spotlight.

It also helps to spot godmoders when you set up a scenario where they'd normally be weaker and they do not roleplay it (such as a water monster attacking the pyromancer and the player just continues to 'kill it with fire' ignoring the fact that it's made of water).

and the GM did nothing to stop the power-hungry knat, I was so disappointed

Re: Arkrim's Room

Yeah, it's not fun because godmoders aren't actually participating with anyone. They're just talking about themselves rather than interacting. Ruins it for everyone. Games with rules help to stop that but then you get the opposite problem: a rules lawyer. It's difficult to walk the path between the two nuisances. It's always best to just have a good GM.

Though, you're right, the typical romance movies of "two people who spend two hours to get laid" can get old.

Still, I get to get all weepy and sentimental at movies.

Getting weepy? Pssh that's what drama, particularly action drama in war movies where your favorite character get DEAD near the end, is for. Or possibly sweet coming of age stories where a main character is killed out of no where and tragically brings the rest of the story/characters together.

why can't it be about two strong people figting together to survive, and then they get each other, male and female or male and male or female and female?

why does someone always have to be the weak one?

True, the "the weak woman needs to be protected" cliche is getting really old, and hopefully it's slowly changing a bit.
Though no matter how strong everyone is and how equal they are in a movie, I still want them to get laid.  :)

Re: Arkrim's Room

You need a weak individual to contrast a heroic individual. Otherwise the title of "hero" is meaningless. The "weak ones" do not have to be the romantic interests, but the heroes have to be protecting someone vulnerable somewhere. So if the romantic interest is not a "damsel in distress" of some sort they must be their own hero in the story or be a supporting role for the hero.

"Get laid" has a very heartless adult ring to it. There is no romance or chivalric love involved in "getting laid" you know. Some romance and/or sexual tension can't/shouldn't involve sex itself or it would ruin the plot. For example, a romantic story of a very young couple (still children) would have an innocent naive feel to it. Sex would not only be disturbing at that young of an age, it may get you a few phone calls and visits from some police. :/

I prefer to root for an overall well-crafted plot regardless which may or may not use "getting laid" or "damsel in distress" as plot points. The call on that really varies a lot from story to story.

Re: Arkrim's Room

*smiles*   Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so callous or heartless by the phrase "get laid".  I meant it humorously, in that no matter what the story is, I always want the hero to find true love at the end of the movie, no matter if it's with the person they were protecting, the person they were fighting with side by side, or someone else who's deserving.

And certainly the person that the hero rises to protect doesn't need to be the love interest.   And the "person in distress" can even be the hero themselves, as the protagonist works to become the hero they need to be.

Ah, I suppose. But even then "true love" may be inappropriate to a dark twisted story or a story that intentionally has a tragic ending.

Sometimes. Although, usually when the main character plays the "damsel in distress" the audience hates it. Look at a Twilight. I realize there are a lot of other things to criticize about it, but one of the main complaints is that everyone thinks Belle is pathetic and winy. Damsel in distress. :/

well... she is the whiny damsel in distress that causes a war and almost kill all the vampires...

so that's why she is so annoying, she is whiny and doesn't care that she almost kills them all...

it is a tragic story... really, she literally kills herself and others to be with the one she loves, she sacrifises everything, just to be turned and live forever, that's just sad in so many ways

Chris Hansen was a reporter who's most famous work recently was a show called "To Catch a Predator", where he and the police set up stings for pedophiles, having an undercover cop pretend to be an underage boy or girl, luring them to a house.

The pedophile came to the house of what they thought was a sexually active 13 year old, and while they were waiting in the kitchen for the "kid" to come down, Chris Hansen would come out of a side room and start interviewing them.
He'd ask questions like "Why are you here to have sex with a 13 year old girl?"   "If you're not here for that, why did you bring a six pack of wine coolers and a box of condoms?"

The guy would cringe and try to weasel his way out of the situation, denying everything, and fooling no one, then try to run away to the outside, where police would grab him.

It was a fascinating show, in a horrifying kind of way.

Indeed. It was an interesting show. And the show itself helped police catch pedophiles which is actually a boon to society rather than being pure entertainment.

And to be honest, since I find pedophiles to be one of the scummiest of scum of the earth, I have a sadistic enjoyment watching them get chased down and handcuffed.

Also why they are good for great shock humor jokes.

In a way, any job that involves people involved Psychology.  And Sales isn't any different.  You study people, working to give them what they want, and to avoid what they don't.   You can study body language and other cues to see what the best way is to approach them and to help them.

It's fascinating.   You probably already know a lot about it.  :)

Ah, poutine.  It's one of the foods on my list that I have to have when I go and visit Canada.  It's probably an acquired taste but I prefer to think of it as a guilty pleasure.  It's basically French Fries with Gravy and cheese, and you can get it with pulled pork, beans, chicken, curry whatever else can be added.

Actually, one of the things that I miss about living in Canada is the multi-cultural atmosphere around food.  I used to live in an area with a large Chinese population so there was really good sushi and noodles.  It's fun to try out different foods and combinations.

Poutine is a good example.  It's funny but when I tell people my American coworkers what it is, they get all grossed out, and yet these are the same folks that like to eat Chili Cheese fries.

American Cuisine certainly includes a lot of fried and/or cheese covered food.  :)

but there's plenty of 'home cooking' in America, too.  though we have so much variety that it can be hard to find.  It varies according to where you are.

And, being a country that prides itself (sometimes ironically) as a country of immigrants, sometimes the 'local' food can have a strong 'foreign' flavor, like the "Tex-Mex" food here in Texas, which is a mix of Mexican food and Texas barbeque.

I'm no expert in Native American cuisine, though they had a lot of simple things, like corn, fish and buffalo.
Much the Mexican food here is a direct off shoot of what the Native peoples of Central America and the Southwest of America did.

But you're right, "American" food is a bit vague, depending on what you mean.
I'm thinking of modern American culture, but we could consider the food eaten by the Natives when the Europeans arrived.

I've actually had a lot of LBGT characters on rpol.   Mostly T, to be honest, but I've had some of each.

And, as I'm sure you know, comics is a very male oriented medium, devoted mostly to young boys or men who are young boys at heart, so they prefer the men in charge, traditionally, and the 'girls' helpful and cute.
Things are changing a bit, of course, and there have always been exceptions, like Wonder Woman, and how the Invisible Girl became The Invisible Woman eventually.

I read The phantom the most, it's big in Scandinavia and Australia, but not in USA

anyway, he is a symbol than can be played by anyone, there is always a male Phantom, but if this male phantom is sick or kidnapped, his wife or sister ooor someone strong enough takes up his clothes and does anything to save him and keep up appearances

as the phantom never dies, and he can turn into animals, he can turn into anything he wants

and so on so forth

so I've been taught to respect all genders from that comic, everyone does their best and mostly their best is awesome, but anyway :)

I am glad things change, if it didn't, it'd be scary

Yes, I'm very happy things are slowly changing for the better.   i know many people are fighting it, though.   Especially here in my part of America.   Texas is really bad about "old fashioned traditions" that keep the status quo.

I read The Phantom comic strip as a kid.   My dad liked it, too.   I assume you  mean "The Ghost Who Walks"?

I've seen that as very male oriented, but I'm glad the girls got to play a part, too.

It's still hard to get screen time and comic time, for woman, gay characters, and other minorities, despite everything, but I'm glad that things are progressively moving to more equality.

and not the odd movie they made, because it was odd...

I mean the man that when he talks everyone listens, he uses 10 tigers strength, the jungle whispers his name

and so many more jungle-sayings that are repeated in every comic :)

It has been very female-oriented lately, very touchy feely, I almost rage-quit when they killed his wife, but that was just feelings

I'll admit I haven't been keeping up with the story, and the local paper doesn't carry it, sadly.

(not that i read the paper often, either)

The movie was, unfortunately, an attempt to make a 'superhero' movie out of the Phantom, written by someone who either didn't understand the character, or let someone higher up change everything to make it more 'movie like'.

It would have been better to make a more down to earth version, perhaps set in the 30s.

well they took the first comic of The phantom and tried to make it into a movie, and well...

They should have picked a better story, the first one was sell it all, and I don't like it, but there is many many amazing story-lines, they could have picked anyone of them

also, the costume was all wrong, there is no artsy waves in the fabric of the phantoms costume, and it is blue, not purple, blue like the shadows in the jungle, purple makes no sense...

But yes, the kids are starting to be rather old, so the story-lines is concentrating on them and what if the new phantom have to be already, like the 21st phantom has been the main character for the past... well, forever

ah, apparently it's blue in Scandinavia, purple in USA and Australia, red in France, Italy, Spain and Brazil and a yellowish-brown in New Zealand

Because they were printed by different printers, and there was not clear enough guide-lines

anyway, everyone has understood that The Phantom doesn't kill, he only shoots guns out of peoples hands and kicks the shit out of them :)

I still think red is a really odd choice for his uniform...

NASCAR is auto racing.    Usually many laps around a track in cars going 200 kph or so.   I think it's as boring as, well, watching cars drive around in a circle,  but there are many dedicated fans here (the plentiful beer at the events might have something to do with it).
In recent years, it's gotten a reputation for fans loving the occasional fiery crash more than the races.

I'm not a fan of boxing either.    I'm reminded of the old joke:  "It's weird that we live in a country where masturbation is considered 'self abuse', but where boxing is a sport."

Thst sounds very cool, but I can see where it could be confusing.     Our language borrowed from so many others that we can have the same word meaning very different things when it's pronounced differently.

Like "throwing leaves into the 'wind'" and "be sure to 'wind' your clock"

Or

"Take you 'bow' and arrows and go to the 'bow' of the ship."

Or words that sound the same, despite being totally different things.

Like
"After I realized how much the bag 'weighed', I had to 'wade' into water to get it."

talking to myself is just odd, I have had a powerful character with an assistant that the powerful character abuses, a lot, so I usually play the assistant, to make sure no one will get hurt, but I end up killing them off pretty soon, it's very awkward talking to yourself

there used to be a gamer that liked playing my targets thought, he followed me, I say 'he' as the gamers always played males, I don't differentiate

and I know it is an odd way to look at it, but I have this odd way off shrugging off problems in game, not in life, I carry wrongs and mistakes for years, wishing I'd done differently, so I try to make a dream version of how I want to be, and eventually I'd be able to be the same in real life

but what you also need to keep in mind, most women look at men without turning their heads, as you know, looking at a man, is a sort of invitation to that man to start following one

so few women indicate they are interested, because what if they just wanted to look, and the man thinks she wants more?

it's scary being female, females in larger groups is different, because then they can protect their own, a lone one, will not look visibly

Don't dress in short dresses the boys will lust after you!!!

and I've always thought that it is odd that no one ever said, stop looking at her, she is in a short skirt yes, but you aren't allowed to lust after her unless she tells you you can. And it should end with the boys mother smacking him on the head

But noooo, let's make it into a guilt thing, instead of teaching people all are equal and not to lust after anyone without their permission (I of course consider people in nudie mags to give permission to lust after them, but nothing else)

*smirks*   Yes, very true.     Men have always blamed their own feelings of lust on women, claiming that women "create lust in men".
One of the ultimate "shirk responsibility" maneuverers.

It's a tangled mess that goes back millennia, and I do my small, tiny part, but I don't see it getting untangled any time soon.
Granted, it gets a little better each year, though sometimes it's hard to tell (and it's more of a pendulum, swinging back and forth, though it swings a little more towards progress, and a little less from the Dark Ages, every year).

I love looking at women, but I know that even if they dress like strippers, they don't deserve to be touched or bothered without permission.
Men have been encouraged to do so as just another attack on Female Power and Self-Governance.

I agree about the importance of teaching respect for women.  It's hard with so many messages out there to the contrary.  (even in advertising; it's getting more common to delve into old stereotypes to sell products over here, as "old fashioned" shows like "Mad Men" are getting popular).

Mitch Hedberg had a problem with things on his neck, too.  He said that "Wearing a turtleneck sweater was like being strangled all day by a really weak guy".

There are lots of pretty tops for women that have looser necks, though.  Sweaters with collars that rest halfway between the neck and the shoulders, for instance.

Doctors usually try to discourage many surgeries they see as cosmetic, but you're probably right that male doctors might feel biased against breast reduction.   It's like a man asking for a vasectomy when they're 20 years old.   The doctors always feel like it's a hasty decision they'll regret, no matter how certain they are.

Alternately, you could just practice on your own, typing pages from books you own, reading the book while you type, practicing that way.

And secretary isn't a bad job.  Many times they can pay well, and be a good stepping stone for something better.

you see, in Finland, one has to have a degree as a secretary, and then you're basically stuck doing it for the rest of your life (This might have changed, ambition changes much)

I'd have no problem being someone's assistant, making things happen, would be cool

ergo they have the power

and men in power never suffer, and they are blind to people that do, and if they got to smack around their wife or people working for them, their life was perfect

I've always wondered why there is someone to look down on, why we always pick a new one to place below oneself, we find a new people in Lapland, they slaves, oh they are revolting, oh there is people in Africa, lets have them as slaves, oh they are revolting, hmm, we need new slaves

Who the fuck invented slaves? Was it romans? I know they took their conquered land-areas people as slaves to build roads so they wouldn't try and get themselves away from the roman empire... But who was the first one to invent it? I want to go back in time and kick his or her ass, they invented looking down on another human being as lesser... and that needs to stooop

Slavery is probably as old as human beings.   Back to the Egyptians, and probably much earlier.   It's always tempting to say "Well, instead of letting us kill your people when we conquered them, how about if you just work for us for life?"
For conquered peoples, it was probably considered better than death.

And people have always loved to have someone to look down upon.  It's like the Monty Python sketch about "The Village Idiot", where a the concept of a village idiot, a drooling moron that is too stupid to feed themselves, is "a valuable part of the community", because they give everyone else someone to look down on, and thereby feel better about themselves.   :)

I don't trust charity, too many charitable places have been stolen from by their own boss or just disappeared, as it was fraud

so I see charity as I only give money I can afford to lose, and currently I can't give anything away

and I feel that it's terrible how if you begin giving to charity, they'll try and guilt you into giving more (I have a friend that started giving money from his pay-check, and they kept trying to make him give more money, so he stopped completely)

their way of doing it is terrible, "Oh, you give money, let us have more" and one gets frustrated after the 15th time they ask, so one just stops giving all together

Many homeless people don't really have the facilities to eat a lot of canned food, sadly.
I'm a bit conflicted about giving money to homeless people. I always do it if I can, but I feel that I don't really have the right to dictate what they can spend it on.  Many people say "Oh, they'll just spend it on booze and drugs", but I feel that unless I give enough to totally change their lives, I shouldn't stop them from buying some alcohol to help them get through the day.

I have money taken from my paycheck, but that let's me feel that I don't have to feel pressured by other people.  I'm pretty good at ignoring the "pleading" letters if I'm already giving.

Re: Arkrim's Room

I'll disagree with you there Nuric. It is not just traditionally labeled bigots and zealots that live in their own reality.

Everyone has a finite amount of memory and knowledge, and so our experiences of reality are limited to our courses in life. Everyone lives in their own little matrix world. We just do our best to observe as much as we can outside the bubble, but all that data is still compressed and oversimplified for us to do so.

And if we try to absorb uncompressed knowledge we have to specialize and thus forget other things in life. Why do you think so many incredibly intelligent people are socially inept or just a little "out of it" or morally bankrupt?

Bigots and zealots are no different, it's just WHAT they have chosen to focus on and WHAT they have chosen to specialize in seem to be particularly poor choices. Overspecialization in knowledge or culture of any kind inevitably leads to a form of bigotry and zealotry (even if it's something as simple as having a favorite food you refuse to deviate from). That's life.

The trick is to analyze this aspect of human nature and TRY our best not to let it make us all jerkfaces.

And parking lots are wastes of space. We need more parking garages and less parking lots. :P

I understand what you are saying, but I think that too is an oversimplification.   I might be misunderstanding what you mean, though.    You make it sound like smart people, or just obsessed people, just don't have room in their brains for common sense or for other people's points of view.
I know there's a limit to memory,  but socially inept people are usually that way from not being able to practice the skills, not because there's no "room" for them.    Similarly, morally bankrupt people either never had a good chance to learn, or choose not to.
Bigots and zealots learn a lot of their nonsense growing up, but also choose to remain ignorant, since their worldview is very closely tied to their self esteem.   Granted,  many people on the other side of the debate, some liberals and progressives, ca. Also have similar blinders on, but it's much more of a choice to not accept or process information, rather than some physical limit.

And I prefer parking garages too, but they can be more expensive.    :)

humans is always simplifying things to be able to grasp the meaning of it, of to be able to explain it to someone else

I usually tell people that humans are like cars, we can't run on empty stomachs more than they can run on an empty tank

but that's too simple, as humans that don't eat, will run for a long time, before they crash and burn, thanks to the body 'eating' the muscle, but explaining that to someone, will take ages, so I simplify it

and parking garages is good and all, as long as no one just leaves their car there to rust

Of course, America has long made a huge deal about cars, much more than is warranted, really.

I just got so disappointed in a person older than me, owing 25,000 euros to the bank, adding another 15,000 to the debt "to manage his pay off amount" as in he used to pay 800 a month over the period off 40 years, added 15,000 to get it to 250 a month to pay it off in... I have no idea how much time

all I thought was "all for a car......!?!"

if it had been something more worth anything, I mean he bought cars worth about 2000 euros, dumped accessories worth 6000 or so on them, most of the illegal, and then he sold them for 4000, and he thought it was profitable

my mind imploded over the stupid

also, it doesn't seem like a lot of money for someone that studies in USA, as your schools make you indebted to the gills, but to us, school is free, we have to buy the books, but that's it (Most of them are online, so one downloads the pdf, but still)

I have this debt, it is 2000 euros, because I had to borrow money to pay rent one time, and it takes me forever to pay it off, as I have no education, sorta hate teachers, which means small income...

and now I have no job, aaaaaaaaaaah, and I have no idea where I was going with this...

The previews had it looking like a fairly unremarkable Disney movie, and we went to see it because we were with my inlaws and their young kids.

I really liked it, though it's one of those that kind of grew on you as well.

The song is very powerful.  A bit corny and cartoony, but very powerful.

The movie, while still very cliched and typical in some ways, did manage to change a few things about the "normal Disney formula" and surprise me.

I highly recommend it.

I bring a flashlight to shine on people.   That's worked a few times, though I've been told that sooner or later it'll start a fight with someone.

Singing in the Rain is a wonderful movie.  One of my favorites, too.   I love Donald O'Connor.  He's hilarious in that.
I've never been much of a Audrey Hepburn fan, I'll admit.   I've never seen Sabrina, but I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's, and didn't like it.

I usually don't watch many old movies, but there are a few I love.  I watched White Christmas with Bing Crosby a few months ago.  That was good.

*smiles*    I'm not sure why you're trying to complicate it, my friend.

Yes, I understand that people, all people, have their own perspective on things, and their own view of reality, to an extent.
I was merely talking about people who choose to ignore what it obviously reality for personal reasons.

Some things are complicated, like normal human perception.  Some things are less so, like bigotry and religious persecution.
Complicating it only makes excuses for it.

Nuric:
*smiles*    I'm not sure why you're trying to complicate it, my friend.

Because that was the point in the comment. Everything is more complicated than people give credit to because we all have our own little bubble worlds that simplify data so that we can process it with our tiny little brains. :)

Nuric:

Exactly. Which is everyone. Everyone accepts a particular worldview that suits their own personal desires/beliefs in order to justify their own existence/actions (except maybe crazy people). It's as simple/complicated as that. :P

Nuric:
Some things are complicated, like normal human perception.  Some things are less so, like bigotry and religious persecution.

Oh, my naive little Nuric. Bigotry is not simple. It spans from a complicated weave of human evolution and culture. To call bigotry "simple" in its broadest sense, one must also call all human perception/opinion/emotion "simple" as well. Which I suppose is one way to go if you're an omnipotent supergenius lifeform evolved well beyond our species...and a jerkface. We humans are complex! I don't care what the Zorblaxian empire says!

Nuric:
Complicating it only makes excuses for it.
It almost sounds like you're saying that bigots "just are that way".

Absolutely not! The experiments and exercises used by the Nazis in the holocaust got really complicated sometimes. Contrary to popular belief among teenagers and serial daters, "complicated" does not equate to "justified" at all.

The whole point was to troll/inform you that "bigotry" is a fundamental aspect of human nature. Different people just exercise it differently and on different scales of magnitude as well as with different topics and things. "Mean girls" who create social cliques that outcast and bully those who are not in the popular crowd is a form of bigotry. It's on a smaller scale than what we typically call bigotry, but it IS the same thing, just smaller and with different topics of discussion (instead of religion or race they're prejudice is over their communal taste in beauty and lifestyle). And thus: COMPLICATED.

Yes, I know that the human brain is complicated, but you missed my point as well.
I wasn't saying that bigotry was some new phenomenon and that only the people I didn't like did it.
I understand that the human brain and personality is very complex, but that wasn't what I was talking about.

This whole point was about people who stubbornly cling to their prejudices, despite loads of information to the contrary, hating just because it makes them feel better.
I know that's been going on since the first right handed caveman met the first left handed caveman, but that is besides the point.

I'm not saying that bigotry isn't complicated.  If it wasn't, I'd have fixed it by now.
You're not telling me something I don't know.

Bigotry IS simple.  We've just tried to complicate it and dress it up in complex designs over the years to hide that fact.

the cavemen did kill another race of cavemen to exist, so it happened before left or right handedness

I mean we used to be two versions of walking humans

homo erectus, which was killed off

homo sapiens, that did the killing and is who we are

and then we have the nut cases that think dinosaur bones where dug into the earth to distract people from knowing about adam and eve

and I do say nutcases, because they've been proven time and again that adam and eve, could not have been the only way stuff happened.

I could say that adam and eve was made in this nice little garden lived for billions of years there as god can slow down time, while he waited for the dinos to die, and then he kicked them out

but that is taking logic and religion and mixing it

and I've never seen a religious person come up with that idea, because that would allow for the bible being looked at in a new way, as the garden being there to protect the humans and new species, while the old "test-species" died out

Re: Arkrim's Room

Bwahahaha!

A blonde, a brunette and a redhead are walking down a road when a genie/demon appears and offers them a deal. If they tell him a truth, he will grant them a wish. If they tell him a lie, he will curse them to burn in hell forever.

So the redhead goes up and flips her hair and says, "I'm the smartest woman in the world, I can handle this." and *POOF* she disappears in a flash of flame and sulfur.

The brunette goes up and flips her hair and says, "Well, I'm the most beautiful woman so he wouldn't dare..." *POOF* she disappears in a flash of flame and sulfur.

Seeing the others vanish the blonde bites her lip and sits there quietly for a while before saying "Well, I think..." *POOF* she disappears.

Re: Arkrim's Room

A teacher was wrapping up class, and started talking about tomorrow's final exam.
He said there would be no excuses for not showing up tomorrow, barring a dire medical condition or an immediate family member's death.

One smart ass, male student said, "What about extreme sexual exhaustion?", and the whole classroom burst into laughter.
After the laughter had subsided, the teacher glared at the student, and said, "Not an excuse, you can use your other hand to write."

damnit, I can't come up with anything remotely funny

So two vampires walked into a bar, one ordered a bloody mary and the other ordered hot water, the first vampire asked the second vampire why he would do that

the second vampire took out a used tampon and said "I felt like tea today"

Re: Arkrim's Room

Three guys go to a ski lodge, and there aren't enough rooms, so they have to share a bed. In the middle of the night, the guy on the right wakes up and says, "I had this wild, vivid dream of getting a hand job!" The guy on the left wakes up, and unbelievably, he's had the same dream, too. Then the guy in the middle wakes up and says,

Re: Arkrim's Room

SoOoOo, not that anybody asked, but I started my own company the other day! Wooh! I'm finally going from the design phase of my tabletop RPG to the stirrings of the production phase.

I'm planning to go up on Kickstarter next summer.

If anyone's interested in a Sci-fi tabletop RPG with a high fantasy twist, here's a link to the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CosmosRPG/

Please like us if you have an FB account. I'd really appreciate the support.

We have a website in the works but it isn't ready yet...but it WILL be awesome when it is...

There's lot's of cool artwork out for it now and much more to come!

Also, if anyone's interested in joining the project, let me know!

Re: Arkrim's Room

Launch for production? No, we launched our first official betatest game at a convention back in 2013 and founded the Facebook page back then. Why?

Nevermind, I found it. The typo in the "about" section says we were going to kickstart in 2013. That was before I realized you can't say "kickstart" anymore without it meaning Kickstarter.com. Originally that meant we were betatesting the first time that year. Which we did and it was successful! I fixed that part. Thanks for catching it!

I am an amateur web designer though.
