Die Rolls

In reply to Project Director (msg # 9):

How many points: 80?   100? Something else?

I'm looking at the Method 2: Point Purchase on page 32.

For 80 Point Build         For 100 Point Build
STR  25                        STR  25
CON  25                        CON  25
DEX  25                        DEX  25
AWA  25                        AWA  25
EXP  10                        EXP  20
REA  15                        REA  25
FOC  25                        FOC  25

Let me know if either is acceptable.

I'm thinking he'd be using bow and arrows that he made himself.

His Great-Great-Great-Great(-Great?) Grandparents were part of the initial invasion,

Opps. I just noticed the "No weirdo, loner." comment.

In reply to Sidney (msg # 11):

Them dice sure do seem to love to roll 1's.

I need to take time to sit down and make a character.  I have the book, thankfully.  Just came off a series of 12 hour night shifts that demand all of your time for work and sleep.

I should draw your attention to an important aspect of the rules.

In most percentile-based systems, it's best to roll low, especially if the system incorporates some form of degrees of success. However, in this game, you want to roll as high as possible to your skill without going over. If you succeed, the tens result is your "Degree of Success" or DoS.

I.e. Mahalina is rolling on her Communications skill of 60%. There is no modifiers. She rolls a 51, which is under 60%, in fact, just under. This is very good! The tens die came up a 5, so this is a 5 DoS result. Very good! Prime replies right away.

01 is an automatic pass, 00 automatic failure. Rolling 01-09 is only the bare minimum success. If you fail, the lower you roll when you miss the worse it is as Degree of Failure (DoF) is calculated by subtracting the result on the tens die from 10. I.e. let's say Mahalina rolled 67, a failure. 10 - 6 = 4 Degrees of Failure, pretty serious.

In combat, Degrees of Success are very important. You can use them to add to damage, or shift a damage location (from shoulder to head, say).

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Project Director (msg # 19):

For cleaning your weapons, make a Firearms skill roll (with specialty as it applies to that specific weapon).

Add +20% for it being a Routine task. Even a failure isn't that serious unless it's at least a couple Degrees of Failure.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 22):

Yikes!

This should probably be a Secret roll by me for weapon cleaning, eh?

There really should be one roll per weapon. Jimmy's FA is 66. With the +20 that's 86. An 88 is a failure. 10 - 8 (the number you rolled on the 10's) is 2 Degrees of Failure (DoF).

Unfortunately, I should have mentioned that doubles (like 88) are exceptional <b>Successes/Failures. They double the DoS/DoF. In this case, it's 4 DoF.

Regarding reading her expression, this would be a straight check vs EXP skill base, plus Psychology if you have the skill (but no penalty if you do not). It's rather simple to do so add +40% to your skill. That is, Jimmy automatically succeeds. With a roll of 81 that's 8 DoS. He understands that she was taken aback, and why, but that she's not holding it against him.

Just RP it! If you didn't know a roll was blown, would you want another roll?

When the team thoroughly checks their gear in a bit you can make another roll.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 28):

In all cases, a roll under your skill or the modified target number passes.

You passed your skill roll. In doing so you rolled a twenty (2 on the tens die) and so have 2 degrees of success.

Let's say he managed to trade some supply officer in a Bundeswehr unit for a couple pairs of Zeiss-Hensoldt Fero-D 19 10x50 binoculars. Come to think of it you could add your Scrounge skill into that making your final skill level 103.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 33):

Jimmy can make another roll to dig out the Emergency Exit tunnel. STR Task Base plus any skill in Survival and Athletics. It's a Challenging task, no bonus.

Jenna can make a Navigation roll for her route knowledge, and to see if she knows any trails in that area. Call it a Routine check (+20% skill bonus) because she's ridden through that area many times en route to the town of New West in BC. Navigation is an Awareness (AWA) skill, her Task Base for AWA is 34. She has 20 points in Navigation. This gives her a 54%, plus the 20% bonus is a task number of 74%.

Kim and Filat may also roll on Navigation but as they are not familiar with that area, they get no bonus for familiarity (straight Task Base + Skill roll.
