Re: Sun Snake's memory: Murder in Illion
Sun Snake felt the weight of the page's words, and bowed his head while uttering a platitude. He continued on towards the king in silence.
Sun Snake bowed to the king upon arrival, suddenly uncertain in his countenance. As a person, he had no idea how to deal with the grief of a father. And as a young Kai Lord, he had no idea how to conduct himself in private audience with the king. Certainly not at a time such as this.
Sun Snake gave his condolances in what he felt was a thin, strained voice, not feeling any pride at the inital thanks.
It was a disconcerting shift when the king moved on to business, although in retrospect he would expect the king to behave no other way. Sun Snake felt a little foolish taking out his parchment, and hesitated before mentioning it.
"Your majesty, I have written down my exact thoughts for you and your advisors to peruse, incase some small should escape my recollection now or later. However, the page said a similar thing to me as he has to you. He claimed a cowled man had offered him great wealth for this task. And he claimed he was to meet this man afterwards, at I believe the 'Rowdy Rooster Inn'."
Sun Snake stood for a moment uncomfortably. Was he really honouring his order and his god by simply repeating what the King already knew? Was there nothing else he could do with his talents?
Suddenly, Sun Snake felt a pit in his stomach. Slowly, whatever urges and thoughts had been simmering since he had heard the page's confession bubbled to the surface.
"Your majesty," said Sun Snake, once more feeling the thinness of his voice, "I told you earlier this day my skills were not that of combat. However, the god Kai has granted me abilities that might be of use to you. I have learned to hide myself in a crowd, even pretend to be that which I am not within reason. And I can track prey through a town as easily as in the wild."
Sun Snake took a breath and tried to swallow.
"The assassin's horse is still in the grounds. And perhaps knowledge of his capture is not yet widespread. If you can give me a uniform similar to the page's, and a good cowled cloak, I think I can imitate the page's mannerisms. Enough, I hope, that from afar I might be mistaken from the assassin, and this 'hook-nosed man' might be drawn out for the meeting. Enough so that your men can apprehend him. At worst, I may be able to follow this man so you can get an idea of his purpose or allegience in his flight."
OOC: Despite Sun Snake's words, and despite the need for urgency, he'd certainly want to see the page in his cell to get a feel for the assassin's body language when sitting, when nervous, etc. Assuming this plan is not insane, of course.
