Re: Thread IV: Investigating

The creature's visage couldn't convey anger, but its voice could, and did.

"Your attempts at diversion won't work, Magnakai; you've wasted enough of my time. You'll come with me to join our last prisoner, become the second soldier of the Deathlord's army, and now I will make you."

And with that, the creature suddenly charged at Swift Fox, while the other creature lurched forward, advancing toward the moving form of Frost Ferret with a burst of speed surprising in a creature so thoroughly wounded.

Let's battle, shall we?

So, opponents:

Humanoid Kai-chimera: CS 21, END 25/25

Beastly Kai monster: CS 25, END 19/31

Giak (stunned): CS 2, END 18/18

Swift Fox, the first one is yours, while the second is charging at Frost. The giak is stunned and still on top of the hill - if any of you want to kill it, you'll have to reach him there; it won't fight.

Dusk, since you're in the back, you're free to pick your target, or do anything else that you think might help you win the battle, or do nothing.

This battle will be fought one round at a time, so feel free to try and be tactical - your opponents will have their own dirty trics to rely upon, of course.

"I'll welcome death before I become anyone's puppet!" snapped Swift in reply before darting forward to meet the creature's charge, thrusting her dagger forward to try to use the creature's own momentum to impale it on the blade...

OOC: Rolled a 1 :(
Hope Dusk is in a helpful mood.  No way Swift is gonna win this one on her own.  I've only got one last trick to play and it might not work against this thing if it has Kai tricks up its furry sleeves...

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

Hmm, can we get some distances? How far away is the Hybrid? And the Giak? Is there any indication as to how long it's likely to take for the Giak to recover? Does it have any visible weapons/armour? Is it standing or sitting? What about the Hybrid? Does he(?) have any visible weapons or anything, or are we to assume he's only gonna attack us with whatever magical/psychic powers he's got? I don't think we've so far seen him actually cast any spells or anything, have we? So we can't tell what to expect there. I'm guessing the big Beasty has teeth and claws and stuff. Also, where are its injuries, specifically? As in, which areas of the body? Didn't they have hunched backs as well, or something, implying wings (or something) beneath their cloaks? Or was that the Hybrid? Also, how far away from each other are we three Kai? I don't want people to be falling over me while I'm crouching on the floor, lol.

Your own position, Dusk Rat, is about 100 meters behind the earth wall, which is where Swift Fox and Frost Ferret are. The two monsters who are attacking them were at the hilltop earlier, which is a further 200 meters from the earth wall, and are dashing over that distance.

The giak is sitting on the hilltop, with a spear in its hands and a catatonic look in his eyes - it'll take him at least two hours to recover from the shock.

OOC: Using D&D as an estimate, something with a high base speed (40-50 feet) that is running is going to take at least four 'rounds' to get to us from 300 metres (about 325 yards) away, would that be about right?

Could do with knowing this to know roughly how many preparative actions we can squeeze in before they arrive.

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

You're not 300 meters from them - Dusk Rat is. You are less than 200, and the one attacking Swift is even closer.

I'd guess about 20 seconds is the time you have, I'd say. However, I don't think you'll be able to get out more than one action before it is on you; if I'm right, you haven't even drawn your own weapons yet, and in addition to that, I'm not going to have the enemies being killed while running - that'd make for a underwelming game experience, and we don't want that, now do we?

Also, a running chararacter in D&D would spend double move and get 4x speed - so a character with the normal 30 feet moving speed would cover 240 feet in one round - that's 80 meters, which means that it'd run, you act, and then it'd be on you next turn, having covered about 160 meters with its charge. :)

So, assume that, unless you stop it somehow, you only have this action to defend yourself... but I'm not going to restrain you to a 6-seconds action; you can draw your weapon, change your position, and cast a spell or use nexus or even charge yourself to meet the beast attacking you head on; plenty of freedom, I'd say. ^_^

OOC: Pretty sure Dusk Rat and FF are in the same place - Swift's last post says she darted forward from our position, but Dusk and I have not separated as far as I can see....?

You moved forward first, to explode the ground under the helghast. Then, Swift joined you. Afterward, she moved forward. All the while, Dusk Rat never took a step. So, she's much further behind tan everybody else.

Is that clearer?

OOC: If I recall, I'd moved up to where Frost was (wasn't sure of Dusk's exact position, I'd assumed she was still near Frost), then she moved forward a little while talking to the creature.
Then when it started charging her, she started moving forward to meet its attack trying to use its own momentum against it.
Not sure how far away from the others she'll end up...

Yes, that's exactly how it went - except that Dusk Rat never left the hiding place you were standing into when everything exploded; she's still hiding there. Hence why she's not as close as you are, and why the enemies aren't focusing on her.

I don't remember moving in order to Nexus the helghast, but okay, no problem. Shame we now can't communicate with each other - what a change that'll make! :D

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

If we could hear that Hybrid guy addressing us (or Swift, at least) from all the way over by the camp, I'm pretty sure we can hear each other from a relatively shorter distance away, though possibly less well if the talker's back is turned to the person they're talking to. Right now I'm still crouched on the ground at the spot we stopped to overlook the camp - the spot to which Swift Fox returned after planting the crystal bomb thingys, and Frosty activated them. I'm still crouched there, with my cloak around me, and Brook sitting (or standing - can't remember) next to me. I haven't got round to posting yet 'cause I'm not sure what to do - I think I'm at least as confused as Frost as to exactly where everyone is and stuff ;).

Now you know how you stand in relation to each other, I hope. And, as Dusk Rat rightly said, you can of course hear each other talk - otherwise you wouldn't hear the half-kai monster either.

OOC: Ah-ha - very handy! Cheers, GM. :)

Fascination flashed through Frost Ferret at the sight of the creature's extraordinary visage - what could the magics have done to a Kai to change them in such a way? - but almost immediately he had to put his interest aside and prepare for the sudden attack.

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

OOC: Sorry chaps - the simple-seeming gesture of inviting some friends round for some food and DVD watching yesterday turned into a mini-epic of shopping, tidying and cooking.

Ferret's eyes darted about the scene of devastation across which the unspeaking creature was charging towards him. Calculations flashed through his mind: wounded though it appeared to be, he felt it was likely to be more than a match for him in single combat; and Dusk Rat being such a distance away made their chances of success fighting together a moot consideration; beyond the immediate threat of the two monsters was the continuing risk of the explosive-laden kraan taking flight; and apparently still an important map lay in the big red tent at the centre of the camp.

Taking a second to adjust his gauntlet and ready his short sword, Ferret joined the charge, making straight for the enemy bearing down on him, but gaze averted towards the heaviest-looking piece of debris he could spy among the nearby wreckage.

Timing was going to be everything.

Alright, I'll be giving Dusk Rat eight more hours to tell me if she wants to do something, otherwise I'll push us onward with her doing nothing, and the current results of Frost's and Swift's actions.

Okay, back home once more from busy weekend, and finally posting...

Dusk Rat ensures she is in a suitable position, covered as best she can be by the nearby terrain, but still crouched down and masked in her concealing cloak.

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

Just as the monster who was charging at Frost Ferreg got close to the Kai Lord, he codly made a single move with his hand, and suddenly, the broken remains of an undead body flew into the monster from the side, smashing it in its side and sending it rolling and tumbling to the left. Some new, bloody scrapes opened into the beast's body, but despite those wounds, it still slowly went to get up again... and then, it suddenly wavered, letting out a scream of pain, almost as if it had been hit by a mauls straight in the head. The shook was such that the monster lost its balance, and fell backwards... impaling itself into a broken metal pole - on of the tent's supports still in place.

The creature weezhed softly - it was clear it wasn't dead yet - but it didn't seemed like it could be able to inflict any more damage from its position.

However, any thought about that flew from everybody's mind when they the sharp yell of pain of a wounded woman resonated through the air; as they turned, they could see that Swift Fox's thrust at her opponent had failed, for her quite agile opponent had somersaultded over the Kai Lady, opening a wide gash into her back that had torn right through the girl's leather waistcoat and from which blood was bleeding profusely.

The creature turned, its toothed maw moving in something that was perhaps meant as a grin, and showed its hand as the claws retracted back into its hand:

"Is that the best a Magnakai can do? The one we're preparing to turn into one of us can withstand much more pain than this. You're pathetic, little girl."

Beastly Kai-Monster: CS 0, END 4/31

Swift Fox, you rolled 1, so that's quipment damage - your Leather Waistcoat is now worthless. You lost 6 END, but managed to inflict 1 point of damage on your opponent.
So, now there's only one enemy still afoot, and you three are all still plenty capable of fighting. Next round of actions?

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

Swift stumbled forward and spun around quickly, regaining her balance.
Her teeth were gritted with the pain from her wound, but her pained expression quickly changed to a rather crazed looking feral grin.
"You must have been one of Starfire's lot" she replied.  "thinking with their oversized weapons instead of their brains!"

As she spoke, she had shrugged off the tattered remnants of her waistcoat, the movement serving to disguise a more subtle one behind her back...

The unexpected ease with which his opponent had been defeated brought Ferret up short. He suspected he had been assisted in some way, but had no time to ponder the situation further, because a cry from his companion drew his attention away. In contrast to his own fortunes, Swift Fox seemed like she might not last long enough for him to continue on. He changed the direction of his charge towards the creature she faced and gestured with his gauntleted hand.

Re: Thread IV: Investigating

As Frost Ferret darted toward Swift Fox, Brook suddenly appeared out of nowhere - they knew it had to be the same place where Dusk Rat had been standing, but nobody seemed to be able to pinpoint the younger Magnakai's location - and charged at the bleedig out monster, quickly finishing it.

Meanwhile, Frost Ferret was closing in on the monster Swift Fox was facing; he was not, however, close enough to stop it before it could attack, so instead he just thrusted his hand forward, and the creature was powefully shoved to the ground, smashing against it in a quite brutal fashion.

It didn't let that get to it, though; it got up quickly, letting out a menacing roar... and that was when Swift Fox threw a small black vial on the ground in front of herself. The moment it broke, black smoke exploded forward, filling the half-kai's open mouth and caushing it to double back and start coughing painfully, even as the smoke enveloped it, making it hard for the creature to see the two of them as Frost Ferret stopped next to Swift Fox.

Your opponent lost 4 more END in this exchange. Actions?

Ferret momentarily looked hard at Swift Fox, partly to try and assess her wounds and partly to try and impart some confirmation that he was standing firm with her. He didn't spend time considering his success or failure in either venture, however, but focused again on the hybrid creature coughing amidst the cloud of smoke. He raised his gauntleted hand once more.
