Re: Thread X: Metal Gear Kai. Tactical Espionage, Action!
Being the closest to the door, Swift Fox was quick to close in on the maimed Gourgaz. The beast, despite it's sorry state, was still maddened enough by the Adgana effects that it somehow managed to propel itself forward in a lunge; before it could reach Swift Fox, however, Silver Raven dashed in, impaling the beast on the Dragon's Song... except the darkspawn didn't stop moving, using its one claw to propel itself forward to Silver Raven's surprise and taking a huge chunk of his shoulder out with a brutal bite. Swift Fox darted in, uncaring of the monster's feet slashing at her leg, and beheaded it with a single blow of her curved dagger - only afterward managing to pry the monster's jaws open.
Water Hornet instead picked for himself the more healty-looking of the two Vordaks, darting toward it so fast that the surprised creature's strike was too weak and bounced harmlessly off his shield, while Hornets thrust struck true in the middle of the undead's sternum, sending it toppling down. In desperation, sensing that his mental shriek was sliding off Hornet's mind much like his mace had slid off the Magnakai's buckler, the monster threw his mace at his enemy; once agan Hornet avoided it by deflecting with his shield, although the ricochet was such that it still struck Hornet's shoulder, sending some links of his chainmail flying away even as the man thrust his weapon forward and into the skull of the skeletal creature, killing it with almost disdainful ease.
Meanwhile, the Vordak who was missing a limb choose his own opponents by charging at the hesitant form of Dawn Sword; however, just as the enemy was about to hit her, the girl's eyes foused on it, and all the hesitation went away from her as she struck true with a single, diagonal swing that bisected her opponent from its left cheekbone all the way down to the right side of its ribcage, splitting it in two even as the gem inside it's head rolled down to meet the other eight that lay scattered about the room.
As the others were occupied, and he could see that the Xagash would recover from the surprise before Sun Fox and Sabre Fox could rejoin the fray, Sun Snake took it upon himself to face off against the strongest foe. Interestingly, he drew the hand-axe that had been Swift Fox's gift to him from their day in Toran instead of Prudence... only to then draw his sword with his left hand, rather than going for his shield as he would normally do.
It was clear that Sun Snake had no idea how to properly coordinate while wielding two weapons, and in fact not only was he wielding the sword in reverse, but wasn't even using it to attack or parry at all; it was weird that he was pointlessly burdening himself like that. Intitally, it didn't seemed to matter, for as the axe in his hand started to let out a soft, heartening white glow, Sun Snake struck true with it, the strike hitting the Xagash exactly under the knee, opening a huge bleeding wound and sending splinters of bones flying for what was a clearly crippling blow, which would leave the Xagash incapable of moving, delivered with such accuracy as to neatly avoid all the hardest scabs of the beast leathery skin.
However, as good as the strike was, Sun Snake's weird choice to forego his shield to ineptly wield his sword in his off-hand was swiftly punsihed as the Xagash's warhammer hit him on the shoulder; it was barely a glancing blow - in fact, the way the Magnakai moved, he had somehow seen it coming before it was even unleashed, but despite such foreknowledge he wasn't fast enough to dodge it completely - but without the shield to redirect the impact away, the Xagash' stenght was sufficient to make Sun Snake spun on himself and leave him disoriented, so that he was unable to defend himself, or even strike back, as the Xagash' follow-up blow smashed him straight in the chest, rebounding off his shabot gum vest but nevertheless blasting Sun Snake to the ground with eough force to crack the floor underneath.
With a cruel, gloating laugh, the monster raised his weapon high above its head with both hands, clearly preparing to simply bash his enemy's head in, but as the weapon was falling, it instead struk Sun Fox's chest, the girl having interposed herself to save Sun Snake. Even as she was staggered by the hit, Sun Fox flexed her whole body inward, catching the enemy weapon's barbs in the silver links of her chainmail, and then grinned at it, apparently uncaring of the blood that was visibly spreading under the armour as she mocked:
"You can't take down a Magnakai with such featherweight blows, you beast - here, let that weapon stay in the hands of those who can use it properly!"
And to punctuate her comment, she moved, the two kagonite weapons in her hands - one her broadsword, the other a borrowed sword with a snake motif on the handle and hilt - moved in a cross slash, severing the Xagash's arm at the elbow and leaving the monster completely unable to retaliate or defend itself in any manner as Sabre Fox dove in and thrust both of his weapon in the creature's head, killing it in the blink of an eye.
To summarize: Sabre Fox, you don't need to pay for the Strength spell since, as I told you earlier, the one you cast before the battle was still in effect for the first two rounds of it; you do need to pay for Flaming Blade, however. Other than that, not much to add - as always, where combat's involved, you never falter.
Swift Fox, you lose 4 END in total, and Silver Raven loses 9 END; Sun Snake, you were quite battered and lose a total of 17 END - let me know if you want to use any of your powers to reduce that any further.
Hornet, you only take 2 END of damage, but since you rolled twice under 3, combined with one further low roll back in last fight, I feel you're due for some equipment damage - specifically, your Chainmail now grants 1 less END, so you should reduce your max from 30 to 29 (note that this is not additional END loss - you still only lose 2 END this battle, is just that one of those two is also removed from your max permanently).
And naturally, everybody loses 1 CS due to fatigue, modified by your equipment as appropriate - nothing new there.
As far as loot goes, there's 1 darksteel mace from the Vordak as well as the Xagash's equipment, which is as follow:
Hellblaze (warhammer): Fireblast ability, Hook-Lock ability
Fireblast: on a roll of 0, pay 2 WP to set target on fire, making the target lose 4 END each following round (even if damage that round should be 0) until doused.
Hook Lock: can choose to inflict 0 damage to lock target in place (target can't excape or use powers that require movement).
Black Leather Light Armour: +2 END, +1 to Hunting rolls
Kagonite Bracers: +1 CS, +1 WP, make all currently wielded items magically unbreakable
Vordak Gems (9 in total)
And here's the blow-by-blow math of the encounter:
