Yeah, that's fine. We don't have anything to do in the forest anyway. Of course, I've kind of forgotten our plan now, but I'm sure we'll work it. :)

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
Well, technically the Brig is Greyhound One, or Jupiter, but since he is the entirety of UNIT on this mission, that makes him the field agents and the control centre. So he's Trap One... Unless he wants to be a greyhound without a trap.

I'll be over here, sucking a lollipop and trying to make the buzzing in my head go away.

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
I'll probably be around OOC; but the Brigadier requires brainwork that needs to be devoted to studies.

Technically, a lot of the study I've picked up in my experience as both data entry/admin and team leader; but organisations sure love that bit of paper.

And you can't have a Greyhound without a trap! Though can't Destrii and Benny temporarily be assigned to UNIT, then they can be the Traps.

.... shutting up now.

I think you may find they are Mondasian... Tenth Planet style. Definitely Mondas.

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
... either way, not the weak-as-anything version we've seen in the new series. And with any luck, not so weak to gold that a kid with a slingshot can take them down.

Cybermen have given me more moments of fear than Daleks ever did to be honest.

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
The gold thing was  a later addition, really. In the early days it was radiation, electromagnetism, and solvents that did for them. Much more believable. I have not even watched the last series yet, I've become so disenchanted with the whole thing. But those Mondasian Cybermen DO look pretty darned amazing, so perhaps I will take the risk...

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
Even the first time when gold was mentioned was okay. From memory, it was specifically gold dust that clogged up their ventilation shafts.

I'll continue to watch it; but that's more because my partner prefers the new series, and my son likes both. At it's best; the new series can actually be pretty good - it's just woefully inconsistent at times.

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
The Mondasian Cybermen are the only genuinely creepy versions. They still have human hands, their masks are surgical cloth. They're the only ones that give an impression of what used to be a human inside. The rest are increasingly robot-like, and you're only told they have organic components, or you might see a face behind the mask occasionally.

(Okay, Torchwood's Cyberwoman is the only one to be explicitly human inside, but the less said about it, the better.)

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
Not sure I agree with that. They may not be creepy in quite the same way; but the Tomb of the Cybermen is actually quite frightening - mainly because they were still doing the 'what's scariest is what you don't show' method of trying to scare you.

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
The story is creepy, but the Cyberman costume is not, or not as creepy as the original costumes, which are only ones to use cybernetic body horror. Kit Pedlar's original description had more human elements than what we ever got in Cybermen.

Re: OOC: Temporal Grace
I think the Mondasdan chaps are the most disturbing, visually. I like the others, and found the Peter Davison era Cybermen very impressive, visually. But it is the creepy, cobbled-together and obvious organic parts of the originals that really makes them so unpleasant.

As far as Revenge goes, it is one of my favourite Cyber-stories. Not for the Cybermen themselves, per se, but because the whole plague element is so unpleasant. I do like a hidden threat, or one that cannot be dealt with through direct combat. Indeed, the whole of that particular season is high on my list for that sort of thing. The Wirrn and Cybermen stories on Nerva were among the first I read in the Target books, and they still creep me out a lot today.

Glad you are back! While my hand is still lashed up in a splint, I am trying to get some updates done. It's intriguing to see how you are all approaching your individual problems. I confess, I did not expect Victoria to wrestle a dalek!
