Intro Thread: Susan
Life on Earth after the dalek defeat in 2150 had been hard. Very hard. Most of the population dead, cities reduced to rubble, famine, disease... Susan had not expected it to be quite so gruelling, but she had been young, and naive. But not any more. She had a good life, with a good man, and her knowledge of scientific techniques far beyond those of contemporary Earth had helped her become a leading figure in the rebuilding work. Now, three decades on, the planet was getting by, although it was still quite difficult for some. But the invasion had been a wake up call, and now petty disputes and prejudices had been put aside. This was a planet that worked together as one, old rivalries forgotten.
But... something was wrong. She was in the garden, tending the vegetables. Many people had turned to growing their own food, as the capacity to mass produce crops was more or less destroyed by the daleks, and even when the planet was functional again, it had become a habit. And there was something satisfying about growing one's own dinner. Of course, she had been unable to resist the temptation to experiment, and the size of her carrots was the envy of the neighbourhood. She had not revealed to others that she was not human, nor told them how she achieved the huge vegetables. She did not want to out herself as alien, as that would make her - understandably - very unpopular. She had used a lot of care selecting clothes and cosmetics to ensure people did not suspect she was not aging at the rate they were used to. She was Gallifreyan. Earth was absolutely not ready for that sort of technology and experience. Not yet.
She placed the carrots in a basket and called out to her husband. He had been on the other side of the garden, mending a fence. But... he was not there. Nor was the fence. And the house looked... different. The windows he had replaced ten years ago were gone, and the old battered panes back in their place. What was going on?
And then a swirling white vortex appeared, blowing the plants around alarmingly. Susan was a Time Lord - well, genetically. She had never been given the chance to go through the Academy, but she still had all their sensitivity to temporal effects. That vortex was most definitely emitting an alarming quantity of Artron energy. It made the hairs on the back of her neck practically quiver!
