Re: Neskroff Starport

Rynn sighed as he pressed the button on the repulsor lift for the Handree's resupply. Though he had been "safe" for the time that he'd been with the Rebels complacency was settling in. The days and weeks of being on the run, the heart pounding stress of near escapes and sleep-less nights out in the black of space were but a distant memory, and Rynn was beginning to grow antsy.

The Ubese heard the combox beep, indicating an incoming transmission and push the button to respond, hearing a raspy whisper he quickly pushed a button on the breathing apparatus of his mask, amplifying and correcting the rasp of his voice. "Rynn here, Send it."

Re: Neskroff Starport

"Hey Rynn, this is Corporal Tessus. Got a report from Central Security an unidentified object has been spotted in orbit" there was a pause where Rynn could hear some muffled talking on the other end of the line before Corporal Tessus spoke again "reports from the technical team say in all probability it's a stray asteroid or satellite. It was spotted in zone seven-six-four and heading south. Reckon you can handle one of the snub fighters and go take a look?" the docking area is very, very large. There are landing areas for thirty large ships and a landing field for X-wings and Y-wings. Throughout the docking bays are hundreds of crates and other cargo boxes. Rynn could easily get to the landing field and prep a fighter for take off.

Re: Neskroff Starport

"Roger CPL, I read unknown object at one seven-six-four and heading south." Rynn's pulse quickened, excited over taking out one of the fighters, normally when they let Rynn fly it was bulkly outdated frieghters, but this held some promise too it. "Any particular ship I'm cleared for? Or just whatever is nearest?" Rynn said, before signing off and heading to the ship at a jog

He was disappointed by how much his stamina had degraded since being stuck as a resupplier for the Rebels, as he was breathing heavy when he reached the starship.
Jumping in it he began the procedure for preping for take off. Every ship was different, but the basics were all the same. He worked his way through the checklist, and donned the head set. Despite the crystals he tried for a radio check anyway. "Corporal Tessus this is Rynn, How copy over?"

OOC: If cleared for a particular ship, he'll go to that one, if not, the closest fighter.

Re: Neskroff Starport

"Whatever you can find" Corporal Tessus replied before the com-box line went dead. The landing field had plenty of snub fighters. Rynn had his pick of them. For a quick take-off Rynn wouldn't have chance to equip any with a astromech droid but he didn't expect to make any jumps or suffer any mechanical faults. This was going to be just a routine flight.

In the cockpit of his chosen ship Rynn switched on the comlink but got nothing but static. Inside the crystal mesa Rynn would be out of communications but once off the surface he'd be able to com other patrols and orbiting starships.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Once the X-wing had gone through the proper start up sequence, Rynn fired the repulsors that got it off the ground, and eased the throttle forward, guiding the ship out of the hangar area. Once he was free of the crystals, he'd pull a few maneuvers to familiarize himself with the way the ship handled. After a minute or so, he powered the throttle in the bearing of zone seven-six-four and kept his eye on his radar, looking for the unidentified object.

Re: Neskroff Starport

The X-wing fighter rocketed out of the starport. As Rynn spun the starfighter around and rolled it he saw behind the Neskroff mesa as the crystals glowed from the lights within. Rainbow refracting spires sprouted up across the landscape. Despite Rynn having seen them before they were still a splendour to behold.

Reaching the lower atmosphere the X-wing's communications picked a message, "how do, Grey Nine, this Red Leader. Got us a non-clear here. Report as soon as you have them on your sensors."

OOC Give us a Perception check.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Rynn pulled his gaze away from the rainbow crystal display, flipped the radio switch and responded. "Red Leader this is Grey Nine, I copy, checking sensors over." he operated the sensors, scanning the surroundings for the UFO as he continued to speed toward the south quadrant of zone one seven-six-four. His eyes flicked from the sensor screen to the star spotted blackness of space and back, seeking the object, and torn between the hope that it would be nothing at all, or provide him with a bit of excitement.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Moving closer to where the non-clear was detected Rynn runs all the scanners and his sensors pick something up. It doesn't look good. It's a ship and it's not giving off an Alliance-confirmed transponder code. From this distance all that Rynn can identify is that it is on move and of Colossal size. Any further information will have to be gained by more scans or getting closer.

Rynn fired up the Comms again. "Red Leader this is Grey Nine, Sensors pick up a starship of unknown make, from this distance it looks to be a the size of a frigate, and it's transponder does not mark it as Alliance. Am moving closer to get better scans." Rynn said, and pushed forward on the throttle, and ran a weapons system check in case the ship deployed fighters to scare him off. His time with the pirates left him feeling pretty confident against smaller ships, one on one battles... but this was something different.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Checking the X-wing all looked fine, laser cannons were operational and the full payload of six proton torpedoes were onboard. The closer Rynn got to the unidentified craft the more information he was pick up from the sensors. The ship was approximate the size of a stock light freighter. Rynn considered that it might be nothing more than a stray pirate then the scanner confirmed it was Imperial. Scout ship. Survey vessel from the Imperial Survey Corps. It was possible that the scout hadn't spotted the rebel base yet. But if it did a lot of people would be in a lot of trouble.

The scout ship was in low orbit, making a complete scan before it reported back to the Empire. So far it seemed Rynn had the benefit of surprise.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Rynn keyed the mic again. "Red Leader I have a light freighter with the Imperial survey core. It's still scanning, so I assume that it has not yet located the base. I am moving to intercept unless I receive other orders. Grey Nine out." Giving his whole focus to the survey ship, Rynn pulled the nose of the x-wing "up" peeling away from the ship, and giving it throttle. He intended to attack the top of the ship, coming at it perpendicular to the planet. It was his hope that with their sensors focused toward the planet, an attack from above would be a surprise. He pushed the ship, to squeeze as much speed as he could. We he was a suitable distance away, he arched the trajectory of the ship to bring his nose pointed toward the top of the survey ship.

Re: Neskroff Starport

The X-wing responded smoothly to Rynn's control. The starfighter rose higher into the atmosphere and tracking the Imperial ship Rynn followed at a safe distance. From his vantage point Rynn closed unseen and undetected until he reached visual range. The ship was about eighty metres long a gun well was on the top with two laser cannons, the X-wing's computer classified it as a Loronar Far*Reach IV PQR scout ship which if unmodified Rynn knew would also have two more lasers on its underside.

OOC Initiative and Surprise round if you want to enter combat. Range is currently 20 starship squares.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Rynn held back, trying to fly out of "sight" of the ship. There was a chance that the survey ship might not see the base, and simply leave. If that occurred the base would remain hidden. A ship that did not return from a scouting mission raised questions.

Rynn kept his ship just on the edge of getting a lock on the Imp ship, and at the first sign of trying to rabbit, Rynn would blow them out of the sky.

Watching from afar Rynn is able to stay unobserved. The Imperial survey ship continues its routine inspection. The ship's course zigzags across the crystals plains in a preset matter. It seems only a matter of time before they detect the Rebel base or some sign of it.

Rynn realizing that he had no choice but to attack before the ship found the base, as it crept closer and closer. Still far out, Rynn squeezed every once of power out of X-wing, moving as fast as he could make the ship go toward the ship. With the anxiety he felt, he fired the proton missile a split second before he had a lock, and the shot was ruined, his position given away.

Re: Neskroff Starport

The proton torpedo whooshed as Rynn released the trigger. The missile spun through the air but flew harmlessly wide of the Imperial scout ship. As the missile hit the ground it shattered crystals, sending the debris into a glittering shower. The scout ship was too large and slow to react with any ease, all the pilot could do was send the scout ship in a circling arc to bring the ship to face the X-wing whilst performing defensive maneuvers.

OOC Don't forget to apply the X-wing's size modifier (-5) and its Dex modifier (+6) to all Pilot and Initiative checks.

The range is now 12 starship squares. The Imperial ship is on Full Defence.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Another of the X-wing's proton torpedos missed the Imperial scout ship. This time however Rynn was more prepared and had his targeting computer activated. Rather than send the torpedo crashing into the crystalline world below the computer readjusted the torpedos flight to track its target.

The Imperial ship's lasers bursted into life. Green streaks of laser shot across the skies. Lasers criss-crossed as some targeted the proton torpedo and others Rynn X-wing. The lasers didn't have the range or accuracy to cause Rynn any more than an inconvenience but the closer he took the X-wing the more danger he would be in.

OOC Range now 6 squares. The scout ship has a Ref of 12.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Screaming toward his enemy Rynn fired another torpedo. A cascade of blaster fire was unleashed from the scout ship but nothing hits the X-wing. The proton torpedo slammed into the scout's spine. Blue bolts crackle over the surface of the ship and it begins to dip, now heading for the surface of Isis. The surface of the planet is made of giant translucent crystals that reflect the sun's light into countless rainbows across the sky. Some of the crystals form giant spires that reach high into the air. Others are thick mesas filled with caverns and tunnels and separated by wide canyons.

OOC Range now 4 squares as the scout ship is now trying to escape. The ship has taken 46 points of damage and its SR has been reduced.

To aim the proton torpedoes take 2 consecutive swift actions not 1. So for Rynn to aim he has to spent a round lining the shot up and miss an attack or forgo moving that round.

Rynn smirked, finally getting into laser range, he pushed his ship as close to scout ship as he could, planning on taking advantage of his smaller ships maneuverability. His plan was to slingshot around the ship and come at it from different angles to attack different sides.

Re: Neskroff Starport

The X-wing was far more maneuverable than the Loronar Far*Reach vessel. The Imperial ship was a long range survey craft not designed for space battles. The red lasers of the X-wing showered the scout ship, the ship's shields crackled with power under the barrage. Where the larger vessel lacked in speed and firepower it didn't lack in robostness. The damage Rynn was inflicting wasn't enough to stop it.

Desperate to shake off the X-wing the Imperial ship pushed its engines hard but couldn't manage to find the power needed. The pilot obviously willing to try anything veered down toward a canyon and into the maze-like landscape. The canyon was about 750 metres wide and its walls 12,500 metres high. This close to the Isis's crystal surface the X-wings sensors will be near to useless and the Imperial ship will escape in the canyon's twists and turns unless Rynn dares follow.

OOC The Imperial is too large to engage as a dogfight. The Imperial ship has taken 69 damage and -1 step on condition track.

The ship has moved 2 squares away, entered a canyon and is very close to the ground.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Rynn wasted no time in pushing his x-wing into the canyon after the imperial ship. He had no trouble with the twist and turns of the canyon, and did his best to stay right on the other ship. When he found a moment to aim, he squeeze off another burst from his lasers. He furrowed his brow, now that they were in the canyon, he would have to kill them, but if they left the canyon he had a better chance to get a message to them. "Imperial ship, exit the canyon, completely power down the ship and prepare to be taken prisoner. Fail to comply and you will be destroyed." He tried anyway, hoping his proximity to the ship would help.

Re: Neskroff Starport

Rynn sent the X-wing into a swooping dive. As he entered the canyon he quickly levelling out with a roll to the left then his ears were filled with a painful, high-pitched tone. Rynn suddenly realised that the sound of the Imperial ship’s flight is reverberating in the crystal canyon. Shards of the canyon’s wall thump against the X-wing. Loosened by the roar of the Imperial ship’s engines some of the crystals are as big as boulders.

Whilst the crystal rocks tumble down the canyon the two ships continued to blast each other with lasers. The X-wing proved again its manoeuvrability and size advantage dodging the Imperial lasers whilst Rynn’s shots struck the Imperial ship again. The Imperial ship shields flickered more weakly now and smoke billowed from one engine, it wasn’t going to be able to take much more damage and keep flying.

OOC The scout ship has taken 116 damage and is -1 step on the condition track.

Re: Neskroff Starport

With the crystal falling from the scout ships engines, Rynn pulled the nose of the X-wing up, just above the top of the canyon. Aiming in front of the scout ship, Rynn loosed a barrage of lasers at the canyon walls, trying to force the ship down without destroying it.

Being above the crystals he commed back to Red Leader. "Red Leader this is Grey Nine, I have Imperial Scout ship heavily damaged. Currently trying to force a landing. Request ship to secure potential prisoners, Over."
