Discovery!

The streaks of light out of the viewport shorten themselves to pinpoints as you enter real space. Up and to the left of you hangs the crystalline world of Isis. Even from space, its rainbow refracting spires are a splendour to behold. Circling the world are several starship construction facilities. Shuttles buzz between the space docks and the rebel cities below. Here at the city of Neskroff was the Corellian gunship Handree waiting for the stolen Imperial transponder code. Then they can escort her to Polmanar.

It was then that Klyn picked up some unusual activity on the starship's scanners. Apart from the Rebel ships buzzing around the scanners picked up a proton torpedo heading toward the planet's surface. As well as the torpedo Klyn identifies a rebel X-wing Grey-Nine and an unknown ship of colossal size, the pair heading toward each other.

Re: Discovery!

Oglo held a fava bean plant as he looked down through the view port at the bottom of the ship.  The view port was nice for looking down on planets from orbit.  [Language unknown: "Hou is iou?  Tellpe laelnc wi ineev.  T era plei fotin.  Sati cawi le ouutnc rickmethun t saout Vorresear."], he said to his plant-friend.

Then a bright, moving object caught his eye.  He shifted over so look out the view port at an angle.  At first what he thought he saw was a shooting star.  But then it occurred to him that asteroids don't start burning up until they hit the atmosphere.  This one was burning before it hit the atmosphere.  [Language unknown: Thaallsan ulec?  A ai!  O rom ro strromven re ast earforore!  Ill thu k thu?], he spoke in alarm.

Re: Discovery!

Tera yawned as she entered the pilots compartment. She'd spent a lot of time in the medbay healing the crew and was looking forward to some rest as they arrived at Isis. "So, we drop off the code, get the grand high general onto a ship and then we're free?" Tera asked to the room in general.

Re: Discovery!

The first thing Lyla had done after getting away safely had been to treat herself to a long, lovely shower, washing off the sand and grit of Tatooine and moisturising her orange skin. But it was a cold shower, mostly, to drive away the endless, oppressive heat of the twin-sunned desert world. Lyla had then spent the last day or so getting worked on by Tera, for all the blaster burns and scrapes she'd taken, but the hardy Twi'lek had recovered well. Bored with space-travel and the endless streaks of hyperspace, she spent most of her spare time reading and relaxing in her bunk or on the ship's couch. She was learning about Isis, Polmanar, and the state of the battle there.

Now Lyla was in the cockpit, trying to familiarise herself with more of the ship's systems: weapons, shields, navigation, so she could better help in future engagements. She was watching as Klyn took the ship out of hyperspace and into Isis. 'Yup. But it looks like they want us to tag along to Polmanar, maybe so they can yell at us if it doesn't work.' Lyla said gloomily.

She looked over to see some distant streaks heading down to the planet. 'What's that, Klyn?' she asked, but she already had a bad feeling about it.

OOC: Sorry for the wait, I was a bit busy and writer's-blocked.

Re: Discovery!

Finally, they arrived at their destination without having the Alabak's Gold  even more damaged.

Klyn tried not to think how much of his work had been undone, all the while knowing they were barely hit.

A few unexpected 'bips' from the scaners did bring his attention to possible trouble.

"Well, someone fired a torpedo toward the planet... not sure the crystal things will like it... and it's bound to make some people angry.   And I suppose at least one of those two ship is responsible of that mess."
he adds, pointing to the two spots on the screen.

"I don't know if the big one is armed, but I wouldn't bet on the starfighter..."

Re: Discovery!

Having enjoyed the trip, after a fashion, with a lot of well spent quality time getting to know it's various parts, and in many cases fixing or otherwise tweaking them to a slightly more optimized condition T3-M8 is once again in the main passageways, rather than some small crawl tube or out on the ship's hull where he spent much of the voyage.  Plugged into one of the access ports near the cockpit the little droid does not interfere with the decision making process, but the movement of his single eye camera makes it quite clear he is following along.

Re: Discovery!

Everyone turned their attention to the unknown spaceship. The scanner first stated the obvious. The ship wasn't giving off an Alliance-confirmed transponder code. Picking up an Ident Beacon the ship was identified as a scout ship from the Imperial Survey Corps. An Imperial ship here could mean alot of trouble for a lot of people.

Flying closer it could be seen that the two ships were in battle. A proton torpedo from the X-wing slammed into the Imperial ship's spine and more laser struck against it. Blue bolts crackled as the Imperial ship's shield fought off the barrage but it was getting damaged. The damage must have been bad or the Imperial pilot wouldn't be taking the massive risk it was about to take. As the X-wing circled the Imperial ship flew down to the surface of Isis. The planet was made of giant translucent crystals that reflected the sun's light into countless rainbows across the sky. Some of the crystals formed giant spires that reach high into the air. Others are thick mesas filled with caverns and tunnels separated by wide canyons. In desperation the Imperial ship veered down into a canyon. The crystal structure of the planet disrupted the Alabak's Gold's sensors so once the Imperial ship was in the canyon they would have to follow it or lose them.

Re: Discovery!

Lyla watched the conflict on the screen, so distant it seemed unreal. 'Imperial Survey Corps, cruk. I once applied to do freelance work for them. Didn't get it though.' she recollected. 'You reckon we should get involved, or contact the Alliance at Neskroff?' she asked the others, but already knew the answer, as she started walking into the gun turret seat.

Re: Discovery!

"And here I was, hoping to land and make a nice check up..." says Klyn as he modifies his trajectory to begin a pursuit.

"Well, I hope the ship is damaged enough to lose some maneuverability, because I don't think we could follow otherwise... And I don't look forward to a fast run around those crystals!"

The challenge, however, does bring a smile on his face.

"T3, do what you can to get that pilot on the com."

Re: Discovery!

Tera looked at Lyla nodding, without saying anything and headed to the secondary gunnery seat.. She flicked on the switch waking the system to sue against the Imperial scoutship, before it could make the run into hyperspace.

Re: Discovery!

Without the merely customary response one would expect from most droids it is hard to tell if T3-M8 is up to anything in particular, although he is still plugged into the ship so one must presume some purpose is at hand.

Re: Discovery!

Oglo had walked up to the cockpit so he could get a better view of what was going on.  It seemed that only one Proton Torpedo wouldn't do near as much damage to the planet's environment as he had feared.  An entire salvo of them would have been a different story.

Upon seeing the Imperial Scout Ship go down among the crystal spires, his first instinct was that they were going to hide.  There had to be a lot of caves in there, and places where something as large as a ship could hide where the ship's sensors won't detect them.  To make matters more difficult, they could power down their ship.  And then they could make repairs.

"They're going to land their ship.  Flying low to search for them will be dangerous.  Safer that we land and search for them on foot.  So keep an eye out for safe landing spots.", he said hastily.  Oglo knew that time was of the essence.

Re: Discovery!

'We can't always get what we want.' Lyla called back to Klyn as she buckled herself in and started up the turret systems with a nasty-sounding whine. As she waited for it to warm up and calibrate, she looked down at the surface of the planet Isis, growing worryingly large and close beneath them. The crystal spires down there reminded her of the Nightlands of Ryloth, the crystalline trees glimpsed glittering on the horizon one cold and lonely night long, long ago. 'Could we fly over the canyons and track this scout-ship from above?'

Once the quiet little droid (Don't they usually beep a lot?) opened communications with the X-wing, Lyla followed up with one of the few shipboard jobs she was good at. 'Gray Nine, this is Alliance vessel Alabak's Gold. Do you require assistance with that scout-ship?'

Re: Discovery!

Doing his best to reduce the distance between them and the damaged ship, Klyn winced as he saw big crystal chunk fall around.

"Well" He saod , inserting himself into the conversation, "We have no ion weapons, but we can at least make them think about it twice.  A few laser beam around them might help them decide to land."
