Re: OOC

Welcome everyone. It’s great to be receiving RTJs. I don’t plan to rush the application process so bear with me whilst I chat with you all. I will promise to answer every RTJ whether it be positive or negative, also don’t be disheartened if you don’t get accepted straightaway if I’m asking questions it means I’m keen to include you I may just need more information before I make my final decision on which characters to accept. At the moment I will consider starting with between 4-6 players.

The Star Wars expanded universe has come up in my individual discussions so I’ll mention it here too for everyone. As my knowledge of anything outside of the films is limited to only the odd book, comic or game I will probably not be including much of it in the game as I won’t be confident as a GM to portray it correctly, so some species will not be available to play, for more information take a look at what’s included in the list provided in the character creation thread.

Also I have previously played WEG Star Wars and the adventure was original published by them I will be making use of some of the conventions used within that system to promote a cinematic experience. The cut away scene as demonstrated in the game info will be used throughout the game. This use of cut away scenes without any players involved makes for more a cinematic story feel and also helps the story make more sense, in my experience of playing play by post this can be really useful as sometimes being too subtle can leave important information missed. Also I’ll be beginning the adventure in the middle of an action scene to keep the action levels high and start the game on the go.

Under consideration is also the use of adventure scripts. For people who don’t know what I mean this was a process where each player is fed lines to say in an introductory scene. In a face to face game this was always a good ice breaker and also included some background information about the adventure. I’m not sure how useful a tool this might be online. Any background info if it’s essential could just be announced or divided amongst the characters. What does everyone think about this or anything else you want to talk about?

Re: OOC

Hello!

Meet Lyla Rahn, Twi'lek Scout. Hunter, tracker, scout, and crack-shot with a blaster rifle from range. In the wilderness, she'll keep the party well-fed, on track and warm on those cold, lonely nights — inside a gutted tauntaun, that is. :D

I don't know much about the EU either. I just look everything up on Wookieepedia. :D

I like cutaway scenes; I should really use more of them in my own games. I find in media res a bit weird, with the sudden plunge of "Where am I, how did I get here, what I am doing and what's going on?" But I'm willing to give that a go.

I've never even heard of a script for PCs before, let alone tried one. But I'm willing to try it out. I may change the lines somewhat to be more like Lyla's voice or to flow with the conversation.

Re: OOC

Yes that’s the reason I’d want everyone to agree to using a script to kick the adventure off as the method can seem heavy-handedness. I don’t want people to feel that they have to lose any control of their character. It’s definitely open to interpretation and being modified without the exact wording of the script being used. Also what the characters are doing as they talk and how they say the words is up to the players. When everyone’s on board we’ll take a vote on it.

The in media res is a good tool to make the game more cinematic and avoids the typical everyone meets in a bar scene. I feel for a Star Wars game it’s appropriate. In all honesty I’ve never attempted it online before though as I’m usually keen to take advantage of the play by post medium and start everyone off solo and build to their meeting up. With this game however one of my main aims is to set up a game which gets the players and characters all involved straight away and then keeps its momentum until we reach the end.

Re: OOC

Greetings everyone. Your residence techie, at your service.

I'll keep the ship working if we get one, your gear in good shape, and muck up all manner of computers.

Looking forward to this. And I'm good with an in media res beginning. Every Star Wars movie starts off that way, so it seems appropriate.

Re: OOC

Ronon Dex is a character in Stargate: Atlantis, played by Jason Momoa (who was played Conan in the recent movie). You've taken him as your portrait and in your description.

It's going to be hard to picture you as average height and not standing out in a crowd. :)

I literally typed in "dreadlocks sci fi" and that's what I got. I was pleased to find a portrait like that.

He looks pretty skinny to me.

Re: OOC

Ok, got 4 RTJs accepted now. So it’s time to get on with the character creation and development. As I expect many people will be busy for the next week or so I’m planning on an official start some time next year, probably around the 8th of January.

Until then here’s some more info to think about. The game will be set in the time just after the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first Death Star. All of the characters will be members of the Rebel Alliance which by then will be an established force of freedom fighters. How long the characters have been part of the Rebel Alliance is your choice. Also if the characters know each other or have worked as a team before is up to you. Your current mission has all of you assigned to the Alabak’s Gold. The Alabak’s Gold is a modified Mon Calamari jump freighter. It’s shape is similar to that of a YT-1300, but the Alabak's Gold is smaller. It really not much good as a freighter and is mainly only used as a small hyperspace transport. I’ve done a draft of its stats but will check them before I post it for you all to see soon.

Re: OOC

And I'm assuming that since we're going to Tatoonie, we can't all be natives to that place. Is anyone of us planning on being the pilot of this space transport?

This may alter my character concept.

I'll cover as the pilot unless someone else has a burning desire to do so.

Re: OOC

The ship is going to be my baby. I will actually skill focus in Pilot next level.

I'm a starship mechanic after all. I may not take Ace Pilot or anything, but I definitely plan on revolving around ships heavily.

Out of curiosity Mallox, what will be your shtick?

Re: OOC

Depending on our GMs style, Klyn being both the primary pilot and primary mechanic/engineer may be a bad idea. You can't both be Han piloting the ship and Chewie fixing the wires in the engineering section at the same time.
