Brawl in the Superstructure

The small tear in the starship was causing swirling winds through the superstructure as Rynn blasted his pistol toward Talke and also missed. The energy of his heavy blaster tore a larger hole and the three left there were buffeted about. As soon as Lyla's grenade left her hand it was sucked toward the two holes, it crashed against the wall and exploded throwing further debris at Talke. The Imperial was made of tough stuff and hurling himself away from the danger took no more than a scratch. He was still furious by the time he reached Rynn "I'm gonna beat you for that" he shouted above the howling winds as he swung his fists.

Several seconds later the ship's automatic environmental systems released leak-seeker balloons into the area. The balloons floated rapidly to the gashes, carried by the escaping winds. When they hit they burst, plugging the holes and the nearby vent with quick drying sealant. Lyla and Rynn were now trapped in the Superstructure with an irate and impressively strong Talke.

OOC Talke takes 3 damage from the stun blast. Talke misses his attack against Rynn. The vent into the starship which Tonth escaped through is now blocked is now blocked and Lyla and Rynn are cut off from the others. Rynn and Lyla's actions now.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Lyla watched amazed as the balloons appeared then popped over the holes, sealing them up nicely. Huh. I should have just blown the hull open on those frackers. But it was too late for cleverness now, the ISC goon was on top of them, literally. 'I said "stun grenades", Rynn!' Lyla swore, because the thug was now too close for them to use grenades. They'd missed that opportunity.

'Fall back!' Pushing off her pipe, Lyla let herself backwards, downwards, down the hull-space. She fired a snap-shot at the goon before she glanced back to see where she was going and arrest her flight.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Ness follows the sound of Blaster fire.  Being weightless, he finds it hard to move around.  He hadn't trained to fight in zero gravity.  It's not a problem one has to deal with unless things are really bad.  But he does his best to move toward the sound of fighting by grabbing hold of pipes and using them like rungs on a ladder.  Except it's a ladder he is climbing horizontally.  Not that there is a feeling of up or down in zero-g.  His stomach feels like it knows which way is up.  Fortunately, it has been hours since he ate anything.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

There had been little time for Rynn and Lyla to get to know each other. There had been no time to practice or coordinate their attacks yet the Rebels found a measure of success as they struggled against the strong armed Imperial. Talke bellowed and shook his fists but Rynn was at ease in the zero-g environment, the Ubese shifted around as he fired and distracted the Imperial enough for Lyla to get a clear shot. Her blaster bolt struck the large Imperial but he shrugged it off and his fist hammered into Rynn almost knocking him senseless.

OOC Rynn takes 12 damage for the connected punch.

Rynn and Lyla can act now.

Nessquik doesn't need to track the Imperial nor does he need to remain hidden so he can move quickly to reach Rynn and Lyla. He will reach them next round. Roll Initiative to see where he will come in the Initiative Order.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

'You'd be surprised.' Lyla muttered, thinking of the fights against the bounty-hunters. Damn it, the guy kept closing the distance so she couldn't toss stun grenades, and his armour and speed made him hard to hit, especially in zero-G. She had to surprise him, even the odds.

Lyla kicked off the wall, throwing herself one way, but grabbed a thin pipe to swing herself the other, soon getting lost in the maze of piping and struts. But, goddess's feet, he saw her. As soon as she had line-of-fire, from some strange new angle, Lyla let fly a shot, though not a good one. Then she was hiding behind the pipes, and had to be lost to sight now.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Nessquik climbed through the superstructure as fast as he could.  He found that in one way it was like swimming, except instead of grabbing handfuls of water to haul himself forward, he was grabbing handfuls of pipes and support struts.  When he got within view of the fight, he was both relieved and disappointed.  The fight had moved into a melee brawl.  On one hand that was good because without shooting there was no chance of damaging sensitive electronics or blowing a hole into space.  On the other hand, he was unprepared for a melee.  Sure Nessquik carried a Vibrodagger on himself, but that was just for show.  Back where he spent his childhood all the cool kids had them.  Carrying a Vibrodagger kept him from getting punched in the tentacles.  But against this Imperial, it's not enough of a deterrent.  This guy was probably the kind of bully who would assume you don't have the guts to cut him, and would punch you in the tentacles anyways.  So Nessquik goes with the plan he came in with, throw Stun Grenades until the other guys pass out.  So he pulls one off the little bandolier he rigged.  And then he waits.  It's not nice to throw grenades into a melee, so he has to wait until the Imperial has won.

OOC:
Nessquik rolled 8 using 1d20+6. initiative.
Move: Get within range of throwing a grenade
Move: Ready a Stun Grenade

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Always on the move Lyla kept herself out of range of Talke. The Imperial had a threatening presence and his punches were enough to have Rynn on the ropes. Despite the apparent victory he was gaining the ex-slave fighter kept his cool. He focused on Rynn and his fists came at the Ubese like hammers, knocking the Rebel around like he was a punch bag.

OOC Okay every can act and post in any order but resolution will be Nessquik, Rynn then Lyla unless anyone chooses to hold their action.

Rynn recovers 10 hit points with his Second Wind. Unfortunately Talke smacked him for another 11!

Upon seeing Rynn withdraw from the reach of the Imperial Scout, Nessquik moves forward enough to get within throwing distance of the Stun Grenade he had readied in his hand.  He pulled the pin and then hurled it straight at the scout.  He knew that in in micro-gravity, the grenade would keep on flying until it hit something.  He was just glad they have a minimal-distance fuse on them to give you time to jump back in case you accidentally drop it.  He watched as the grenade glanced off a support strut and began to ricochet around until it decided to detonate.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Lyla waited anxiously until she saw the results of Nessquik's throw, in case she had to quickly duck back behind the pipe and take cover from an awry grenade. She pushed her way back up, firing at Talke and hoping to take him by surprise, but the zero-G meant she jumped up much further and faster than predicted.

But she took advantage of it, sailing through the superstructure and weaving around pipes and struts until she had a new hiding place. She had to be lost to Talke's sight now.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Despite being outnumbered Talke didn't seemed to show any fear, in fact he showed little emotion at all. His attacks against Rynn had been methodical, a constant wearing down of the Ubese. Before the Imperial could get his deserved victory though Nessquik came forward and threw his stun grenade at the hulking man. The blast detonated and shook the man but he quickly shrugged off the damage and in retaliation he pushed himself off from the nearby bulkhead and swimming through the zero-g environment he came close to the Quarren and thumped him. Nessquik's tentacles juddered and his sickly complexion would surely be bruised later.

OOC Nessquik takes 10 points of damage.

Now every can act and post in any order but resolution will be Rynn, Nessquik then Lyla unless anyone chooses to hold their action.

Rynn glanced behind him and noticed that the imp was no longer following him. This battle was not going well, he thought as he winced as Nessquik's tentacles shook on his face. Rynn had been expected someone to take a swing at the Quarren, but not like this. Rynn tried to line up a shot, but his vision was still swimming and it went quite wide.

Lyla swore as Nessquik took the blow. This was going bad, fast, the two men weakened by the Imperial goon's punishing blows, and nothing seemed to slow him down. Lyla was still in good shape, but she couldn't hit the guy for poodoo. She might hose him with auto-fire, but in zero-G she didn't like her chances. She could well go spinning off, firing everywhere. 'Ness! Out of the way!' she hissed over the comlink to the quarren.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Nessquik does what comes naturally to him when he is punched in the tentacles.  He goes limp as a boned fish.  A good punch to the face on someone with a glass jaw... er... jelly tentacles... can knock a man out.  With his eyes glassing over from the shock of getting rushed and punched, Nessquik kind of wishes he would go unconscious.  This really hurts in precisely the same way as a man getting kicked in the groin.

To complete his deception of having been knocked out, Ness begins to drift.  Having no skill in zero-G maneuvering, he can only drift in the direction that the force of the punch sends him.  After that, he can prepare his next attack, hopefully this time against an opponent who thinks he is no longer a threat.

OOC:
Standard Action: Feint (resisted by target's Initiative skill)
Move Action: Ready another Stun Grenade
Nessquik rolled 26 using 1d20+11. Feint.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Lyla hissed an oath as Nessquik went spinning. The boys were almost down and she was the last. It was time to get desperate. 'Grab hold of something!' she yelled down the comlink, then swung around her new repeater rifle as she clamped her legs around a pipe.

'Hey, fat boy!' Lyla yelled down at Talke, then squeezed the trigger. Even she wasn't prepared for the hail of hot blaster bolts that spewed from the end, but she scarcely cared whether she hit Talke or the hull behind.

OOC: The idea is to shoot the wall and get Talke blown into the hole.
Move: Draw repeating blaster rifle
Swift: Grab hold of something
PBS +1, Autofire -5, ZG -5; Autofire
Attack: attack 2, damage 17

Turns out I didn't have an action spare to brace it, hence the correction to the attack roll.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

As Rynn and Lyla filled the cluttered superstructure with blasterfire the tangle of pipes and wires sprayed sparks and wisps of acrid smelling black smoke drifted in the zero-g environment. Also pipes and other shards of broken metal now floated around making the battle-zone an even more dangerous place to be.

The battle hardened Imperial hardly seemed to notice as he methodically destroyed his enemies. Both the Ubese and Quarren were punch drunk and no challenge. As Lyla let rip with the repeating blaster and goaded him the massive Talke answered her in not much more than a whisper "oh I haven't forgotten about you girl" he kicking off from a wall swam over to her, his trajectory was off however and he didn't get close enough to hit her yet.

OOC Lyla's plan may work but she has to hit something first!

Nessquik's Feint worked so against Nessquik's next action he is REF defence 16.

Now everyone can act and post in any order but resolution will be Rynn, Nessquik then Lyla unless anyone chooses to hold their action.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Ness didn't have any idea what harebrained scheme Lyla had in mind.  He only knew how he would play the situation if he were in her shoes.  It looked to him like she was creating a distraction so that he had more time to do whatever he was planning.  His plan had been simple: chuck another grenade at him while his back was turned.  But Lyla keeps getting in the way of his plan.  It's hard deciding to throw a grenade when someone on your team is practically begging your opponent to come up close.

Nessquik took the pause in combat to take a deep breath and steady himself.  He had no desire to get into a close melee.  He wanted to bombard him with many Stun Grenades and let the overlapping blasts knock him out.  But the fight started too soon for that.  So while Lyla has him distracted, Nessquik moves to Plan B, which has always been shooting him at close range.  He slowly and quietly opens his holster and draws out his pistol.

Lyla waited, waited until Talke turned ponderously to look at Rynn, hoping he'd go for him. Fortunately, the twi'lek wasn't overburdened with notions of honour or a fair-fight or crap like that. The had already been stacked against them anyway, and it was three-to-one. 'And I didn't say I was surrendering.' she retorted, snatching back up her own trusty blaster rifle. At close range, the zero-G spinning wasn't such an issue as she aimed and squeezed off a hot blaster bolt right into the goon's side.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Ness waits on Lyla unsure what she is up to.  If she is truthful about surrendering, then him taking a shot at Talke is only going to get him killed right away.  So he waits and drifts until he is looking generally toward Talke's back.

But then Lyla shows that what she had in mind was exactly the same thing Ness did.  So despite previous disagreements, he and she really did think the same way.  At least, when it comes to spur-of-the-moment battle tactics.

Ness and sneakily drawn his pistol and had it at the ready.  After Lyla shoots, he swings himself uprightish and snaps off a shot at the Imperial.  Unlike Lyla though, he has no idea how to maneuver in zero-G.  So what in his mind should have been a nice sudden jump up turns into over-rotation and a shot that goes far and wide of hitting his target.  And then he keeps on rotating until he hits his head on a pipe.  So much for him being Mr. Cool.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Rynn came to a stop close and behind the Imp as he was facing Lyla. He took a snap shot with his blaster aimed at the larger man's back. He hoped that he was close enough, and that the man would be distracted by Lyla to not see the shot coming and it would catch him off guard.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Starting to get the hang of moving about in zero-G (she wished she'd practiced more in her stowaway days!), Lyla grabbed a pipe to pull herself away from Talke's blow, his meaty fist narrowly missing her curvy lekku-tchun, which had worked it way out from under coat in all the jumping around. 'Get in line.' she spat, unable to think of a better retort. She couldn't actually think of anyone else who'd enjoy watching her die, though many who'd enjoy watching her dance.

Lyla produced one of the looted stun grenades and triggered it. Because it was zero-G, she simply waited and left the thing beeping in the air in front of Talke, not worrying about throwing but it did give the thug time to react. She jumped fast and far away as it went off behind her.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Nessquik keeps on firing away with his Blaster Pistol.  Nothing in his training prepared him for a firefight at close range.  He would rather this be ship-to-ship.  Unfortunately, if it comes to that it will be a disabled gunship against an Imperial Stardestroyer.  That makes his fight preferable.

Nessquik keeps on tumbling through the air unable to control himself.  He snaps off a shot when his rotation brings him back around to facing the Imperial.  This time he gets closer to hitting him but the big man dodges.  It's hardly consolation, but Ness feels like he's getting to be a better shot.

OOC: 17:51, Today: Nessquik rolled 16 using 1d20+1. snap shot.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

At last showing a bit of flair the zero-G expert flipped away from the battle and shot off a single blast. The heavy blaster cracked and Rynn gently floated away as the red beam of energy struck Talke and defeated the brute. The muscular and tough Imperial blacked out and his body went limp. The scout's body wheel around so that everyone could see the massive amount of damage he had suffered before he lost consciousness.

OOC Ok you won!

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Lyla recovered and re-oriented herself, seeing the Imperial goon had stopped moving. Warily, she stretched out her blaster rifle and poked him in the gut until she was sure he'd stopped moving and fighting. 'Hey?' Then she reached out a hand to feel for a pulse. If he was alive, they'd have to lug the big lunk back as their prisoner, but at least he wouldn't weight anything in zero-G.

'We did it. Good shooting everyone. At the end there, anyway.'

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Ness grabs onto a support strut near the hull to stop his spinning.  So close to the outer hull, his hand would be in danger of getting frostbite from the cold metal if not for his Thinsuit.  So his gloved hand is safe.  No so his pride.  He couldn't hit anything, even when he used his best trick to get the Imperial to lower is guard.  His pride hurt, and so did his special tentacle.  It was the equivalent on a Human of being punched in the gnads.

When he spoke, his already nasally-sounding voice was a little higher.  "You take him.  I got to recover.  Hey, you try getting punched in the ovaries and see how you feel.", he replies to Lyla.

Tera nodded her body still heavily burnt from the blaster fire. "We'll need to take him to the medbay in any case. Why don't you come along and I can try to help."

Tera faced the group a look of worry on her face. "There's still one left running around the ship. We got another two. So...we're still in trouble, but one person can do less harm than 6."

"Finally hit him..." Rynn muttered to himself, holstering his blaster, and reaching for the liquid cable dispenser on his belt and producing some cable. He bound the mans hands together, then his legs, the tied the bindings together, tying the man's hands to his feet. If he woke up again, he wouldn't be putting up near the fight. He looked over at Ness, impressed the Quarren was still standing, as the man hit awfully hard.

"Lets find the other one then, once this one gets put in the bay."

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Tied up with liquid cable Talke was no longer a threat. Together with the other three scouts the Rebels had Captain Tonth, Astronavigator Meahonon, Gunner Lerenga and Gunner Talke all captured. The Handree was there's but their twelve hour hyperspace flight was coming to an end.

The Rebels regrouped at the Medbay. The prisoners were secured and Tera had a chance to check her companions wounds.

OOC Skipped ahead. I've assumed everyone is now together and in the Medbay. If anyone feels they want to be somewhere else let me know.

Nessquik:
"You take him.  I got to recover.  Hey, you try getting punched in the ovaries and see how you feel.", he replies to Lyla.

'Try getting hit in the brain-tails.' Lyla returned; she'd escaped this brawl unscathed, but her tails still ached from Gutretee's duel. She had a dry chuckle, sharing her sympathy for Nessquik's discomfort, for Tera's burns and Ryyn's bruises. For all their disagreements earlier, they'd come through a fight together now, and Lyla was prepared to accept him, all of them, as part of the team.

*

Back in the Medbay, Lyla stood guard over the unconscious prisoners and watched as Tera treated the others. She was relieved. That was it, they'd finally got their goons and had a lucky break. If they could get back control of the ship, this might not be a complete disaster. 'One, two, three, four. That's all of them. Now, where were we?'

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Nessquik finally did help with the unconcious Imperial once they got back into the gravity well of the cargo hold.  And then helped carry him back to the bridge.  His tentacles still hurt.  The throbbing was likely to go on for a couple more days.

Responding to Lyla's question about "where were we?", Ness answers, "We were starting to debate which hurts more: You getting punched in the brain-tail, or me getting punched in the gonads.  Yeah, you heard me.  I won't debate about where your species keeps its brain if you don't debate about where mine keeps its gonads.  That's something I don't want to talk about.  Let's just say that the expression, 'Looking a gift-Quarren in the mouth' is a naughty one."

He then looks at Tera and says to her.  "So you're the doctor.  On the pain-scale, which hurts more?  Getting hit in the brain, or hit in the gonads?"

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Tera rolled her eyes. "This is all rather irrelevant. Both hurt and each feels to its owner as if the world is ending. Being hurt anywhere there are lots of pain nerve endings is an excruciating experience. It should be noted that Twi'lek head tails are as sensitive as your gonads. While the brains of both species have minimal pain nerves. So that question aside...what are we going to do about the ship. We're on a one stop trip to Bespin. What do we do once we get there? How do we keep the medicine safe? How do we get it to where it needs to be going. Everything else is besides the point and everyone waiting on the medicine will not be waiting for much longer if we get side tracked. Once I've made sure you've all been treated,w e need to focus on repairs, but doing so safely. I'm not good at ship repairs, but I can use computers, not as well as the droid, but well enough."

Lyla rubbed the top of said brain-tails, feeling a tailache coming on and not because of any lingering concussion she might have. 'That wasn't what I was asking about. And I already got that impression when you referred to my ovaries. But thanks for that, really. I'll never look at a cephalopod the same way again...'

'And for the record, getting hit in the tails is like getting hit in the head and the boob at the same.'

'Now, I was asking where were we with the ship. It looks like we have to wait until we drop out of hyperspace at Bespin before we make repairs. So we have to make sure they haven't rigged some kind of transmitter to go off when we do, so the Imperials don't come down on our tails. Let's focus on that for now.'

'I don't know cruk about repairing the ship. I can use a computer, but that's it. So, I'll guard and question our prisoners, while you all work on the ship, okay?'

"Oh, yes, I agree.", replies the Quarren, not being his usual contrary self.  "About the transmitter that is.  They could have rigged our ship's transmitter to send a signal when we exit Hyperspace at Bespin.  I know a lot about computers.  I should get to work right away trying to determine if they rigged a program in our communications system to send out a signal when we reach Bespin.  And just to be on the safe side in case they brought along their own transmitter they still have hidden somewhere on the ship, I'll set up our ship's electronic countermeasures to jam communications when we exit Hyperspace.

"Oh, and just on a side note.  Getting hit in the boobs hurts?  I got no frame of reference but they look to me like just stores of fat."

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Klyn did his best to ignore the strange talk about who's hurt more and where.

It was quite obvious they all suffered from their encounters. The only vital fact, in his point of view, was their victory without casualty. And it was really a close call.

"So we have control of the ship. We can travel at normal speed but won't be able to make another jump until we get spare parts for the nav computer.

First possibility is getting them on Bespin, but there are probably some imperial ships not too far, or they wouldn't have picked this destination.

We currently have the communication from the ship under control: T3 locked them. But if they have a strong enough emitter they could send a distress signal once we get out of hyperspace."

He looked at the prisoners.

"I don't think they will say anything, but you can try.  Meanwhile some of us should retrace their moves to try and find places they could have hidden the transmitter, if there is one.  While others could try to create a jamming device, just to be safe."

"Does anyone knows of a nice place not to far from Bespin where we could make repairs?"

Tera nodded "Like getting hit in your gonads. Excruciating."  to Nessquik "And control is...too optimistic a word for our situation on this ship. There is still one scout remaining. I don't even remember them being that hurt."

Tera looked at the prisoners "We don't have many of the interrogation techniques that the Emprie has and I'm not willing to try them even if we did have access to them. Let's focus on the jammer and fixing the nav comp."

Bespin

The sickbay was fitted with everything Tera could need to perform any healing surgery the rebels may need. It also had data-computers which after a quick search showed that the Bespin system was in the Outer Rim, probably about one hundred hyperspace days from the Core systems. It was however a valuable system as it possessed many Tibanna gas mines.

The navicomputer calculated that they would reach their destination in less than one hour.

OOC Treat it as you have one hour remaining to complete any preparation, mechanics or surgery.

Something suddenly occurred to Rynn and his head jerked back as if struck. A smile spread across his face, but was concealed by his body suit's mask, "Dibs on piloting this ship when it gets to normal space." He said, looking around as if seeing the ship for the first time. "Never got to drive something this big."

Re: Bespin

"Flying this ship will be more than a one-man job.  Too bad for you, I will be up on the bridge at the comm.", replies Nessquik to Rynn.

Ness is finishing off his medical treatment, which at this point is meerly for the sake of cleanliness.  Having been punched in the tentacles, he mostly had bruises that needed treating.  But as the bruises were in his tentacles, they make talking and eating painful.  And now all he had left to do was to clear blood out of certain ducts.  One such duct appears to be a tentacle that lays low on his chin and is covered over by the other tentacles.  But when he strokes it and squeezes it much like you would a cake frosting dispenser a milky fluid comes out.  That fluid has blood swirled in amongst it.  Ness looks at the collection of fluid he has collected in a metal surgical dish with a sense of sadness.  Then talking to himself, he says, "Ah well, I don't expect I will run into a mate on Bespin."

He then sets the dish aside for Tera to dispose with later.  He then stands up from his seat and brushes off his shabby uniform.  It doesn't help.  It still looks as threadbare as ever.  But Ness feels a sort of pride of having a uniform that's not very wrinkled.  "Well, if you need me, I'll be up on the bridge programming the ship's jammer.", he tells people.  He then sets off by himself for the bridge.

OOC: Ness is going to take 20 for Use Computer to set the ship's electronic countermeasures to jam communications immediately upon entering real space.  All but a few Subspace and all HoloNet transmission frequencies.  Only three subspace frequencies will be left unjammed, and those are ones commonly used by commercial vessels and starports to communicate with one another.

Re: Brawl in the Superstructure

Lyla rubbed her head, frustrated by the tight time-line. They'd won the battle, but they weren't out of the woods yet, or some other mixed metaphor. She also looked away from Nessquik squeezing out his tentacles, not liking the analogue. 'Well, torture doesn't work and I hope none of us have a hankering to try. And we don't have the time or skill to play twenty questions with these goons.' she reflected dismally.

She didn't have the tech knowhow to join the others in solving their problems. There was only one thing, really, which she was doing before she'd caught her quarry. 'Okay, I've got nothing better to do. I'll try retracing their steps, as Klyn said, and check out where they were camped in the superstructure. They weren't there for their comfort, I'll bet.' A transmitter? Or another bomb? Lyla left that unsaid, then left the room. 'See you soon.'

*

Lyla returned to the spot in the infrastructure between the hulls where she'd first sighted the ISC team, taking the time to reorient herself and recall what they were doing, where they'd run off to. Then, pushing herself carefully around the zero-G space, she began investigating each pipe and strut, each access panel and control unit, looking for signs of tampering or sabotage, something that didn't belong or something missing, or scuffs of dust and grime to indicate where someone had been recently.

Preparation for the drop out of Hyperspace

Not stopping to rest Lyla left the others in the sickbay and began here search of the starship, she began in the superstructure. The place was as smelly and greasy as before, after the earlier experience the feeling of zero-g was not so disorienting as before but made travelling difficult.

After cleaning himself up Nessquik plugged into a dataport and ran as many blocking programs as he could to try and hide their presence when the Handree entered real space.

Klyn gathered the active droids and prepared them to operate as relief crew to the starship in the absence of any other rebels to help them.

Rynn took a seat in the Engineering section and with the rerouted controls was ready to pilot the sub-light engines.
