Award Ceremony

Once Adar Tallon had seen that Quantros Starbound was in the best hands he ordered Chu-Shkar to share his research and finds with Tera and her companions. Adar expected a report from Tera covering any details that the Rebels should know about the mysterious man. He also demanded that the four of them remain together where Tera could monitor them for any unusual side-effects or dangers from the ancient technology and unknown man. The four of them returned to the Wookiee's laboratory where Chu-Shkar could check on the last of the carbonite and Tera could give Quantros a full medical examination and offer any medicine to aid the ancient holy man in his recovery from his long sleep. The best prescription the doctor could make was plenty of rest. After the long journey and their training Bron and Tera were tired also. All retired to sleep and continue their investigations in the morning.

The other Rebels got to known each other and find their bunks in the Alabak's Gold. The jumpship was loaded up in the morning and the X-wing tethered by harness and the Alabak's Gold's docking beam. It was only a short flight but a testing one for the ship, which had been jury rigged.

By midday the Alabak's Gold had flown into Neskroff. Rebel engineers claimed the downed X-wing and offered Klyn the use of the repair bay to finish his work on the starship.

Before people could do more runners gathered them all together and summoned them to the Audience Chamber. A ceremony was performed to congratulate the heroes that had defended the Rebel base and the many people that lived in it. Hundreds of troop, technicians and their families watched as Commander Adar Tallon gave his public thanks to the heroes and gave a speech to rally those present in the need for the Rebel Alliance to challenge and defeat the Empire. Tallon dressed as befitted his rank, as a commander of the Alderaanian Defence Force. He took such a uniform in solidarity and defiance of the Empire's slaughter of the peaceful planet's people. He brought many other ideas and idioms with him. In the conclusion of the ceremony and to reinforce the need for the Rebellion to become stronger and more organised Tallon awarded Lyla for her service to the Rebellion and made her Sergeant of the Alabak's Gold, also bestowing the ranks of Corporal on Klyn and Tera, and Private on Rynn.

Later in private after their decoration the heroes were feasted. Bron, Chu and Quantros accompanied Tera and were introduced to the rest of the crew. Quantros now recovered from his temporary blindness. To aid the crew Tallon named Jason Starflare as an ensign to the ship and let him join the celebrations with the others. Daruvvia champagne was served along side what few delicacies the base could offer. For the Rebels it was a real change from the shipbound rations or simple vegetables offered by Oglo's hydroponics.

Award Ceremony

After finishing off a good portion of the perishable food in the Alabak's Gold and what had been recovered from Wanderer, mealtime ended with Lyla undoing the top button of her trousers, lounging on the couch with her sore feet up, and burping occasionally. She continued getting to know the new crewmembers – and crewmembers they were bound to be – quizzing them on their skills and subtly gauging their temperament for future missions. They seemed alright, though she already knew Rynn after the Handree incident, and Jason Starflare's too-familiar winks were starting to annoy her. Lyla meanwhile was moving herself into a quiet leadership position, getting to know the new team and learning to manage them.

Exhausted, she slept long and deep and dreamless, yet satisfied in body, mind, and soul.

*

The next day, she supervised the last of cargo loading and oversaw the towing of the X-wing, but knew well to let the engineer and pilots manage the technical details as they saw fit. She just kept them moving and mediated the discussion. Otherwise, she helped out in the more basic tasks, unafraid to lend a hand or get it dirt.

*

Despite the rumours, Lyla was surprised to be summoned to a meeting, and surprised still further to find it in the Audience Chamber. She'd been expecting a discreet meeting in the commander's office, not the grand awards ceremony that awaited her. All those people in their fancy uniforms; she felt under-dressed in her working boots, cargo pants, and tank top with bra straps showing. She had more eyes on her now than when she'd taken her clothes off for a living, so she felt overdressed too. She wished she had a uniform, something with braiding and badges, but it didn't really suit their irregular special ops team. She'd have to ask about that later. She couldn't stop fidgeting nervously.

The speeches were long, and inspiration wore thin for her, but she was grinning from ear to ear for all the praise she was getting. From a poor orphan girl of Ryloth, a grubby spaceport street kid, a cantina dancer, a scruffy scout, to a heroine of the Rebel Alliance, Lyla was buoyant with pride, feeling she'd really come far, really made something great of herself. Her parents had been freedom fighters on Ryloth during the Clone Wars. For the first time, she felt they'd be really proud of her now.

Then she got her fancy gold badges, an award for bravery and service, and the rank of sergeant, draped around her neck by old Commander Tallon. Lyla was rather glad they'd rescued him now. She held them, teary-eyed and amazed. She was fascinated by these tokens, these titles, the authority bestowed. She tried out the names. Sergeant Lyl'arahn. Sergeant Lyla Rahn. Sergeant Rahn. Sergeant Lyla. Sarge.

Everything after passed in a dream. She warmly welcomed back Tera with a hug, but she barely registered Bron, the other robed guy, the Wookiee, and the rest, figuring they were Neskroff dignitaries and hangers-on.

Then there was a feast. No twi'lek could turn down an offer of food; there were whole codes of hospitality about it. And much of this was richer and finer than she'd seen or imagined before, from days of hunger on the streets and in the wilderness. Loading platefuls and emptying glasses of champagne, she sampled and ate much of all she could; it was only polite. Between the feast and emptying the ship's stores, Lyla had quite definitely restocked after the last few day's exertions and deprivations. She steadily filled three stomachs and converted the rest to fat, which a twi'lek could live off for days. This would be padded largely around the lekku, with a little more distributed around the bust and bum, so where Lyla was delightfully curvy, she would become more delightfully curvy. The next day would see Lyla up a cup size and with a few centimetres more tail all around. 'Mmm, th'zsh good schtuff.' she managed around mouthfuls.

Award Ceremony

Standing in the back of the award ceremony, Bron is wearing his best robes. Watching everyone he takes mental notes on the ongoings. Noting the advancement of rank bestowed on Tera, he thinks to himself this seems to be a rather interesting group, that I have fallen into. I may have to pay closer mind to them.

After the ceremony comes to a close,  Bron congratulates everyone, before finding his way to the dining hall. Bron had never seen so much food in his life, there was enough here to feed the orphans in the village on Kesh where he and his old Master visited when they came out of the wilderness. Enough to feed them for a full lunar cycle, if not longer. Eating minimally, Bron could not stomach much, when he knew there were many going hungry out there.

Bron went to find Commander Alan, and see what he could do about getting the left overs delivered to an orphanage or somewhere, that all those in need could be helped.

Jason kept quiet for most of the ceremony, he hadn't actually been around for any of that after all, but he's sure they earned it and he's pretty pleased to be working with them in the future.

"I know we just came from a big celebration, but I just wanted to say congrats myself as well. You deserve it. I just hope I get to be a part of your next adventure"

After congratulating the others he takes a glass of Champagne and takes a seat, satisfied to let the others celebrate and enjoy the rewards for their efforts.

Tera grinned as she received the promotion. From outcast, even among the rebels, where there had been a certain amount of distrust over the charges laid against her for genocide to Corporal in the rebellion. "Congratulations Sergeant Lyla Rahn" she said after the newly announced promotion.

Tera spent the time introducing her new companions to the rest of the team, before mingling with the large group of people present. It was always good to know people they might work with or that could help them in the near future.

He wished all of his fellow rebels well, but still wanted to leave the ceremony. Ah well it will be over soon enough. he thought.

'And congratulations, Corporal Tera Inkari.' Lyla returned to Tera, a big smile glued to her face. She congratulated all her team, even the newbies, trying out and playing with their new ranks and titles. She was sure she'd spotted T3-M8 in a polished and gleaming case rolling about as well. 'Thanks. I hope the next adventure won't be such a hard slog. I could do with infiltrating a Core-world holiday resort, myself.' she said to Jason. Team members had come and gone over the last two missions, either deserting or being called away to other duties, with others stepping in to help out here and there. But now, with ranks and accolades all around, a formal organisation, she felt they were a proper unit, a team. She hoped they'd stick together.

It was with a loud sigh of relief that Klyn saw the Gold finally land.
To be perfectly honest, he hadn't be entirely certain his makeshift repairs would hold... especially with the extra burden of the X-wing.

But as he was getting ready to REALLY work on his baby, he was forced to be present for a 'big ceremony'...

Killing time by making mental engenerring plan to add the recovered parts to the Gold, he nearly missed the calling of his name.

"What? corporal? " was all he could mumble.  He had absolutely no idea of the various military ranks, so he made a mental note to ask Tera or Jason. As former imperials, they had to be used to such things.

Despite his first plans, he somehow got caught in the 'niceness' of the moment and stayed much later than he had expected, sending his project to the next day.
"I wouldn't mind a mission which sees the Gold staying in one piece..." he added to Lyla's comment.

Award Ceremony

Quantros had spejnt time making sure he recovered well before the ceremony had been called. Now that his eyesight had returned he focused on two things, repairing his lightsaber, and memorizing the names and faces of those who first met him when he thawed. During that time, he learned more about the galactic events that had taken place. Alderaan's destruction, and the subsequent destruction of the Death Star. The second was most troubling. A weapon of that magnitude was on par with the Star Forge. That the Empire could build something with that kind of destructive force...

Quantros pushed such thoughts away. They served no purpose at the moment. For now, he just focused on the ceremony. He was happy to be awoken during a time of celebration. Now, he saw the faces of not just his future companions, but of the rebellion as a whole. People who only wanted to live their lives in harmony. People who did not want to fear the ones who brought order. He felt the happiness of these men and women, and hoped it would last.

Rynn wasn't all about Ceremonies, but he didn't complain. He knew others needed to celebrate victories to keep morale high. Thankfully people couldn't see him rolling his eyes under his suit.

He congratulated all the others on their promotions, but turned his mind to the future. "Lyla, You're the highest ranking, you want to be the one we can ask for a star fighter?" Rynn asked as they discussed what they wanted for their next mission. "An X-wing would be pretty great, as we wouldn't need to attach it to the Gold to jump to hyperdrive. It wouldn't be comfortable, but Jason and I can switch out who's piloting what."

"If we get a second ship, it'll open up what kind of missions our expanding group can do."

Once again, Lyla was just stunned to hear she was highest-ranking in the team. She was, wasn't she? 'You're asking me for an X-wing?' she repeated, wondering what Rynn was asking. 'Sure, good idea, but I'm gonna want a riding animal, like a bantha, dewback, or kybuck. They're great for getting around,' albeit slowly, 'And carrying loads, and they're quiet. Handy on a scouting expedition.' Flushed with success and alcohol, she was dreaming of what goodies she could claim for herself. Well, if they all got a vehicle of their own.... Besides, she wanted a pet.

Still, a practical mind bubbled out of the champagne, realising a bantha wouldn't take well to a small jump freighter or carry the whole team. She remembered something else. 'You know, those Imperials had a repulsorlift skiff they left somewhere outside Neskroff. We might want to claim that as well. It would save us from getting rentals.'

After the final course had been served a man in a flight suit rushed into the room, the man smiled flatly but did not apologise for their interruption. Rather he approached the taciturn Wookiee "Rekara has returned from Sedri, she's not making any sense. Her ship came screeching into the hangar, then she stumbled out and Mors Odrion isn't with her" he tried to explain just between the two of them.

About to expound on the benefits of kybucks, which she'd first encountered on Felucia, she was interrupted by a newcomer, and a request. She supposed she ought to expect people clamouring to join the famed and successful Rebel squad under the great Sergeant Rahn. 'Sorry, mate, we already have two guys competing for the pilot post. Tera Inkari:
"I'm a doctor, not a veterinarian, Lyla. If your pet falls sick, there isn't much I can do."

'How many different species do you treat anyway?' Lyla had wondered. There wasn't a lot of difference between many sentient races and non-sentient races; she'd met a kushiban once. Anyway, Isis wasn't an arable world; there were no livestock here, let alone banthas, dewies, and kybucks.

Quantros Starbound:
"Well in that case, maybe they'd be interested in helping a fellow Jedi reclaim his fighter."

'We just reclaimed a fighter, funnily enough.' she recalled.

She looked up as Tera excused herself, but decided a Wookiee with a belly-ache was no concern of hers, and not worth interrupting her industrious feasting over. She didn't know what half this food was, and didn't really care so long as it tasted good, though she was glad to see they'd rustled up some Rylothan twi'lek fare, just for her. Hearty rycrit stew and munch-fungus bread, with a cool glass of izzy-mold! She downed the fizzy algae alcopop, and tried not to burp too loudly.

So, people wanted to work with them, be a part of the team, get close to the twi'lek hero. That was fine, but it wasn't the time to be asking Lyla. No one had yet done the sensible thing of offering her more good food or to stroke her tails, or both at the same time. She wanted to celebrate in pure sensory indulgence, before she threw herself back into the hotside-desert-hell. She ought to go back to that spa later...

Jason merely shrugs, he's the first one to admit that he doesn't know much about how non human physiology works. Besides, everyone is having too much of a good time to be bothered about such little things.

"Well Tera said they were dangerous.. And I remember once seeing this program that explained that in a tropical jungle, the creatures with the most bright colours tend to be poisonous. Admittedly they were talking about simple creatures, not sentient beings. But considering we're on a planet where everything seems to have a crystalline origin, I don't think the idea that some poisonous species evolved into a sentient bipedal form is out of the question. And your people do tend to be brightly coloured don't they?"

He's pretty sure he's seen Twi'leks in blue, green, and even once in red colours. And of course Lyla's own yellow colour also kinda fits the theory, even if it doesn't pan out.

But the wilderness expert in her was pleased at Jason's deduction regardless. 'Well thought out. Poisonous prey creatures do tend to be brightly coloured, but as a warning – poison's no good if you still get eaten... But venomous predators tend not to advertise...' said wilderness expert explained.

'But no, twi'leks, and their – heh – lekku are not poisonous. At least, I've not heard of anyone dying from eating one of us. You'd be surprised how rarely that comes up... No, the colours are just a genetic variation, like hair or skin colour, but with more flair. It used to be a racial thing, I'm orgean, but we're pretty mixed up now.'

Jason considers that and nods.

"Yeah.. I guess humans have several variations of skin colours too.. Ours just aren't so.. well.. Colourful.."

He's about to turn back to his drink when he looks back at Lyla.

"So why does Tera think your lekku are dangerous?"

'Not dangerous to others...' Lyla chewed her lip for a while, then decided, like ripping off a bacta-patch, to just get it over with. He'd just keep asking until he knew. Fortunately, she was drunk enough not to be embarrassed, and shameless enough not to care. Lyla lifted her lekku-tchin over her shoulder, putting it on display, her tentacle gently writhing in her hand. 'Everyone thinks they're a weakness, but lekku are long and thin to help radiate away heat, keeping us cool. The day side of Ryloth is mostly hot desert, you see. They also contain stores of fat we can live off, and some muscles to move them. Not strong enough to be prehensile, but enough for basic movement, a gesture or something.' To demonstrate, she let the end wiggle around her plate to clean up the sauce. She could only control roughly the bottom half, the muscles weren't strong enough versus the weight to make it fully prehensile.

'But, inside, near the top, are cores of brain matter. Mostly managing motor functions and long-term memory. So an injury can be pretty serious. I banged them in the crash, then again when a Gutretee thumped me in the head, and suffered flashbacks alongside a concussion.' She indicated a spot near the top of lekku-tchin, but the bruises had healed now.

'So, anyway, the nerve endings are pretty short but plentiful down the length, making them sensitive to temperature, wind, and especially touch. Getting hit in them stings like frack, trust me. But if touched gently...' She shrugged, admitting at last 'They're erogenous zones. Hence the playing with.' To keep from smirking, she tried to stuff her mouth with food, but only had her saucy lekku-tchin to hand. So she sucked that off, with the guiltiest look a twi'lek could have.

"I am Rekara, listener to the sorrow" the half craze Mon Calamari replied to Tera, she held the hunk of rock close to her chest and shook her head sadly.

Kneeling down next to the Mon Calamari Woman, Bron closes his eyes and focuses on her. Reaching forward in a non hostile, and gentle manor Bron places his finger tips on her shoulder.

Be calm

Bron extends his feelings, touching the Mon Calamari woman and the stone, searching for anything that might explain what happened to her.

Her head continued to shake as the two Jedi tried to calm her. When Bron reached out to her with his mind she recoiled violently to huddle in the corner the rock in her hands held in front of her defensively, as if to ward of some attack.

She whimpered to herself sadly "Odrion? Poor Odrion. On Sedri, strange Sedri. We must rescue him! We must stop the crying!"

Jason considers that while watching Lyla lick sauce off her own Lekku and even though he'd watched it before, it seems different now, but he quickly shakes his head. She's his direct superior now, so whatever brief fantasies he might have had are done with now.

"I guess that's not entirely different from human hair.. Aren't nerve endings at the top of our heads and connected to our hair some of the most sensitive ones we have? Still it's good to know these things.."

Then he considers something else and smirks.

"So if part of your brain is inside your Lekku, that makes it larger than mine? Must be why you're in charge, I also need your help with my next tax return.. or at least I would if i wasn't a traitor.."

Dropping her supple tail in her lap, Lyla shrugged. 'I dunno about you humans. Ask Tera. But wouldn't it hurt like hell every time you got a haircut?' Not actually having any fur, Lyla didn't know how that worked. Humans were weird.

She made a show of considering Jason's next question on relative brain sizes. 'You know, I reckon it is!' she teased. 'Yup, old twi'leki saying: I've got the tails for this job.' She tapped her head/lekku-tchin meaningfully, then took a sip of her drink.

Then, with mock suspicion, she demanded 'Wait. Is that the real reason you went to the Rebels? A tax dodge?'

"Well I was a tie fighter pilot, who would have thought i'd make it to tax day!"
He looks back towards the way Tera went.

"Think we should check in on her? Find out what's going on?"

Klyn quickly lost interest in the exchange between Jason and Lyla.

He wondered a bit if the pilot was trying to flirt with her, but quickly shrugged the notion.  His thoughts wandered back to the Gold. Mainly on the subject of which part to add first.  And if Tera managed to get a bacta tank, some energy derivations would be needed... and a good check on waterproofness in the medical bay... just in case.

Klyn blinked a few times before the question really reached him.

"Well... I'm currently trying to decide how to modify the twin cannons on the Gold.  I could have increase both to 4 canons, or keep one main at 4 and 3 as twin canons...

I need to check on the Gold to see how to make sure we can fire at almost all angle while keeping a possibility to keep a good front and rear fire power."

Lyla glanced idly around the hall, none too interested. 'Nope, I think they all went off together. I mean, you can't miss a wookiee, right? ...Maybe it was a hairball.' Though she was determined not to let anything spoil her celebratory mood, she was starting to grow concerned for Tera, who'd been gone a while. She had a bad feeling about this. All this fuss and urgency had the makings of a mission. 'They'll call us if they need anything.' she decided.

Huddled in the corner Rekara continued to weep. As Chu-Shkar took her in his long arms she did not resist him, some sense of recognition passed between the two and in a lucid motion she recognised the fellow member of the diplomatic corps.

"The Golden sun turns the sea gold" she whimpered as she clung to Chu-Shkar. Her energies were spent now she had found a place she felt safe. In the Wookiee's arm she went quiet and withdrawn, her eyes sad but no longer crazed.

Quantros had felt outcast, and had looked on to the events unfolding. Now, more than ever, he felt out of place here. His time had long since past, and maybe he might've been useful, once. However, though he felt welcome, this feeling of uselessness to the present situation irritated him. He had no better ideas on how to deal with the Calamari woman, and Bron seemed to have had the same idea he did on where to find more clues. He tried to recollect himself, thinking it'd be a good idea to calm his thoughts before proceeding with the situation.
