Desperate Battle

The sounds of battle grew louder as Quantros piloted the speeder-raft toward it. Ahead the pair saw six Imperial seatroopers on waveskimmers, small, one-man repulsorcraft, They were swirling around a rock outcropping which jutted a few feet from the sea. In the rocks, pinned down by the seaptroopers' fire was a huge seal-like creature with a humanoid upper torso and head. It wore some sort of headband or crown. It bellowed with fear and anger as the seatroopers closed in.

Desperate Battle

OOC Roll Initiative and give me some actions. I have assumed that Quantros is pilot on the speeder-raft.

At that point, those enemy troopers will be focused on us! From there, we can lure them in, and deal with them as we see fit!"

Desperate Battle

Without accelerating to full throttle Quantros kept a good speed and brought him and Bron closer to the battle. The sea troopers circle the rocks and the stranded humanoid. The Imperial seatroopers executed an organised attack as four troopers closed in and coordinated their fire. Two others remained slightly further away, keeping cover over their squad mates.

Bron senses the power of the Force dwells within the creature under attack. The creature ducked and dodged the blaster bolts but the pressure and efficiency of the seatrooper attack was sure to defeat the creature in time.

Desperate Battle

OOC The range to the nearest seatrooper is 125 squares, the range to the seal-like creature is 160 squares.

Pushing the engine Quantros gave more power to the repulsor engines. The speeder accelerated toward its maximum velocity. The green ocean splashed at the pair and sprays of water whipped at them.

The seatroopers continued to harass and shoot at the stranded creature. The seal-like humanoid bellowed and thrashed it tail. So far the seatroopers were unable to injure it but time would surely wear it down.

As the pair on the speeder-raft came closer one of the seatroopers turned their head to watch their approach.

Desperate Battle

OOC Nearest seatrooper is now 78 squares away. You can now use All out movement of up to 55 squares.

At their approach two of the seatroopers spun on their waveskimmers. Blaster bolts soon followed at the streaks of energy filled the air. Harmlessly the bolts fizzled out in water around them. Equally the stranded humanoid remained unharmed as four of the seatroopers continued to blast at it.

The interruption and obvious aggressiveness of Quantros's piloted had the seatroopers continued their fire. Arcs of deadly fire leapt across the ocean, fizzling into the sea or scorching the side panels of the speeder-raft.

Close up Bron and Quantros could see the humanoid. It was large, the upper body had arms but the lower body was a powerfully muscled tail. A golden circlet was worn on its head.

Slowing the boat to a crawl, Quantros spun the boat around with a whoosh of spray, and circled the rock formation where the creature was. Under fire from the Imperial seatroopers Quantros demonstrated his courage as he circled the rocky outcrop and called out to the stranded alien. He piloted the raft ably and with the a powerful flick of his tail the alien dived into the sea and flipped onto the sanctuary of the speeder. Blaster bolts bounced off the sea and raft, both Bron and the alien were able to evade them but Quantros at the helm of the seacraft was too clear a target. A blast of red energy struck him.

"Gah!" Quantros yelped as the blaster bolt singed his back. "Oh, for pity's sake!" He glowered towards the stormtrooper that shot him, before sighing, and looking ahead. "We need to get back to the Alabak's Gold! Our first priority is to ensure the safety of our new friend here!" Though the raft was picking up speed, he maintained enough control to reach out with the Force, and use it to pulverize the stormtrooper directly in their path. He breathed as the raft traveled, re-attuning himself to the Force after such use.

Once the native humanoid had been rescued Quantros began their escape. The Force user came out of their spinning trajectory and made his way toward the nearest Imperial seatrooper. The ocean frothed beneath the speeder as Quantros reached out and gripped the trooper. The trooper thrashed in vain against the power of the Force. Seeing that the Rebels were going to break through their ring and escape the other seatroopers closed in, their blasters firing accurately as one shot struck Bron lethally.

Seeing Bron and Quantros both being shot up badly, not to mention predictably, Lyla cursed their recklessness. That they'd brought it on themselves, that this was exactly what she'd warned them about, didn't make it any easier to watch. Tracking another waveskimmer-riding seatrooper, she fired another well-aimed blaster bolt, hoping to keep the Imperials off the two fools and the poor Sedran long enough for rescue.

The Rebel speeder-raft without a pilot drifted to a stop. The Imperial seatroopers like predators began to close in around it. Then Rynn pushed the other raft to join the battle, accelerating across the waves to the battle. Over the sides of the raft the other Rebels all shot and hit. The seatrooper  who had been thrown in the sea thrashed about and climbed back aboard his waveskimmer, whilst two more were knocked into the sea as blaster bolts knocked them into the green ocean.

Disciplined the other three troopers coordinated their fire onto Rynn in an attempt to stop any pursuit. A burst of blue energy struck the Ubese pilot.

Desperate Battle

'Cruk! Hold on, Rynn!' They'd gotten the seatroopers' attention now, and were drawing fire to match. She didn't want to repeat Quantros's mistake. Well, she hadn't – she'd brought a blaster rifle. She spared a glanced for Tera and Klyn and their blaster pistols, not much better. They had to match the troopers' own teamwork. 'Tera, Klyn, concentrate fire on the one on the left, support each other. I'll snipe those further away.' Aiming her SG-4, her new girl's best friend, she fired off a shot at a seatrooper on the other side.

OOC:
Targeting the seatrooper on the bottom right, closest to Quantros & Bron. Should be in Short Range (up to 60 squares with rifle).
Two swift: Aim with targeting scope, reduce Short Range to Point Blank range
Point Blank Shot: +1 attack and damage
Standard: attack 16, damage 23

Klyn couldn't stop himself from hunching his shoulder as the blaster's ray flew around.

Luckily he wasn't hit but it's only when he heard Rynn's grunt of pain that he understood why. Of course they would try to get rid of the pilot first to turn them into sitting ducks.

"Ok" he laconically answered to Lyla's command before shooting.

Desperate Battle

Racing above the ocean Rynn drove the waterspeeder onward and toward Bron and Quantros. At the port and starboard the other Rebels blasters fired down a rain of explosive energy, toppling seatroopers from their waveskimmers to sink beneath the green seas.

The last two Imperials fired a final desperate shot before turning their waveskimmers and beginning their retreat.

Desperate Battle

OOC With no action from Rynn I have assumed a double Move.

Lyla ducked the bolt, but was back up in a flash, aiming her deadly rifle once more. 'Maintain fire! We can't let them raise the alarm.' she warned grimly. Killing had become too easy, she thought, as she centred the cross-hairs on the soldier's back and squeezed off another shot.

Desperate Battle

More shots from Lyla and Tera knocked the fleeing seatroopers from their waveskimmers. The Imperial soldiers toppled into the sea and the green waters claimed them. Six waveskimmers bobbed placidly on the surface of the sea where before battle had raged. One seatrooper remained, slumped lifelessly over the small repulsorcraft's steering column.

As Rynn piloted the speeder-raft toward the other the Alabak's Gold emerged from under the sea. The ship's sensors and scanners did not detect any other Imperials in the area. Groggily Bron and Quantros awoke to see their shipmates gathered around them. Also on the speeder-raft was the unknown alien. Now the battle was over and everyone could take the time to appraise each other the alien appeared half human and half animal, powerful arms and a broad chest developed into a tail and fins instead of legs. The only ornamentation it wore was a beautifully engraved golden circlet on its head. The alien barked and whistled at the Rebels as it jumped back into the sea once the seatroopers that had tried to kill it had been defeated.

OOC Combat ended. Any trained in Galactic Lore and/or Social Sciences can make checks.

Blinking his eyes open, Quantros sat up, having slumped over the console. He looked to where his hand was, and somehow, he had pushed the throttle down into the neutral position while he was unconscious. He grumbled something about the Force before looking around at the rest of the crew. His eyes then fixed on Lyla. "Ah, just who I needed to see." Quantros turned his attention to the controls of the raft, before facing Lyla. "Commander Rynn, if I may talk to you privately?" He made a show of reengaging the raft's engine, before adding "Ma'am?"

Lyla stood at the prow of the speeder-raft like a majestic figurehead, riding the boat as it came in. She barked orders to the team, urging them to speed and action. 'Rynn, pull us alongside! Tera, check those clowns. And someone grab that trooper! Move move move!'

As they came alongside, she leaped the gap between the rafts, regarding the strange, half-man, half-seal alien. Lyla showed it an open hand, 'Hi, I'm—' before it barked and whistled at her and dove away. 'Okay then.'

That left the two heroes of the hour, Bron and Quantros, slowing coming around. They were alive, at least, but suffering much more than bruised egos. Lyla looked down at the pair, framed by the sun and glowing golden in the glare. There were a hundred things she could say; she could throw back Quantros's "Somehow, 'I told you so' doesn't seem to cut it.", she could make some cool or clever remark, or she could settle for just cursing them as idiots. But she had no words, and she really didn't need to say anything at all. A bunch of blaster holes weren't worth the bickering. She just gazed down on them with silent pity.

She cocked a head at the Ubese pilot of the other raft. 'He's Rynn, I'm Rahn. But you can call me Lyla... We can talk later, alone, if you want.' Did this mean he was coming around, wanting to make amends? She would give him that chance. 'I figure I'll probably push you into the water now.'

OOC: I'd hoped to have a chance to use this now, before the battle ended, but was a round and a few hours late. I'll try to squeeze it in now, if I may, if only for effect.

Quantros brought a palm to his face, as he silently chastised himself for his mistake. "Rahn, then. Look, I had a talk with Bron earlier, and I now have something to say that you need to hear." So I'd appreciate it if I could get this off my chest as soon as possible. And no, I don't want to say it in front of everyone, because I'm certain they'll question the sincerity of what I say."

'I wasn't joking.' Lyla stated flatly. She wasn't angry, or smug, only weary, wary, and a little annoyed. But she relented, softening and saying 'I only said "later" because everyone's around now, and we need to talk to that Sedran you rescued. And you did rescue him, so thanks...' she admitted, watching the whistling seal-man swim away. 'Besides, I like a cool-down period after a fight.' And before a fight. She knew she had a hot temper, and she didn't want to get into another argument. She figured time off for both of them would be helpful, but if Quantros wanted to talk now, and settle things, then she wouldn't prevent that.

Lyla pointed to the unconscious seatrooper slumped on the drifting wave-skimmer. 'We'll take the raft over and pick him up. We can talk on the way... Off you get, Bron, Tera will check you out.' she said, helping the other one cross between the rafts.

Then he reaches out towards the comlink, hoping this planet's interference doesn't affect short range communications.

"Hey guys, any chance you can try to grab some of those sea troopers. I could strip the armor and make use of it"

It's a little dark perhaps to strip the armor of a group of corpses who were men only minutes ago. But then again, it's war, and in war you can't afford to toss away good equipment.

Klyn found the dazed seatrooper just returning to consciousness when he board the waveskimmer "I surrender" the trooper yielded and let Klyn take him back the others. The waveskimmer was obviously designed for scout and patrol missions, it consisted of a powerful repulsorlift engine with two small thrust engines. Designed for a single pilot it had room for a passenger to straddle the engine block. The seatrooper was wearing stormtrooper armour that had been adapted for aquatic engagements, attached was a propulsion pack allowing fast movement. On board the waveskimmer was also a SG-4 blaster rifle, a harpoon and a stun grenade.

As the speeder-raft slowed down on the approach to the little rocky outcrop, Lyla stood up and tried to make a friendly, peaceful gesture – arms low and out to the sides, fingers spread to show empty hands, which should be minimally offensive to most alien races and cultures. For now, her talk with Quantros was set aside; things might not be fully resolved, but he seemed humanised to her now.

Lyla realised this outcrop had be the tip of a sunken hill, mountain, or ridge, so the seabed wouldn't be too far below. The dead troopers wouldn't have sunk too far down either. Had the sea-levels risen in the ancient past to leave these isolated mountain tips?

She answered the Sedran clearly and slowly 'I am sorry, we do not understand. Do you speak Galactic Standard?' If he didn't, this could be a problem. They might need Rekara to translate, and there was no guarantee they wouldn't just get nonsense out of her.

Well, that wasn't much clearer. "Fish-killer?" The Imperials were probably thoughtlessly destroying local fish stocks, Lyla considered. She'd seen the mess they'd made on Felucia. She realised the Sedrans were probably not a spacefaring society, and probably knew little about life beyond the sky. That didn't make them fools though. But why then were the Imperials and the Alliance coming here? 'Ask him if he knows of Rekara or Mors Odrion, the Alliance representatives.'

Quantros breathed, trying to find a way to best approach Lyla. He knew their relation was rocky, and he didn't exactly know how to respond to the situation he was in. And how would he? Name someone else who spent generations in slumber. Chances are, they were monsters. 'Might as well test the waters,' thought Quantros. As the skimmer drove to the rock formation, he began speaking. "I know I've been a bit of a Bantha's ass. I assure you, I'm not normally like this. I've just been irritated at my situation, and I've been wrongfully taking it out on those around me. It's been...difficult to adjust." It was slight, but his breathing became a bit more intense as he remembered the circumstances that brought him here.

Perched in the back of the raft, Lyla was quiet for a while – too long, she thought – chewing on Quantros's words. She had to wonder if he was sincere or just saying what she wanted to hear. Twi'leks could make insincerity into an artform, but it had never sat well with Lyla; she usually took people at their word, and she decided to take Quantros at his. More, she hadn't had a lot of experience at counselling like this. Goddess knew she had enough issues of her own. What should she say to someone who'd been frozen for aeons? 'Well, I'm glad you said it...' she stalled, fishing for something to say like fishing in the sea all around them.

'Look, I don't know what to say. Tera's probably got a degree in this sort of thing... I'm sorry, what happened to you was poodoo. But it seems to me you could've done with some time off in Neskroff, getting used to things, not getting back in the game.' she suggested, but that seemed no good now. 'I, I think I know a little of what it's like. Locked in a freezer for far too long, losing everyone, being out of touch, missing out on everything. The grief, resentment, and frustration... I just had a lot of time to walk it off. Before we're ready to rejoin civilisation, the first thing we need to be is alone.'

Well, that was promising. He hadn't expected her to be so understanding so quickly. "I agree with you, there. Unfortunately, Command sees fit to rush mentally and emotionally unstable people into combat zones. But to be fair to them, at least that's consistent after five thousand years." He gave a chuckle at his own joke, before sighing.

'Hey, we're Rebels. If we were stable and baggage-free we'd still be in the Empire.' Lyla joked, glad to share some basic humour with Quantros. It was certainly a start.

"I want you to understand, also. My motives for going out to fight alone was nothing more than a reality check. You probably won't believe me, but there was once a time where I could've taken that entire squad on singlehandedly, wiped them out with but a wave of my hand. I didn't realize how far I had fallen in terms of power. Please understand, I needed to do this. I needed to gauge myself, to see how pitiful I've become. I'm...not used to relying on others. If anything, when I was at my peak, others would actually rely on me." His breathing was now a bit heavier, and his eyes were becoming red.

She eyed Quantros wonderingly, if it was true what he said about his capabilities or if it just big-noting. Were things really that different back then? 'You almost got yourself killed, and Bron too. That's an expensive lesson.' she reminded him.

Quantros growled at the reminder, kicking himself. "I know he could've gotten killed. Believe me, he's the only one I can actually trust to be honest with me at a time like this. But, he was foolish to not say anything about his lack of training. Had I known that he didn't know how to properly use the Force, I would've left him behind, and faced the squad on my own." His voice sounded upset, more with himself than at Bron. "I realize that's no excuse for it, but it is the way it's supposed to be. If I am to die, I'd rather die defending those who cannot defend themselves. All Jedi are taught to do so, so I'm certain Bron feels the same way." He sighs, as if sensing a question, or perhaps a lecture.

Quantros preempts any such thing, speaking before Lyla. "First and foremost, the Jedi are guardians. Jedi use the Force and their abilities to protect others from harm. If part of a squad, Jedi will guard their squadmates by using their lightsabers to deflect incoming fire, or by using the Force to create cover for their squad to move up. But if a Sith is encountered, Jedi prefer to go into battle without the aid of their companions. Jedi realize that Sith are merciless, cruel, and will not hesitate to use their companions as a means to control them. It's why those in the Jedi order are forbidden from forming emotional attachments. Yet despite this, Jedi are obligated to sacrifice everything, including their lives if necessary, in order for others to survive."

Listening, Lyla had a blank look, not uncomprehending, just not really caring. She could say the same things about her role in the Alliance irregulars. Recent arguments just hadn't made her particularly interested in the Jedi faith, except where Tera might speak of it, and she was in no mood for a history lesson. 'Except there wasn't one of these Sith, was there?' she pointed out. 'Just the stormtrooper mooks and this Sedran. You think he's this Force user? The one you came to fight is the one you rescued. What does that say for trusting your feelings?' she probed, trying to get to the heart of the issues affecting the team.

'Look, we all work off instinct, gut reactions, feelings, beliefs, in one way or another. We use them when evidence comes up short. I could tell you "I have a bad feeling about this" or the Goddess's wind guides me or that I have an itch in my left tail. Would you accept that as evidence? Do you think your feelings trump ours? Or does the Force influence us too, in different ways?' she pressed, pausing to let him ponder that. 'We came to the same decisions in the end. Our faiths are different, but they don't have to contradict.' she suggested, then smirked playfully 'And you don't have to be a patronising bantha-arse about it either.'

Sighing, Quantros swallowed his pride, in a literal sense. He delivered his next statements in an even tone. "Even I make mistakes, and I'm willing to admit it when I do. But only on my terms." Quantros allowed himself a smirk to shoot back at Lyla. "And I'd love to tell you about the intricacies of the Force, the people of the galaxy, and how all are intertwined and affected by it, but I seem to have drained my ego when I was bested by a few conscripts with blasters. True, I don't have to patronize you, but it's just more fun that way." He then held up a finger, as if making a point. "But I do wish to clarify what exactly I believe.

"I see every sentient as a starship. Every Force Sensitive is a starship with an unstable power core. It cannot be repaired, it cannot be replaced, and it will remain with the ship throughout its entire service growing more and more powerful, attracting other ships with similar power cores. It is up to the engineer to maintain the core. When the engineer does a good job, the starship can easily outperform others without the use of additional weaponry or gadgets, and will become legends in their times. But when the engineer bangs on the power core like a terrified Gamorrean taking a mallet to a Womp Rat, the entire ship goes to hell, and the crew becomes twisted, as the power turns them to piracy. It is the job of the ships with the good engineers to teach the ships with the poor engineers, offering their experience with the power cores so the newer ships don't fall and become a shell of their former selves. To avoid that fate is difficult to do on your own. Even I had help." Quantros pauses to let his words reach Lyla, before holding up his lightsaber.

Suddenly, and uncharacteristically, Quantros began waving his lightsaber up and down frantically, as if he was desperately trying o use it to smack something on the ground. The entire time, he mimicked the high pitched squeal of a terrified Gamorrean, as best as his vocal range would allow. He had felt that his concerns were getting too serious for comfort, and hoped that his antics would break the tension that he felt was building with his description. Maybe Lyla would find it humorous.

As Quantros whipped out his laser-sword and began his antics, Lyla scooted away across the raft, as far as possible without tipping herself into the sea, which remained on the table. Concern turned to bewilderment as she realised his bad joke, but then she was back to suspecting he was a crazy person. With a tired smile, she looked down at the deck, shaking her head in despair. 'You Jedi... Bron saw the Jedi destroy themselves, tear the whole Galaxy up, and misses his old mentor. Of course he looks up to some old master from the distant past. He trusted you to handle that fight. You have a responsibility... And Tera, she's interested in the Force and Jedi and this stuff, but if you keep pushing her, you'll only push her away... Watch your own power core first. If you've got something to show and teach, then show and teach. Pull, don't push.' she advised, then added a warning 'Or else I'll push you into the sea.'

Quantros blinked, before he put his lightsaber back. Something Lyla said seemed to make him consider something, but he shook his head and returned to reality. "Duly noted." His hands returned to the raft's controls. "Now then, let's go see our native friend, shall we?"

Chu-Shkar was glad to see that Quantros and Lyla were not at each others throats, he had observed their talk on the waveskimmer. He didn't know what was said, but they seemed less hostile towards each other. Seeing no threats on the sensors he decided to search around to see if he could find any spare computer parts. Maybe he could do something about this communications blockage.

The Alabak's Gold's nav computer possessed a limited capacity for reprogramming. Chu-Shkar was able to access the ship's databanks and create a program that could translate the Sedri language. About ten minutes of work and he had a program that would translate any Sedri picked up on the ship's comlink.

For someone who had chosen to work with machines because it was easier to talk to them and less trouble about interpretation, Klyn was finding it a bit ironic - and troublesome - to act as an interpret.

"I think you are right about the imperials.  They are apparently killing the sea life."

At that moment, his miniaturized wrist-com biped and he was up for another round of being the protocol droid.  But Chu-Shkar had obviously managed to get his hands on some of the files linked to the situation where Klyn heard a close language.

"Good news everyone"
"Chu-Shkar didn't stay idle and he managed to implement a protocol to translate our friend's language."

Desperate Battle

Lyla swore at the confirmation that the Imperials were killing sea creatures for some reason. It would probably starve the Sedrians. Once again, their arrogance and thoughtlessness were ruining the Galaxy.

She nodded at the news of the translation program, and loaded it on her comlink. 'Good work... By the way, what language is he speaking, if you've heard it before?' Lyla wondered, curious to find out. It would help to have some idea what Sedri's previous interstellar contacts had been, who'd they talked to, and how they'd gone.

She took a step forward toward the Sedrian, albeit still on the boat, aware that the crowd of humanoids and an artificial interpreter would make it confusing as to was speaking. 'Hello. I'm Lyla, this is Klyn, Rynn, and Quantros.' she introduced the team, those who were hanging around here, anyway. 'We're glad to save you from the fish-killers. Why were they attacking you? What were they doing?'

When Lyla turned her attention to the Sedrian the alien stooped to pick up a bag and slinging over a shoulder faced her and nodded "Pek" he introduced himself. The remainder of his talking was words interspersed with the occasional bark and whistle. It was incomprehensible to most of the crew. There was a short delay whilst the Alabak's Gold broadcast a translation to their comlinks "the fish-killers arrived in small floating shells. Since they have been here they have been going full fluke to build something, killing all the sea life as they do so. I came on behalf of my father to see what was going on. The fish-killers attacked me when they found me spying".

So that explained that. Lyla wondered what the Imperials were up to; it had to be something to do with this so-called Golden Sun, the new power source / potential weapon rumoured to exist here. They had to investigate that, in addition to finding Odrion. First, utilise local knowledge. 'What did you see? Can you tell us where the fish-killers are based? How many are there?'

An enormous floating shell sounded like a ship to Lyla, or maybe some kind of sea-rig. Either way, it would be a fortified base. Her next answer came with weary words. 'Yes. On other worlds, in other seas, and in the sky. They've killed lots of people, and lots of fish.' She changed the topic, back to the first thing she'd asked about. The Sedran appeared mammalian, and thus an air-breather, but that didn't guarantee the settlement wasn't wholly submerged in an air bubble, or would otherwise be hard to reach. They needed to be equipped for any situation. 'Who is your father? How might he help us?' Pek's gold adornments suggested high status of some kind.

Perhaps you should ask my father he is a caretaker, he may be able to say more" he said reticently, gratefully for the help they had done him but guarded his words as he spoke to strangers.

OOC Quantros gains +11 hit points and cannot benefit from another medpac for 24 hours. Treat Injury check on Bron failed. Tera uses 2 of her 3 medpacs, she can still retry expending her last one on Bron.

In his words and body language, Lyla read Pek's caution and anxiety in speaking about the Golden Sun. Whatever it was, it was clearly important to the Sedrians – perhaps sacred, if a high priest was its caretaker. Another reason, as if any more were needed, to stop the Empire from getting its hands on it. 'Okay. It's just that we're afraid the fish-killers are trying to steal it. We want to stop them.' she explained, in case Pek got the wrong idea about their motives here as well.

'We'll ask your father about everything. We just need to go back to our, uh, big floating shell to meet our friends and grab a few things to help us underwater.' Lyla pointed back to the slowly incoming Alabak's Gold, hoping the sight of a spaceship wouldn't spook the Sedrian too much.

When Lyla consented to Pek taking them to meet his father the Sedrian waited patiently as they boarded the Alabak's Gold to prepare. Klyn gathered up the six waveskimmers. Once the two speeder-rafts were docked there was limited room to also claim the waveskimmers. They could leave behind a speeder-raft or dump some of the glider sails, otherwise there wouldn't be room to take them.

In the new medbay Tera and Jason settled the injured Bron down. Lyla went to cabin and the Twi'lek donned her divesuit.

OOC The DC for using a medpac is 15 so Tera succeeded on her first attempt and with a +2 for using a medical kit she heals 3 hits points.

With most of the crew out of the cargo hold, Quantros slumped down on one of the cargo crates. He suddenly winced, his hand shooting to his lower back. "Agh! What in blazes?!" Reaching into his robe, Quantros pulled out a white cube, with glowing blue and purple engravings. A Holocron? I forgot I had this. What- He suddenly inhaled sharply. I know what's on this... Rynn Culmar:
He looked at her and whispered so the creature couldn't hear. "What exactly are you hoping we'll find down there?"

There didn't seem much need to whisper, as Pek clearly didn't speak Basic, though Lyla lowered her voice regardless, as speaking aloud untranslated could be seen as rude. She explained her thoughts to the team. 'Local knowledge: what the Sedrians know of Imperial activity, what happened to Odrion, what this Golden Sun is. The lay of the land – or the sea, so to speak. It can't hurt to find out what they know first, and make friends of the locals.' She waved to Pek before returning to the speeder-raft.

As it was turned around for the ride back to the Gold, Lyla sighed and shook her head as medpac after expensive medpac went to waste patching up the two foolhardy Jedi. 'Maybe you should leave a scar or two as a reminder.' she suggested to Tera with a teasing grin for the two patients. 'Well, I hope you two have learned the value of teamwork. 'Coz a little fish tells me you might not be as pompous as we thought.' she added, hinting at her private conversation with Quantros, and hoping the others would take it that she was giving them a second chance because of it.

Back in the ship, she left Tera to their work, slipping back to her quarters to change. An aquata breather was good for an emergency or brief use, but the trip to Fitsay could take a while, and for that they needed the long-term usefulness of the underwater breathing suits. So Lyla changed out of her yet-to-be-wetted bikini and climbed into the divesuit, though a skin-tight, body-hugging suit had its own allures. She checked her tails were strapped down, and the practiced folding her pointed ears into cones to keep out the water. Check, check, and check.

Afterward, she went to where Klyn was docking the pilfered waveskimmers, wondering how they had so many. More than they needed, at any rate. 'We could keep two waveskimmers as outriders, and sink the rest, to deny them to the Imps. Can we moor them outside?'

Once they were ready Pek dived down deep, although he swam well and was clearly able to breathe in the water he did not delve deeper than about thirty metres at any time. The Alabak's Gold had no trouble keeping pace with the Sedrian.

After travelling for a while they come upon the city of Fitsay, it was like landing on a planet from space through the sparkling water. From above the city looks fairly small. A large shell dome dominates the centre of the area. To one side a bench-like structure rises up from the sandy bottom and on the other a complex of interconnected stone buildings filled the watery depths. About half a kilometre to the northwest the terrain begins to slope up toward mountainous peaks that form a sheer cliff wall further back.

Sedrians swim through and amongst the buildings. In what appears to be a marketplace one Sedrian bellows at a gathering crowd.

OOC The journey takes about seven hours so Bron and Quantros both gain 7 hit points.

Re: Desperate Battle

'I think that was the plan.' Lyla agreed to Klyn and Chu-Shkar, 'In fact, it's our default operation.'

She regarded the waveskimmers thoughtfully. 'Maybe we could jam 'em in the Jedi's quarters...' She shrugged. 'Okay, stick one in the cargo bay, if it'll fit. I'd rather we have one, just in case we need it. We could always sell it on the black market if not.'

*

When it came time to set off, Lyla dove fluidly into the water after Pek, swimming after him. Sure, she could ride in the safety and dryness of the Alabak's Gold, but having a massive and ungainly spaceship following a single swimmer seemed quite hazardous, not to mention impolite. So as not to seem aloof, she would follow the Sedrian in person, and the pilots could follow her and her comlink signal.

Besides, it gave Lyla practice in the divesuit and at swimming in general, though soon her arms and legs ached with unused-to exertions, a dull burn that made her feel stronger and more capable for the future. Still, Lyla had to stop and rest a few times over the seven-hour swim, letting the suit's jets propel her along in lieu of legs.

It also gave her a useful familiarity with the underwater environment. The world under the sea was so much vaster and stranger than she'd ever seen on the surface, and she saw all kinds of fish, cephalapods, shell fish, crabs, corals, and anemones. She asked Pek about some of them, though the need for translators made conversation limited. She could feel the water currents on her tails, and felt connected to the natural world in an even more intimate way than before.

At last, they came upon the city. Lyla was impressed, but wondered why the Sedrians had built it underwater. If mammalian, then surely they were air-breathers. Or had they evolved away from that? Did they contain air in that dome? She would find out soon.

Lyla pointed to the crowd and the Sedrian haranguing them. 'What's going on down there?' she asked Pek, sending a translation.

OOC: I presume our translators work underwater?

Re: Desperate Battle

Jason spends the entire time simply just flying along, there really isn't that much of a trick to it. There aren't many dangerous obstacles, no sea monsters to bother them, and in truth, it's a pretty dull trip. So he's extremely glad when they finally spot this city they seem to be heading to.

He studies the city for a while and then slowly get's out of the pilot's chair. It isn't easy for him to give up piloting anything. But he feels he might be able to help out a lot out there.

"If one of you could be so kind to take over here.. I'll go put on that armor, and see if i can't help Lyla out.."

He reaches out for the com to contact Lyla.

"If you see a seatrooper come out of our ship, don't shoot, it'll be me.. I'll come give you a hand.."

He waits just a moment to see if Lyla or anyone else will object.

Chu-Shkar spend most of the trip puttering around with the scavenged materials. It's not clear yet what exactly he's making, but that's probably due to it not having all the parts yet. When Jason says he needs someone to take over as pilot, Chu-Shkar does so grumpily.

He switches to using his own personal comlink as he heads out of the cockpit. He'd prefer to use the new armor if at all possible. There are certain symbols, such as a white flag to humans, that indicate peace and trust. Perhaps these creatures have the same, probably not a flag, but some sea shell or underwater plant.

"Sounds good, I'll be right out"

Jason will be sure to grab one of the SG4 blasters, his own blaster rifle, while powerful, will do very little underwater. So he'll need to rely on the secondary setting of this weapon if any kind of battle breaks out underwater.

With his equipment in order, he heads to the airlock, which should work just fine underwater as well, this is a mon calamari ship after all. So he places the rebreather into his mouth and allows the airlock to fill with water, squeezing his nose and popping his ears as the water pressure equalizes to that of the water 30 ft below the surface.

Once the outer door opens he swims out and heads towards Lyla. While he does prefer to fly somewhere, he has to admit the water is nice, and it's good to get out and stretch his legs and arms. That 7 hour flight was far too dull for his liking.

Once he get's close enough to spot Lyla's distinctive form in the water, he'll wave and speed up to join her. As he get's closer he notices that he didn't realize just how form fitting these wetsuits could be until he spots Lyla in hers. Despite the fact that he's wearing one himself. But that thought is pushed to the side and he studies the city before them, and waits for this 'prince of seals' to lead the way.

On board the ship Chu-Shkar is interrupted from his work to pilot the Alabak's Gold, the result being a scattered array of tools and electronic components on the co-pilot seat and adjoining control panel. The Wookiee's progress in whatever he was creating looked in its early stages. Flying the ship, if that term was still appropriate in the circumstances, was a mundane task. All Chu-Shkar had to do was keep operate the low-power tractor beam projector to prevent the ship being taken away with the ocean tides.

Still weak from the battle Bron opens his eyes to find himself staring at the blank white wall of the med-bay. In an an attempt to stand up he winced slightly in pain before regaining his composure. Tera seemed to have stepped out of the med-bay and he did not expect her to keep watch over him for a full cycle.

Using the surrounding beds and cabinets to steady himself, he finally made it to his feet and found the strength to stand on his own. Leaving the med-bay he looked towards his quarters and thought about settling back into another force trance, but he heard the commotion from the bridge.

Turning towards the bridge he made his way down the p-way slowly but surely. He had definitely learned his lesson, he was not an army unto himself. Reaching the bridge he saw the underwater city looming in-front of him, letting out a low whistle in appreciation of the cities beauty as he leaned against the frame and stood in the doorway.

Pek led them to the inn and showed them to a room. The inn was busy with many other Sedrians. The Sedrians were perfectly adapted to living on the watery planet. The Sedrians possessed both lungs and gills, able to spend unlimited time beneath or above the seas. Their heads and upper torso were similar to humans, their fingers on their hands were webbed. Their lower bodies consisted of flippers and a tapering fluke. Entirely covered in fur their moved gracefully underwater.

"I shall speak with my father and try to get you an audience as soon as possible" Pek placated Lyla. To Jason he shook his head "the fish killers have never attacked us before" he explained. He then left them. The room was simple and spacious. The walls were constructed of shell and rock, water plants in pots decorated the room. The other guests came and went freely, they seemed to be no reception or authority.

OOC Rynn, Jason and Lyla are all definitely at the inn. Everyone is welcome to go to, just post your choice to follow or not.

Swimming over the aquatic city, Lyla looked all around, at the dome- and shell-like buildings, at the Sedrians going about their day and reacting to the incident with Karak. She was closely observing Sedrian culture and society to learn what she could, out of curiosity and respect, as well as a keen appreciation of the potential dangers of dealing with an unfamiliar, alien society.

Seeing lots of Sedrians up close, Lyla could see the gills fluttering on their sides through the fur, and was impressed that they had both lungs and gills, which seemed a rare feature in aquatic species. They could breathe in both air and water. She had a theory the Sedrians' ancestors had evolved on land, before the seas had risen and they'd returned to the water, evolving fins, flukes, and gills, but they'd not yet lost those hands and lungs.

'Thank you.' she said to Pek, before he swam off and left them alone in this "inn". It seemed a place for all to stay, but there was no reception or innkeeper. Apparently it was a DIY hostel, not a business. Perhaps city authorities organised this for citizens or visitors, which seemed nice of them.

'Lyla to Alabak's Gold. Pek took us to wait in an inn before we meet the big boss. So far, everything looks okay. Over.' she updated the crew on the ship. Lyla let herself drift until she rested against a wall. 'What do you think?' she asked Rynn and Jason for their thoughts.
