Wandering around Fitsay

Back at the Inn many of the Sedrians are in the act of travelling toward the Great Shell Dome or returning from visiting it. Overlooking the Great Shell Dome is a tall stand of benches, these sacred pews are used by the Sedrians to mediate and contemplate the wonders of the Golden Sun. The Sedrians Lyla stops to speak with talk of the wonder of a life spent in the Light of the Golden Sun. Few know anything of Cardo, Karak or Fitsay, the Sedrians at the Inn appear to be pilgrims from across the planet that have come for a chance to see the Golden Sun. The priests of the Sun spreads the tenets of peace, reflection and community throughout the undersea villages and tend to the Great Shell Dome.

Wandering into the sprawling stalls and buildings nearby the Rebels see many exotic items for sale. Stalls sell shell-carvings, hand-made hunting weapons, sharkskin works, stones and gems, weaving, seafood delicacies, coral works, seaweeds and many other items. The people at the market know nothing of Mors Odrion or Rekara. There is much talk of Karak after the arrest earlier. When Lyla speaks with the people she learns that Karak was not arrested but only follower of his, no-one knows where Karak is. It is explained that Karak was once a bishop here and was a leader of the warrior monks that defend the Sedrian cities and villages. Karak abandoned Fitsay with a group of renegades. Most of the people look to their leader High Priest Cardo for guidance but the renegades believe power of the Golden Sun should be free for all.

Wandering around Fitsay

This Light of the Golden Sun all seemed rather pleasant and peaceful, but Lyla knew there was often a difference between the words and the reality. The image of life projected to pilgrims and outsiders was different to that lived day to day. Lyla nodded to pilgrims, thanking them and letting them swim on.

Moving on through the market, she made a show of examining all the goods on display, but couldn't buy anything, sure the Sedrians wouldn't, and couldn't, accept galactic credits. Instead, she bartered a few gleaming crystals from Isis for a weird shell carving, some sharkskin knotwork, and a piece of coral. That ought to oil the wheels of conversation, as she'd found on other worlds. It did, and Lyla listened intently to what she heard of Karak and Fitsay's troubles.

She was starting to get a good feeling for the situation here: everyone wanted to see the Golden Sun, but it was firmly in the flippers of Cardo and his priests, in Fitsay. Hence the pilgrims came here. Fitsay profited off them, and Cardo remained in charge. Karak seemed to think this Golden Sun should be shared around a bit more. Lyla couldn't blame him for that. These warrior-monks of his intrigued her, after Cardo's words of pacifism. Maybe they would help against the Imperials. After all, if the Imperials took the Golden Sun, then no Sedrian could have it.

Jason follows along as Lyla asks questions about town, but doesn't have much to add. He doesn't have any experience in getting information from people. There's plenty to see in the city of course, but it all seems strange. Even though the water is pleasant and he enjoys swimming. He wouldn't want to spend his life underwater. But then his body wasn't meant for such anyway.

"Are we certain the Golden Sun is a physical object? Sometimes when these people talk of it, it sounds more like a meta physical kind of thing than something real.."

'It can be both.' Lyla decided, 'Most religious artefacts are. I don't know. But the Empire wouldn't be sniffing around it it wasn't something physical. They're not here to learn the ways of Sedrian pacifism.'

"True enough.. Though it's possible they're mistaken as well.. But that doesn't seem likely.. I'm pretty curious to see what kind of base they have.. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.. I take it we won't be taking our ship?"

Ships tend to be far more easy to detect than a few people swimming towards a base. Though the ship also offers far more protection and firepower.

The Sedrians bargained and traded with Lyla, the trinkets and wares the Twi'lek gained were beautiful. When Lyla showed an interest in the warrior monks she was directed to the huts closest to the Great Shell Dome. The huts were two-storey chambers, arranged in neat lines.

'A floating shell, they call it. It could be a ship, it could be an offshore rig.' Lyla offered. 'And yeah, I think the Gold will be a bit noticeable. Unless you can fly her stealthily underwater? Anyway, Pek can't come on board to show us where to go, so it will be kind of redundant.' She pocketed her trinkets in the dive-suit's pouches, then swam on through Fitsay.

She thanked the Sedrian, then gazed wonderingly upon the warrior-monk barracks. She asked the others, 'Do we dare? We could ask to see those blasting sticks, see how well they'll stand up to Imperials. And how well the Sedrians will stand up.'

"I doubt it.. They probably have underwater sensors too.. Sounds like we should just swim.."

He follows Lyla's gaze to the warrior barracks and shrugs, or at least as much as possible underwater. Somehow even such a simple gesture as shrugging feels weird here.

"Up to you.. Though they might take offense.. Personally i think our best bet is to check out the imperial installation. We will never truly know if the Sedrians have a chance at defending themselves until we know what the empire has up it's sleeve.."

Bron looks towards the buildings, and back to his comrades before saying "We need to understand what the Sedarians are up against, but we also need to know what it is we are protecting here... Beyond their way of life.

Looking to Lyla he continues "I will follow your lead here Sargent. Both routes need investigating, and I do not believe this is the time to split up."

A closer inspection of the warrior monks huts shows them to be sparsely furnished and identical in design. Each provides living space for the monks. Few can be seen around the huts, perhaps only about six in total seem to be in attendance. There does seem to be regular movement of the monks to and from the dark shell nearby.

Lyla shrugged too, but since she could do it with her head-tails, she managed it rather better than Jason. 'Eh, let's check them out while we're here. It could be useful. And it'll be educational either way.' With the others in agreement, Lyla dived forward and paddled her flippers to propel herself toward the huts.

There didn't seem to be much to look at though, but then most monastic orders were ascetic. The dark shell seemed to be a hall or temple. Lyla swam up to the nearest warrior-monk, made a greeting gesture she'd seen other Sedrians performed, hoping it wasn't flipping the fish, as it were, and said 'Greetings! We are visitors to Fitsay. We are curious about your order. May we look around and watch your activities? We don't want to get in your way.' She squirted the translation off in Sedrian.

The warrior-monk greeted Lyla with a wave of her hand "you may enter" she agreed and lead her into the House of War. The interior of the dark shell was spartan and few Sedrians were inside "we keep things in order but until a successor is chosen we are just caretaking" the Sedrian explained. The warrior-monk was larger than the Sedrian pilgrims or those at the market. She wore protective shells over her upper body and held one of the staff-like alien energy weapons. "Is there anything you would like to see?" she asked. The other Sedrians Lyla saw were also armoured and armed, although some with only spear or hand weapons.

Lyla followed the warrior-monk into the shell, trying to swim in a way that seemed respectful. She looked around, but the austere interior didn't show her much of interest. So, not much of a tourist destination. She remembered Karak had been the leader of this order, hence why they needed a successor now, so she didn't ask about that. It didn't seem tactful. Instead, she went for the basics, to lead into more delicate matters. 'What sorts of martial arts do you practice? Some of us know how to fight, but we don't have much experience with underwater combat.' And hey, some tips would be useful.

Tera tugged at Brons sleeve, asking for a moment or two of his time. She whispered to him as they entered the building of the warrior monks "I sensed something...well, someone attempting to use the Force earlier...just as you sent me the warning. Was that you that did it? Why did you send us the warning? You realise...a warning like that...you're lucky I didn't pull my lightsaber immediately."

Smiling at Tera, Bron responds quietly saying "Yes, that was me. I trusted you to handle yourself with more decorum than igniting your lightsaber. There is something going on around here and I am not sure that I fully trust the Sendarans. I simply wished you to be on your guard."

Looking around and keeping a casual air about him he investigates the surroundings as he walks with Tera.

Jason looks around curiously as they enter the barracks, but unfortunately there isn't much to see. When Lyla asks about their martial arts, he does find himself wondering how these people fight, and a thought occurs to him.

"Would it be possible to watch one of your training or sparring matches? It might prove quite interesting.."

"We practise for the defence of Fitsay and Golden Sun" the monk led the Rebels through the halls of the House of War. Here glowing crystals lit the chambers as the night grew darker and other devices and objected glowed with power in the dim light, something which had been absent in the market place. Weapons lined the walls which the monk pointed out "spears, knives, guns" the weapons were simple, crafted from shell, stone and natural resources, the guns were simple spear throwers of a mechanical nature not explosive or energy powered "all that the ocean provides" there were also spines, quills and bladders that were coated or filled with poisons "and what the Sun provides" the monk was more reverent when she mentioned the sun gun she held "we will not kill, we use what the Sun provides only to stun those that attack. We are a peaceful people but must always defend ourselves".

In one hall they were able to watch as two Sedrians as they grappled and fought in hand to hand combat. The battle for fought in a swirling cloud of sand as the Sedrians dived and spun, there tails driving their powerful bodies through the water with great force and flicking silt into clouds around them.

Lyla looked around appreciatively, not knowing enough about martial matters to know if she should be impressed or not. But most of this stuff would do squat against Stormtroopers in their armour. They didn't have blasters or frag grenades. Only these sun-staff weapons seemed halfway effective, if their weird stunning effect would work against Stormtrooper armour. 'Of course. That's good.' Lyla agreed. She asked to see the sun stun gun and asked some basic questions about its operation.

The demonstration of Sedrian unarmed wrestling didn't exactly give Lyla any pointers on underwater combat, as, for a start, she didn't have flippers or a tail. She applauded and nodded, and later asked their guide 'Have you prepared to face the fish-killers?'

Jason studies the two battling Sedrians for a while, they seem to know what they are doing. But somehow he doubts it will be anything capable of challenging the empire. Some fancy underwater fighting techniques won't stand up against blasters or turbolasers.

"Have your people ever journeyed into the stars?"

Oh, for fracking out loud.... The situation here in Fitsay was basically perfect for the Imperials to roll right in and take over and take what they wanted, without a shot fired or a harpoon chucked. Lyla didn't want to push the Sedrians into war, it was the last thing she wanted, but she hoped they could at least be prepared. 'Oh. But some of you have thought about it, right? So you can be ready when you have a new boss? How long does that usually take anyway?'

Dark path? Lyla wondered. Don't let Bron and Quantros hear that, they'd jump at it. Lyla wished cynically. Of course a theocracy would see opposition to its authority as some kind of wickedness; the word itself was meaningless. Fortunately, the two Jedi were keeping mum for now. But at least these warrior-monks would eventually do something if pressed by the Empire, though Lyla was afraid it would be too little, too late.

She watched the demonstrations for a bit, then changed the topic. 'May we see those sun staffs? I don't think we've seen anything like those before... That is, if they're not sacred.'

Around the halls were many strange items, filters that circulated water, lanterns on sconces with glowed brightly, automated doors and other conveniences. Where it could be seen all were powered by crystals. The same was true of the staff the warrior-monk held. At Lyla's enquiry the Sedrian handed the staff to the Twi'lek "it is not harmful" she promised "the power of the Golden Sun is imbued within it. Only the priests know how to harness it" she explained. The staff itself was simply a long tube with a trigger, inside the tube was a crystal. Lyla had seen some Sedrians who wandered freely through the Audience Hall and House of War who worn a golden pin engraved with a spiral coral pattern over their left breast, perhaps they were the priests who attended this sophisticated yet unknown technology.

Lyla gazed wonderingly at the crystal; the science of it was mostly beyond her, but she figured it was some kind of piezoelectric effect, pressure on crystals producing energy. Well, no wonder the priests were in charge, if they controlled this technology, the only kind that would work easily under the waves. Handing the staff, back, she thanked their host graciously then made to depart.
