The Renegade's Lair
'It's a shame we couldn't get out of that base fast enough. We might have followed Karak directly. Ah well.' Lyla had said ruefully, but she wasn't one to dwell on past errors and missteps – Goddess knew they had enough of those. Someone who had to retrace her steps was someone who was lost. 'Jason, you take the wheel.'
She waved Quantros to go ahead and try, still half-expecting nothing to actually happen, half-humouring him and half-hoping he had something. Strange stuff had happened, she didn't deny that. Tera and Oglo had believed in this guff. Oglo had claimed to see at a distance too, and hey, one of them had to have seen her notorious nudie-run on Tatooine somehow. If this was true, there would be no more naked hiking or scouting expeditions for her, more's the pity. How was a girl to get privacy?
While Quantros looked with his third eye, Lyla looked with her two good ones, donning diving goggles and dangling her head and tails off the side of the speeder-raft and in the water. Of course, there were no prints to follow, no broken branches, no litter or spoor sitting still some place. Tracking underwater was much harder needed a whole different set of signs: indentations in the loose sand where a Sedrian body might have settled, various kinds of sea creatures scared off by their passage. That's what she estimated, anyway. She figured Bishop Karak had come and gone with an escort, which upped the chances she might see a clue.
