The Renegade's Lair

Launching the speeder-raft Jason took Quantros and Lyla to track down Karak and his renegades. The repulsor-driven water vehicle bobbed on the surface of the green ocean whilst Jason awaited directions.

The Renegade's Lair

Quantros sat crosslegged on the waveskimmer, and looked back at Lyla and Jason. "It's been some time since I last tried this. It may require some time for me to attempt. I'll need no disturbance." Straightening himself out, he began to focus intensely, sensing his surroundings through the Force. He allowed the relaxing noises of the ocean to put him in a tracelike state, before he began sensing people through the Force. He didn't know if Karak was force sensitive, but he was of the Dark Side. Quantros attempted to find a strong source of the dark side through his connection.

'It's a shame we couldn't get out of that base fast enough. We might have followed Karak directly. Ah well.' Lyla had said ruefully, but she wasn't one to dwell on past errors and missteps – Goddess knew they had enough of those. Someone who had to retrace her steps was someone who was lost. 'Jason, you take the wheel.'

She waved Quantros to go ahead and try, still half-expecting nothing to actually happen, half-humouring him and half-hoping he had something. Strange stuff had happened, she didn't deny that. Tera and Oglo had believed in this guff. Oglo had claimed to see at a distance too, and hey, one of them had to have seen her notorious nudie-run on Tatooine somehow. If this was true, there would be no more naked hiking or scouting expeditions for her, more's the pity. How was a girl to get privacy?

While Quantros looked with his third eye, Lyla looked with her two good ones, donning diving goggles and dangling her head and tails off the side of the speeder-raft and in the water. Of course, there were no prints to follow, no broken branches, no litter or spoor sitting still some place. Tracking underwater was much harder needed a whole different set of signs: indentations in the loose sand where a Sedrian body might have settled, various kinds of sea creatures scared off by their passage. That's what she estimated, anyway. She figured Bishop Karak had come and gone with an escort, which upped the chances she might see a clue.

OOC: A long shot, but: Perception 26, Survival (track) 23
13:57, Today: Lyla Rahn rolled 26 using 1d20+8. perception.
13:58, Today: Lyla Rahn rolled 23 using 1d20+8. survival - track.

"Alright, just tell me which way you want to go"

Jason says as he turns the vehicle slow in the water, trying to give at least Lyla the best chance she can to spot something. Quantros seems to have his eyes closed so there's very little to do to aid him.

The Renegade's Lair

Focusing his mind Quantros entered a meditative state. His mind extended out from his body, his mind buzzed as he sensed the abundance of life that coursed through the green ocean. First Quantros sensed those Force-users know by him. He sensed Bron and Tera to the northeast and moving swiftly away. Then as he searched outward for any sign of a disturbance in the Force he found none. There was no well of darkness or sinkhole of the darkside that Quantros could sense, Quantros knew however that even if there was some site of darkside power on Sedri he would have to be particularly close to it to sense its presence.

OOC You can't take 20 on a Use the Force check, you can take 10 however which will satisfy the DC15 for Sense Force. As a worthy note areas of darkside influence (if one exists) can only be detected within 1km.

With her head underwater half the time, Lyla could only wave her arms or tails in the air to point Jason where to go. When they didn't go that way, she realised he couldn't watch and steer at the same time, and pulled her gasping head out of the water to give him directions. 'Head, um, starboard? Never mind, just go left, thataway.'

"That way it is"

Jason says as he guides the ship towards the direction Lyla is pointing, wondering if she found something or is merely guessing.

Quantros continued concentrating, knowing they were moving. He might not sense anything now, but that didn't mean that he wouldn't ever sense anything. If they got within a kilometer of a strong source of the Dark Side, he'd know.

The Renegade's Lair

The ocean stretched out, green seas reached out to the horizon like the giant flat mesas of Ryloth. Lyla could detect nothing to show them the way. Knowing the only way to navigate the planet was from the terrain beneath the surface of the water Lyla looked downward with her head submerged. In the water Lyla saw the map of the seabed. Underwater valleys and mountains existed. None however showed the Twi'lek any indication of sentient inhabitants, fish both large and small flitted passed as Jason cruised across the sea. Quantros felt no disturbances in the Force or any indication of dark side.

They saw no sign that anything had followed them from the Imperial base and they saw no sign of the AT-AT swimmer.

The Renegade's Lair

Quantros decided to try sensing Force users through the Force. But that didn't work. All he could sense was Pek, Tera, and Bron. There was a distinct lack of Force users. Quantros snapped out of his trance. "How odd."

"So.. if this plan is a bust.. How about a different one? We could do a fly by.. or I guess a swim by of that base, make sure they really lost all power, and if they have.. Maybe we should take some shots at those cannons, take them out while they're without power.."

His plan is rather aggressive and militaristic but it seems like a good one to him, and he is after all a fighter pilot.

Quantros squinted, as if trying to figure something out. "Something's wrong..." He continued musing, the gears in his head turning as he considered all the information he had. "By any chance, is Pek a priest? Or does he have any priestly connections?"

The Renegade's Lair

At last Lyla pulled her head out of the water, gasping and spluttering for breath. 'Well, that was even worse than I expected.' she complained. Tracking underwater so long after the fact had been optimistic, but that had felt utterly futile. She'd seen so many fish, which would have been worthwhile if this had been a wilderness survey mission. Stupid boring fish.

Sitting back, popping her ears open, she ran her hands up and down her lekku, trying to wring the seawater off the organs, which glistened golden in the sun. 'That's an idea.' Lyla agreed with Jason, for once thinking the same way. 'We'd have to return to the Gold though... We should've done that when we escaped. Eh, woulda coulda shoulda.' she shrugged. 'Maybe we should circle east a bit, see if we can pick up a sign there.'

Shaking a head-tail over the side, she looked over at Quantros. 'Yeah, he's the high priest's son. This place is basically a theocracy, so I wouldn't be surprised if Pek was a priest himself.'

"That settles it. Let me try again." Quantros faced forward, looking determined. "I can sense Bron, Tera, and Pek moving towards Fitsay. But I felt another presence while we were on board the Imperial base. Now I can't sense that presence. What's more, I think the priests of this world have a connection to the Force. If true, then I should be able to sense our renegade's presence through the Force...unless he's using a technique to mask his presence. I need only concentrate harder in order to uncover him." Quantros be stretched out with his feelings, trying to scrutinize the Force of any signs of the renegade's presence.

OOC: 10:21, Today: Quantros Starbound rolled 22 using 1d20+8.  Use the Force.

They took the speeder-raft and began a wide circle of the Imperial base. Focused on detecting the presence he had felt at the Imperial base Quantros was able to locate it again. The unknown Force user was still at the base.
