Strike Force: Shantipole
Lyla had a couple of comebacks for Glek, but settled on 'They must've gotten pretty good at tracking, to get here ahead of us.' She did not want any resentful officers trying to lay the blame for the fall of Shantipole on her crew, so she wanted to make sure to cover their collective tails while she could.
She gazed up at the flickering holo-image, seeing Mon Mothma herself. 'Huh.' she breathed. 'I always thought she'd be... a moth.'
When the room cleared out, and even Glek begrudgingly sloped off, Lyla took a quick look around for straggling technicians or droids. She hoped this wouldn't take long. She remembered Glek screaming in her face, and couldn't wait to wash off the stench of seafood breath.
Then she heard the message. Oh, goddess. This was major. The fleet was being mustered, surely in readiness for a large-scale battle. And they had to get its admiral and fancy new ships into the field. This was crucial to the survival of the Rebel Alliance. And it was all on her tails. She swallowed, trying to find the still point inside herself and the sense she could endure, work through, and overcome any challenge. 'Alright, you heard the Moth lady, but this is even more urgent now a frigate's already here. We're bugging out. Chu-Shkar, you protect those coordinates and compute a safe course.' She ejected the holo-disk and passed it to the Wookiee. 'Klyn, you'll probably want to oversee repairs. Liaise with the Verpine and Ackbar's people. Nothing matters except getting the Gold good to go, to fly fast and hit hard.'
'Tera, you know the Imperials and have good insight.' She meant the Force, but wasn't going to say it. 'I think you and I should screen the staff for this informant. I think I know who to start with...'
'Commander Ackbar, are these B-wings ready to fly? I know you have your own pilots, but I'd like ours to practice on them in case we need back-ups.'
'Otherwise, we need to start loading all personnel and valuable and sensitive equipment into our ship. Do you have a transport of your own here?'
'We need to take or destroy everything that might contain valuable data, so the Imperials don't get their hands on it. Can we blow up the base? Preferably with Imperials inside?'
She turned to face Ackbar directly, aware she took orders from him now and he was still in charge here. 'Are these preparations good for you, Commander?'
