Strike Force: Shantipole

The room next door to the rec area was living quarters. Most of the area was open barracks, set up for communal living. Several smaller room were set up against the back wall.

Plenty of noise and activity could heard from the other side of the closed blast doors.

OOC Chu-Shkar's coutdown 14 of 15.

[Language unknown: "Maelhi ateherwer."] Chu-Shkar mutters repeatedly, unknowingly repeating something said at the battle of Yavin. His vox box actually correctly translating it although it still was louder on the first word. "Almost there."

'Glad to hear it, Chu.' Lyla said breathlessly, hurrying back into the Command Centre to check on the wookiee. 'Keep up the good work.'

Having confirmed the barracks area was empty (at least after shooing out potential stragglers), she tried to shut the adjoining blast door, to prevent the Imperials getting access any time fast. She fiddled with the controls; she'd seen the others do this enough now, she figured she could work it out.

'If you can blow this joint, Klyn, you have my express permission.'

OOC: Shut the blast door at 2–4:

With a beep from the computer Chu-Shkar gives a delighted hoot, which is translated as a loud screeching wail from his vox box. For those that have never seen a wookie grin it usually frightens them, since the wookie mouth isn't designed to smile like the more traditional humanoid faces. It comes out looking like a snarl, but the eyes aren't scrunched up in a hostile manner.

Pulling the connection from the computer he said, [Language unknown: "In tealinec. In nimo niliic."] The vox box belts out, "I'M finished. We can tree branch!" Picking up his bowcaster, he tucked his computer into his satchel, and handed one of the computer disks to Lyla. then clicking off his Vox box temporarily, he whispers to her,  before clicking it back on.

'You heard the wookiee – let's make like a tree and branch!' Lyla agreed, hurriedly dispensing last orders. 'Close all these blast doors, check for stragglers, and bug out!'

She took the disk from Chu, slipping it into a pocket, then stared blankly as he spoke to her.

Hurrying away from the hangar and invading stormtroopers the Rebels returned to the Command Centre. Lyla punched some buttons on the blast door, it closed but did not lock. As Ackbar and Chu-Shkar finished retrieving the files Lyla explored the back room. The room she entered was hollowed out of the asteroid rock, the floor was made of thick bases of reinforced permacite. Dozens of pipes lead out of the a massive atmosphere generator which dominates the room. Three airlocks lead to the surface of the asteroid.

In the Command Centre Klyn assesses a map of the Rebel facility.
    1. Atmosphere Generators.
    2. Command Centre.
    3. Communications Centre.
    4. Living Quarters.
    5. Hangar Bay.
    6. Rec Area.
    7. Main Power Generators.
    8. Auxiliary Power.
    9. Storage.
    10. Repulsor Beam Generators.
    11. Medical Centre.
    12. Life Boat Bay.
    13. Auxiliary Command Centre.

Klyn's knowledge allows him to deduce that sabotage of the Main Power Generators would destroy the base or sabotage of the Repulsor Beam Generators would result in asteroids smashing and pulverising the bases into pieces.

OOC See map above for reference to locations.

'Atmosphere generators.' Lyla reported, returning from the back room. She'd tried switching them off an an added impediment to the Imperial occupation; the base had enough air for a little while, and they didn't intend to stay there that long.

She had another go at actually locking the blast door to the Command Centre, with less success, and asked Klyn 'So, what's the plan for blowing this joint? Tell me don't have to be in here when it happens.'

OOC: Use Computer 13, not any better than last time.

"What's that?" he asked Chu. "Getting homesick?"
But before he could go further on that road, Lyla was back and it was time to explain his plan.

"Well, I could turn that very fine, but completely lost, base into quite a deadly trap for any imperial still on board.

I think we can safely assume we are the last one leaving so if we close each door behind us, we won't trap any innocent and it will give me the time I need to disable the repulsors protecting this big asteroid from the others around it."

he explained while giving a hand in closing the door.

"I will go straight there while you close the few doors between here and the intersection SW from here. I will meet you there as soon as I'm done.

If you are confident enough in that area, I wouldn't mind Chu's help, by the way."

'You had me at "deadly trap".' Lyla answered with a grin, ready to take whatever clever idea was on offer. 'Okay, I'll go clear Main Power rooms – do you want me to switch off power? – and close those damn blast doors... Uh, how do I actually close them anyway?'

"Don't waste time on the generator, If you shut them down, they won't be able to access Chu's 'surprise' and they will be worried about something so mine won't work either." said Klyn as he left the group.

"Just gain some time by closing the blast doors to allow more of them to get inside to increase the numbers of losses on their side and, of course, to allow me to get the job done."

Turning the vox box back on in frustration, Chu-Shkar said, [Language unknown: "Strongwe oul wisi pr ur ure ekstac ekev hatresour E taeve Es ni Iv ceisit ovesi pa.] The phrase coming out "REMEMBER, that word so you can decry the files I gave Lyla if I don't make it."

Then he turned to the map and studied it before saying in a flurry of roars and vox box speech. "Sir it might be a good idea for someone or possibly everyone to head to here," Pointing towards the Auxiliary Power Generators, "And use space suits to walk along the surface of the asteroid to here." Indicating the main hanger bay. "That gives us the ability to retrieve the Gold. Lifeboats won't do us much good if the Empire has ship out there. But with the Gold we can escape."

In the interest of my sanity unless I am saying something specifically important for translation I'm going to type in Vox box setting for communications going forth. The second part of this post was impossible for me to do in the way I was previously.

'Alright.' Lyla agreed to Klyn. She had another go at locking the blast door linking the Living Quarters and the Communications Centre, wishing she'd studied all this technical stuff instead of interpretative dance, and that she could just smash the panel with the butt of her rifle instead. She was having more luck now, trying to tell it there was a atmosphere breach and it should lock to prevent catastrophic damage.

She was surprised by Chu-Shkar's suggestion, then realised 'Cruk, you weren't there – the Gold was stolen, it's gone from the Main Hangar. We only have Ackbar's ships now.' The loss of the Alabak's Gold still hurt, she just hadn't had time for it to sink in. She'd lost a lot of gear and mementos too.

With some assistance from Klyn the blast door between the command centre and living quarters are sealed. The stormtrooper would break through the blast door at the hangar soon and be on their tails. Klyn headed toward the repulsor beam generator. Klyn estimated that once he shut down the beams that shielded the base it would be destroyed in about ninety seconds. Everyone else just had to get those life boats ready.

Chu-Shkar was surprised at the loss of the Gold, but that would have to wait, as there were more important things to do at the moment. "Regardless, we won't survive long in lifeboats if there are more ships out there. And I don't see the Empire sending just a single Transport to take a base. We need another option."

"Just a quick information." he began.
"Once I am done with this, we will only have around 90 seconds to get the hell out of here before this station change it's function from nice base to pack of asteroids.

So just tell me we you are all ready to leave so that I can push the last button and run back to you as fast as possible."

Their plan to escape in the lifeboats was simple and the majority of the Rebels ran to make their escape. Most Verpine and technical staff were gone, although they saw a few rushing head in the directions. Lyla set to obstruct the Imperials at every opportunity, closing blast doors and trying to set locks on them, without the security codes her attempts were ineffectual.

Klyn reached the Repulsor Beam Generators, three tall, silver cylinders, interconnected by a maze of pencil-thin filaments. A computer control panel would grant the engineer access and a chance to destroy the asteroid.

The rest of the Rebels led by Lyla ran through the Medical Centre. The room consisted of eight beds, one bacta-tank and a curtained off corner.

A shiver ran through the ubese's spine at the thought of navigating a lifeboat through a swarm of tie fighters but he said nothing.

"Should we be checking for other survivors?"

Rynn asked as he moved with the main group toward the lifeboats.

"Or are we assuming that everyone who needs to leave has left?"

'Now you tell me.' Lyla muttered sourly as she realised her attempts to lock the blast doors were not only pointless, but ineffectual. Some instructions sure would be nice. 'Hey, Ackbar! Transmit me the security codes!' she demanded irritably of the admiral, forgetting respect for the brass in favour of actually getting the job done. After all, he'd forgotten to be helpful earlier.

If that failed, she could always settle for bashing the control panel off with the butt of her rifle; what she couldn't lock, she would make inconvenient.

'Yes, check all rooms, leave no one behind.' Lyla ordered Rynn, from where she was still arguing with a blast door.

OOC: Can we please have some rules on closing these blast doors to save time and frustration? Action, skill, DC? And Ackbar ought to know the codes and to have given them to us.
