Meeting at the cross roads

Approaching from the Command Centre Lyla and Klyn readied themselves for a two pronged attack against the stormtroopers.

From the airlock came Chu-Shkar who spotted the cross roads and saw the six stormtroopers. Behind the Wookiee waited Rynn and Tera.

Meeting at the cross roads

Keenly aware they wouldn't keep the advantage for long, Lyla snuck out as soon as she got the go-ahead from the other team. She couldn't wait for Quantros's distraction, not knowing if he'd even found one, let alone being able to communicate with him. 'Attack on my mark.' she whispered over the comlink, wanting the ambush to have the element of surprise. They needed to take down as many Stormtroopers as possible, as soon as possible.

She swiftly aimed her blaster rifle at the lead Stormtrooper, readying her shot, counting down. 'Three, two, one. Mark.' She fired.

OOC: I'm assuming point-blank range, as I'm only the one effective outside that. :) Plus the corridors and fairly turny close to the crossroads, so we have ambush points.

Meeting at the cross roads

In concert the two groups attacked the stormtroopers. Blasterfire crisscrossed the tunnels, crackling sound of energy bolts mingled with the yells of surprise and thuds of the Imperials bodies. All six stormtroopers were defeated before the realised they had been attacked. The crossroads was theirs.

Lowering her smoking blaster rifle, surprised at their own success, Lyla grinned back at Tera. 'Glad you finally got to the party. Now, we gotta take it to the Command Centre. There're twelve Imps stripping the joint we need to stop.'

Briefly, she thought over their plans and the map. 'You pull these bodies out of sight, I'll scout the next intersection. Maybe we can circle around and take them down in cross-fire again.'

OOC: Stealth 27. Lyla will scout the next intersection, between 3, 7, and 8.

Should we expect the enemy to hear the blaster fire and be alerted, or are the tunnels too long?

A fast resolution and then Lyla quickly scouted to the next intersection. The winding and twisting Verpine tunnels were a tactical nightmare for the Imperials. With the recent alarm and now with com checks failing the Imperial had to increase security and Lyla stopped before she walked into another six stormtrooper who were guarding the intersection.

OOC So far you have been relatively quick and the Imperials have been investigating the airlock you didn't enter through. Don't worry things won't stay this easy.

Looking them over, Lyla thought the team were still in good spirits, despite the dismal assessments of exactly how screwed they were. 'We're balancing on the edge of disaster, but we're good at that now.' she gave her verdict.

Despite that, she was reluctant to assault the next group of Stormtroopers so close to the control rooms; there was too much risk of something going badly wrong and raising an alert, though it seemed inevitable at this point. A distraction would be good, which reminded her: 'Tera, are you still in contact with Quantros? What's his status? What's he doing?'

'Twenty-five?!' Lyla exclaimed, wondering how the frack they were going to take the hangar now. Having Chu take control of the base systems seemed their best chance of gaining an advantage, so the plan seemed to be, once again, deal with it later. 'Alright, let's go.'

Raising her rifle and taking point, Lyla led her team down the tunnel, indicating with crisp hand movements when to halt, when to move, and when to hide. Gesturing for the team to press themselves against the tunnel wall, Lyla crept around the lip of the bend, peering ahead for the Stormtroopers. She moved like a ghost, silent and melding fluidly into the shadow.

Spying the pack of Stormtroopers, Lyla took aim at the furthest from her, guessing that an attack seeming to come from that side would have them look that, giving her team that crucial moment to get into position.

Seeing Chu-Shkar struggling with the technician – a Wookiee, losing a wrestling match with a human? – Lyla automatically aimed and shot the man while he was still being held. 'Don't play with him. Now, can you do anything with that?' She gestured to the computer, while she rushed to the nearest exit on the left. Chu-Shkar set up his computer to access the base's systems. However it was obvious that he was not moving as quickly as he usually did. As he finished he said "TERA, I may need your help. CAN you patch me up while I slice?"

Lyla quickly got her bearings, realising this was definitely the computer room and not another part of the adjoining command centre. 'Okay, we missed a turn in the tunnels, but we're good. Guard the entrances, shoot anything that moves. Rynn, circle back to where we faced the Stormtroopers, we can cut them down in cross-fire.' she told the others. Chu-Shkar was working on the computer and Tera was working on Chu-Shkar, so she could let them continue. Lyla ran to the passage leading to the command centre, waiting a moment while Rynn and Klyn got into position.

Ready to prevent any interruptions Lyla and Rynn ran off to stop any Imperials. Tera ministered to Klyn's wounds. It only took a moment for Rynn and Lyla to realise the game was up and Imperials knew of their presence as Imperial technicians met them in the tunnels.

'I'd stand in front if you weren't so big, Chu!' Lyla yelled back. Forced into a retreat but making the Imps pay for it with every step, Lyla wondered at their cursed luck, that they should take a wrong turning and into yet another last stand. Every exit was blocked by seemingly endless Imperials, shooting down her friends. All she could do was fight, fight and make them suffer. 'Autofire if you've got it!'

Speaking of which... Considering the frag grenades she'd been saving for a special occasion, she decided there was no time like the present. Snatching one from her belt, she primed it and, with a long-range overarm throw, hurled it into the tunnel disgorging Stormtroopers, behind their ranks. There was no escaping the echoing blast.

Aggressively Rynn rushed the Imperial technicians as they threatened to swarm over the Rebels. For a moment Rynn had them held at the tunnel mouth then they overwhelmed him as blaster bolts crisscrossed to hit him, the body he held up to protect himself not offering enough cover for the number of enemies. The line of technicians looked endless and Rynn only saw more coming.

On the other side of the computer room things were different. Lyla's grenade resonated through out the room and the stormtroopers were blown away. A last reinforcement arrived to confront Tera. Tera could see no more coming. At the south Lyla held off the technician as they entered the room, but Lyla saw no more coming.

The last of the technicians saw Chu-Shkar and shot at the Wookiee as he worked at the computer. Chu-Shkar had totally control of the base and could set the defence status of the alarms and all the blast doors. As the base was built by pacifists it had no offence capabilities.

Meeting at the cross roads

Unleashing the power of the Force Tera sent the Imperial technicians flying across the cave chamber to crash into the rough walls. At the same time Chu-Shkar flew into a rage and roaring crashed into the line of technicians threatening to overrun the Rebels. Rynn recovering from the earlier attack called on all the reserved of will power and energy he possessed and staggering blasted a technician away. Elsewhere Lyla and Klyn cleared the south exit from the room.

The remaining technicians and the lone stormtrooper, now outnumbered by the Rebels failed to gain any success, their attacks fruitless.

OOC No hits on the Rebels this turn. Three more technicians are approaching from the west tunnel, the south tunnel is empty and no more Stormtrooper are coming from the east tunnel.

Actions.

There is no cover.

Meeting at the cross roads

After mowing down the technicians, and stunned by her own success, Lyla spun around to take in the situation. They might actually win this thing. Tera and Klyn had the last Stormtrooper caught at the mouth; Rynn and Chu-Shkar were outnumbered by technicians, but she was sure the raging Wookiee counted for three, so maybe not. Regardless, they didn't have time to muck around.

Dashing across the cave, she switched the rifle back to single-shot mode, before she hit the wall and sighted between it and Rynn at one of the technicians. Nothing personal, but it was time for him to die.

After the last of the Imperials fell, Lyla looked around, stunned by their own survival. She breathed a sigh of relief. 'Well. That's snatching victory from the jaws of doom. Well done everyone.' She quickly took stock; half the team were badly injured, especially Chu-Shkar and Rynn. But somehow, Lyla herself had come through her a three-sided firefight without a scratch, for once. Nevertheless, they couldn't do this again.

'Finish up on the computers A.S.A.P. then we some go place less exposed. This base is on the alert now, so we should go together.'

Lyla hurried back to the passage to the Commander Center, before slowly advancing around the corner. If any Imperials remained in there, she wanted to finish them first.

The Imperials had been in the process of dismantling it, cables dangled from walls and lay across the floor.

Then she was glad to hear Chu-Shkar reply that he was done with the computers altogether. She quickly returned to the passage to the computer room to survey the others. 'Great! If we get lucky, I'd like to grab the prototypes on the way out – the Rebellion could use it to accelerate production of the B-wing. More to the point, it's an extra fighter we could use to escape.' she proposed, but wasn't sure how much of a chance it would be. 'We've got two fighter pilots, if we can find Quantros.'

'Anyway, follow me to the Main Generators, so we can blow this joint.' she declared, beckoning them to follow. She'd be glad to see the back of these damn asteroids.

Chu-Shkar was able to use the datapad to access the Imperial records and it reported that many Verpines had fled into the many tunnels that filled the asteroid. Imperial stormtroopers were rounding them up and any captured were being held in the storage area near the main hangar.

Meeting at the cross roads

Lyla shot an angry look at Rynn; it was hard to tell what he was feeling with his face covered like that. 'We're not leaving anyone behind, or killing any civilians with our bomb.' she declared firmly.

Klyn had the solution, fortunately. 'Yeah, that's right. If we rescue the captives, we can alert the rest, get them to come. But can we do it all in thirty minutes? I don't want us to have go back and forth for this bomb.'

Chu-Shkar just shrugged. "I CAn erase the computer now, start a general purge, or set up a databomb that will do it in twenty minutes. BUT once it starts either way, all computer access will shut down. DESTROying the station isn't strictly necessary."

Tera shook her head "Can you guarantee there are no hard copies of the starfighter plans? How about isolated work environments? Even just knowing some of the tooling used might give the empire clues. I think we need to destroy the base, but I don't think it would be wise to light the timers yet. I mean...what happens if we get caught? One firefight and a hiccup to our timing and we're not leaving the station." Tera shrugged "right? Can we rig the explosives for remote detonation?"

"Can't do, no" said Klyn.
"We had to make those with what we had there and they don't have much in term of weapons, so it was not possible to create a remote system.
But I agree we must destroy the base.

We can still come back once we have freed the prisoners and so they will have 30 minutes to get to the hangar, but the longer we take, the higher the chances they are discovered. And us going back and forth could be troublesome.

I thought of asking the prisoners to tell those still around to activate the timer as they get to the hangar, but I highly doubt they would activate it as they are very much against weapons and violence.

'I also want to blow this base,' Lyla agreed, 'To deny it to the Imperials, destroy evidence of Rebel activity and ship plans, cause a distraction on our escape, and because those were our orders. The explosion will be the fleet's signal to move. But mostly I want to do it out of spite, coz I'm done with this joint.'

She took in the others' recommendations and made a decision. 'Okay, let's hold off on starting the clock and deal with these prisoners first.'

She checked the map, finding the storage room used for detention of the Verpine. 'Alright, we've got to go through this maintenance shop to get to the holding area. From there, we can hit the hangar bay where our ships are. If we take it, we can send a runner back to trigger the bomb while we get the ships moving. As for the rest, we don't know what kind of opposition we'll find between here and there, so we'll play it by tail.'

'Are we all good?'

A variety of tools, diagnostic computers and vehicle parts were placed through out the room. Seven Verpines stood awkwardly in the workshop, huddled together, all looked in good health and free from any binders, no stormtroopers or Imperials were in sight.

The seven Verpine chittered excitedly at Tera, one stepped forward slightly to introduce itself. The others stood inactive, all of them held crates of equipment and tools "you are friendly rebel hive?" it questioned "another of your hive is in tunnel" the Verpine pointed toward the hangar.

In reply to Tera's questions it nodded and waved its antenna wildly "there are many tunnels, others are hiding from the Empire hive. We had to flee or hide. We were captured but rescued by friendly rebel hive".

"Two of B-wings are complete and in working order, they are in the hangar" the Verpine chittered excitedly.

"The hive is aware we must evacuate" the Verpine responded flatly to Tera.

Along the corridor Lyla crept closer to the hangar. As the Twi'lek reached the opening she saw the familiar form of Quantros. The dark robed human was knelt by the opening observing the Imperials.

Lyla saw passed Quantros, an immense hangar bustling with activity. A metal catwalk formed an awning some ten metres above the floor. Three other tunnels exited the bay. A hangar control tower jutted out from the stone wall. Two officers stood inside, directing the activity below. Across the bay, on the catwalk, three stormtroopers stood by a tripod mounted repeating blaster. Near them, four TIE fighters hung suspended from a temporary TIE docking rack. Twenty stormtroopers moved about the hangar's floor. A squid-faced Quarren directed four technicians as they loaded boxes onto an oversized Imperial shuttle. The Alabak's Gold was parked on the far side of the bay.

At the computer room Chu-Shkar and Rynn explored the computer systems. This was a research base and much of the computer held information files. Active control systems were available for the repulsor beam controls, shield controls and blast door controls.

Quantros! Lyla tried waving and hissing under her voice 'Quantros!' to get his attention but not the attention of anyone else here. If she did manage to signal to him, she'd gesture him to stay put and not risk leaving his hiding spot.

Surveying the hangar, she grimaced to see the excessive defences that would be aimed against them. She especially didn't like that repeating blaster tripod. She might snipe one Imperial before their alert went up, so she'd have to make it count.

Then she saw the Quarren. Was that Glek? Bastard!

She had no time to look further though, as Chu-Shkar's incoming message buzzed her. Thankfully, Lyla was smart enough to set her spacesuit comlink to silent. She retreated back around the corner so she could answer him. 'We've contacted the Verpine, will confirm their evac route... Are you able to open the hangar to space? We need a clean-out.'

Returning to Tera and the Verpine, Lyla asked 'Where are the rest of your people, and how soon can they be here? Can you show me on this map?'

Meeting at the cross roads

Lyla considered Klyn's plan, and liked it. Well, she didn't hate it, but it was looking like something that could be almost effective, so she might as well love it. 'Alright, that could work. But two people, and they'll have to risk a few shots, to really sell it as a failed attack to lure the Stormies away.'

'So, volunteers? I'd do it, but I might be more effective getting to a sniper's nest ASAP.'

"Well, there aren't that many possibilities

You are indeed the best chance at ranged intervention, so that leaves only Tera and I, since the other two are busy at the control room. Unless Quantros wants to try his luck?"

'A light-sabre would really get their attention.' Lyla agreed.

'But first, Klyn, run back and trigger that bomb now. We're about ready to go and can't waste any more time.'

Meeting at the cross roads

The Rebels had a plan. Chu-Shkar and Rynn would wait for the signal. Then if the Imperials fell for the ruse they would lock any pursuers in the Atmosphere Generators and with the bombs set race for the hangar in time for Klyn to fly out with the Alabak's Gold.

OOC The plan seems set. The way I've read it. Quantros and Tera will create the distraction. Chu-Shkar and Rynn will orchestra the doors and the bomb. Whilst Klyn, Lyla and the Verpines make a dash into the hangar to create chaos and steal ships.

Let me know if that's good or whether it needs altering.

OOC: That works for me. If it gets close in the distraction, the Jedi will be better with their lightsabers.

We should trigger the bomb now, before we do anything, so we don't have to go back for it.

Yes. We can set it as we leave. Better since we can adjust the time if needed. And we don't want to set it until we have the ship(s).
