Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

The next few minutes are spent much in the same way they had been going the few before that, crew scrambling to get the ship ready, passengers making themselves accustomed to the ship. The bow of the sports no figurehead though it does narrow considerably the father forward you go, giving the impression that the vessel will cut cleanly and swiftly through the water. The main mast has a taut rope ladder leading up to the crow's nest which itself is only big enough to support two people at a time with a little standing room in between them.

Down below deck, Solomon first encounters the living area at the bottom of the stairs leading below deck, triple stacked hammocks lining the walls haphazardly. A door at the back of the room leads to a small hallway with four rooms, two on each side, presumedly where passengers sleep. Through another door at the end of the hallway, the cargo hold opens up and lets light in through the grate in the deck of the ship. Cho'kobo is pacing a few feet back and forth, obviously not used to the confined spaces though he seems to calm down a bit at the sight of Solomon. Since the Leaking Lifeboat just offloaded their cargo, there are only a handful of crates left aboard giving the axebeak enough room to walk around and there is a pile of hay in one corner to provide him with a place to sleep.

Back up top, those on deck see that the stern of the ship has a staircase on either side of a large wooden double door that leads into the captain's quarters while the stairs themselves lead up to the bridge of the vessel where Captain Broadarm has taken up residence at the moment, looking between a compass and a silver pocket watch while watching the crew finish their preparations. Snapping the pocket watch shut, he calls down to Temnir, "When's this acquaintance o' yers gettin 'ere? The crew looking t' be ready t' be off in no more than fifteen minutes."

Looking back over the railing at the town, Temnir seems to perk up and turn back to the captain, "Speak of the devil captain, here he comes." Temnir closes his eyes, says a quick incantation and mutters a quick sentence into the message spell. For anyone looking, a rather nondescript man wearing simple clothes under a chain shirt looks around a little startled and turns his head to look directly at the ship and, spying Temnir, quickens his pace and heads in the group's direction. "And here I was thinking yet another hopeful had decided to run away, tail in-between their legs. Welcome aboard Renard."

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Making his way up the gangplank to the deck Renard approaches the man wrapped all in black, his gloved right hand extended in greeting to clasp Temnir's and give it a firm shake.  Though he was of average height and countenance he carried himself with noticeable presence.  His eyes, an unremarkable brown, somehow seemed to see more than just what was on the surface of those he looked at.  His manner was friendly, if a bit odd, and oddest of all was that set of chains and manacles hanging about his neck, as if he fancied himself some sort of vigilante lawman.

"I hope I haven't delayed our departure, Jeeves was up to even more no-good than usual.  I had to pack my things no less than three times before I was sure everything was there."

Should anyone other than Temnir approach he would half-bow in greeting and offer his right hand to shake.

Seeing the approach of the newcomer approach, Raznik looks on in mild curiosity, before returning to the job in hand. He is currently wandering the deck casting cantrips on anything that looks even mildly damaged: frayed rope, splintered planks, dented balustrades, all mended by magic.

Felicia, spotting the newcomer, looks him over, then walks up to him. She smiles pleasantly looking up at him from her meager five feet of height. Today she is wearing snug fitting white trousers and a white top that ties in front just under her breasts. She wears a pack with a composite longbow secured to it that looks way to heavy for someone of her stature to draw. You see no other weapons about her person, at least until she offers her hand. Her 'nails' are quite frankly, claws. Oddly, they look to made of silver.

"Hi! I'm Felicia Armstrong. What are the chains for?", she asks bluntly. Her grip is firm and she matches the force you put into yours.

Kuldar hung back for now, nodding at the newcomer with a smile, before thinking on what performances the crew might enjoy when night rolls around. The life of a Bard was one full of intrigue, and he had learned quite a bit about the other races in his travels, but few seemed as enamored by their own past like the Dwarves.

He eyed the cat-woman oddly, having never seen anyone quite like her before.  He was not hesitant to accept the offered hand, however, giving a brief shake and a half-bow, causing that padlock to swing forward slightly then thump against his stomach as he rights himself again, "Oh, it's just a way for Jeeves to get my attention without doing something nasty."  As if on cue the lock snaps open, apparently of its own volition.

He looks around the deck of the ship, eyeing the deckhands and the other passengers carefully before settling his gaze back on Felicia, "So, where we headed?  And, uh.. why?"

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

At Renard's question, Temnir strides forward from his resting place on the rail, "I think I can answer that for you. Sorry for keeping you in the dark thus far, I didn't want to discuss it in town as the attack on Anvilfall was started with subterfuge; I thought there may be spies still lingering in the town. As I mentioned last night though, I had noticed that you are of the order of Pelor," his eyes shift to the man's hands, "an order that my comrades, Uther and Petrus Darkbane, were also members of. They have been missing for almost two weeks now on the hunt for the cause of the undead menace that I'm sure you have noticed by now is sweeping our world. I was...separated from them in a way that would take too long to explain currently but suffice it to say, I am anxious to find out their fate. Last I saw them, they were in quite the perilous predicament."

He pauses to catch his breath. Temnir had never been one for extended conversation and he found the ordeal tiresome and repetitive. "Of course there are others with them, Vargus Orstryder, Blaith Cathrak, and Arudal Stonewall, and their saftey is of concern to me as well. At the very least I would like to ascertain their fate with my own eyes before I move on with my quest. At that point, you may all go your separate ways if you wish. I, personally, will be taking the fighting to the enemy's doorstep...though I am not yet certain where that may be. I hope to find clues to its whereabouts in the same place I last saw my companions."

"Heldenburg was the last town we were in and was recently under siege by the undead forces when we were asked to investigate the possible origin of the undead in the silver mine and that is where we were separated. That is we head there first. There were allies yet alive when last I saw them and they may be able to assist us further with rations and possibly armed escorts. As for why any of this concerns you, it very well may not, in which case I suggest you leave this ship at your earliest convenience as we are moments from making way. I was hoping you had some connection to the church and could accompany us as a consultant of sorts as I do not believe the paladin has any ties to the church himself...speaking of, where did that incessant man get to now?" Looking around deck, Temnir seems distracted enough to cease talking long enough for someone else to finally get a word in.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Below decks Solomon was doing his best to calm the aggitated Axe Beak.  He had hoped somehow the familiar connection would give him peace of mind as well.  He had put on a brave face for the others, Raznik in particular, but the last time he was at sea he was quite ill and uncomfortable.  He didn't fear the water or sailing, but the motion of the ocean didn't agree with him.

He intended to remain below decks until the ship set sail.  Once it began moving he would head up, as the sights and fresh air might help put off the inevitable.

Now that the explanation is out of the way, Felicia asks Renard, "Who's Jeeves. You're not telling me the chains are intelligent are you?"

Shaking his head slowly Ren lets out a tiresome sigh as if this was something he had explained before with generally a bad reaction from whoever he was explaining it to, "No, no, not at all.  That would actually be nicer, then I could store him away in my pack whenever I needed a moment's peace.  No, Jeeves is my ghost.  Well, not my ghost, he's.. hmm.. he's a poltergeist who follows me around and torments me, but he also helps me too sometimes."  Once again responding to his name an image of a widely grinning mouth appears in front Renard.  It sticks its tongue out at Felicia, blows a raspberry (PHBBBBBT) then disappears in a wisp of colored-yet-odorless smoke.  Renard sighs wearily, bringing one hand up to facepalm, "Sorry about that."

Jeeves Casts Minor image (allows basic sounds, no words), taking up one level 2 spell slot for the day.  What a jackwagon...

Kuldar lets out a hearty laugh at the little show of colors and such, he couldn't judge if it was truly a spirit, but he didn't often hear of such things haunting specific people, rather then a place. He walks over and offers an armored hand to the man, with a big dwarven smile that fills most of his face. "Nice ta meet'cha son, I'm Kuldar Balak, Dwarven teller of tales. This-" He gestures to the armored Boar that looks like it's panting and wagging its tail. "Is Kilgur, my faithful companion and steed. Not to sound rude, but why exactly are you coming along? I speak of your skills...I may be a bard but as a Dwarf I am not shy to combat." He pats his wide-headed axe to illustrate the point, and Renard might note he is wearing fullplate.

Annoyed at the 'ghosts' greeting and not bothering to hide it,  Felicia looks Renard in the eye and tells him, "I don't blame you for that."

She takes one step back and holds up one hand, popping her claws. They look like they could do a lot of damage. They do indeed seem to be made of (or coated with) silver and as you look they burst into flame as well. Felicia speaks calmly but forcefully, "Jeeves...I've got no real beef with you. Unless you want me to slice you into ectoplasmic kitty litter I suggest you keep it that way. Check the claws yourself if you want. They can cut you as well as any enchanted sword could."

Felicia leaves her claws out for a few moments to give Jeeves a chance to see they are indeed as able to hit him as an enchanted sword could.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Jeeves doesn't seem to react to the cat-woman's taunting at all, but Renard nods respectfully to her anyways, "If he causes me any real trouble I'll be sure to let you know so you can teach him a lesson or two."  With that he turns and shakes the well-armored hand offered by the equally-well-armored dwarf, "A pleasure, sir.  Temnir asked me to come along.  He seems to think you lot will be putting yourselves in danger.  I'm coming along to make sure you make it back in one piece.  I have knowledge of support spells, particularly those of a healing nature.  I can't say I'm much good with weapons, but perhaps with my help your own might become more effective.  In fact as a Bard you may appreciate the Eagle's Splendor spell I happen to know.  It can make you more.. ah.. attractive, in a way, something that a musician can always use to get a little more appreciation from their audience."  Hoping that this answer was sufficient for the Dwarf, Renard leans down to pat the dog-like boar on the head.  His other hand rummages through a belt pouch to find some dried meat for the friendly beast.  Unfortunately it seems Jeeves has been moving his things around again and he comes up empty-handed.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

It takes only a few more minutes for the crew to finish up their preparations and The Leaking Lifeboat jerks into motion, sending all the land-lubbers a step forward, catching themselves from falling over onto their faces save for Felicia who manages to keep her balance with a cat-like grace. "Shovin off lads and lasses! If ya got anythin back on shore, it be too late now!" Broadarm shouts with a cackle as he spins the helm to bring the ship out into open waters.

The ride is a little bit jerky in the waters of the secluded natural bay from waves coming in and bouncing off the shores but half an hour later, after you've finally gotten your sea legs settled a bit, the boat hits open water which is a whole other matter entirely. The listing of the boat takes a turn for the worse, the weather not behaving as well as the captain predicted it would, waves coming up and splashing over the side of the boat periodically and wind gusting at a decent enough speed to make holding onto hats, papers, and small children and halflings necessary.

"We'll be out o' this chop soon enough, don'tcha worry!" Broadarm shouts over the howling wind to those still brave or sick enough to remain on deck. The small storm lasts for the rest of the day and the better part of the night before calming down a couple of hours before daybreak, leaving the crew drained, and a few of the passengers seasick. At dawn the next morning, you can hear Broadarm on deck already beginning to shout orders to crew who you can hear scrambling up the stairs to the deck to start the day's duties.

OOC: Post your actions during the day, keep in mind that Broadarm will probably put you guys to work starting on the second day, opting to have some of the crew members train you in certain jobs today. Also, for sea sickness, feel free to RP it out as you see fit. I won't hold it over certain people or roll for randomness of it. If you feel it fits or doesn't fit, go with your gut.

Renard finds himself up and about early in the day.  He looks for a chance to introduce himself to anyone he didn't meet on the previous day.  He wasn't sure just how far away Heldenburg was, having never been there before, but visiting new places was one of the joys in his life.  If he notices anyone feeling seasick he would offer a healing spell to see if it helps.  Occasionally the chains hanging around his neck will clink together without apparent cause and the padlock will pop open or snap shut of its own volition.

Between her iron will and her natural agility, Felicia had gained her 'sea legs' quickly the day before. She had still spent most of the previous day below decks, the weather being a bit too brick for her to find it pleasant.

Come the morning she bounces out onto the main deck, a smile on her face and a spring in her step. It's rather obvious that she suffered little if at all from the foul weather.

Finding the Captain, she waits till he's not immediately occupied and steps up to him giving a jaunty salute and smile as she says, "Novice seaman Armstrong reporting! What are my duties today Cap'n Broadarm?"

There be the crow's nest that could use some attention...that or the riggin...Unless ya like t' keep yer feet on the ground in which case I can 'ave ya work with ol' Mertos over yonder." Following his eyes, you see an old bald human, old enough to be most of the crew's father twice over with a hunched back currently tying knots to keep the rigging and sails in place.

Kuldar nearly falls over himself at least half a dozen times over...he was not particularly graceful but, hell, that wasn't his job. He does his part by playing his drums to a simple rhythm as he tells the tales of Dwarves long past, moving on to legends that involved ships, or discovering new lands. He did not know any sea shanties, or anything quite so quick-paced, but they were well-measured, and entertaining to most.

"Well ye hit the nail on the 'ead ya did. Lookout fer rocks, other ships, n' the like o' things that'd put a quick end t' our voyage. May be some work relatin t' the upper rigging lines but that be easy enough. Ya can get up there by the mast ladder or them ratlines," he points to both in turn, the ratlines being the interlaced ropes leading from the railings to the crossbar across the mast.

Kuldar's musical ministrations seem to boost morale after the squall, keeping the crew in time as they tie off ropes, swab the deck, and raise the mast to get the ship moving at full speed again now that the storm has gone. None of the crew know any of the stories well enough to sing along at any part where it would be appropriate but they enjoy the tales nonetheless but are still able to keep to their duties, a happy medium. "Kuldar ye just keep up what yer doin n' ye should be just fine."

Solomon tried to keep scarce.  He was indeed sufferring sea sickness, but didn't want to burden people with it.  While devine spells would make it go away for a few minutes it always came right back again.  During the storm, he sat propped up against the railing letting the rain beat down on him.  Strangely, enough that was was the best of cures.

The second day he was content to slowly push a mob back and forth across the deck.

Kuldar gives a heavy laugh, obviously entertained by the work he was doing. "Ye don' have ta tell me twice, I live fer this kind of work." After some time when the work was less strenuous, Kuldar would begin singing Sea Shanties, or when work was slow enough the crew could enjoy a rest even a nice drinking song. His singing was not the best but his instrument seemed to make up for it with a solid rhythm, and once the crew had a few drinks no one could resist joining in.

Temnir comes out of the ship's interior a couple of hours after dawn, one of the, if not the, last person to do so. It doesn't look like he's been touched with any of the sea sickness that Solomon has been suffering from and his sea legs seem to have found him at some point during the night so it's likely a case of oversleeping or preparing for the day ahead. Making the deck, he looks around, seeing Kuldar at his post with his drums, Solomon and Renard talking over by the front of the ship with a mop a piece, and even spies Felicia up in the rigging as he looks up to check the sun's position in the sky.

He decides to walk over to Solomon and Renard though, "Morning," he says raggedly. It seems that the verdict was oversleeping after all. "Either of you seen Raznik this morning? I was hoping to have a word." Scanning the deck once again and not seeing the man, he shrugs slightly and turns his attention back to the men of faith, "One day down, two more to go if the weather stays with us by the captain's reckoning. Least that's what he told us when we hired him. I, for one, will be happy when we're off this wooden deathtrap."

Raznik spends the morning hiding beneath the deck. He does not feel any sickness, simply fear. The shaking of the ship has his mind playing tricks. Today he will die, and it will be a lonely death at sea, on a machine that should not exist. Hearing Temnir rise and leave, he realizes that he is the last belowdecks, and steels himself. Once on deck he is careful to stay far from the edges of the ship, rushing to the mast and clutching it for safety.

Temnir starts to chuckle at first but soon breaks out into unbridled laughter, "So let me get this straight," he says through gasps of air, "you're willing to follow me into the heart of the undead's base of operations, against possibly hundreds of undead and their masters, where we'll face death constantly but what you're afraid of is the ship that's taking us there?" Clapping Raznik on the shoulder before walking towards Renard once again, he wipes a tear from his eye, "Oh that's rich."

Coming up on the two men of faith again, "Renard, I overheard you saying you had cures for seasickness... How about fear?" he says looking over his shoulder to their mast-clinging comrade.

Looking up from his mediocre mopping to Temnir he shrugs and shakes his head slightly, "Not so much, no, unless you feel that the ship is evil.  Possibly sanctuary but that lasts little more than a minute and.."  He gets a thoughtful look on his face for a few seconds as he ponders the idea, then he turns to Raznik, "Tell me, do you perceive the seasickness as a direct attack from the ship?  Then it might actually work, if only for a short while."  It was a rather silly question, but Renard didn't always know the nuances of his own magic.  He'd never studied it he'd always just.. done it.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

The day continues on and the group gets used to their duties that the Captain had given them. Though gruff in the negotiations meeting with Raznik and Temnir and during the loading process, now that he's in his element, he's a bit more carefree and helpful if still a bit rough around the edges, especially when it has to do with failure or dereliction of duties. The group gets to know a few of the crew members, among them Plume, the tengu lookout in the crow's nest with Felicia, Tralin, a gnome who is the overseer for Solomon, Renard, and Raznik in their mopping and rope tying, and Elona, a surprise if ever there was one. Elona is a beautiful human woman though the moment she opens her mouth, you'd regret crawling out of your mother's womb. She didn't earn her title as First Mate for being nice to others after all and spends most of the day yelling at Temnir who seems only half-interested in his work, much to her ire.

At the end of the day, the ship settles down and begins the night shift and upon waking the next morning, the ship mates find themselves in a thick fog bank, less than a day away from Heldenburg. "May take us a bit longer than expected if'n this fog don't let up. Can't see me own beard in front o' me face, let alone the rocks this part be known fer. Plume! Felicia! Keep an eye out, nay, both eyes out fer rocks if ye can," Broadarm shouts into the fog above in the general direction of the crow's nest. Elona stands at the rails at the bow of the ship, calling out to the Captain here and there for course directions and when she spots the tips of the sunken rocks.

The longer you're subjected to it, the more you notice that something smells off. As if the air itself is spoiled. A smell like a mix of spoiled fish, decay, and concentrated brine. Solomon is the first to notice, his seasickness only worsening at the combination of the rocking and the smell though mercifully, at this slower speed, the rocking of the boat is much gentler. The crew notice it too and seem to be a bit on edge as they go about their duties much more cautiously than normal. Even Broadarm has a bit of a worried look on his face though only when he feels no one is looking...

Despite the odd fog Renard is not put off at all.  He's been in fog before and, though it may be strange-smelling, well, they are out at sea after all.  There's all sorts of things that could be making that smell.  No, it's the uneasiness of the crew and captain that's getting to him, though he does his best to go about his duties.  It's difficult to maintain a happy disposition, however, when Jeeves won't stop rattling his chains and popping his lock open and closed, seeming more agitated than usual.

"Still think the sea god isn't trying to curse us?" he said to Renard.  He had a spell that would protect him or another from evil, and constantly considerred casting it.

The smell, lack of sight, and general feel was all factors he had to take into account...he tried thinking back and remembering what might be the cause. Ghost Ship? Sea Monster? He pondered...he did not fare into waters often so it was not his subject of choice.

Kuldar frowns a bit at the revelation that there were ships, he may have misheard but now the idea that they were drums became more likely. He did not recognize the pattern as hostile though, and couldn't identify the meaning...thinking on it they could have been to warn other ships of their presence. Taking this into account, Kuldar sets himself down and pulls his drums out. "I've got an idea, 'ope I ain't wrong." He then begins to mimic the pattern, but half a beat out of sync so it would be obvious this is coming from another source. Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

As Kuldar begins to play his drums in return, the sound from what is assumedly the ships begins getting louder and faster. Elona looks to Solomon, "Looks like that answers that," she states very matter-of-factly. As the noise gets louder and closer still, shadows start appearing on the port and starboard sides of the ship about 100 yards ahead of The Leaking Lifeboat a few moments before the ships themselves become visible and it is plainly obvious that these are not friendly ships lost in the fog.

As soon as the front of the ships break through into sight, you can see that these ships are decrepit, covered in seaweed and barnacles, missing strips of wood, have ragged sails, and are a bloated greenish color as they glide altogether too perfectly through the water. But it is not the ships themselves that garner the attention of the crew, it is what is on the boats that seems to frighten then and send them running for weapons. On board the two vessels are handfuls of men, or at least the same shape as men though these things are covered in barnacles and seaweed, much like the ships, and stare with blank eyes forward at the party's vessel with mouths hanging open letting a steady stream of water pour down their fronts to join the dripping that comes off of every part of their bodies.

As the ships move forward further to fully expose themselves, at the head of each ship is a figure that is a bit larger than the others, likely the captains, as both seem to have a bit more animation in their actions. That or it could be the garnet-red glowing eyes that burn with an intelligent malevolence.

Wide eyed himself, Broadarm snaps-to, "DRAUGR SHIPS! ALL HANDS ON DECK! GRAB YER WEAPONS AND MAKE READY FER BOARDNG PARTIES! AND SOMEONE MAN THOSE DAMNED SCORPIONS AND START FIRIN!" The remaining cre down below comes running up the stairs with armfuls of weapons, scimitars, short swords, rapiers, and a few crossbows and dump them in the middle of the boat as the crew scramble over to get their hands on one while Tralin and Elona run to the bow of the deck and start cranking two winches which raise the scorpions onto the deck and get to loading them as fast as they can.

"May Pelor's grace flow through me rather than the unseen sun.  May the divine fires of purity lance forth from my finger tips and pierce the heart of darkness," he prays out loud, calling for the ability to smite evil.

Solomon wasn't the only one using magic, be it divine or arcane, for protection.  Since he couldn't reach Felicia who was up in the crow's next, and the crew of the Leaky Lifeboat were probably too superstitious, Solomon cast a protection spell on himself.

He then set down his bow and unslung Pelor's Thumb, his large exotic tetsubo.  The undead were going to have a hell of a fight should they try and board.  Solomon moved to the edge of the ship closest to where they would be boarded.  He wanted to be right in the thick of things.

As the crew scrambles to their positions and a handful of spells are called out by the party, the ships draw nearer and nearer. Solomon looses his blessed arrow and as it shoots through the air, it dispels the fog in a foot radius of where the arrow flies. It seems his shot is indeed blessed as it hits the captain, against all odds, and while the initial hit of the arrow doesn't seem to be all that effective, the delayed radiant blast that accompanies the arrow makes one of the captain's knees give out which causes him to stumble and grasp the wheel for support, beginning to turn the ship before he can correct the course, putting his ship a little behind the other. As the ships begin to pull up along side the Leaking Lifeboat though, the stench of the draugr becomes much more putrid and then the boarding ladders start being extended...

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

From his position near the stern he is able to catch most of the starboard ship in his spell, and what he sees is rather surprising.  He calls out as loud as he can so everyone can hear, "Right side has 11 undead, 10 weaker ones, 1 stronger.  And, uh.. the ship is undead too?  I assume the same applies to the other ship but be careful either way!"  For the moment he was glad he was relatively safe from the undead, but the fact that the ship was somehow undead too was bothering him.  He shrugs it off and scans the starboard ship for the stronger undead nearer to its bow, holds up his palm in that direction, mumbles a word, and fires from his palm what appears to be a ray of sunlight among the foggy gloom.

Swinging the sling in his hand, Raznik lets fly with the bullet aiming for the nearest corpse. Yx'raul looks ready to dash across but Raznik holds out this hand, before placing another bullet in his sling. "Hold Yx'raul. Attack if they board." Temnir's eyes speak of a smile as his plan comes to fruition as the spectral hand takes its place behind the captain of the first ship, grabbing ahold of the captain's torso momentarily and glowing purple before letting go. Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Wasting no time at the controls of the scorpion, Elona finishes loading the weapon and takes careful aim at the closest pair of draugr to her and fires the massive bolt right through the unlucky undead and into the next, sending both flying into the mast where the bolt comes to rest, 2 lifeless bodies hanging off of it. Talin likewise takes his shot, aiming at the captain and the few draugr up with him but only succeeds in pegging the side of the ship which makes a large squelching voice rather than the expected metal breaking wood noise you would expect. Meanwhile, Solomon crosses the ship and attempts to give the crew a boost to their morale, "They are already dead. They are just too dumb to have realized it yet. Let's knock that bit of sense into them." It seems to have the intended effect as the few crewmen who had begun to cower a bit stood up a bit straighter and readied their weapons.

The captain of the ship that has already begun attempting to board steps away from his wheel and shuffles to the rail, raising a crossbow and firing back at the gnome, hitting him in the shoulder causing him to fall backwards clutching the shaft. The other captain lets out a loud gurgling roar and points to the Leaking Lifeboat to which the crew begin readying the boarding ladders.

With the second ship apparently not going anywhere, Renard uses vestiges of his Detect Undead spell to relay some vital information to the crew, "Right side has 11 undead, 10 weaker ones, 1 stronger.  And, uh.. the ship is undead too?  I assume the same applies to the other ship but be careful either way!" He follows up his announcement with a bright ray of light that streams from the stern of the Leaky Lifeboat all the way to the stern of the enemy ship, striking the captain in the chest, singing his clothing and burning his dead flesh. Some of the crew nod and position themselves along the railing, waiting for the draugr to cross, various weapons at the ready. Felicia, however, remains where she is, scouting out the two fronts of the impending conflict, trying to decide which side would need her skills the most as does Plume in the crow's nest above with his crossbow.

"Kilgur! Set yerself in fron'a one plank, I'll get another," Kuldar calls to his mount as he hops off the battle boar and it heads past Raznik and Yx'raul to take his place in front of the top boarding ladder, tusks ready for anyone brave enough to cross. "Hold Yx'raul. Attack if they board." Raznik commands his eidolon, a command the creature seems not to like being given and obeys grudgingly, especially with his master already using his own weapon. The bullet slung from his sling flies through the air towards the draugr opposite him though it ricochets off of one of the draugr ship's mast's guidelines and shoots into the water between the two ships. Meanwhile, Temnir continues his chain of spells and as his spectral hand materializes behind the captain of the first ship and grabs him around the torso, Temnir smiles with renewed energy and calls out to the crew much like Solomon, "They know we're on the right track and are coming to stop us! Show them we're not so easy to scare!"

Broadarm looks around to both ships, his own crew, and calls out, "You heard 'em lads! The less o' em ya let on me ship, the more o' you will reach home t' see yer loved ones! Fight fer yer lives, they damn well depend on it! Five gold pieces fer every rotten peg leg ye get off o' these sorry bastards!" The captain's bounty is met with a loud cheer from the crew as the prospect of gold outweighs many of their fears.

The draugr on the right boat take the cheering of the crew as a sign to charge and take off across the gap with speed deceptive of their decrepit and soggy demeanors, removing great axes from their backs as they go and swinging them with frightening speed at anyone in their path. Kilgur is the first to find his foe, slamming a tusk in through the draugr's calf and out through it's hip section. Yx'raul takes this moment to get into the action as well, moving forward, raising himself up, and slamming his body into the already injured draugr, raking its claws through the flesh on its back as he does so, thus scoring the first casualty of the boarding party. The other two boarding ladders find crewman versus crewman with mixed results. One crewman successfully keeps the draugr on the ladder while the other is pushed back, allowing the undead onto the ship. One of the undead accompanying the captain of the vessel takes a different approach on boarding the vessel and grabs a rope and swings onto the bow of the ship, successfully dodging both of the attacks aimed at him as he does so.

The undead vessel that just pulled up gets the fight started a bit more efficiently as one draugr drops the boarding ladder and  immediately moves out of the way for another to begin moving across, two of them uncontested, and another moving fast enough to dodge both of the slices aimed at him. Yet another swings onto the bow of the ship as well though, adding to the fronts that begin forming around the ship.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Though his last attack was quite a show he couldn't help but notice that there were more of these Draugr near his end of the ship than pretty much anywhere else.  He focuses on one of the undead nasties who is in the process of crossing the boarding latter and mumbles a spell to himself, one hand gripping his chains tight as three links detach from a loose end and fly towards the Draugr.  The rounded bits of metal change shape and substance until they become bands of magical force that attempt to wrap around the Draugr and hold him fast, hopefully, in the process, preventing the other two behind him from crossing for now...

As soon as the spell no longer requires his attention he tugs on the sling of his crossbow and brings it around to the front, quickly snapping a bolt into place as he'd practiced so thoroughly.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Congealed blood staining his mouth, Yx'Raul looks to his master and leaps back into action, crossing the ship and executing series of vicious slams, claws, and bites, tearing huge sections of flesh out of the undead and essentially disemboweling it though it remains standing and retaliates, raising it's greataxe above its head though the fresh injuries seem to effect it quite a lot as the strain of heaving the massive weapon overhead prove too much for it and the weapon slips from its grasp onto the deck behind it. The draugr behind it attempts to charge the eidolon, hoping to be more successful but is easily parried by the large creature. Elona skillfully pops two long hilted daggers out from her sleeves and proceeds to quickly burry them both in the draugr's eyes in front of her though that doesn't seem to deter it in the least as it swings and almost catches her arms as she drawn them back. Solomon is close to this and calls out a prayer to Pelor, "By the holy light of Pelor, reduce these undead to ash and scatter them to the sea!" as a golden light defends from the heavens onto him and explodes outward in every direction. The impressive display of faith shakes some of the nearer draugr, straight out obliterating the one who dropped his axe in a shower of golden sparks, but the others don't seem to be fully effected. However, as the wave of light washes over the draugr ship, the beating that had been persisting even now during battle, increases its speed and volume and a loud whining creak echoes out from what seems like the ship itself as it rocks back and forth, almost throwing a few of the draugr from their boarding ladders. As you look at where the light touched the boat, there are now charred burn marks. Clearly not happy with the channeling, the draugr on the railing of the Lifeboat brings his axe down hard and cuts into Solomon's shoulder, right through his plate mail. Whether being in such proximity to the foul smelling creature or the barnacle encrusted greataxe itself, a momentary wave of nausea threatens to overwhelm him before he is able to push it down.

Tralin busies himself reloading the scorpion, hoping to get another shot off at the captain if the situation permits though the act seems a bit futile with multiple draugr already on the deck of the ship with more likely about to board and in fact, the captain seems to notice his plan and reacts accordingly. Pushing the draugr pirate aside from the rope it had been grabbing, the captain grabs hold and swings himself over the the boat, unsheathing a pitch black bladed scimitar as he does so, and lands behind a pair of the crew, blade slicing through the back of both of the sailors calves and the man visibly turns pale as, though he remains upright, he looks haggard and terrified, rightly so it would seem. The captain of the other ship makes his way down to the midship railing and opens his mouth wide as a roiling mist begins to be expelled from it, obscuring everything in its path.

Fighting between opposing crews continue all over the ship and it seems that the Lifeboat's crew have done some decent damage to their undead counterparts, even going so far as to seriously wound the captain who had made his way over to their ship. At the south eastern boarding ladder, the draugr there continues to make progress, cutting down one of the sailors, sending him to his back and, though still alive, badly wounded. The man begins to scream in pain as the draugr advance. The crew member manning the middle boarding ladder suffers the same fate as one of the draugr who made it across down south moves in and strikes the man in the gut with his axe. The man next to Solomon also suffers an injury as does a crew member down to the southwest.

Renard has the presence of mind to try and halt the progress of the boarding draugr and casts a spell as three links of the chain around his neck fly off and begin to wrap around the undead creature who, much to Renard's dismay, wards them off with his weapon, leaving him free to continue his boarding process. Luckily though, a couple of other crewmen have showed up to assist the lone man who had been fending off the boarding party. Broadarm strides over and claps him on the shoulder, "Nice try lad, let me give it a go," as he looks into his coat for a moment with a indecisive look on his face he decides on the crossbow hanging from his hip, raises it, and fires at the same draugr, however he too misses. "Lightless, good for nothing, orc-wood piece of shit!" he swears, throwing the crossbow to the ground.

Kuldar keeps his encouragement up to the crew and congratulates Kilgur on his help with the kill. Seeing one of the crewmen alone against one of the draugr, he charges over to help the man, "We've got this! Focus your attacks, stand together and we win together!" Normally this would inspire the man to greatness but as he charges to the man's aid, the ship rolls a bit as a wave goes by underneath and he looses his footing and falls to the group a few feet sort of his intended destination. Kilgur lets out another squeal which you could interpret as laughter though his attempted gore misses its mark, the draugr apparently having seen his ally's fate moments before. The undead tries to counterattack but swings high and misses his blow as well.

Felicia moves with catlike grace across the deck towards Solomon, Elona, and Yx'raul, looking to get her claws dirty with the nearby draugr. Plume, still up in the crow's nest, fires off an bolt from his crossbow at the same draugr that was Renard and Broadarm's target, finally scoring a hit on the undead in the shoulder though it doesn't look like the draugr even realizes it was hit. Meanwhile at the stern of the ship, Temnir continues to concentrate while controlling his spectral hand, "Let's see how a bit of electricity works on that soaked body of yours captain..." His attack is a success and moments after the jolt of electricity surges over the captain, the draugr drops to its knees and falls over on it's side, brought to death once again.

"Ah. What fun. I love corpses, though it's better when I get to make them. Wouldn't you agree, Yx'raul?" Raznik laughs in an arrogant and somewhat mad voice and breaks down into cackling laughter as Yx'razul looks back to his master, eyes glowing with a malicious light, and roars loudly in agreement. Still prone on the ground, Kuldar gets a good look at the summoner and something seems off about him though physically he still remains exactly the same.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Now that was interesting to see.  Focused as he was on the Draugr still upon the nearest boarding ladder he had a good view of the damage Solomon's channeled energy did to the ship.  At the same time he saw how one of the Draugr took down a crewman in a single blow.  He was torn between two courses of action; he could try to do more damage to the ship and possibly sink it or he could prevent the crewman's death for at least a little longer...

In the end it is the latter course of action that wins out.  "Try mine, Captain," he says as he hands his loaded crossbow over to Broadarm and moves towards the fallen crewman.  Once he's there, just outside the reach of the flailing weapons of the crewmates and Draugr, he calls down a flow of energy similar to Solomon's, this one intended for the living rather than the undead.  A plan began to form in his head and, as is always the case in chaos, his chosen course of action would reflect the results of the next few moments of the battle.

Getting a better idea of the range of his blessing, Solomon moves to take further advantage of it.  He places himself between two of the boarding ladders and close to the ship's edge {N2}"May Pelor's light burn away your sins and your putrid flesh.  Return to the belly of Davey Jone's locker from which you came!"  Once again a pulse of golden energy radiates outwards in a circle centered on Solomon.  Having never witnessed an undead ship he couldn't even fathom how much damage such a thing could take before sinking to the bottom of the sea.

Seeing two of the deckhands fall, Temnir crosses the deck, chanting a spell the entire time before reaching the other side of the deck and expelling a mass of webbing from his hand towards the two weakest boarding ladders, hoping to delay the progress of the boarding draugr. "Renard, time to show us what you can do. Help the crewmen!" he calls out to Renard who already seems to be moving into action.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Yx'Razul continues his bloodthirsty assault, cobalt eyes shining with an intense and vicious light as he thrusts forward again landing a series of blows as well as a particularly vicious bite on the draugr's neck which causes its limbs to stiffen a bit and the greataxe seems to gain some weight in the undead's hand. Felicia, not to be left out of the fight, assists the eidolon with claws of her own, burning the draugr badly and causing it to drop to one knee, the greataxe hitting the deck with a hollow thud. Elona likewise, now back to back with the eidolon flourishes one of her blades, bringing the draugr's attention to it while she plunges the other in the side of its head, dropping it instantly. Tralin, a bit unsure of what to do, finishes loading the scorpion and begins looking around for a suitable target but none seems to be found so he keeps his vigil and keeps aiming the oversized weapon every which way.

The last remaining draugr captain is still lost in the fog for a few moments before he comes charging out of the mist, black blade identical to the other felled captain's in his hand and a murderous look in his glowing red eyes as he lets out a guttural gurgling roar to which his crew members respond to in kind. The crew of the Leaking Lifeboat, however, still under the bolstering effects of Kuldar's bardic inspiration and their killing of one of the two draugr captains are not to be deterred. Almost every group of sailors gets at least one hit in on the draugr though none are downed as of yet, they sure are getting close.

A bit in awe at the channeling prowess of Solomon, it takes Renard a moment to act but Temnir snaps him out of his distracted state, "Renard, time to show us what you can do. Help the crewmen!" Renard snaps out of it and looks to Captain Broadarm, proffering his crossbow, "Try mine, Captain." Broadarm raises an eyebrow after his fit of swearing and pushes it back on him, "N'thanks lad, I got somethin that'll do the trick a bit better I reckon," as he goes for whatever was in his coat pocket, bringing out a small forearm length of wood and metal, an odd contraption the likes of which neither Renard or Temnir have ever seen and begins to tamper with the device as Renard takes Temnir's words to heart and dashes down the stairs to the sides of the downed crewmen. He doesn't grab any holy symbol that you can see, simply raises his hand to the sky and a similar radiant beam shoots down and engulfs him. His is a bit softer if such can be said about celestial light but it shoots out in every direction in tendrils, making its way into the chests of every ally in range, closing wounds of the two near death crewmen and a few others as well as the shoulder wound Solomon had taken a few moments earlier.

Kuldar shakes the fall off and scrambles back to his feet but as he does so, the nearby Raznik continues to cackle with maddening laughter and when his eyes look at the summoner's face, an evil grin is plastered to the man's face as well as a hungry look in his eyes as he eyes the dwarf, "A dwarf. How delightful. I wonder what dwarf meat tastes like." He licks his lips and breaks down into laughter once again. Kuldar hurries himself away from the man and puts him out of his mind for the moment, bringing his axe to bear against a nearby draugr, cutting a chunk out of the undead. Kilgur also finds purchase with his follow up gore attack though as he attempts to put some distance between himself and his opponent, he gets caught by an unlucky swing of the axe, opening up a bloody wound on one of his haunches which elicits a loud squeal of pain from the boar as well as a series of heaving noises as the boar seems to turn a bit green around the eyes.

Broadarm seems to have finally figured out how to get his contraption working and pointing it at one of the crossing draugr, takes aim and pulls a small finger lever on the device and a tremendous 'BOOM!' resounds, sending Temnir jumping back in surprise and the crew members in front of him ducking involuntarily. However, whatever the device did, one of the draugr now has a large hole in its left side and its organs, or what is left of them, are quickly spilling out into the ocean.

The draugr crew seem to not be going down without a fight, no matter how many of their members are slain by the heroes. A few  more get in some hits on various crewmen, downing one into unconsciousness up north where the first captain had been slain, and missing Yx'razul, Kilgur, and Elona in turn. Seeing the advance of the draugr, Temnir regains his composure with a wary glade at Broadarm and casts his spell sending a gold of white webbing flying at the two southernmost boarding ladders successfully hindering two of the undead.

Back on the other side of the ship, Solomon grabs his holy symbol of Pelor which is still glowing radiantly with the power that had rushed through him moment before, "May Pelor's light burn away your sins and your putrid flesh. Return to the belly of Davey Jone's locker from which you came!" as another burst of the radiant golden energy rushes forth over the draugr and the ship. This time, the blast seems to have more of an effect, finishing off yet another of the draugr, the one Yx'raul and Felicia had almost killed, and burning even more of the ship. This, however, has an unforeseen effect. As the light washes over the ship, an incredibly loud and piercing shriek comes from the innards of the boat as the cargo hold doors on the deck burst open, sending splinters of wood flying every which way and ridding the area of some of the obscuring mist. Plume calls out in a panicked voice from the crow's nest, "Cap'n we got trouble over here!" Out from the depths, a huge mass of what looks like bloated fleshy organs mashed together in some horrible amalgam come surging forward onto the deck and four whip-like tentacles emerge from the mass and begin whipping at everything in sight, including the draugr unfortunate enough to stand too close. One of them is grabbed by all four limbs and torn in four different directions, his limbs then tossed into the sea as they continue to lash...

Unmindful of the strange happenings of the port-side enemy ship as it is to his back, Renard has his hands full keeping the crewmen alive and kicking.  It was time to put phase one of his plan into action.  As he mumbles the words of the spell he swings his arms out and up, almost like he is surrendering but not quite.  His fingers are splayed wide and the chains around his neck glow slightly, just as with every other spell he has cast.

"What in the thousand hells!" Solomon calls out as the tendrils erupt from the ship.  He instinctively falls back.  Then he sets his jaw firmly in a look of determination.  "Pelor don't fail us now," he whispers to himself.  Whipping his head around to see where he is most needed, he moves to the middle of the ship, to take the most advantage of Pelor's blessing.

Once again he raises his left arm to the sky and the familiar pulse is emmitted, this time without curse or prayer.  The tentacles would have to wait.  It killed one of there own, so it was a 50/50 at this point.  The Draugr were 100% deadly.

He was itching to go toe to toe with the Captain in a test of weapon mettle; but he was doing more good with his area attacks.  Glory will be sung this day even if he isn't the one to fall the Captain.

He decides his axe was not quite doing the job he had hoped for this battle, so he redoubled his efforts inspiring the crew, now that he could get so many Sailors at once with it. Seeing the tentacles come shooting out of the one ship, Temnir rushes to the side of the ship and doing some quick thinking hopes that they are more susceptible to fire than the draugr were or else there were likely going to be some problems very soon in some of the closer sailors near futures.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Yx'raul continues his attack on any draugr that gets too close, once again opening wounds in the chest of his newest victim. Elona, however, is caught off guard by the tendrilsand misses with both of her dagger strikes at the target in front of her. "Gozreh have mercy on us!" Talin, continuing to be useless, takes out his crossbow, fires a bolt at one of the few draugr still on a boarding ladder, and misses spectacularly. With his failure, he turns back to the scorpion and decides the bigger the projectile, the easier it will be to hit something.

"What in the thousand hells!" Solomon calls out as he instinctively moves back from the tendrils. "Pelor don't fail us now," he prays grasping his holy symbol, hoping to get the rest of the draugr out of the way so they could focus on this new threat. Light erupting from him for the third time in quick succession, more than half the remaining draugr burst into sparks of light and disintegrate on the spot. "Fear not death or pain friends!  I will call for the god's aid to heal your wounds!  Strike now and fear not!"

The draugr captain, seeing Felicia and Yx'razul charges the duo and begins swinging with his sword at Felicia, sliding the blade clean through her arm before yanking it back and taking another swing at Yx'razul though the eidolon bats the captain's sword arm away with his tail. The captain looks around to see the crew of the Lifeboat rallying at Solomon's cry, those that were injured pressing through their injuries and those who were on the defensive take the fight to their opponents. Some of the crew on the side of the Leaking Lifeboat where the tentacles appeared take the opportunity to charge the remaining draugr on the opposite side of the ship rather than stand to and become possible targets. Felicia, not one to go down easily shows her mettle once again and as the regains her composure from the blow, she takes the captain's distractedness and runs with it, slashing once across the captain's midsection and letting her inertia spin her around and using the extra force to cut jagged gashes across his face and neck, dropping him to his knees on the deck.

Renard, surrounded by comrades, puts his plan into motion, casting a spell that accentuates his features, puts a rich tone to his voice, and a slight glow seems to glint off of his skin as he finishes the interesting display. Seeming to find his synergy with his companion, Kuldar breaks back into his inspiring the crew, speaking of their great deeds and how they will be sung about. Kilgur in the meantime had moved to take out a draugr who seemed to be closing in on the back of his master though Solomon had done away with it moments before. This being the case, the boar turns back and swings his head at the boarding draugr, catching the undead in the ribs and ripping him off of the ladder and onto the deck where it lays crumpled.

Broadarm looks on with satisfaction with his crew until he sees the tentacles that had emerged from the other ship. Finding his mouth hanging open, she shakes his head and rushes over the the rail closest to the tentacles with Temnir hot on his heels, "Reckon that thing doesn't mind fire like the rest o' em?" Temnir, skidding to a stop on at the rail lets out a sadistic laugh, "Well there's one way to find out!" and even while he speaks, a glowing red ball no bigger than a gold piece begins swirling in his hand and as he lifts it over his head it begins to grow exponentially until it's as big as a good sized boulder at which point he hurls it towards the draugr ship. Even from 30 feet away the heat from the fireball is easily felt as it flies through the air, burns its way through the mast like a cobweb, and lands at the base of the tentacles with a resounding 'KA-BOOM!' and a flash of orange light.

It seems they were indeed vulnerable to fire as two of the tentacle bases char and snap, sending them falling half onto the boat, half into the ocean. The other two are badly burned but still connected and now lashing faster than ever. Two of them attempt to grab on to nearby crew members though only one succeeds, lifting the poor man into the air and whipping him around before he is able to wriggle free and lands with a hard thud on the deck from a fall of at least 15 feet. The man is alive though badly injured and it looks like at least one of his legs are broken though whether from the tentacle's grasp or the fall is unclear.

The remaining draugr crew continue attacking though their impact has not lessened as several crew members take new wounds although one draugr loses his grip on his weapon, and just as well since he was aiming at the dying crew member.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

While the crewmen near him were taking their licks and getting in their hits Renard began to weave yet another spell, its effects enhanced by his previous spell in an attempt to weaken the Draugr nearest to him.  The sudden rush of crewmen from the other side of the ship gave him a reason to look back the way they came from.  For the first time he saw the strange tentacles just as they are engulfed in flames from Temnir's fireball.  Seems like everything's under control over there.. he thought nonchalantly to himself.

Solomon keeps his promise.  With his hand still in the air, he chants.  This time from the golden charm of Pelor waves of golden energy flow outwards, rather than emit a violent pulse.  The light washing over the crew helps close wounds and ease their pain.

"Captain!  I trust the sails still work?  The enemies no longer have a crew or captain aboard their vessles.  How about you get us out of here?!  Or at least manuver us so we are no longer sandwiched between these damned ships!"

Suddenly Raznik's face contorts into a mask of fear, the madness leaving his eyes. Looking around himself in apparent surprise, he pauses a moment before springing into action, casting a spell and stepping in to touch Yx'raul, whose maw begins to fill with electricity, bolts arcing between its teeth.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Spying a new target across of the ship, Yx'razul charges, tail lashing, giving him a dangerous looking, serpent-like swagger as he moves. Watching his eidolon cross the ship, Raznik grins as he approaches the dying sailor, "How about a meal Yx'raul? That patheti-NO!" As if a lightswitch had been flipped, Raznik's eyes go from furrowed in malicious pleasure to wide-eyed with fear and anxiety. Feeling a bit lightheaded he pauses for a second and Yx'razul spares him a look and a low growl that snaps him out of his reverie. Hustling over to the creature, Raznik las his hands on the beat's shoulder who's mouth begins to fill with arcing electricity. Wasting no time with his new ability, Yx'razul jumps into action against the draugr, effortlessly ripping its limbs from its torso and causing serious electrical burns to appear as the undead crumples to the deck where the eidolon continues to rip and tear.

Tralin and Plume both scan the horizon but feel that their talents are a bit unnecessary at this point and spend their time looking for any new threats, mostly keeping an eye on the second ship should any scary business happen with it as well. Elona on the other hand takes matters into her own hands. With the nearby draugr sent back to their graves, the kicks one off of the scorpion and wheels it around to face the writing and slightly crispy tentacles, firing the still loaded bolt, skewering one of the remaining tentacles about halfway through.

Solomon employs his power one again, this time for healing purposes, closing the wounds of the nearby sailors while looking towards the stern of the ship. "Captain!  I trust the sails still work?  The enemies no longer have a crew or captain aboard their vessles.  How about you get us out of here?!  Or at least manuver us so we are no longer sandwiched between these damned ships!" Broadarm nods and shuffles over to the wheel and calls out to the crew, "Any o' you not dyin or fighting, get them sails unfurled! It's time we be getting the hell out o' 'ere!" A handful of the crewmen hop to get the ship ready to move as the rest attempt to finish off the last 3 draugr near them and being rather successful.

Kuldar, having seen the crewman take his fall from the grasp of the tentacle moves closer to the downed man, "Gonna hafta meet me half-way their lad! Try moving just a wee bit closer." The sailor, though in considerable pain, manages to crawl a few feet to meet him as the bard's healing magic doesn't fully repair his leg, but sets the bone and at least numbs the pain enough for the man to stand on his own two feet, albeit a bit shakily. Kilgur, faced with the final draugr attempts to finish it but gets his tusk caught in some of the undead's ragged clothing and armor and doesn't get any real purchase to speak of. Felicia however, moving to his aid, swiped the undead across the face, killing it and sending its body into the water below.

Temnir aims one final spell at the remaining tentacles and as he points his ringed finger at the lashing mass of flesh, three purple skulls shoot out from his fingertip and slam into it's side, causing it to write in a death throw, slamming into the mast of the ship and breaking it in two before falling to the deck, motionless. The rest of the mass begins to decay quickly a the last tentacle falls and the undead ship visibly begins to sink. "Let's get the hell out of 'ere!" Broadarm shouts as the Leaking Lifeboat begins to make way.

Combat is effectively over. Congrats!

Solomon asks one of the crew men to light him a torch.  He then retrieves a bottle of oil and tosses is across to the remaining ship, so that it shatters mid-deck, near the mast.  With no crew left to extinquish the flames, the ship would slowly burn, lest the tentacles hidden within were smarter than they looked.

Now we're done with combat ;)

Solomon searches the ship, curious about the health of the crew.  If any were in immediate danger of dying he would heal them with his last blessing of the day; which causes the golden charm on his wrist to glow white hot.  He hisses, pulls it off, and rubs the burn around his wrist.  "Thank you, Pelor."  He had never before called upon Pelor's blessings so many times in one day.  It was nice to know where one's limits were.

He let out a heavy sigh of relief, this would make a grand tale. Once everything was sorted out, he'd take his time to heal anyone else up unless Solomon or Renard had any more of those healing lights left.

Sorry, all out of mass heals from me.

As Solomon made his rounds he noticed the troubled Raznik.  "You fought bravely from the heart my friend.  Though some of the things you were saying made us question the sanity of your mind.  You must sort out your troubles before you become a risk to us all, yes?"  His words seemed harsh, especially in Raznik's moment of weakness.  "My friend," he adds, patting Raznik on the shoulder.  Solomon cared for those he called friends, but he did not coddle them.  With the crew being seen too, Solomon disappears below deck to check on Cho'kobo.

As the Leaking Lifeboat pulls away from the two ship, only the mine in tact mast becomes visible above the water of the one and as the other becomes lost in the fog, the orange and red glow of fire fills the air as well as a horrible smell of rotting flesh though it fades with distance as does the thicker fog though visibility is still only half a mile or so. Still aboard the ship are a handful of the draugr crewmen as well as the captain of one of the vessels who isn't quite dead yet though is on the verge of slipping back to the grave. The crew of the Lifeboat had set about to bringing the wounded the the base of the main mast for healing, making the ship ready for sailing again, and a few had the unfortunate duty of stripping the undead of valuables and dumping the bodies overboard. "Oy cap'n! What ya want us t' do with this one?" One of the surly dwarves decimates calls out, standing a safe distance away from the downed captain. Broada's brow furrows characteristically and he looks to some of the neater party members, "I say cut 'is throat n' send 'im t' the seabed. Do ye 'ave any use fer 'im?"

"If anyone else is in need of healing now's the time to let me know.  I won't have anyone dying on us now that we're out of that mess."  If more than one person steps forward for healing he will channel some healing energy for them.  If just one person comes forward he'll toss out a cure moderate/light wounds.  What he is more interested in, however, is the Draugr who are still kicking.  He steps forward to stop anyone from killing them outright, addressing the gathering group of sailors, "If we have any questions for them now's a good time for an interrogation.  Those last two spells I cast will do some good in loosening their tongues at least.  Assuming they CAN talk..."  To those Draugr still kicking Renard would look something like a fierce and formidable archon with a glowing aura of good around him.

At Renards declaration of healing, a small herd of the sailors hobble over sporting cuts, swollen eyes, and other, smaller injuries from the fight and are relieved to receive the healing ministrations. All but the most onjured among them have their wounds fully closes and many clasp Renard on the shoulder or give hom other well wishes as do they to Solomon before he goes to take care of business with Broadarm and Temnir. Broadarm nods at Solomon and looks expectantly at Temnir to deal with the draugr captain, the look plain on his face that he wants the last undead off his ship as quickly as possible. By all signs, he has had enough of this undead business and will be half to be done with it.

Temnir knows the truth in Solomon's words as he goes over the spells he still has left to him in his head finding that they number fewer than he would like going up agains who knew what. "I don't like it, but you're right. A couple of hours inland will do the trick. Far enough from the shore but not too close to Heldenburg to attract the spill over of undead that are likely to still be in the area. Let's get to it then." He swings over the railing of the and into the ship and into the lifeboat as a thought occurs to him. Turning to the captain, "Your ship is named the Leaking Lifeboat...this isn't what it's referring to is it?" as he looks down into the small boat he is now standing in.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Broadarm scoffs, "Luckily fer you lot, no. It was the lifeboat that we used t' bring me out t' this ship the day I bought 'er. Almost sank before we could tie it off and scramble up the rope ladder onto the deck. This one'll serve ye well." The captain gives a quick neutral two finger salute and heads back to the wheel to talk with Elona about their next projected course.

Over the next hour and a half, the lifeboat travels from the ship to the shore twice, once with Raznik, Renard, Felicia, and Temnir and once with Kuldar, Kilgur, Solomon, and Cho'kobo. The latter takes a little longer as the nervousness of the animals makes keeping the boat steady more difficult than with willing passengers. Eventually though, the entire part is offloaded with their supplies as well as a bag of rations from the captain's personal stores and the two crew members wave you off as they push off once again and row back to the Leaking Lifeboat. The beach here is short and rocky and leads immediately to a steep hill that levels off quickly and heads inland. The seemingly perpetual fog is still present as you look around your surroundings. There are a few outcroppings of rock to the south but to the west and north, all you can see for a few hundred feet is grassy knolls, free of much shrubbery.

"So in what direction is this Heldenburg?"  His question seemed to be directed towards Temnir more than anyone else.

Temnir scratches the back of his, bring to get his bearings. "Well..." he says in an unsure voice, "assuming the good captain dropped us off relatively level to the town's location, it should be due west. Let us hope that we find some sort of road or marker along the way though or else we may be stuck wandering in this fog for some time until it clears though it was here last time I was as well." The fog seemed to be a permanent fixture in the area from how thick and pervasive it was. With any luck though, it would clear long enough for them to find a high point to look out on the landscape in the distance.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

"Very well then.  Though we will not journey too close, we should at least start heading that direction.  If we are lucky we'll find a defensible location shielded enough to hide a warming fire."

As Solomon moves about saddling his mount and checking to make sure his gear is secure and packed well enough for travel he finds a moment to approach Felicia.  "I trust your arm is doing well?  That is twice I've seen you spill your own blood on the battlefield."  He wanted to tell her to be more careful but knew that wasn't going to happen and would only cause her to give him a look of contempt.  He tried to choose his next words a bit more wisely, "Try to rein in your passion, and don't forget you have allies you can rely on now."

Though she may not have noticed, he did his best to make sure she had been within healing range during the fight aboard the Leaking Lifeboat.

He finally mounted the axe beak.  He gave Raznik a glance, not quite sure how to approach that particular problem yet.  "Everyone ready to move out?"

Holding his silence at Kildur's comment, Raznik nods to Soloman, taking up the rear of the group, keeping a certain distance between himself and the rest.

Temnir figs his cloak out of his backpack and fastens it to himself, drawing the hood to covet most of his already disguise features. Shouldering his pack, he looks to Solomon, "Let's get out of here, shall we?" and heads off after the paladin and his mount by a few yards, keeping relatively silent unless addressed directly.

"I can't be anything but what I am Solomon. However, I don't like having my own blood spilled any more than anyone else does....And thank's for the healing. You're a handy guy to have around in a fight. Now lets get going and see if we can find a good campsite.", Felicia answers back to Solomon. She walks along with the group, keeping her eyes open for any threats and a good campsite.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Renard finds himself among the middle of the group, not having a mount of his own.  He doesn't want to interrupt any ongoing conversations, but when speaking of the attack he doesn't hesitate to interject his own point of view, "With both of us on healing duty, Solomon, I think we can handle quite a bit more than that last fight.  Not that I have any desire to test our limits, of course.  I'm not much of a warrior, however, so if you prefer to take part in combat then rest assured that nobody's going to die on my watch."  It was simple strategy, he thought.  Play to your strengths, get someone else to cover for your weaknesses.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

The search for a camp sight isn't a very lengthy one. A bit under two hours into the trek, the group comes onto a rather large outcropping of rocks as has become common as they make their way inland. The way that the rocks are positioned against each other form somewhat of a pyramid shape with only three small openings into a larger middle area with one of the openings being about 10 feet off the ground as there is another rock at its base. The two clear openings lead north east and south east while the raised one leads directly west towards Heldenburg. It's not quite dark by the time they reach the outcropping though it's hard to tell as the fog still remains and puts a damper on the light from the sun.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Temnir eyes the outcropping carefully before approaching it. "Assuming there's nothing already living inside of it, I suppose it would make a good enough shelter for the night. I just get the feeling there will be a sharp rock somewhere uncomfortable when I lie down. The earth and I never agree on sleeping arrangements," he mutters partly to himself before looking to Solomon who had seemed to appoint himself as the leader of the group as of late. Temnir didn't particularly mind even if they were here at his behest. He had never had the penchant for leading and in fact preferred to remain in the shadows and far away from the idle droll of conversation with the common folk. Most times it just led to annoyance and alienation so he tried to avoid it all together where possible.

Following the others into the shelter, Raznik lays out his bedroll separately from the others, keeping his distance. He takes a seat and opens up another pack of rations and setting to eating.

Felicia follows the others into the 'campsite' and picks out a spot near a 'wall' to lay out her bedroll. She lays her bow beside it, then speak a soft word and her outfit once more shift about and changes color. She shipboard garb is gone and once more by a robed outfit as she wore in the desert. This time however it's coloring is a mottling of various dark greys.

"That's comforting.  So I'm curious...which of the gods is it that answers your prayers and gifts you with the divine touch?"  Solomon's golden sun charm-bracelet betrayed his alligence to Pelor.  Those that have had a chance to travel with him may have noticed he tends to get up at sunrise and pray to the east.
