Re: The Alchemist's Lab

Eyeballing the garments which he hopes to claim for his own if they fit, Ben managed to stay on task, checking the chest for traps. If it appears to be trap free, he will attempt to unlock the lock.

Re: The Alchemist's Lab

Wandering suspiciously around the alchemists lab, Eagle is filled with a wave of revulsion, especially when he spies the robes of Melora that have obviously been worn and desecrated by the mongrelman. Picking the robes of the wall with his spear, Eagle voices his opinion. 'I would destroy this whole lab if it were up to me - nothing but abominations against nature seem to come from it. But especially these robes I will burn.' He then looks around for some kind of brazier or fireplace where he can set fire to the robes safely.

"I'll help you, Eagle," Norion said, casting a long, suspicious look about the room. "There's nothing good that can come of any of this. Save the coin, of course,"

Saliq hesitates at Eagle's words. "Perhaps... and I agree the clerical garments should be destroyed in such a way but some amongst them may be magical. I think Sularia and myself should look them over just in case before consigning them to flame."

The Illusionist turns and gestures at the clay idol. "A familiar face... maw... whatever. I think we should deliver it to the temples or maybe the druid's circle and see what they make of it."

"Well said. You pilferers find what you can and we'll burn the rest as a lesson to any who may come after."
Duvall digs into his backpack and pulls out two vials of oil. He stops and then looks up at Eagle. "Of course, we could just throw it all into the maw. What do you think?"

Re: The Alchemist's Lab

Ben does not detect any traps, however he does notice a strange, black oily substance around the wooden chest. The oil seems to have seeped through the wood, for the wood too is darkly stained near its bottom.

The lock does not appear like it will be difficult to pick and Ben is reasonably certain he can accomplish the task if he wishes.

Dropping into a push-up like position, Ben lowers himself down to sniff the fluid, without touching it.

The liquid smells a bit like whale's oil and sulphur.

While kneeling down to sniff the oil, Ben hears the faint sound of whining coming from within the locked chest.

"I...I think..." Ben says, rocking back onto his knees, "that there might be an injured animal inside here. If that stuff on the ground is it's blood, however, I am not sure it is anything 'normal, if'n you catch my drift. Open it?" he as of the others.

Saliq keeps his hand on the Moonblade but nods his assent. "Open it. Just because it is in this foul place does not make it evil. Even the desert can be home to a few blooms."

"It's not the place, but the stench... though I guess I'm not one to be talking..."

He bends his efforts to unlocking the lock, though Ben will step back and let someone else open it if it doesn't spring open of it's own accord.

Re: The Alchemist's Lab

Ben easily picks the lock and then steps back as Duvall opens the lid...

For but a brief moment, two flickering amber eyes appear in the darkened space of the chest's interior, followed by a spindly purple-gray hand that, quick-as-lightning, thrusts for the narrow opening!

Ben skuttled back into a corner, eyes agog at the bizarre looking creature.

Why was it being kept in that chest? he wondered, certain he would never know the answer...

Re: The Alchemist's Lab

Placing her foot on the lid to prevent it from opening enough to let the critter out, she only pressed enough down to pin the small hand but not to hurt it, "It could be a familiar or some other summoned being. If we keep it in the chest, we should still be able to converse with it or take it back to trade it for a large sum."

Sularia Alariel rolled 5 using 1d6+1. Init

A Boggle Unbound Round 2

A sharp, but muffled cry of anguish is heard within the chest as Duvall slams down the lid on the creature's hand. The fingers recoil into  fist briefly and then fan out wide as a violet nimbus forms around the spindly hand. Then, the nimbus flashes jet black, a darkness which no light can penetrate.

The hand disappears. The darkness disappears. The chest falls shut. The ground around the chest is now covered in a thin layer of dark oil.

A disembodied gleeful cackle echoes through the room.

Then...A dark portal appears above the bed pallet and a strange, loping three foot tall vaguely humanoid creature steps through the inky darkness onto the bed. A Boggle!

The dark portal disappears and the Boggle sweeps its large bulbous head over the room in a mind-defying display of flexibility, its rubbery neck seemingly able to contort at will. The creature hunches over on all fours, its loping arms and legs poised to vault at a moments notice.
