Re: A Mote in the Eye...

"Our Soviet adversaries would agree with you Ossy." Said the Inhuman.

"In ancient times we would have been called Gods .. or demons." The Inhuman said knowing which he would have been.

"Our 'host' is extremely powerful. I have no doubt some have and would regard him as a God. So I have I wonder what he has in mind for us now."

"Of course the white man calls a powerful African god a demon," Onyx says.

This does not sound like it is directed at anyone, more like he was thinking out loud.

Eddy sat nearby, listening.
He was smashed up about as much as anyone had seen him so far; his black fur slick and matted with blood.

The godling had not seen fit to send him back for the last minute or so of the battle.

Benieth the fur, the CRIT was slowly starting to knit back together the deep katar lacerations and burns, but Eddy looked as bad as the rest of them.

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

The Inhuman decided to ignore Onyx's comment. Since the integration of the military he had worked alongside negro soldiers, and he knew that some had become quite bitter in the face of the suffocating racism they faced every day. Since he change, Muldoon understood it better.

He had considered returning to his human form, but looking around the Inhuman knew he was doing as well as any of his teammates, and if another fight broke out, they would need him at his toughest.

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

The team feels like there has been a presence with them, listening to their words. This is confirmed as the voice once again makes an appearance in their minds; "God, Demon, Godling....perhaps I once may have referred to myself as such, millennia ago. My time here has allowed me to see and learn much, including the fact that Ra, he who created me, is no more a God than I am. He is/was an alien being of surpassing intelligence and foresight. I was created to watch and learn of the humans that populate this world, after I was transformed. The man of rubber has the right of it, you all would have been considered gods or demons back when I first became what I am. However over the millennia the advances both in technology and human knowledge have allowed those with open minds to realize that some are gifted with gifts beyond the human norm. Anyhow, my apologies for interjecting, we can speak more in person when you are all ready."

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

Vos lay there, dejected, while her body knit back together at impossible speed.  She had her eyes closed, ruminating on her failures, as Onyx spoke, and Poco, and Muldoon.  She thought of quips to reply with, but didn't have the heart.

But then Ramesses chimed in like a bloody alarm clock and made his commentary.

"That's me,"
she said.  "Vosper, goddess of inaccuracy and bleeding. Can someone at least get me a sacrificial pint?"

It would be at least an hour before she was fully rested, but she was healing at a fantastic rate, and was - despite her despondancy - eager to hear what this had all been for.

OOC: or we could skip ahead. ;)

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

"If you don't mind me askin' the rubber man wants to know ready for what?" The Inhuman asked. As for the comment it was largely true. The scientists who had studied his body said that on a molecular level his body was very similar to rubber. Something to do with carbon and hydrogen molecules. It was not exacly clear how it worked by when he transformed into the Inhuman, his body absorbed his surrounding and used the available molecules to create mass. The molecules, including some of those from his own body were transformed into something similar to rubber.

But the truth was no one really understood what he had become. Muldoon had originally been part of the Ultimate Soldier program which had granted him immense strength. But it was when he had fallen into enemy hands and had been subjected to torturous and seemingly endless experiments and the hands of a former Nazi scientist that the transformation to his current state occurred.

It had spelled the end of the line for the Nazi scientist when Muldoon had figured out how to control his transformation long enough to escape. Muldoon had smashed the place into smithereens and had done worse than that to the scientist. The laboratory was left a burning hole, and sadly the only thing Muldoon really knew about it was the name of the project, Projekt Unmenschlichkeit, Project Inhumanity and thus the Inhuman was born.

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

Moments after Nightmare and Onyx make their verbal decisions another familiar-looking portal appears before the group. This time the other side appears very dim, especially with the sun overhead, but flickering lights can be seen here and there within the portal. There is a sense of heaviness in the air as Ramesses waits to see who will enter his portal...

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

The Inhuman looked over at his teammates. They were badly wounded and if things went wrong they came into their host's presence they might not survive. He was just about to try and talk his teammates into taking a bit more time before rushing into the unknown, when Ramesses arrived and opened a portal to transport them to that very mysterious place.

In far better condition and more likely to be able to deal with possible threats on the other side, the Inhuman stepped forward.

"I'll be first." The Inhuman said, and then without further ado, stepped into the unknown. It felt a little bit like the first time he jumped from a perfectly good plane.

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

"Ungh...  I suppose I'm ready, yes."

When the portal appeared, Inhuman went boldly first.

Yes he was likely the toughest, but he hadn't considered that he was also the heaviest and could hurt the team if blown backwards.  Like a bowling ball.

Best to get that thought out of his head, and focus on being a team player.  This was a new tactic, but Osc had been learning.  After all, that was what he did best.

He floated into his place in the line forming, floated towards the portal.

Actually, Osc agreed with Ramses.  Not only that, but Osc understood that being from another perspective, Ramses hadn't had much of a way to judge who should obtain this object -- so why not combat?  In addition to seeing who was the more powerful, and what each teams' abilities were, Ramses could get a sense of the morality (or lack thereof) on each team.

At least, that's how Oscillator assumed a rational Ramses might process the information.  The assumption was, however, that Ramses was rational -- which remained to be seen.

He confides to the nearest teammate, "I find teleportation and dimensional jumping to be quite exhilarating -- it pushes against all known scientific theories to date."

Amaranth shrugs her shoulders and follows her team. She figures that if Ramesses wanted to kill off the team he could have done so with his teleportation or perhaps more firebirds. Plus, she also likes a mystery and this whole thing with the all-seeing eye is definitely that. She steps through the portal with the others...

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

As each person steps through the gate they go from blinding desert sun to an overall dimly-lit chamber with perfect climate control (although it feels cold after coming from the desert). Towards the rear of the chamber there is a hawk-headed being dressed in ancient Egyptian finery. This being in encased in a crystal sarcophagus and there are tubes and cables attached to him. This sarcophagus is surrounded by a pyramid-shaped energy field, just visible to the naked eye. The being, who must be Ramesses, raises one hand in greeting as people's eyes adjust to the dimmer lighting.

Arranged around the chamber is what looks like huge crystal monoliths traced with silver and golden metals as well as lights which flicker on and off in places. Each monolith has several areas on it that show different scenes, looking much like some type of monitor. Each screen cycles through a number of different images with some level of speed but glancing at them the team sees various military bases, scenes from what appears to be different outdoor areas on earth, individual people (of which people do recognize President Johnson as well as First Secretary Khrushchev), and places around the world (the White House and the Kremlin are observed as well as the interior of Congress and the Politburo). It dawns quickly on the team that this obviously advanced technology is the "all-seeing eye" that both the team and the Soviets were sent to acquire. It also dawns on the team that however this is all interconnected, it is NOT even vaguely portable.

Ramesses's sarcophagus is apparently on some kind of mechanism because with movements of his hands he can cause it to turn, presumably 360 degrees. With burning golden eyes he watches the team assemble and moments later his voice echoes in everyone's head; "Welcome all of you with SMITE! I congratulate you all on defeating the Soviet aggressors. To speak what you must each be thinking, yes this is the 'all-seeing eye'. Here I have spent the last 4000 years observing humanity and all it has done. This can all wait however, many of you are damaged almost to death and I stated I could assist with that." He does something  with one hand and a part of the floor near the energy field opens up, another crystal sarcophagus rising up into the chamber. This sarcophagus looks to have the space a normal one would have, not the oversized and ornate one he resides in. Gesturing to the smaller sarcophagus his voice comes into everyone's head again; "Any of you who are wounded can step inside this Sun Chamber and I can provide healing of all your wounds. Whichever of you wishes to be first please step up and being admitted within." He waits patiently to see who from the team is first to step forward...

"I'd offer to go first, but I am guessin' a couple of the others have more of a need for it." The Inhuman said.

It was not what was expected but it was indeed impressive. For all the CIA and KGB did to know what was happening in the world, these array of screens appeared to be their match. It was likely they had few if any secrets from this being. For a man with a lot of secrets like Muldoon, that idea was a bit off putting.

Looking around at the screens. "Can you get the Yankee game in on this thing?"

"I'll volunteer.  Thank you.  I'd be interested to know if you might summarize how it works...?"

Oscillator doesn't actually seek to be the guinea pig, but if the casket is a trap, he would be uniquely able to escape the fastest by vibrating out.  And as a scientist, he's very curious as to how the chamber works.

Once proven safe, then Vosper could go, or Poco, or whoever wanted.

Then again, he's infinitely curious about the being and it's origins as well.
"4000 years?  And with this level of technology?  Are you ... from Earth?"

Re: A Mote in the Eye...

As Oscillator approaches the Sun Chamber it splits open so he can enter it. As he does so Ramesses's voice echoes once again in everyone's head; "Yes, 4000 years. *I* am from Earth but my father was not, he made me what I am and provided all this to support me. As far as how it works it amplifies one of my talents so that cell structure can be repaired and regenerated on a massive level. Just so you know, it will be uncomfortable." Finishing his statement he manipulates something within his sarcophagus and the one Oscillator is in closes. Moments later it glows with a brilliant golden light and Oscillator feels a very uncomfortable burning sensation causing him to grit his teeth. The seconds tick by and everywhere he is wounded burns noticeably but when it finishes all of his wounds are completely healed with not even a scar to show.

The Sun Chamber splits open to release Oscillator who is now unwounded but covered in a sheen of sweat from the sensation. Ramesses speaks again in everyone's mind; "I apologize for the discomfort, but as you can see you are fully healed. The pain is a part of the process of how the healing works. Who is next to have their wounds treated?"

"You sure you don't want some of this man's loving in her veins?"

But if Vosper was sure, Eddy claimed the next go-round.
