Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

Traveller shotguns are typically gas-operated and semi-auto, fed from detachable 10-round magazines. (In The Traveller Book these are detachable underbarrel tube magazines, I assume they are instead fed by 10-round detachable box magazines.) As a semi-auto weapon they can be panic-fired.

The expedition shotguns are pump-action, with non-detachable 10-round tube magazines. The only difference is a longer reloading time and they cannot be panic-fired.

To give some context, members of Shukhunaar's breakaway tribe is aware of how dangerous vacuum is and that in many outlying modules life support has broken down and they are too cold or (sometimes) too hot, or gravity is non-function.  The asteroid is under spin so without the effects of artificial gravity objects will naturally settle on the direction of the most "outside" wall at .01 gravities due to Coriolis force. The main transit tubes are not under gravity so jumping down them can be tricky because your end target will move from where you expect it will be due to the Coriolis effect. (This is why they made grav scooters, which compensate for this effect by effectively negating it and compensating for it.) Also, shooting at long ranges has a penalty for this reason.

In reply to Dr. Talia McKenzie (msg # 906):

Thanks, I see that! That's fair and I'll get to moving the story forward tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

I have a relatively slow posting rate, sorry about that. But I don't mind being prompted and if you'd like to PM or make a post to that effect, please go ahead.

I’m running a Traveller game too - Bloodspace, I’m looking for players and I post daily. GMs should post at least 3 times a week.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

The pressures of real life hit everyone, GM & player alike. I read RPoL daily (at least) but post when I have something to say. Or to ask...

You say your Traveller game is recruiting, Talia. What is it about?

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

Although you are avoiding the "caravan" I'd still like to have your direct character reactions, please. (As a rule I wait until players have had a reasonable chance to react to events as I think that's fair.)

I hosed Winblows 10, my computer guy is running a diagnostic and transferring files from a failed drive. He'll be taking the computer with him tonight when he comes back and hopefully repairing it.

I will be back don't worry. A day or two maybe.

Amusingly, in The Traveller Book and Book 3 "torch" actually is the word used for flashlight.

It's the English way of saying flashlight. They've been calling them torches for 80 years at least.

It confused the heck out of me when reading "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" as a kid. I was like, "in England in WW2 they let their kids use burning torches for light? Whoa...!"

In reply to Dr. Talia McKenzie (msg # 922):

Whoops! I forgot it's been a long while since the players who were here were in this situation, and a couple players have joined.

So far, the only way you found to get to the interior agricultural spaces was the freight elevator, and a couple emergency stairs to either side of the freight. I'll post a helpful reminder as your PCs would likely remember this information. Sorry!

For the next week I'll be on the road, then at a wedding, then returning. So I won't be doing a lot of checking on the game. I'll post if I can! (As well, I am having some issues transferrin my files to my tablet so that could be a problem.)

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts II

In reply to Linus Spruance (msg # 927):

Thanks for the kind words! We arrived in Sudbury, a mining city and the world nickel capital. The slag heaps from the nickel ore smelters were so desolate and extensive they were used to train astronauts for the moon landings. (My dad grew up a hundred miles away downwind and by the late 50s they were watching as yearly the thick black sulphur smoke was getting closer and closer every year.) Since 1951 home of the world's largest replica nickel coin. We went to see it today and yep, it's huge and looks like a 1951 Canadian nickel. There are not many things in life that live up to the billing but man, this is one!

Air Canada had us booked on the wrong flight. Every confirmation we had said we'd been moved from the 0700 flight to the 0900 flight as we asked. But nope, they said we were supposed to be on the 7am flight and so we were screwed as it was leaving not long after we arrived. So the desk attendants worked their magic and got us all on the 9am flight and even seated together, per their family seating policy. So all in all a win!
