No problem, you're only going into a massive swamp. That probably won't have any effect whatsoever on reliability of a gas or recoil-operated weapon.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts I

In reply to Thomas Walker (msg #29):

Group,

Okay, we're almost ready!

1) Still need gear lists for Neva and Linus. Thomas is in progress. Neva just found out she has dough, I can make a suggestion.
2) Still need a detailed description/background for Thomas. At least a couple paragraphs, please.
3) I listed IR NVgs, you can also go for Thermal Imaging NVGs for the same price.

Shotguns: as a hunting, law enforcement and military weapon, shotguns have a wide variety. Specify if your shotgun is 1) pump or semi-auto (which can have also have a pump action), 2) removable 6-shot box magazine or attached 10-shot cylindrical magazine. Semi-Auto and/or box magazines tend to be less reliable.

If not specified I will assume your shotgun is the "Remington 1100", a standard semi-auto, 10-round cylinder-fed version produced by Frontiers Industries.

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts I

Group,

Don't forget to calculate weights. Not that you'll be walking or anything. Ha ha!

All characters can carry their STR in kilograms (kg). Everyone can carry double their STR in kilos at effective -1 to STR/DEX/END. Ex-military/outdoor types can carry triple STR in kilos at -2 to STR/DEX/END.

              STR STRx2 STRx3
Neva: 10kg 20kg N/A
Linus: 8kg 16kg N/A
Thomas: 8kg 16kg 32kg
Ken: 6kg 12kg 24kg

Re: OOC: Off-Topic Posts I

In reply to Ken Jenkins (msg #42):

Character description:
Thomas Walker, or Thomas to his friends, is a sun and wind burnt outdoorsman.  He's frequently seen with an unlit cigar in his mouth, or going over his rifles.

He's pushing 6 feet tall, and has a stance that comes from long hours in the saddle.

He's dressed in tall brown boots, with khaki pants tucked into the tops.  He's wearing a white shirt, that's seen better days, it's stained with sweat and trail dust, and he wears a khaki vest over it.  On his chest, the vest has 10 rounds for his rifle, in loops, and he rotates them through his rifle, so they don't 'go bad.'  His broad-brimmed hat is also the color of dust, and he's rarely seen without it.  In the place of a pistol, he wears a large, coffin-handled bowie knife, that he could shave with, if he felt like it.  In accomodating weather he wears a heavy canvas bush jacket, which looks like a civilian version of the M-65 field jacket, with the exception that it has a heavy leather pad on his right shoulder, to reduce the abuse of his shoulder when he's shooting.

When he's travelling, or on his way to either the range or to do a little hunting, he carries his rifle and his shotgun in a leather case, lined with sheepskin.  He'll tell you that he shot the sheep that the case was made from.  Both the rifle and the shotgun have leather slings, which have come from animals he's kiled in the past, and there are little trinkets at the points where the slings attach to the rifles.

What he doesn't talk about is the times he's worked with local law enforcement to hunt down dangerous criminals.

Hawk: Good description, need a history!

Matt: Bayonet for a shotgun? What is this, the bleedin' Great War? Yeah, Bayonets are Cr10!

Megan: Need Linus's gear list! Please post to Post-Its (Player Reference) thread. It should be open for player posting.

Assuming Neva is cool with the suggested gear we're about ready to go! In case I am being too subtle, my goal is to get moving ASAP. We can go with the suggested opening ("Job Offer") in the Reference section which kind of glosses over the details.

How soon do you want the history?  I have fish fry at the firehouse tomorrow night to run [I do clean up, and we don't get done until 2100 at the earliest], and Saturday I'm doing a run of Pembridge helmets through a CinC plasma cutter, I hope.

Heh.  I am cool with the suggested because I hate shopping for my characters.  Appreciate your suggestions on it.  Besides if I need something than I can blame somebody else? (grins)

Wished I had that option today at work.  It was bossman coming down on me and another worker.  semi deserved it.  Will have to not be so nice at work for a bit I guess.

Hawk: less yakkin' more history, man! Love that sexy firefighter talk. I thought firefighters were chronically underemployed? At least they seem to be, here.

Bonni: yes, blame me! Right now I'm working from home, doing research. The commute is great but someone keeps stealing my lunch out of the fridge. I suspect either my wife, or one of the cats, I have yet to narrow down which.

Well, it works like this:  If you have a crisis, you need people to do the job.  When there's no crisis, you still have to have people around, because otherwise you won't have the people to do the job when you need them.  And when you need them, you need them.

So they train and should be doing building inspections, so they know the buildings around them.  And they stay at the firehouse, if they can.

It's like being a computer repair guy.  I know my day is going well if I can sit on my butt all day and not have to fix anything.

Just so... About 10 years ago, some of our local firefighters wanted to learn how to write webpages. So I went to the firehouse one afternoon a week to teach, on the understanding that if the bell went, class was out!
