Within the Asteroid
In reply to Linus Spruance (msg # 4):
The three of them cross-checked each others' gear, Vacc Suit seals and pressure, and PLSS function/air supply. All systems were in the green. The airlock cycled, letting them out into the bottom of the crater.
The giant asteroid was spinning at a fairly rapid rate, presumably to provide centrifugal force for simulating gravity in the interior compartments as an alternative to grav plate technology. That meant that the cutter needed to be anchored lest it drift into the rear wall of the crater. As well, the Inquisitor needed to make regular boosts from time to time for station-keeping purposes to keep above the rim of the crater, lest it fail to keep up and drop down out of sight as the mothership rotated.
Working together, the three anchored the cutter using lines secured to explosive bolts. Once that was accomplished they also set guide lines from the airlock to the surface (although due to the spin it seemed more like they were hanging beneath the asteroid).
