Time to move on I think!

Amazingly you've managed to collect all three trinkets so I can move straight on to the scene at Brion's Bluff if people like. :)

Eh, no, not the charm. :D

think carefully:

quote:
What am I?

My belly is round
And bound with iron bonds;
What I carry always raises a cheer.
Murder have I not done;
Stolen not; cheated not;
Yet a peg is beaten into my head

Where am I?

My coat is green and I can speak
Of several things, but mostly cheek.
In such a prison I am set
That has more loopholes than a net.

This sounds like a barrel/keg of Beer

Sounds like the Tower to me, what color is it anyhow.

Exactly... lucky you were given one earlier:

The Gamesmaster:
The youth who'd been running the shell game looked at Elstarir, then and Mannath and very reluctanly sat back down. Looking rather pale he asked the tavern in general:<i><Serif>"Uh... would anyone like a second go?"

Meanwhile his comrade in arms seems even happier to oblige, babbling profuse apologies to the barmaid and reaching for his purse with his free arm.  The barmaid let him go and turned a pleased but mystified expression to Vithrain.

After explanations (which take a long time - half orcs are not that fast on the uptake) the barmaid walks over to speak with the innkeeper. She returns to your table a moment later, smiling. "Asculf decided to give you something for spotting those cheats; how does a keg of dwarven ale sound? Shipped all the way Port Blacksand just yesterday."

So not the Tower, but rather the Parrot in a Cage Inn.  Though I know not what the 'loophole' reference kicks in in.  Loopholes are the holes in a defensive stronghold that you shoot arrows out of.  Thus my thought it was the Tower.  Are also used as jails also.  Like the Tower of London.

Congratulations on finishing Act 1 all.  I'll hand out XP shortly (along with an explanation what you can spend it on) and of course begin Act 2.

I should warn you you that the next part of the story will take you out of the city so if anyone has something they have to take care off I'll assume a brief timeskip between leaving the school and going to Brion's Bluff.

Re: Out of Character Chat

Okay I've posted a thread for experience points and what you can buy here (link to a message in this game). I'll get to the actual experience points giving out in a moment.

I'm trying to bring everyone's characters into line with the more advanced rules rather than the stripped down hybrid we've been playing with, which mostly means giving you special skills your characters always had but never used.

Elstarir: Add the following Special Skills to your character sheet with 1 point in each: Armour, Dodge, Forest Lore, Hunting, Languages: Elvish.

Mannath: Add the following Special Skills to your character sheet with 1 point in each: Armour, City Lore: Port Blacksand, Dodge, Lock Picking, World Lore.

Tarrian: Add the following Special Skills to your character sheet with 1 point in each: Armour, Dodge, Hunting, Plains Lore, Religion Lore.

Vithrain: Add the following Special Skills to your character sheet with 1 point in each: Forest Lore, Language: Elvish, Magic: Minor, Religion Lore, Second Sight..

Some of these Special Skills are self explanatory, but to clarify:

Armour: Allows you to wear armour without penalty.  The higher your Armour Special Skill the higher value armour you can wear.

City Lore: Is knowledge of one particular city - Port Blacksand or Kallamehr for instance.

Dodge: Is used to... well dodge things outside combat such as falling boulders or runaway horses.

Hunting: Catching or trapping food to eat in the wilderness.

Forest Lore: Basic woodland survival skills.

Language: Knowledge of an additional language (by default everyone already knows Language: Common Speech.)

Plains Lore: As Forest Lore but for plains.

Religion Lore: A grasp of the gods, mythology and religious ritual.

Second Sight: Allows the character to 'see' magical effects - the traces of a recently cast spell for instance.

World Lore:  Basically common knowledge - who is the current king of Chalice, where does the wizard Yatztromo live, etc, etc.

Sorry I should have been clearer.  I hadn't posted them yet.

Everyone gets 50 experience points.  These may be saved or spent at once including on the Special Skills I have retroactively added for everyone.

Yes.

LUCK resets at the start of each Act, as (depending on the circumstances) does STAMINa. SKILL loss represents mental or physical trauma so needs to be treated 'in game'.

Tarrion is saving up her XP.  Provisions, what do they do and how much do they cost?
So Shields, do they have them, what do they do and what do they cost?

Okay, a couple of things:

1-thanks for the extra skills. I already had lock picking so can I have that at level 2?
2-I will have a think about what to spend my XP on.
3-I know my amulet is magic, but not what it does. How can I find out?

A shield provides bonuses to your armour roll on top of the armour you are already wearing (in Tarrian's case a Leather Cuirass).

Small Shield Armour Roll: +0 +0 +0 +0 +1 +1
Large Shield Armour Roll: +0 +0 +0 +1 +1 +1

So Tarrian with her Leather Cuirass and a Large Shield would have the following Armour roll in combat: 0 0 0 1 2 2

A Large Shield costs 12 gold pieces and a Small Shield costs 5 gold pieces.

The Handmaiden:
On this occasion we can take with us (well covered while we are in town) the shield of Rangor... can we?

Ooh... that hadn't occurred to me to be honest. My initial reaction would be no - it is a priceless artefact of the city and even in the cause of avenging the Baron it would be hard to see the Kallemehrans easily letting it go to a group mostly composed of foreigners on a long expedition.

Mannath:

1-Sure
2-Cool. :)
3-Make a Religion Special Skill roll (or seek out a priestess of Mirala.)

Hmm, I'd planned to go straight into Act 2 but I can see I might need an Interlude to tie up loose ends.

You never did answer my question about Provisions.

The Gamesmaster:
A shield provides bonuses to your armour roll on top of the armour you are already wearing (in Tarrian's case a Leather Cuirass).

Small Shield Armour Roll: +0 +0 +0 +0 +1 +1
Large Shield Armour Roll: +0 +0 +0 +1 +1 +1

A Large Shield costs 12 gold pieces and a Small Shield costs 5 gold pieces.

Ok, Tarrian will take the Large Shield.  So your saying her Leather Cuirass and Large Shield stack, rather then having to make a roll for each seperately.  Ok, I guess if you say so.

Re: Out of Character Chat

Yes shields and worn armour stack.

Sorry I missed the question about provisions.  Provisions are an abstraction of the rations and drinking water you are carrying. In a wilderness/dungeon area you should be looking to consume a portion of provisions per day (in a city or village you can obviously find somewhere to eat.)  Eating provisions restores 2 STAMINA points and can be done up to twice a day.  Conversely going without provisions will cost you STAMINA (2 points per day.)

Aside from being purchased (4gp each - compare with a tavern meal that costs from 8sp to 2gp depending) you can also gain provisions via the following Special Skills:

Hunting
Desert Lore
Forest Lore
Mountain Lore
Plains Lore
Sea Lore

Re: Out of Character Chat

I would like to see a Preistess of Mirala to try to establish what my amulet does. Can we do that before we leave?

Also, did we receive any additional gold before we leave the city? I might want to do some shopping.
