What she fin looks like a microscopic cat of nine tails wriggling in the brew. There appears to have been many more of them but... most seem to have been killed by the booze itself...yayyyy alcohol..even then the microbe seems to be breeding slowly in the booze...without the booze to slow the down its likely they will breed very very very quickly

Re: Cafeteria: Shift B,. Lunch

Kohler arrived a few minutes before the appointed time.

He had not entered the lab proper, and so he lingered in the hall, nodding or greeting people as they passed, and otherwise trying to look official.

He had let the Shelters dispatch center know what was going on, so there would be no surprises if or when they found themselves hitting the area where the still was reported to be.

Re: Cafeteria: Shift B,. Lunch

Addison broke her attention away from the strange organism in the booze when her alarm for their meetup went off.

She left the microscope station to peak out of the clinic.

"Hey," she said, raising a hand to wave as she spotted John. "I finished the tests, but it's not quite what I was expecting. As soon as Bob's here, we should all have a talk in my office."

Technically, Addison was supposed to report this sort of thing to Admin first, but as soon as you gave your information to the powers that be the situation was immediately out of your control. She needed a minute to figure out exactly what was inside this booze. Based on their conversation in the cafeteria, she was pretty sure that Bob and John could be trusted to not run and blab to the higher ups.

Kohler seemed mildly surprised and his narrow eyes opened a little wider.

"Really?" he commented more than asked as he seemed to try to guess what it was. The man refrained from talking any more in the hall however. "Sounds good"

He glanced up and down the hall for Bob, rested his arms on his duty belt and shifted his weight. "Probably the fastest lab results I've ever heard of. Normally takes a couple of days at least" he commented with a slight grin as they waited.

Addison frowned, but nodded in agreement.

"I'd like testing to go faster around here, but we do what we can. Too little equipment for a population this size. This sort of thing, though, it's simple. You don't need anything fancy."

Bob came round the corner, his attention more on his map than on his surroundings. Looking up, he spotted the two, nodding greeting before falling in opposite them. "Doc, John, light. So, what is the verdict?"

Re: Cafeteria: Shift B,. Lunch

At this time a young security officer with a height of a mere five and a half feet, shorter than the usual, comes walking down the same hallway. Noticing the only other sec officers in the area are fellow subversives he slightly yawns and says "Hey John, hey Bob. On my eighth patrol in three days, how are you guys doing? No serious injuries I hope." He's Arthur, one of the most vocal in security pushing for leaving. John and Bob have seen him around in security. He is sometimes given double or triple duty since he's so vocal.

Kohler greeted Arthur with a look of concern. He liked the man, he liked most of his co-workers, but he was worried about the pace that the man was being worked.

"Ouch" Kolher shook his head slightly. "So that's...what, sixteen hour shifts? Twenty?" he asked as he tried to work out the math. "Too much, that's for sure. I'm on straight twelves and I'm not feeling a hundred percent if I'm being honest" he admitted, then gestured to Addison.

"Arthur, Addison, Addison, Arthur" he gestured between them. "Addison works out of Medical" he explained. "Was just processing some evidence for us."

"It could be worse. Least the majority of it is just walking the hallways on my route, so the cardio is doing me good. I could've been sent to full on combat routes for the same amount of time though. Evidence? Anything I can help with? They might let me out early if we catch something bad brewing. I can get another few hours of sleep. If the caffeine will let me. Least they let me have some extra coffee, even if its 12 hours old and cold." Ever the optimist Arthur won't let it get him down.

When Bob arrived, Addison gestured towards the back. "The verdict's a little complicated--I'll fill you in in my office."

She began to turn towards the office, when a security officer she didn't recognize caught sight of them, and crossed over.

"Nice to meet you," Addison said with a nod when John introduced her to the newcomer:Arthur, apparently.

"Just a bit of science talk for now, but I appreciate the offer." The last thing Addison needed was drawing more attention to this before getting the situation figured out.

"You too." he says at the introduction. "Course, if its an issue better dealt with without admin awareness, I understand. It wouldn't be the first problem they've ignored. Let me know if I can help, I'm going to be around taking my break."

"Everyone always bashing Admin" Kohler said softly with a chuckle and a shake of his head as he followed Addison back to the lab proper where they could talk in privacy. "I'm guessing it's real lonely at the top"

Of course John wanted to leave, he had always been an "Outer" but he seemed inclined to at least play the Devil's Advocate from time to time.

When they were back in the lab and behind a closed door he turned to Addison. "So what do we have?"

Re: Cafeteria: Shift B,. Lunch

"First off, it's what you might expect: a few different kinds of swill mixed together, all brewed poorly--there's methanol and other leavings in it." She paused, deciding how to put it. "The thing is, I spotted something strange under the microscope. There's some sort of organism in it that I don't recognize. It'd be fast reproducing if it weren't getting slowed down by the alcohol."

Addison frowned and shook her head, resting her hands on her hips. "I wish I had more standard answers for you guys. We need to get that brew operation shut down ASAP, and track down every single person who's been drinking this. The bio agent could be harmless, but I just can't say, and until we know we have to assume the worst."

OOC: Hello, Arthur, btw! glad to have you aboard.

without warning Emergency service radios and pagers begin to warble a two tone wail...and then spew the following...

A few seconds later over the common PA

EVACUATE G STACK ALL LEVELS!!! ALL OTHER RESIDENTS RETURN TO HABITATION OR NEAREST EMERGENCY SHELTER, FIRE SECTION 23 LEVEL G-4, FIRE LEVEL E SECTION 20 CAFETERIA, FIRE SUPPRESSION ACTIVE DON REBREATHERS IN STACK G.

OOC emergency rebreathers are stored in lockers around the facility, one is in the medical lab along with emergency medical gear and fire fighting gear.

Decision time back to the cafeteria or down to section G-4 near the incinerators.?

Bob cocked his head, listening. "Sounds like it is harmful Doc. Be one hell of a coincidence otherwise. Okay, the cafeteria is likely one victim, we should go for the source, G4. You agree?"
He waited for Addison's answer.

Kohlers face hardened as he heard the announcement and he let out a long, weary breath.

His eyes flicked to the emergency locker as Bon spoke. While this was not his "native environment" he was at least familiar with where all the EMS bags were normally kept.

He moved to them, opened it up and then life's out the contents one by one into a neat line next to his feet. The emergency rebreather he held out to Addison.

"Here. We can't afford you going down."

Addison startled at the blaring of the emergency alert. She tried to keep her breath steady as she listened to the entirety of the message, attempting to put together a visual in her head of the full situation, and of what they needed to do.

She took the rebreather held out to her by John with a nod.

"There should be more in there," she said, strapping hers on.

Addison thought over Bob's words. Should they bypass the cafeteria? What if she could help? Then again, there was a fire warning--maybe no one was sick at all, maybe it was something else. Either way, heading to the origin would probably have a greater potential to prevent casualties

"Yes," she replied, "We should head to the source."

John nodded at Addison's decision and reached to the microphone on his vest.

"Dispatch, Security four two Kohler" he waited for a reply, confident that the communications center was in chaos. "Show me responding to to G-4, Section 24 from the Labs with three. We have ALS (Advanced Life Support) and a fire pack."

He spoke as he moved back over to the locker and tossed out the remaining masks to Bon and Arthur, before he put one on himself. He clicked on the voice amplifier.

"Alright...med pack for you" his voice was distorted and electronic as he handed it to Addison, then picked up the fire pack and shouldered it.

"Everybody good?" He asked generally as he began to move towards the exit into the main hallway.

Addison pulled the strap of the med bag over her shoulder and tucked a jug of sterile water under her arm. The small bottle of saline in the pack might not cut it, depending on if they were dealing with injuries or chemical exposures down there.

"I'm good," she answered.

"Lethal force?" Addison looked to John after the radio transmission. "Is that normal in a crisis, or should we assume there's someone at play here who might need to be subdued?"

"Security Four Two  copies, lethal force authorized." he repeated back into the radio.

It was hard to gauge Kolher's expression with so much of his face taken up by the rebreather and the surrounding seal. But when he spoke there was an undercurrent of stress or tension in his voice.

"No, no that's not normal" he shook his head to emphasize it and glanced about at the other Security staff with a knowing look.

He cinched up the red fire pack over his vest, adjusted his mask for comfort and then moved towards the door. "If anything happens, just try to stay behind us" he recommended to Addison with a glance over his shoulder, before he casually drew out his pistol and held it close to his chest, muzzle down.

"It's just covering everyone's butt if its a situation that requires it and we can't call them back. " Arthur says to allay Addison's concerns. Arthur pulls his handgun out as well, and keeps its muzzle down.

Bob's eyebrows went up, but he didn't comment on the kill order, simply worrying internally over the circumstances that would justify such. Pulling his visor down, he pulled his mask up to clip into it, rotating his neck to ensure proper fit. He wouldn't draw until they were closer, running with a loaded firearm was awkward and dangerous. "Ready two" he confirmed, moving off at a steady jog toward the nearest through corridor.

Re: Cafeteria: Shift B,. Lunch

"You got it," Addison replied with a nod to John. She'd be more than happy to step back if someone were to rush them. Still, the concept of defenselessness tugged at her--maybe she should grab some sort of weapon, just in case. If there was some rampage happening, her medbag probably wouldn't do much. She grabbed the scalpel bag off the table, and the injector gun pack, and followed the others out of the office.
