Standing on the ledge that opened to Aerie out onto the mountains where he had made his home, Alhamandriel d'Souzathii el'Elsperenth kor'Finnanie was pleased. Already the mountain air had blown away the cobwebs of the preceding century and his century-consort had thrown herself into the re-awakening their household cadre with far more passion than she had shown for anything that had engaged upon in the Court of the Sapphire Phoenix - or even on their meanderings through the lands of the far west. He smiled, the chill breeze from the concealed vantage point a nudge to act with alacrity and decisiveness. Yes, an excellent decision indeed.

Looking to his right, he could see down the hidden valley where the Aerie was concealed. To his left, into stalagmite-filled central cavern and the meandering caves of their new home beyond that, the conditions barely civilised for now but that too was refreshing. Below, in the cavern, the Gladewalkers looked resplendent in their armour of bronzed-scale, no betraying glint and their synchronous draw-hold-release a wonder to watch - the targets in the far dimness peppered with shafts. Enough though, it was time to seek out the wizened shadow-keeper who had accompanied them from far Lorandriel and speak of the nature of the facilities she required.

Hauling the heavy logs to the site of the new room, Alhamandrel and Elspeth compared calculations; mistakes in caverns could be dangerous and costly.  Directing the Gladewalkers, a troupe whose very namesake felt out of place in these lofts, Alhamandrel pointed to the areas where the new doorways and pillars were to be hewn and carved.  Setting bracing beams, the Elves got to work.  Although it was less common for Elves in this region to live in the mountainous regions: it certainly had its advantages.  Finding this place, although difficult proved to be more than adequate for that very reason.

However, learning about the area beyond the walls of your new home was essential: and the archers knew it well.  No Elf guarded their own without knowing the totality of the land around their borders, and surviving here would be no exception.  Thanks to the age-old expertise of their Leaders, the Gladewalkers finished the work handily, taking advantage of the heavy, mountain stone to simplify the construction process.

Providing no respite from the heavy labour, Alhamandriel continues to deny the Gladewalkers the the dappled sun and the green woodland glades of their name. Shafts of moon light and the still surface of the deep lake beneath their caverns form the only respite, though the inky blackness and curious echoes of water dripping into the lake stir something within them all, a stillness and in that stillness a brief glimpse of the passion of their youth. It may suffice; it may be the key to the reaving they plan.

As Hammers were raised, boards were put in place.  As pickaxes fell, so too did stone and long-dead roots.  With Alhamandrel d'Souzathii and Elspeth present to direct efforts; the work went surprisingly fast.  Alhamandriel even had spare time to glean new insights in the nature of support beams and where to set nails.  As years of academics unfold in a practical way before him, the haughty elf soon shows-off his knowledge, pointing this way and that to clean-up the space.  With few resources to spare; it was best to make the most efficient use of the lumber you possess.

[ However, Alhamandriel's Scholar bonus takes effect and you receive 2 XP instead of 1.  You may assign these XP however you wish among the action participants.  These XP must be applied as the Mason skill. ]

Finally, pleased with their progress, Alhamandriel sends Elspeth and the Gladewalkers off to investigate the landmark that the Aerie hides beneath, obscured within plain sight much in the manner of his politics back home at Court. With them out of the way, he himself starts down one of the many branching and winding tunnels that lead from their cave complex, intent on finding out where it may lead and whom may lurk at the other end - in deep darkness or where it emerges onto the surface. As he walks in the near dark he recalls a tale told by his grandfather of a gnome and a magic bracelet of riddling, found it was said in tunnels just like these. Unlike the rest of his kin, Alhamandriel likes the cold dark shadows.

As Elspeth and the Gladewalkers begin to traverse the various trails and cuts in the mountainside, they manage to locate a derelict mine.  According to local rumor, he has been known as the 'Pastry Chef', a sort of macabre homage to his general prowess and destructive powers, not to mention his predilection for turning all of his victims into a decidedly delicious, smelling dinner.

Alhamandrel enters the Temple in the Sky, in the hopes of preparing himself to harness the arcane energies he has heard about in this land.  As he meets with a few of the temple priests, they welcome his presence with open arms.  Members of all races are present, some prostrating at various altars, others studying tomes; but, nearly all offering sacrifices of varying stripes.  It is clear that learning from this place will be costly, but, the advantages my rapidly outweigh the price...

[ Alhamandrel is given an offer to learn a Spell: You may learn a spell of your choice at the cost of 20 Gold, or learn Midas Touch OR Telescoping at a cost of 15 Gold (may only choose one. ]

Irritated by the fees being charged by the mystics of the Temple of the Sky, Alhamandriel curses his lack of foresight in leaving behind the family war chest. He had envisioned a poorer, more barbaric realm and only brought enough for minor expenses. No matter, funds could easily be acquired, and thus summoning his century-wife and retainers the elves ghosted from the Aerie under the moonlight, loping off towards the great metropolis when caravanserai were sure to gather

Finding wagons laden with goods took little effort.  As you and your entourage made their way out of the mountain Aerie, you begin to find hidden back-trails and ravines in which to hide the hard-looking forces that follow you.  Few would question a few travelers waltzing down a road, but a band of armed and armored elves staring down every caravan would soon drawn suspicion.

With watchful eyes you wait patiently, noticing passing forces, larger and well-guarded caravans until finally a lone merchant with little more than a small band of heavy-set and ham-fisted men for guards makes its way from the North.  Figuring this to be the perfect opportunity, your rouse your troops for battle!

It was easy to overtake them, and several of your Elves manage to haul-off a number of wines, spices, and furs before you draw any unnecessary attention to yourself; leaving the merchant stranded as his lone mule bolts from the scene of the fight.

After their success with the merchant, Alhamandriel returns to the Aerie and the work required in preparing chambers for his spymaster, sending Elspeth off to the city he spied from the vantage point of the Temple of the Sky. Despite their success they required coin and that may mean expanding their forces earlier then planned

Elspeth enters into Moracku, and finds the place simply bursting with activity.  Unfortunately, the maze-quality of the streets proves to be a major distraction for the battle-trained Elf.  It takes a couple of days just to find suitable markets that will bear up against your needs.  Finally, you find a nearby patron of Mercenaries and even locate an active portion of the warehousing district.  Unfortunately, options are sparse in this market: as many have opened their coffers to buy for their own needs and campaigns.

Sloshing into the bog and mire, your forces soon begin scouring as much of the area as possible.  With no roads to guide you, or consistent sources of light; you must combine all of your skills in tracking and your knowledge of civilized behaviors to find trails and tracks of other sentient begins, and either avoid them... or seek them out.

As you make your way slowly along a creekbed, you suddenly feel a welcome dearth of warmth push against your skin, offsetting the near-constant chill.  After recovering from the happy sensation; you urge your forces to take cover and slowly make your way further up the creek; well aware of what heat in a chilled land means...

We take advantage of the wandering trainer and the Fops receive Digger skill XP (on top of their previous receipt, taking them to 3). All stats updated, discarding Stone x 2 and Foodstuffs x 2 as out of storage

  • Type: Audacious Odyssey
  • Mission:  The nearby village reports one of the ruling family's having lost its summer castle. They are in need of assistance to purge the creature from its walls! Doing so, would restore favor to the village; and the villagers would greatly favor you in turn.
  • T1 Narrative:  Having approached the family, you learn that the creature is a Minotaur. Unfortunately, you've not often encountered or even heard of them and need to do your research.
  • Task 1: [ Mechanics:  Conduct Diplomacy with an On-Map CP (Significant)  ]
  • T2 Narrative:  Lacking a library, scholar, scribe or sage, the town will be of little help to you in your endeavors. You set-out to do some research as you explore the land.
  • Task 2: [ Mechanics: Explore any Grid. (Significant Success Required.)  ]
  • T3 Narrative:  You need to gather information on this particular beast and the threat it poses. You need to send a unit in order to scale the walls of the castle and study the creature. Unfortunately, it was more prepared and rampages into a wall - sending your scout tumbling to the ground.
  • Task 3: [ Mechanics:  Scout with at least 2 x Units. If less than a Astounding is rolled - one Unit (random) loses its action next week. All Units involved gain 1 x DMP.  ]
  • T4 Narrative:  After the tremendous display of power it's time to motivate your forces.
  • Task 4: [ Mechanics: Boost Morale.  Only requires Leader to Boost Morale for one Unit. ]
  • T5 Narrative: It's time to eliminate this beast once and for all. Your scouts realize it may be wise to bring bows and other projectile weapons; for it has neither armor nor bow itself; though its horns are a great threat in melee!
  • Task 5: [ Mechanics: Attack the Minotaur (Level 3, Melee Weapons, No Armor) ]
  • T6 Narrative:  The nobles are in need of assistance to move back into their castle.

When Housed, this Artifact provides +5% to Combat-based Rolls.
Special Activation: At the end of every combat, total the number of slain enemy PAX (single entities count as a number equal to their HP.)  Divide this number by 2.  This is the number of casualties that are automatically replaced.

The Gladewalkers, thanks to the guidance of the Nosferatu's Charm and Elspeth managed to take out one of the dragons in the first round of ranged combat!
The Silent Shooters felt oddly useless, as their outmaneuvering skills failed them tremendously.
Scaled Dervish (Smug the Drake) performed admirably, taking advantage of Dark Widow's webs - and were able to delivery surprisingly accurate and strong blows.
