Re: 3. [IC] The Stranger with a Hat
In reply to Alsend (msg #81):

Articus nods in agreement, "I'm sorry Sir Knight, but we were given the benefit of visions to understand the burden of responsibility upon us to ensure that we can pass on the importance of what we have learned."

Gesturing to his friends he continues, "Your question... are you really wanting a history lesson from us, or isn't it better that we are able to communicate the HEART of the matter. This forest, the land in which we love, is protected by the fey. It would be foolish for any man to cross them, and the founder of our village was able to secure a future for us all by promising to honor the pact."

Bowing slightly to the knight in deference Articus finishes, "Of course we intend to honor the pact as best we can. We have always honored the land, we have always performed the ritual, and rest assured we will make sure that future generations will return here to learn as we have. That is also part of the pact, because as we have just seen, mere words are inadequate to communicate the import of all we have learned and seen on this day."

Re: 3. [IC] The Stranger with a Hat
"Now that was well spoken, for you were the last hope before the breaking of the pact. Proceed, a celebration is being held in your honor."

Indeed, there are assorted fey waiting near the Standing Circle of Stones, you can hear the music. Even the fabled queen of the fey is in attendance. The fey are happy.

You may converse with the Queen if you wish, or else, the Standing Circle of Stones is your way home...

OOC: At this point, you've made level 1. A full complete character sheet will be available once we get your particulars hashed out.

In reply to Game Master (msg #83):

Seeing the queen, I go and kneel before her. "Your highness, thank you for entry into your domain, the gifts of knowledge we have received, and for continuing to honor the pact in spite of our inability to communicate its importance to future generations.

I have naught to offer to express my gratitude except for my bow, and my word of honor that I will honor the pact as best as I am able, no matter where my journeys take me."

With that, I take my bow and place it at her feet.

"Rise. We have long hoped others would come to continue the pact between our two peoples. For when the last of you perishes, so too will the pact. We worked hard to get a replacement staff to your village. The original has been stolen and was used in an attack upon our realm by brigands seeking to befoul a sacred spring. Your service to our people is most welcome."

In reply to Queen of the Fey (msg #85):

I rise, leaving my bow on the ground.

"The original staff must then be reclaimed. Please, tell me where it is and of our enemy and I WILL retrieve it."

Awkwardly I say, eyeing my bow on the ground, "Umm... after I resupply at my village. Er, I've never done this type of.. thing before. Heh." I laugh nervously.

Ziggy comes to see the queen too. He tries to look serious but he's smiling widely.

"Your highness, I am happy to have a chance to see you! My name is Ziggy, and I'm a musician. Am I allowed to play a short piece in your honor? And then we can go and defeat enemies, I suppose."

She'll nod her head as you introduce yourself. "Of course, play a tune to entertain us."

Looking at the Queen, Articus tries to keep his face serene, "So is it your wish that I leave these lands in search of the staff? Or do you believe that soon it will find its way to us, along with the brigands?"

The Queen looks to Articus, "I think preparation is key. If you wait for the staff, then the brigands will be coming with it. If you seek it out, other dangers await, but you remove a powerful tool at their disposal."

Re: 3. [IC] The Stranger with a Hat
Ziggy plays a short tune and stops rather abruptly, when Daren and Articus start giving promises without, in his opinion, having a slightest understanding of what they promise. "Not so fast -- let's try to understand what's happening" -- says Ziggy to Daren.

"Your highness, I am willing to help too, but I have some questions. May I?"

// OOC: To speed up the game, I put all the questions below, but Ziggy -- if allowed -- asks them one by one, waiting for answers.

"Where from the staff was stolen? Was it protected? Who discovered it was stolen? What prevents the same brigands from stealing the replacement staff? Where did you get the replacement staff? You said that the staff is a powerful tool -- what exactly it can do? What is the sacred spring? What happens if brigands get access to it? What is known about brigands? What makes you think that few young people like us can do something at all against those brigands? Will we get any help from your people or are we on our own?"

Re: 3. [IC] The Stranger with a Hat
In reply to Ziggy (msg #92):

  • Where from the staff was stolen? Your Village.
  •   Was it protected? Only by your villagers.
  •   Who discovered it was stolen? It went missing about 80 years ago. When the people stopped coming they knew something was amiss.
  •   What prevents the same brigands from stealing the replacement staff? Nothing
  •   Where did you get the replacement staff? We created it.
  •   You said that the staff is a powerful tool -- what exactly it can do? It allows you to come into the Fey Realm, it also reacts to natural nodes of power.
  •   What is the sacred spring? It's a sacred natural node, befouling it would kill some of the life in the area and would make it a power node to evil beings.
  •   What happens if brigands get access to it? See above.
  •   What is known about brigands? They had an intention of accessing the pool, they are led by someone who has done some research.
  •   What makes you think that few young people like us can do something at all against those brigands? We are bound to our domain, whereas you are not.
  •   Will we get any help from your people or are we on our own? Are you saying the rapid training was not helpful?

Re: 3. [IC] The Stranger with a Hat
Articus keeps quiet as he listens to Ziggy's questions, and the answers they reveal. After a moment, Articus asks, "Oh no, the rapid training was VERY helpful, but in looking at all the facts, we have some significant obstacles.

If they can use the staff to essentially come and go into the fey world as they please, and find nodes of power, how do we have any chance of tracking them down?"

Turning to his companions, Articus says, "And if NOTHING is stopping the brigands from taking the second staff, we might wish to bring it with us as we track them down. At the very least we can use it to follow them into the fey realm..." turning suddenly to the Fey Queen, "Unless  your majesty has a way of letting us enter into the fey world without the staff should we require reentry."

"I believe Articus is right, we will need to keep the second staff safe." Alsend uncrossed his arms. "Is there anyplace we can hide the staffs we need to?"

"Thank you, your highness, for your answers. We'll see what we can do." -- Ziggy bows to the queen and then turns to Alsend and Articus.

"Wait, if we hide the second staff, how can we enter the Fairyland ourselves?"

Ziggy looks very puzzled and confused.

"And how we are going to find those brigands?"

"They need to access our realm using a portal, much like you did here. We believe they are nearby perhaps a week worth of travel. They lost a lot of men last time."

Looking at the Queen, Articus says, "Well then it sounds like there isn't time to waste. Is there anything else you can tell us about these men, the way that they fight, or who their leader is? If not, then I suggest we go back to the village, resupply, and head out after them."

Articus has a look of determination on his face...there was a job to be done.
