Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
Michael sits by the fire, poking it a bit while a bit lost in thought. It was still earlier evening and the group was starting to bed down, though the sound of conversations could still be heard around. Cohen and Aedan would be up for a while anyway since they had first watch.

The fire seemed to hold his attention, though his eyes had lost some focus, as if he was seeing some far off place.

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
Leo sat staring into the fire, lost in thought.  The first watch hadn't begun yet, but he wasn't tired enough to turn in anyway.  The fire snapped, breaking him from his own thoughts long enough to see Michael across the fire in the same type of daze.  The others were elsewhere, cleaning up from their meal and going to bed.

"How you holding up?" he asked across the fire.

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
Michael looks up, brought out of his musing by Leo across the fire. He shrugs before saying,"As best I can. Still a bit sore, but I'll live. I'm pretty sure Gurstine saved my life back there though. I'm glad we didn't try to leave them behind." This last was said with a nod to where Gurstine and Denyssa were sitting.

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
Leo looked at Michael, seeing the fire glinting off his scales.

"What do you know about your birth parents?" Leo asked bluntly as only another orphan could.

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
"Heh, never were one to beat around the bush, where you," he said with a small grin.

Growing serious again he said,"So far, nothing. I know where my foster parents found me, the village of Redroots, as father called it. When they found me, the village was all but burned to the ground. He said they found me, barely a year old, among the abandoned buildings."

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
"Do you suspect them to have dragon heritage?" he asked in curiosity, seeming entirely comfortable with such a prospect.  "I wonder if the fey awakened something already in you, or if they instilled it entirely?"

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
"I am sure they did, though how much they knew of there heritage is unknown. When the fey awakened my powers, I had a vision of a great battle. In it a powerful warrior battled side by side with a dragoness. I have heard stories that dragons can take a more human form. The only thing I can think of was that this vision was of the two who started my bloodline," he said to Leo.

"I have also noticed something else since then. Something primal, though I don't think it has to do much with nature like your own powers do."

"Nature is about as primal as you can get," Leo said as he looked into the fire.

"I wonder if you would have awoken to your family history regardless of the fey.  Perhaps we can find your family."

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
"True, but think of it this way. You feel the instincts of a bear or a wolf. I am starting to feel the pull of a dragon. Before the fight, my blood was burning. I am sure you noticed it. I have never gone looking for a fight, but I went there knowing that blood was to be spilled," Michael said, his gaze going far off again.

"And the rage I felt. I grew stronger, but at the same time I opened myself to attack, leaving myself open to things I would normally have dodged around."

He thought on Leo's question. "Perhaps I would have, had the need become dire enough. Had the village been attacked, some of my draconic nature could have awakened. I can't see it coming this far on its own though, not with out help either from the fey or some other magics. Finding my family might help, but it depends on what they know. And how long the bloodline has been dormant."

He looks up suddenly, as if a spark had just gone off. "The dragon. The dragon could still live!"

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
Leo smiled at the idea of Michael finding his family.  It was a daydream that every orphan had.  He knew that his own parents were long dead, he had no such illusions.  The idea that his mother might be a dragon was quite amazing as well.

"We all must battle our demons," he said, referring to the rage that Michael strove against and the animalistic nature that he fought himself.  "We're here for you."

OOC:  Perhaps a good place to end that fireside chat.  :)

Re: Michael & Leo's Thread
"True enough. Thank Leo. And don't forget, the reverse is true as well. Anything goes strange, we have your back," Michael says, with a smile and a nod of thanks.

"I think I'm going to try and get some sleep before my shift. G'night," he says before getting up and heading over to his bedroll.
