Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
Ohh no.... Here goes... As you all might remember, I am new to rpging, so I have no idea as to what I should do now that I have leveled up.  Can anyone give me a link or explain the changes?  Thanks.

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
Well, first things first - What Concept is Francis? After you answer that, what has changed for him in the game, that might alter his course.

Then I recommend reading the Creation and Leveling Thread which points out how many points you get.

Basically, leveling up is your character growing. Although it's not limited to what you actually do in the game (Like say Call of Cthulu).

Do you want Francis to be:
* A Better Warrior?
** Harder to Kill?
** Easier to hit Foes?
* Broaden his abilities and learn Magic or another power?

Basics for level increase:
HD you automatically get 1d4 additional HP - This may be bought up to a higher HD (d6, d8, d10, d12 and even d20 is allowed)

I use the Adventurer Framework that keeps Classless characters balanced and on par with Class based characters.

Warcraft - Minimal Requirement is you level divided by two
Skill Points - You need a minimum of 2 (Unless you have FAST LEARNER / Special for Skills - which meets that requirement)
Saving Throws - You need a +1 minimum for each level. Though following that, it would be every three levels before you have a +1 in each of the Primary Saving Throws (Fortitude, Reflex and Will)

Pretty much after the basics, you are free to purchase whatever you'd like.

Most any ability is going to give you more options, the focus should be to keep your primary concept up and still broaden out your other abilities to be a WELL-ROUNDED character. Focusing ONLY on fighting and excluding social skills is a very very bad idea in any game I happen to run.

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
This is the first time I've ever played classless. Do I just spend the allotted points on bonuses from The Codex Persona?

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
Pretty much. Though here is an extra tidbit, if you don't know how to duplicate a Feat from another source book, it's a mere 6 CP to add a Feat.

However, I've yet to find anything in the Eclipse book that doesn't match or exceed any feat already in print.

Plus, that's the whole idea of Eclipse, remove the ever growing pile of splat books.

FYI, I was only loosely able to post the past few days, had a pretty bad stomach bug with the vomiting and the green apple fox trots. :p MUCH better now though! :D

:D Thanks.  I'm sorry for being such a... burden. :(  Although we aren't in any rush, are we?  Based on the previous events, the battles seem very spread apart.

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
Battles are not a focus of the game, the journey, the hardships, and the character growth are.

That's why I don't mind the characters being a bit more beefy for combats, since they are rare and not the D&D centric method of gaining XP. I go by goals, and a gut feel of accomplishment for leveling.

And I wouldn't call Francis a burden, hardly anyone in my games can level themselves, Eclipse is just as new to them as it is to you. Some have taken a lot of time, asked me a ton of questions and have learned enough to do a fair job of making their own characters. They aren't at my level nor my home group players, but that's okay. I knew that introducing a variant system would require more effort to impart. I can only hope that people enjoy the system, spread it's use to their own gaming circles and that I'm not the only Eclipse GM out there. Cause darn it, I like to play too! ;)

In reply to Game Master (msg # 27):

*nods* Yar Francis, I guarantee you're less of a burden on our poor GM than I am, lol!

It IS hard to learn a system when you're playing virtually, but I have found Eclipse to be worth the effort so far. Learning curves are dicey anyway on table-top games... it took me YEARS to fully appreciate all of the nuances of 3.5, and I still run into rule problems, lol.

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
Yeah, I've had some very interesting concepts tossed my way in the games I run. Trust me, a simple fighter isn't a strain on me.

If I was going to continue just a stereotypical fighter I'd do:
6 CP | HD: 10
2 CP | +2 Skill Points
6 CP | Warcraft +1
6 CP | Weapon Specialization (Pick a Weapon) +2 Damage
6 CP | +1 Save Fortitude and Reflex
---
6 CP | Left to spend on a special Ability - as a warrior I'd choose 'Enhanced Strike / Hammer' a +5 to hit and deal Max Damage on a successful hit, can't beat that!

Mind you, that is a typical character, not something I tend to build for myself. AS the PCs here will attest, they are anything but 'typical'.

I fear we've lost Denyssa, haven't heard from the player in quite some time.

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
I might just go with your reccomendations, because I have no clue as to what I am doing.  But that enhanced strike--how often can you do it?  Does it cost HP, SP, MP, limited times every day?

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
Enhanced Strikes are Once every minute (So once a combat essentially). You may increase that by purchasing Bonus Uses.

Here is the text:

Enhanced Strike includes a variety of combat techniques mostly used by advanced characters. Each ability may be used once per minute. If the character desires, he or she may pay 3 Power, or 2 spell levels, or 1 Mana to use an ability more than once per minute, paying for each additional use. All are full attack options. A character may purchase as many versions of this ability as desired.

! Crushing applies all damage from an entire attack sequence as a single attack.
! Focused changes the attack to a touch attack.
! Hurling throws a weapon for double damage; this supersedes Doubled Damage. For an extra +3 CP, the weapon returns after the attack sequence.
! Whirlwind allows the user to make a single full-BAB attack against every target within reach.
! Hammer allows the attack to deal maximum damage while gaining a +5 bonus to hit.
! Shattering ignores half the total hardness when the character attacks an object.

Re: OOC - Out of Character - In Game Questions
May I request an edit to the story?  We just sort of left, but it would be nice if there was an unwritten goodbye, that those who didn't pass through weren't unceremoniously left behind, but a short goodbye was said and that our friends returned to our village.

Also, can we have a short summary of common knowledge of the royal family, king name and how far away the royal city is?

So far, only the three have indicated walking through the Golden Archway.

King - well we know he's got to be regarded as a decent king, or else you wouldn't be seeking his help.

Queen, died while delivering his only daughter.

Prince Darron (15), Princess Isabel (12)

---
As far as an edit, those who've dropped off, you wished them well and we can assume they returned to the village. If they re-appear in another week, I'll bring them back in (Monitoring the aftermath of Sandy and the next storm that is set to hit the area)
