Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Orin will be focusing on trying to learn the route he is flashing along... It is not as if he could find his way back even if he somehow managed to resist the dimensional flow hurling him along! At the moment... the best he could do for anyone else would be to send some helpful spell across the links, and hopefully there will be no need for that!

Now if only he could figure out where the bonsai had come from, or what that blue box that had gone by was.

William sighed at all that was going on. The down side is that he couldn't abandon the situation. If the guy was dieing on the order if his Lord Barab had a duty he couldn't deny to send the man off to the afterlife.

So, he waited to see the outcome by sitting down in plane sight.

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Leo glanced back, and was disturbed to see that William had stopped. Leo had asked what to do and had been told to keep going.  Why had half the party suddenly stopped moving?  Wasn't William some kind of military guy?  It didn't seem to make sense to stop following a plan and split their number.  At this point, Leo wasn't even certain he was capable of returning.

"{Keep moving}!" he called back through the link.  "{We have to keep together!"}

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
The man wearing armor certainly holds his own, he downs one of the infernal beings, before being forced to withdrawal back into the portal.

---
Those on the other side of the portal are in an alien realm. Alleys and streets meander in all directions. A light suffuses the entire area, no sun, in fact, where there should be sky appears to be a mirror like image of a city in the sky. Though the idea of a giant mirror or illusion doing that is unheard of, it is really uncanny to see miniature people, carts, and others going about their business up there.

The would-be Queen of Hell looks around, points a finger. "That direction."

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Orin will be paying more attention to the "horizons" - such as they are - although he will produce a bright ball of distinctively green light for a few moments while looking up.

"Hrm... No reflection. Visibly curved back on itself? Not all that large then... if the pattern repeats at the borders, I'd expect plenty of small, near-perfectly enclosed pockets there and for that to make it near-impossible to intentionally open a gate or portal without a detailed knowledge of the internal layout... I don't feel any bleed from the gate though - nature here is stunted, but stable enough. At least it's not like Cynosure then!"

He will turn his attention to Demoriel thoughtfully when she speaks though. Hadn't the the full extent of their "agreement" had been "Well then... Which way?" and her statement "I have some business in Sigil, and they shall make a fine escort for me... Let us depart". Now that they were in the "City of Doors" was it a good idea to go along with anything further?

"Well we must, at least, wait for everyone else to arrive before we do much of anything else except get out of the way."

And come to think of it, he will step to one side of the portal (and incidentally out of the way of anyone who's attempting to navigate the street/courtyard/whatever). There's no reason to be a roadblock!

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Once clear of the portal, and adjusting to the oddities, the group is led or directed to a tavern. Demoriel, turns to the group, "You have performed dutifully, take a token of my appreciation." As she offers each person a gold coin emblazoned with a sigil of some sort.

(Let me know if you accept the token, and yes it is magic)

Once the last person has been offered the token, she enters the tavern. While the group contemplates their next move, an elderly gentleman, approaches you. "Hail and well met! You seem strangers to this realm, but that is of no matter. You seem to be the ones I was told would appear here. A great ancient darkness is gathering, and you seem to be on the path to disrupt it, unless you are stopped. If you believe in the power of the light then follow me, and hide your faces. There are strict rules of neutrality here, but that will not stop some from breaking them." With that, he will pull up the hood of his own cape and lead those who follow away.

(If anyone wishes to not follow speak up)

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
(For Demoriel) "Ah, there is no need for a Token; for our deeds were small! Yet I shall hope to meet you once more upon the upwards paths."

After all... accepting magical "gifts" from the creatures of the lower realms was rarely a good idea, even if they DID backstab each other so often that there was a fair chance of it working out well.

----------------------------------------------------------

On being advised to cover his face, Orin will look at his huge poofy (and rather distinctive) tail with some doubt... Trying to disguise himself as the bride during that procession really hadn't worked out very well! Besides... A random stranger with a quest, mysterious prophecies, vaguely identified destined heroes, and conspicuously hiding their faces when even the guy offering the quest didn't really know who they were? They were in one of THOSE realms!

Maybe the place had more in common with Cynosure than he'd thought at first... Oh well. There was no point in fighting it once you'd arrived!

Orin, at least, will go along with their new "guide" - at least for the moment.

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Articus will politely accept the token saying simply, "We gave our word, but I thank you for your appreciation of any aid we have rendered. May your path bring you both peace and happiness."

Once the old man arrives, Articus quirks an eyebrow at the old man, nodded, and pulled his hood low over his head as he looked to his other companions to see what their reaction would be.

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Leo accepted the token for probably the same reason Art did.  It was the polite thing to do.  He didn't want to offend the lady, after all.  His eyes were wide open as he looked around the odd city from stories.  When the man spoke, Leo followed Orrin's lead.  He lowered his hood and followed along.

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
The eccentric old man leads the group through the less used streets and back alleys. Deftly avoiding any encounters with other beings, until he stops at the edge of a plaza. Within the plaza is a Tall and round ground Fountain, large enough to step in and get up to your knees wet. Six men lounge about the area with no apparent concern. Your insight alerts you that these men are watching the plaza.

The old man pulls out a pendant with a blue crystal. "This is the portal key, you must touch it to the edge of the fountain, but those men are from a group we do not wish to become entangled with. I will try to draw them away, but you must pass through that portal!"

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Orin had been considering their guide. He hated to be suspicious, but even for one of THOSE realms, this seemed a bit abrupt! He would have thought that some sort of explanation would be in order before a stranger who didn't want them to talk to anyone else asked them to jump through a portal...

(On the link) "Kalrith? would you "swoop down for a drink" and check that portal?"

(OOC) Applying Orin's Shadow Walk skill at +15 + 20 (Insight Boost) and Kalrith's own Dimensional Navigation occult sense. Given that this is our ride to the module, I'll assume that we get some variation on "It's a normal gate, it comes out in a livable location with normal means of egress and there's no massive ambush waiting" - but it just seems a bit over-trusting not to check.

(Quietly) "Well... it IS a fountain. How about a simple shielding spell against water for us and causing it to erupt in a massive geyser-and- downpour? I could add some watery tentacles or slippery ice or some such too if necessary. That would give us pretty good odds on just walking up and stepping in while they are busy and can't see what they're doing."

Kalrith will dutifully reply it is a safe destination, and there is no massive ambush awaiting on the other side.

And Orin will quietly hope that he has a better idea... Thinking about it, "throw a lot of water around", even with a few special effects added, seems unlikely to work for very long.

OOC: From what Articus can tell, if he cast Entangle, would it envelop the entire area, or would there be a path to where they need to go depending on where he set it?

Leo still didn't like it.  They didn't have to leave the man behind, but if he was determined to sacrifice himself, then there was nothing they could do to stop it.  He waited silently as they figured out how they would get through the portal.

OOC For Articus: To my knowledge, you have no abilities which allow you to alter the area of your spell that would be beneficial to the group in the aspect of an Entangle spell

In reply to Game Master (msg # 374):

OOC: Not altering the spell itself, just centering the sphere on a wall, etc, so that most if not all the baddies are entangled and we can all scootch around them.

Re: [IC] Portal Scene
Hm... He had never thought that the it would ever cross his mind - but perhaps he SHOULD have learned that "Induce Mass Pie Fight" spell... It was good for diversions after all.

Ah! If he threw a bottle of ink into the water-manipulation spell it would make it a lot more dramatic - and harder to see through.

Still just splashing people with water though. Bother!

(Shivan) "Well... it's just a few thugs and it's not like they'll be harassing you on a miles-long march. Maybe just a quick dash for it? Or just a quick distraction first?"
