Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo felt his pulse rate at her closeness.

"Sylvan," he said, trying the word out.  "[Language unknown:  Vorouseau],"

"I'm not a good teacher, but okay, I'll try to help you to learn.  Did you find out anything else?  Is it a normal language, or more of a magical language that might... change things?"

Re: Denyssa and Leo
"I don't know for certain, I think it might be like elvish, where the language shred characteristics with the language used for magic. I have a lot more reading to do about it. I'll need to know everything you know and sour the power too, so I can try and understand it." Denyssa was glad he was talking to her, she wanted to learn more about Leo, both his abilities and just about him." Can you come by later, in about an hour? I need to read air before asking low questis, and the others should be gone by then."

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo nodded.  He would try to teach her the strange language as best he could.

He would come back in an hour.  That would be just enough time to clear out his things from the orphanage.  He slipped away into the night without another word, silent as always.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa nodded too, watching as Leo slipped off into the night before heading back inside the inn. She was certain the others would be leaving soon and was going to say goodnight so she could go do more reading before Leo returned.

Right about an hour later she was sitting on the hitching wall right out front of the inn waiting for Leo to shoe himself.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
An hour later...

It had gone well, the priests were more than happy to discharge him from the orphanage.  He was now truly a resident of the forest.  His tent would suffice for now, but he would need to start work on his cabin as soon as they came back from recovering the staff.

He made his way back to the inn, amazed once more that circumstances had forced him to speak to Denyssa so much in a such a short period of time.  He looked up and was startled to see her already waiting for him near the hitching rail.

"Hi," he said with a nod.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa focused on him from a ways away, he was quiet to be certain, but sje could see in tjw dark better than any of her friends. When he door she smiled. "Hi yourself," she replied. "We need to go back to the library. All the books are there, we'll need them to reference." She was overexplaining a little, but Leo made her a little nervous inside. Particularly when they were alone together. She held out a hand so he could help her down from her perch, one he'd seen her get down from just fine on het own many times.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo easily helped her down, his work in the forest had made him strong and agile.  He was only of average height, but he was still quite taller than Denyssa.  He reluctantly let go of her hand as they made their way into the inn toward the library once again.

He cursed himself a fool for allowing his heart to thud so heavily in his chest.  There was no time for such feelings, things had changed and put them even further apart than ever before.  They needed to learn more about the magical focus, the fey, the Ancient Ones and the staff.  This was simply a research session to find answers to their current predicament.

"Have you told your parents that you and Michael will be leaving tomorrow?"

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa gave Le's hand a squeeze before letting go of it after he had helped he down "Not specifically, no. But they know, they've seen the preparations we've been making. She glanced over at him, he'd grown serious, more.serious, sine the trial. But, she supposed, they all had... Except perhaps Aedan.

Just ad they were about to enter she held a finger to her lips and 'shh'd' him "Quiet, everyone's asleep." and then led him into the house and through it to the library.

Once in the room she shut the door and pointed to the table, there were books strewn everywhere. "That's every reference I could find to some sort of unexplained power, I wedded out the one's that were obviously arcane in nature so we just need to figure out where the one you told me about falls. Anything else you can share would make it much narrow it down even more."

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo moved to the books and began to skim through them as well.  The priests had forced literacy upon him at first, but after time, he had grown to enjoy reading.  He would even occasionally take a book from the temple and read it in the forest.

"The Ancient Ones made contact with me a few months ago," he said, speaking softly.  "No words, just... well, just a feeling.  They made me more aware of the natural balance around me.  After that, it was what I've already told you.  They were here long before the fey, they look like great trees.  The fey are the ones who mentioned a mystical focal point.  I don't know if they refer to the Ancient Ones or if the Ancient Ones are here because of this magical energy as well.  Obviously it is all connected to nature, or at least manifests that way.  We also don't know if it is on this side, or in the fey's world that is linked to this side."

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa listened intently, making some notes with a charcoal pencil on some scrap parchment. When he finished she discarded a couple more books from the stacks on the table, putting them back on the shelves, but also produced a like number from the shelves to replace them. "These cover various species of plants and creatures native to this area. I think we'll need to look more at descriptions to find anything about these Ancient Ones. However, this one,"<Green> she said as she pulled one last book off the shelf. <Green>"I know mentions them, its a fairy tale book though."

"Fairy tale," Leo said with a serious look.  "That would make sense, yes, where is that one?"

Denyssa passed him the fairy tale book and then went back to reading herself, pausing every so often to look up at Leo through her eyelashes.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Most of the fairy tales were about evil witches or wizards and grand heroes. But a couple fit the description of what Leo had said. The first fairy tale was about a young boy who was shy and reclusive, spent a lot of time in the forest hunting and trapping when one day he caught a leprechaun. The leprechaun made a bargain with the boy, in exchange for letting him go and protecting the forest the fey queen would grant him great powers. The boy, who didn't know any better, agreed readily  without bothering to see what powers he would be granted or how they would affect him.

The boy let the leprechaun go and was given the ability to shapeshift, but not only  could he do it at will, but when the glen was threatened he would be compelled to change and come to defend the fey queen's earthly realm.

The second was a parable about how a young girl who had talent with music so enraptured a fairy knight that he granted her the ability to speak several languages, to be a pass between for the fey and the mortal world so that she could help divert the mortal races from the fey places of power.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo remained impassive as he listened to the stories.  It sort of made sense, but they were obviously in error.  Or perhaps they were accurate, it was difficult to say for sure.  It seemed like the fey had the same power as the Ancient Ones, perhaps they were separate, perhaps connected or perhaps they just drew their power from the same place.

"Interesting," he said without giving away any emotion.  "I suppose our true question is concerning the focal point of power.  This is probably what we most need to learn about.  What is it?  Why is it here?  What can be done with it?"

He continued to flip through the books, amazed at the wealth of knowledge that Denny had at her disposal.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa nodded, "It seems so, I haven't found much about focal points, they don't seem to be a popular thing to write about. That or papa didn't care to include them here. Likely not written about though." She pursed her lips in thought. "Let me look a little more and while I do you can tell me why you think I'm disgusting." She then proceeded to rinsed through the pile ok home until she found ablarge, woden bound one and began to leaf through it.

Leo continued to flip through the books as Denny spoke.  He froze at her last sentence, not sure if he had even heard her correctly.  He looked up at her, his face solemn and serious.

"What do you mean?"

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa kept reading as she answered his question, "I mean, Leo, that any time I get close to you or hint that I like you, you run away. What I can gather.from that is that either you're stupid, which I know isn't true, or you don't find me appealing. So, the question is then, why don't you find me appealing? So that I know if its something I can remedy or not." Not once did she look up from the book that he could tell, her.head stayed still and her voice soft. She was.warching though, looking through her eyelashes and bangs to study him.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
"I don't understand the question," Leo said, his face still solemn.  "Why would I find the prettiest girl in town disgusting?"

He was so flummoxed by the juxtaposition of the statement that the words came out without thought.

"You like me?"

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa rolled her eyes, "Yes, Leo. I. Like. You. What's not to like? you're strong, thoughtful, handsome and caring." Denyssa squinted at the elvish script, turning the book on its side to read it. She "Hmmmd..." as she read it. Halfway through she realized what he'd said and looked up at him, "The prettiest girl in town? Really?"

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo's face turned a bright red as he looked down at the books again.  He was an idiot.  There was no future for them, it was a hopeless scenario.  It had been bad enough when she was just an innkeeper's daughter.  She could never leave town to live in a cabin in the woods.  But now that she was a full-blown mage, it was even more of an impossibility.  Sure, she liked him... as a friend.  That was clear from the gifts they exchanged.  He looked to the book she was reading.

"[Language unknown:  Iorias Vorng Ratndeore,]" he muttered aloud without thought, reading the title.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa noticed his change in demeanor and she called him on it. "You're doing it now Leo, just without physically leaving. I like you, a lot. And not in some we've been friends forever sort of way. I like you in the I want to kiss you silly every time I see you sort of way. If you'd just let me." She'd set the book aside after reading her father's notations and stood, putting her hands on her hips as she talked. "And when did you learn Elvish?"

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Leo's mind was a confusing mess of emotions and thoughts.

"I asked the priests to teach me the day I first met you," he rambled as he got to his feet.

Her words didn't seem to make sense.  It was everything he'd always wanted to hear, but it was impossibly timed.  Even if they could get over those things, there was the secret.  He wasn't normal.  The Ancient Ones had done something to him and he wasn't safe to be around.  Sure, they'd all gotten powers from the fey, but the Ancient Ones had done something more primal to him.  The fey's blessing, helping him to use his bow more accurately, was nothing compared to what the Ancient Ones had taught him.  Michael's changes looked the most drastic, but his own changes were effecting his very soul.

"I'm sorry, I never should have said anything.  This was my mistake, I shouldn't have come here.  I'm not safe to be around... I.... I'm sorry.  The Ancient Ones... their first contact it.... I'm sorry..."

His legs strode quickly, taking him to the door and out of the building in a flash.  She accused him of always running, she was right, but it was safer this way.  He was dangerous and the last thing he ever wanted to do was hurt her.  He didn't listen to any reason and refused to be stopped as he walked quickly toward the dark woods surrounding the village.

Re: Denyssa and Leo
Denyssa thought for a moment about stopping him, she could have if she'd wanted to, but decided against it. Instead she muttered under her breath "stupid boys." Watching as Leo ran away again, What was she going to do about him? And what did he mean he wasn't sage to be around?

Denyssa pursed her lips.again in thought before returning to her reading, she did still want to find out what he was talking  about as far as these Ancient Ones were concerned.
