Re: Playtest Rules discussions and feedback

[GM note - not happy about javelin doing no more damage than an arrow...hmmm may need some house rule here].

The javelin is also quite a bit larger, which I believe results in a -30% penalty to actions while impaled by one - compared to the -10% penalty from being impaled by an arrow.

The ranged attack tables aren't great for describing the SIZ of the ammunition, rather they describe the effective size which is including force imparted by momentum.  A spear is SIZ L, if a javelin is comparable to that then the -10% per size category S/M/L from the impale gives it the -30%.

Correct me if I'm wrong?  The options of taking away the enemy's shield, from pin weapon CM, or imparting -30% upon the foe seem to me like they make up for the damage being equiv.

Could always change the javelin to be d6+2 instead of d8 though.

Re: Playtest Rules discussions and feedback

The RQ6 task difficulties are much better in my opinion.
The difficulty chart isn't linear, it goes:
very easy: 2x skill
easy: 1.5x skill
normal: 1.0x skill
hard: 2/3 skill
formidable: 1/2 skill
herculean: 1/10 skill
impossible: n/a

This makes easier tasks more likely to succeed for low skills and harder difficulties actually matter to the over 100 skill crowd.

Back on topic... The size of the impaled weapon compared to the size of the target affects the penalty applied to all actions. For man sized targets, javelin vs arrow is the difference between hard and formidable.

By the way - who owns or has access to RQ6? Given I know three of you do at least - who doesn't?

I don't have RQ6 yet. It is on my Christmas list, so we'll have to see if my 2 year old daughter can work out how to use the Design Mechanism website.

Its not a problem if not, but I have a mind to go for a conversion across at the next major breakpoint. The rules are similar enough you can get by if you don't have it with some GM direction and info. It would be a useful playtest to move to RQ6, but I wont impose if anyone who would like to continue play would be uncomfortable.

No, do make the change. I'll be looking to buy RQ6 in January if it isn't under the tree!

I got it for my birthday and very nicely presented it is too.  It will make a fine Christmas present.  I have a 6yo and a 4yo so excitement is reaching fever pitch.  Strange thing about Christmas down here in Aus is getting used to a 35 Centigrade Christmas Day...
