In reply to Simulacrum (msg # 714):

Round 2, Turn 1

(GM rolls for Ori - its a 06 - critical evade!)

Swift-footed Orinastron leaps clear of the fray, while the hulking elemental that is now Solisma attempts to head him off with a wall of earth before crashing in to engulf as many of the party as she can trap in one go...

Ori's critical roll gives him one SE he can choose. Going from the list, there's only one that is relevant - and that's Overextend Opponent, which denies Solisma an attack on her next turn. Which is now...

But we move on to the Bakru. The diminutive little fellow calmy slips himself off the end of Tanek's spear, while targeting a spell at his erstwhile attacker...a roll of 04 is critical, so requires a critical to resist. Tanek thinks the little Bakru speaks to him...'I think it's rational to be afraid right now, don't you?', and it sounds awfully, awfully menacing....

And Sanjar shakes his mind clear and must decide what to do...

It's words, they make so much sense! We've been out here for how long? The ship has probably left by now. Which means we're trapped here! The only other boat that could possibly be here is heavily protected. We don't stand a chance! We're all gonna die!

Tanek drops everything he's holding, yelling, "Game over man, game over! What the heck are we gonna do now?!?" With that he turns towards whatever looks safest and starts running.

32 Willpower, I can't succeed. This is a perfect time to panic!

Sanjar's eyes blink, coming into a focused clarity as he seems to suddenly comprehend his surroundings.  He begins intoning an incantation, gesturing before himself and then with broad sweeping gestures of his free hand over his companions.  His manner is definitely more brusque and hurried than his usual manner when practicing his craft... his eyes intent yet betraying something of the controlled fear beneath.  As he speaks he backs steadily away from Solisma, attempting to gain distance from her without lowering his guard.

Orinastron's deft and evasion leaves him standing at the outer edge of the group sensing, rather than seeing, the disintegration of the party's cohesion.  Aware that he is one of few who has maintained their composure he is determined to do all that he can to bring his comrades with him.

Ori will attempt to bundle Sanjar along with him, if he is close. Or alternatviely grab a transfixed Tanek by the scruff of the neck and pull him out of range.  Kordan (presumably) is in possession of his faculties - as much as any sailor could ever said to be.

Sanjar's eyes blink, coming into a focused clarity as he seems to suddenly comprehend his surroundings.  He hefts his scimitar in one hand, as his bearings come back to him.  His eyes go from dazed and confused, to sharp in focus, and onward to a smoldering anger tempered by fear.  As Orinastron makes for distance, Sanjar seems to intuitively mirror and move likewise, seeking to keep himself near the other man, and moving away from the danger as much as is possible.

"Tanek!  Snap out of it!" he yells brusquely.  "Honor and courage!  Nothing is certain until you are actually dead.  Move man, move!"

Re: Solisand

In reply to Sanjar Zand (msg # 720):

Rangewise - you have been in speaking distance, no more than a few meters. As everything kicks off Tanek and Kordan have come close to where the Bakru stood next to Solisma to attempt to hit him. Rhaskos was in the background, javelins in hand.

But now Ori has dashed for it, weaving past Solisma's elemental form as she tried to grasp and crush him. She's lost an attack and this turn she is simply going to wait and see who attempts to Change Range (in an effort to withdraw) - between Tanek, Sanjar and Khordan - and attempt to prevent their quick exit from the range of her engulfing attack.

SO Tanek, Sanjar and Khordan - in that order - need to make Evade rolls as they attempt to get out of dodge. IF Solisma has actions to use, she can attempt to head them off as they go with an opposed evade roll. If Solisma cannot oppose the roll or loses the context, you are out of her range.

Tanek is still critically afraid and making a break for it. I wouldn't expect to get to make an evade check but here's one, just in case.

Maybe subconscious evasion!

Tanek is running for it and the apparent folding of the ground around him to try and block his exit is no barrier...just like Orinastron there is no way he's letting himself be a victim on this occasion.

In fact his critical beats a success, and earns a Special Effect...a good choice may help his friends to also get out of range of the raging nymph-gnome's attacks

Oh hah, right.  I forgot about an SE. I'll pick Overextend.

Tanek's apparant panicked retreat draws Solisma's attention towards him as an easy target.  But today is not to be his last, at least not yet at any rate.  His defensive training serves him well as he smoothly moves just barely enough out of the way that the full impact Solisma expected is instead expended into the nothing, leaving her off balance.

Orinastron's and then Tanek's deft dodging as they flee the scene leaves the gnome grasping at its victims.

[rules note - if Solisma in her gnome form now attempts to block Sanjar and Khordan's retreat on their turns she'll be out of actions, meaning they either escape now or can do so unopposed in the next cycle of turns.]

.....A beat....it's dark, very dark, thickly forested with gnarled trucks and branches reaching up to a black canopy above; there's a creek tumbling through the rocks somewhere - and two supernatural entities who are certainly still in range to use magic if nothing else...

What to do? Tanek isn't stopping, the rest may want to rush with him, but right now nobody has much a sense of direction, it's treacherous underfoot...the direction of travel will be random.

Sanjar continues to try and stay with Orinastron, and otherwise focus on the whole not getting pulped and juiced thing.  His eyes betray the mixture of fear and anger that so starkly motivates him, while the turn of his jaw betrays the frustration as he seems to mentally grasp for a plan of action, and come back empty handed.

In the same frustration he turns his acerbic wit, far sharper than his sword arm has ever been, against the Bakru.  "You!  How brave and noble!  Such a guardian.  So true, so just.  You are just as culpable for what murder she will do when you stand beside and aid her!"

Sanjar gestures with his scimitar, pointing with the blade for emphasis.  "Control your friend in her mania.  DO SOMETHING.  Or are you as much the type to kill wantonly during first meeting someone as is she?"

Ori will pause momentarily to scan the situation behind him.  He is committed to protecting Sanjar whom he seems to have failed to collect on his exit stage left. He has little faith that his arrows or sword will be of great use in this encounter. What little he knows of woodland things... Isn't there...might there be some sort of affinity to a plant or tree?  Is there anything obvious to fit this bill within sight upon which some harm might be visited?

In reply to Orinastron (msg # 732):

I shall assume the trend is to continue to make some distance - to pause and speechify at once is to invite Solisma being able to close to attacking range again.

Rhaskos, of the supernatural night senses is trying to act as a guide through the treacherous broken ground by calling to his colleagues or grabbing and tugging them in the right direction

It is night in a forest wilderness, so within a few moments it is very hard to see where on earthy you are and how far away (and where) the danger. Sanjar pauses and Orinastron with him, and calls out his challenge.

The response - Sanjar make a Willpower roll vs a spell from the Bakru as he hears in his head, 'Get away from here, flee!'

Sanjar feels a spell attempt to reach into his mind, but shrugs it off. He's none the wiser as to what kind of intrusion was intended, benign or malign...

Ori is hoping for sight of something that might inspire a plan - but there is nothing but black, menacing forest, here and there penetrated by the bluesilver moonlight. He knows he's tired. Everyone is tired - and now afraid and fully aware of how cut off you all feel from any safe refuge. Ori at least manages to orient himself, clocking the route picked out earlier following the stream downwards from where you left the underground complex behind. The raging nymph/gnome is still close by. Ori feels you can outrun her if you keep moving, so long as you do not get confused and lost and stumble back into her grasp...

In reply to Sanjar Zand (msg # 736):

OK, Sanjar has clocked the route by which you descended earlier from the underground complex to the where you attempted to make camp until interrupted by the nymph and the bakru. It gives him a reference point

He notices the Bakru isn't following and having all disengaged you can outrun the nymph so long as she is a gnome. If Sanjar is going to call out for the team to go along with him, he's picking the compass direction (or at least uphill vs downhill). You'll have to do this on the fly without asking for further info, it's dark and all. Come up with something and I will interpret ;)

Sanjar will attempt to head westward, if feasible.  If I remember correctly that is the side of the island we are supposed to meet the Foam Follower on, and that is what he has his mind on just now.  If the rendezvous is in another direction and I am misremembering, then that is where he would go.
