Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

On another note - I'm thinking this weekend I'll take another look at everybody's character sheets, and let you know other additional information or other items that are needed.  I can also fill in information such an encumbrance values and all the rest of it if you haven't already.

Assuming we get that all squared away, we can get you guys posting in the main game thread and get things introduced.

Also - please select character portraits :) I like to have a face associated with the name.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Don't know.
Are we going to be from the same city?  Childhood friends and rivals as mentioned?

I see the dynamic as Petracles having more combat experience, being a Hoplite Officer, but Arthanos being much more politically adept.
Pertacles might make a good general on day, Arthanos a good senator?  A healthy and friendly rivalry exists between them involving
challenges, dares, and feats of strength and daring.  These used be quite dangerous and reckless when they were children - now not so...

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

I think we should go with that.

How old is your character going to be?

Well if this world runs like Ancient Greece, it means we both would have served. So you stayed in the military, while i've started working more as a politician/orator.

The rivalry works well and will provide a fair bit of entertainment.

And who says we're no longer reckless.....we just decided to go adventuring. A reputation as a hero wouldn't hurt either of our careers.

Excellent!  I rolled 22 random age.

All that remains are childhood nicknames?  These may present themselves later on...

Welcome #4!    The gyros are on the spit (or whatever they cooked them on), come on in!

I will endeavor to find a pic rapidly.   Debating whether to go with the previous, or a different one.

I doubt it.  3 would seem like the workable minimum for a shieldwall.

And Hi, Player 4 :o)

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

I believe you can have a shield wall of two against one enemy.  Along as it's not a very large enemy.  Probably unworkable against a hydra, in any case.  ~_^

No word from MM for awhile...know he said he was going to recruit, again.  Just waiting for the results of it, hopefully..?

Edit- Aha, still in business, I can see!

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Just noticed that Arthanos and I have this Black and Gold thing going on
(costume from King Arthur).

Can I suggest we continue and maintain the Black and Gold colour scheme?
Seems appropriate for the fighters and a priestess of the underworld?

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Hey guys - It's been a busy weekend, but I'm working on the thread now and am answering outstanding PMs.  For those who have already rolled up their characters, I'm going to give your character sheets a look over with a fine tooth comb and then they will be final.

As far as Color Schemes, I would prefer that everybody select their preferred color and stick with it throughout the game. This also holds true for portraits, unless for some other specified reason we change it for other reasons (such as changing the color or your character's hair in-game, or putting on armor, etc...)

Arthanos:
....hey GM, since me and Petracles back history has us both having served as hoplites, are you against us using the shield wall ability with each other?

Yes. I'm against it. :)

You guys have served as hoplites, but your class is Noble.  You've been officers of the common hoplites/spearman, so you've been directing them to take up shield walls, but you wouldn't really need to do so yourself.

Besides, you are out of the military now!

Dysis:

That's correct.  The rules state anyway on Pg. 24 that you need two spearman or more in close formation to do a shield wall.  It'd be effective against a medium or small sized enemy, but if you are facing down a Giant or a Cyclopes who can smash you with a huge mace, it might not be so useful.

Question for Petraceles and Arthanos

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are your portraits of the same person, just in different poses? They look extremely similar to me.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

>a priestess of the underworld?

Again, Dysis is an Elementalist, not a priestess.   She doesn't advertise her religious interest, the way a priestess would.   It's more personal. Given how most probably feel about the power of darkness, she doesn't advertise making use of it.   And is pretty good at pretending to be something she isn't.

Therefore, she actually doesn't wear much black. And gold is for you noble types.  ~_^

Gold & black classy color combo, though-- looks great for a pair of nobles!

Apparently, the GM wants to all have known each other, previously.    You two have that established, looks like. In my case, it is probably an association from youth only.

Dysis' father was a talented sculptor -- who began making, shall we say, unflattering sculpture of certain senators, for the meetings of a secretive faction, who were led by a wealthy eccentric.

Well, dad's patron got busted eventually, and so did he.   Things went bad for the family, after.   Dysis disappeared from the local scene.  Not seen again -- until start of story.

It is possible my father did sculpture (er, the non-mocking sort) for your families, and that's how we met.

Depending what #4 is thinking up, it may be different with her.   I'm guessing may be a sorceress...if so, we might have met more recently, in some occult circle or gathering.

Which should make things interesting. :)

No Maze Master, you are incorrect.

Arthanos portrait is of Ioan Gruffudd playing Lancelot in the film King Arthur.
Petracles portrait is of Clive Owen playing Arthur in the film King Arthur.

They are in the same style Roman armour - Black and Gold, hence the IC colour scheme.

In reply to Petracles (msg #38):

...that is a good colour combination....and maybe if we make them retainers...we could hire them :P

In reply to Maze Master (msg #39):

and curses about not being able to do the shield wall :'(

And in ancient Greece, for most cities, you served in the wall barring the commanders, even if you were nobles. And whether we are out or not depends on the cities the game cities are based on.

And in general....this is starting to remind me of this bad kids show on tv...two nobles, an mage and a thief...now we just have to be more competent then they were.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Hey guys

Petracles asked me a question about what city everybody is located in. This is part of my answer to him:

Myself:
I want the characters to be from one of the three major city-states, those being:

1. Thena
2. Argos
3. Heraklia

While it might not make much of a difference which of the city-states the group decides to be located in, there is in the Maze Master's Guide some "Recent History" that talks about two of the cities and the war that they had, Heraklia and Argos...

I'm going to post in a "notice" the history that is provided in the Maze Master's Guide as well as one of the quarterly issues that provides a lot of background on the three cities. If nobody expresses a strong opinion on one city over the over, then I'll select one at random, but perhaps the history might sway a few opinions.

Here seems to be the condensed traits of the city-states though.

1. Thena the Golden - devoted to Zeus, Athena and Apollo, this is the most cultural of the three.
2. Argos the Blue -  devoted to Hermes and Poseidon, this is most commerce centered of the three.
3. Heraklia the Red - devoted to Zeus and Ares, this is the most martial of the three.
