Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Actually, let's just take a quick vote on it. If you have a preference, post it here.. Otherwise I'll roll a 1d3 and that'll determine which city you guys are from.

EDIT

Because we have four players, if we end up having a tie, I'll roll a 1d3 anyway and that will be the tiebreaker.

Yes.

Though if you pull some really obscure one out of thin air, I'll need to look him/her up. :)

don't worry, I'll explain them if I do :P

Want to have as one of the gods I revere to be Peitho, but in the persuasion and charmed speech aspects...not the other aspect/s.

I am fine with which ever city has items that can be liberated form their oppressive owners.

Personnally I like Hermes and Dionysus.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

It sounds to me that Aleta might feel at home in a city like Argos, a nice commerce city with merchants with fat pockets...

Dysis?

Sounds fine to me.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

I consider myself very up on my Greek mythology, but had to google Peitho.  That was a new one me!

Wherever we are, Dysis has only recently returned from elsewhere.   So it makes no difference, insofar as my recent background goes.

Just based on the gods, I might be tempted to go with Argos.   But, I don't want to vote for it.  Any of those will work for me.

It sounds like we should know each other from the start, I am fine with childhood friends with someone or maybe an ex-lover or anything. I am open to suggestions.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Aleta, I don't really have a feel for what your background is/was.

We could have been childhood friends, most likely.    Dysis came from a reasonably well off artisan family, before they lost what they had.

Depending on your background, we might instead have met after that - but it would need some PM discussion.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

I am thinking she was on the poor side actually.  Though maybe My Mother was a maid for yours or something. I am 19. I had thought she could have been part of a gypsy band or traveling actors but then that does nto fit with anyone else.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Here are my thoughts on character connections - These are just suggestions though, so they can certainly be changed or edited as you guys suggest and see fit.

Arthanos and Petracles Connection

As nobles, these two have a natural tie to one another as they both served in Thena's military as commanders and likely spent their at least part of their youth together with other young nobles from Thena learning their lessons, languages, history, etc...

It is natural that these two friends and comrades would travel with one another now that they have been discharged from the military (It is peacetime after all). As to their personal family histories, I'd suggest that they either come from poorer families (relatively speaking) or are younger / youngest sons in their families and therefore not likely to inherit anything except their family name and social standing.

Aleta and Dysis Connection

As non-nobles, these two naturally have a lower social standing, and depending upon their own personal family histories, would be considered either middle or lower class (perhaps your fathers/mothers were artisans or craftsmen). I'd suggest that they grew up and played together as children, perhaps even taking some of their lessons together as well in learning their lessons.

For whatever reasons, as teenagers or young adults they went their separate ways. Dysis' path eventually led to her manifesting her elemental powers, whereas Aleta might have gotten in good with a thieves' guild, and used her connections there to hone her own abilities as well as make her living.

With Dysis relatively recent return to Thena, these two friends have reunited and are starting to catch up on old times. They are also discovering that each one is capable in vastly different ways.

Connections between all four

This is a bit trickier.  I can see different ways to handle this:

1. Aleta and Dysis don't know Arthanos or Petracles.  (But perhaps are aware of their reputations, such as they are)

What would happen in the prologue then would be that you'd need to get to know one another and come to an agreement to travel together. I'm fine with this, provided that you guys actually come to that agreement. :)

2. All four know one another for other reasons - the connection can be loose. Dysis might have been asked to demonstrate her elemental powers for a group of nobles which is how she was introduced to Arthanos and Petraceles, whereas Aleta might have been in a play (as one of her background talents is 'Actor'), which was impressive enough to warrant an introduction between them.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

Well, there are likely ways it can be worked in.   You might have met anyone while traveling, and performing.   Maybe staying in one place for a time.

The maid idea could work.  In one of two ways.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

I've already stated here in OOC that Dysis is from an artisan family, (middle class, before losing their wealth) and what happened to them.

For whatever reasons, as teenagers or young adults they went their separate ways. Dysis' path eventually led to her manifesting her elemental powers,

Anyone who knew her up until her departure, would know what happened to her family.    Her father was probably jailed, maybe executed -- not sure what penalty  sedition and such things carry, in this setting.

As said, her father was a sought after sculptor.  Could have done for work for either of the noble families, if anyone connection is desirable.

EDIT: Up to Aleta, on that last note....

In reply to Aleta (msg #66):

Yep, we were in the same Phalanx.  The Elite military that is the Thenan Army.
Other than that, Petracles is young, free, and single and has a dozen reason why he could have met Aleta already...

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

For reference, here's what I posted earlier:  Dysis' father was a talented sculptor -- who began making unflattering sculpture of certain senators, for the meetings of a secretive faction, who were led by a wealthy eccentric.

Dad's patron got busted eventually, and so did he.   Things went bad for the family, after.   Dysis disappeared from the local scene.  Not seen again -- until start of story.

It is possible my father did sculpture (er, the non-mocking sort) for your families, and that's how we met.  --meaning the nobles.

Other sorts of associations, including flings, are fine. Or not having met before.  Not too picky at this stage.  As long as background stuff meshes. :)

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

OK so I think we should go for;

Petracles and Arthanos are good friends.  Dysis and Aleta are good friends.

All four have met briefly at one of the many cultural occasions as Thena, a play where Aleta is performimg,
a wrestling tournament where Petracles is competeing, a sculpting exhibition etc, etc.
We are aware of each others reputations and are willing to work together.

Who knows, we might even double date in the future!!!

man....go off line for the night and everything happens.

At this point I'm working on having Arthanos family being a bit....quirky. So they have the money to be more powerful, but don't quite care enough to do the political mingling. They support the people voting initiative.

Re: Hera's Hearth and Kettle (OOC Chat Thread)

So you are part of players travelling between the cities? Well that works well since Thena is the city that tries to collect knowledge, which means if you are trading and brining plays from other cities, you're likely to get more attention.

If Petracles is playing the warrior noble, if you guys were doing a play from (blank of war city), I can see him meeting after to hound you for more information...maybe if became a regular thing that when you guys visited, he'd get info from you about their exploits and tales.
