Re: Public OOC Discussion

The most consistent description of their interaction suggests that Hecate is a thorn in Hades side at most, she is something of a snitch at times, but also provides an important service at others.  To me it seems more like the annoying sibling problem than any sort of hatred, particularly compared to the depth of conflict some divine entities get into.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

One of my earliest, and still most loved D&D characters was a priestess/mage in service of Hecate.    I read up a bit at the time --  sources vary of course, and things change over time.     But, what I've read to generally be true -

Hecate was a guide for the dead.    When she was traveling into the underworld, it was usually in this role.     This was basically a service to Hades -   she's helping to keep order in his kingdom by ensuring souls get where they need to go.

She herself had pretty much unlimited influence over the powers of the lower world, able to lay to rest any restless spirits (in the mortal world) prowling around where they shouldn't be.    This too was a service to Hades -  he doesn't like escapees.

She was also the god that Persephone's mother, Demeter, recruited to try and help get her back from Hades.   Would have succeeded, too, if Hades hadn't done the quick bit with the pomegranate.    Now, for that there could feasibly be some resentment.   Hades was pretty desperate to hang on to Persephone.

Beyond that, I've not read anything that suggests the two are at odds, in any serious way.

However, since it's Dionae's god, if she wants to play there is hate between the two, I would suggest just run with it.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

Funny at Temple of Hades I help do the dig on they were rivals however it was later during the Roman incursion it could have been influenced by that. I was though only there aiding for credit in Greek History and a course in Greek Philosophy. But I tend to believe respected experts on this. Earlier Greek culture you would be right.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

A significant amount of confusion can rise from translation too, both of language and culture.  Rivalry can just as easily be friendly competition or driven by hatred even in the most simple terms.  Expecting it to look the same over hundreds of years of use, and thousands of silence, is unlikely.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

I’ve appreciated the discussion in this OOC thread.

I think the way that I’ll play things, at least in this game, is that the Gods simply have their own agendas and those agendas can turn on a whim.. They play their games when bored, have their favorites among mortals, and may be pleased or displeased with what happens. The party’s actions may piss off Hades, but maybe it will but greatly amuse Hecate, or other Gods/Goddesses. Or they might ignore it entirely as being beneath their notice.

We shall see!

Update is pending.

Yes.  It's pretty much like if future scholars tried to dig up info on Iron man, Bat man, or other superheroes.     There'd be any number of differing and conflicting versions.

Should have a post in tomorrow...not quite time left this evening.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

That's fine. I know everybody is going to be a in different situation given what is going on right now. I've been fortunate enough that my work has transitioned to teleworking, but I know everybody else's situation may be vastly different.

For now, no updates on the game (as nobody has posted recently) and that will be the case ongoing for the time being.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

Hey guys: so for the time being I’m going to close our game thread but will leave open this OOC thread. When/If you as players are ready (or interested) in playing further maybe when the world starts to make sense again then we’ll continue where we are leaving things off at. Or depending on who is interested then maybe we’ll jump forward (or backward?) in times.

Just as an FYI: What I am planning to do is to start a new M&M Greek style game which I’m going to create an advertisement for probably later today or tomorrow.

I have no plans to delete this game. It’s been on hiatus before and my sense is that maybe a hiatus is appropriate again.

Thanks for playing!

Re: Public OOC Discussion

I think you're right.

Counting your first game, where I briefly played this same character, how many years have we been doing this?     Like since 2012, or something?

If it starts up again, I'll likely be around.   I'm not going to join anything else, right now, but wish you well with the new story.    And good health and safety to everyone in these times.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

Hey all,

So just a feeler here to see what, if any, interest there is in reviving this game now that we've been on break since March.

Plan would be to open for new people to join, but then open a new adventure and I'd be deleting the 'Chapter 6' thread as if it never happened.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

A fresh start is often a good idea, I tend to find it better to go forward rather than back.  Sketch out a quick 'solved the problem' sort of fast forward post that brings the characters out of whatever situation they were in without abandoning any continuity int the story.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

since the thread was closed, I guess I will place it here, before I forget about it.

The Quest  into Hades was a complete success. Lysandros and his fellow where. For the moment, the heroes. But such things quickly fade in the memories of those in power, as to a that was then... what will be done now?

The time during the feast and celebration was used by Lysandros, to try and make connections in the Dima’s family, and those that might meet when the “Heroes” where fetted for their deeds. His family honor had the stain washed away and he restored as a noble of The, but all the trappings of his family where gone. It was his task to restore his blood line to its proper place, in Thena society.

If the Dina family had a daughter of marriagable age, Lysandros would  attempt to woe her, to win her favor. He had no illusions of a marraige, for he was of noble birth, but impoverished. His goal was to win the young woman as an ally, so she might add the weight of her voice in the ear of the head of the Dina family. He needed powerful allies, on his climb back to his old station in the world.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

Hi all! So that's more people interested then I thought would be of the old group, so that is encouraging to hear.

I don't think that we are going to get back Itylus or Eurenomes though, which is too bad as I thought both players were great additions in the time that they played in this game. Arthanos hasn't checked in some time - so I will reach out to his player directly.

I did put in a recruitment post but nobody has applied just yet. Right now I would like to supplement the group as currently to get some more muscle / specialist types to join up. I think what I will do in the meantime is open up an IC thread which you all can post it as you like.

Re: Public OOC Discussion

Obviously the non mainstream games have smaller communities of players, but the older games like this one tend to also pre filter the players who tend to disappear for no apparent reason, so the retention ratio is a bit higher even if the actual count isn't.

Please welcome Danae, who is planning on joining the group as an Archaeologist! Which, from my review of the supplement, is a pretty interesting subclass.

Certainly. I actually need to take a little bit of time to update the party treasure thread and look back over the Chapter 5 thread to see what else you guys found.

But, the contract for return of the artifact was 100 silver each. They got the better part of the bargain, but you guys were broke. :-)

Anyway, the 100 silver per person applies to everybody in the group, even those not originally part of the contact (Dionae and Tancea). The additional reward since you've returned is basically free room and board, plenty of food, other pleasures, basically being completely pampered.
