Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

It comes with ALL the expansions actually, its the ultimate edition.

Honestly, the retail discs only came with stuff that you can't use anymore anyway.  Wallpapers too, but those are easy to find.  The main thing was the desktop themes, which were built for Windows XP and thus won't work very well anymore.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

Nah what I meant was I recall it use to having special hulls that you needed to download seperately to use as well as a small 'unlocker' that freed up some other options for ship building.

They weren't anything hugely impressive but would be odd if they didn't get included along with the rest of the bundle.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

Ohh, I remember those...

In any case, those were aesthetic only really.  Plus, the expansions added a lot more to it than those extra little things.  They were the Special Edition ones if I recall (I've got both the original SE release, as well as the Ultimate box, heh).  In any case, nothing that directly affected gameplay.  I believe they're in there as part of one of the later expansions - but even if not, no one would even notice that they're missing.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

Except those of us with the old retail boxes who had them originally. Still have a backup CD of raceimages and logos for all the custom races I put into that game. :)

Was a nice game brought me back to the days I use to play Ascendancy.

I did play some of that.  Poor thing, no way it's going to live up to the hype.  Little ever does, though.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

Nothing ever lives up to hype. The people that are making GW2 out to be the second coming of MMOs are doing it a disservice, just like they have to every other MMO that's had lots of hype.

Still though, it's a great game that I enjoy a lot. I will certainly get my monies worth in entertainment value out of it and then some, which makes it a success in my book.

It always occurs to me, when these kinds of topics come up, that if people in the MMO space would consider World of Warcraft a fluke instead of the bar setter, more games would be considered successful. Nobody else has the kinds of subscription numbers WoW can boast, never have, and I don't think ever will. Not in a single game, anyway.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

I find the numbers less a measure of success than the longevity, but that's just me.  Course, I'm probably still just mourning those games that died too soon. *sobs* Poor Tabula Rasa...

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

I'm inclined to agree on that point, too. The original Everquest still has subscribers, for example, while Everquest 2 went Free to Play in order to return to profitability. EVE Online is older than WoW too, and still has around a third of a million subscriptions.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

All things considered, in my opinion, Eve Online is the 'best' MMO of its type.  It has the most player control of any other MMO with regards to the massive open Universe - in that, the players basically control what happens.  Devs throw things in of course, and add stuff with expansion, and try to balance things.  But they can't count on what players do - and don't try to stop them barring actual exploits.  Take what Goonswarm did to the ice market early this year, heh.  They decided, for fun, they were going to crash the market.  They did.  Every single Gallente Capital player ended up paying like, 10 times as much for fuel for a while.

Its that kind of stuff that makes me love it even though I quit a while ago.

Anyway, I can't wait for Guild Wars.  Loved the first, but didn't play it as much since I got in late.  The fact its free is part of why I love it.

Re: Holonet 2.0 [OOC]

A few of my favorites include:

"You are now friends with Yosuke!  Yosuke will now die for you!"

"Cream & Sugar?"
"What are you, Nanako?"
"Daddy I want it black!"

"More like one Yosuke... and one... awesome... Yosuke."

And of course, the ever classic:

"Who wants to talk about *Murders*?"
