Re: Holonet [OOC]

All right, all finished.  Hector's so far a very good pilot, quick on his feet, and quite good with his pistol.  Eventually, I'll get another skill focus or two for Deception and Persuasion, but at level 6, not enough feats yet!

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Seely's got skills in commanding, is a fairly well trained combatant, and isn't bad at Academic Pursuits; her teaching at a University definitely helped!

Commanding, huh?  Don't you go barkin' orders at me while I'm in the cockpit...

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Ori, on the other hand is smart and socially slick.  Not only can she sweet-talk her way into a starship captain's bed: once he's asleep she can bypass all of his vessel's security systems so her associates can selectively redistribute some of the cargo; dismantle and creatively rearrange the engines to malfunction; reprogram the droids to have seen nothing out of the ordinary; and stroll out the next morning having convinced him that she was asleep the entire time...

Oh, and she's not spectacular with her blaster, but she doesn't suck with it either.

Edit: Okay, sheet's done. Far too tired to put a description in now, so will fix that tomorrow.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Quick update:  just trying to find our Jedi now.  Looks like we'll end up with 6 players.

As well, I'll probably be doing some brief individual RP stuff with the lot of you before you all meet in the briefing room.  More on that to come.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

I'm being a little harsh on my Jedi selection.

[Private to EAS-05; Hector Terrachova; Oriana Cy'Kast; Seely Komad; Serina Ryo: They're all a bit similar.  They're all excellent Jedi of course, but not much beyond that.  So I'm a little harsh on their backgrounds, probing each one for more information, trying to get the wheat out of the chaff etc etc.]

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Nothing wrong with that.  So many of them, even in the Star Wars canon, are kind of...vanilla.  Give us a Jedi with flavor, and character! :)

[Private to EAS-05; Hector Terrachova; Seely Komad; Serina Ryo: Take your time, chief.  I'm pretty sure we're all patient, when the end result is quality. *sagenod*]

I understand.  I wanted to put a Jedi idea in but Seely struck me like a bus.

I actually liked Obi-Wan.  And...uh...who is that one.  Barriss Offee.  That was her.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Oh, I like several of them. Obi-wan and Quinlan Vos, actually, are my two favorite characters out of the entire universe.

But you can't argue that a lot of them kind of get relegated to "Default Background Jedi" status. :(

I mostly liked Obi-Wan because that defensive combat style is nothing but troll.

Blast. I hate trying to narrow down languages.  I seem to always find myself with one more that would make sense for the character than I have slots to take.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Part of the problem (in my opinion) is that, like soldiers, Jedi are stripped of a lot of individuality.  They keep some of their personality traits for sure, but in order to stand out, well...if you stand out too much, you're probably not a very good Jedi!

Similarly, you see a lot of troping, as in order to be let out into the world (even at this level) you've got to be pretty strong with the Force, quite capable.  Which goes back to being a good Jedi: by and large, bland.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

A friend and I had this discussion just the other day, actually, about how some of the best Jedi as far as accomplishments, were in fact not very good Jedi when it came to following the rules.

Pretty much; the rules of doing good at any job are knowing when the rules can go screw themselves without going over the line.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

I dunno about that.  Look at Obi-wan - aside from the slight defiance trained into him by Qui-Gon, he was pretty much a model Jedi.

In fact, as Oriana said... pretty much all the best Jedi - and the vast majority shown in the movies and other fiction - are not so much perfect Jedi.  But, they uphold the tenets accordingly, while keeping a personality.

However, I don't see why people need to be 'exceptional'.  As soon as you reach Padawan level and get assigned a Knight as a Master, you're ready to head out into the world with them.  Then once you're a Knight yourself, you're qualified to go solo - regardless of 'power level'.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Seely's not really exceptional (she drew lucky and survived the war, and did well enough to become an officer), either.  Jedi just sorta draw that 'Exceptional' quality to them, though.  An average Jedi is a little beyond our conception as far as a Main character or PC.

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Even Obi-wan had his struggles with the Order's restrictions.  Heck, he even left the Order once while he was a padawan.

It's just that most of his struggles were with himself, and ultimately he tended to do "the right thing" as far as what the Order expected of him in the end.  So on the surface, he appears to be the model Jedi - and is definitely one of the closest, I think, but he still wasn't perfect.

Truly, there were probably more of them that fit that bill than we know about.  The canon is rife with secret Jedi romances and all that stuff that was "against the rules", but I think we miss hearing about most of it because those involved just kind of acknowledged that it was a no-no, and that they were going to do it anyway, and just kind of kept their heads down to not draw attention to themselves.

(Unlike Anakin, who seems to have screamed and railed and fought the restrictions from Day One, and we all know where that got him. <.< )

Re: Holonet [OOC]

Anakin was a whiney bitch anyway.  But, I think we've illustrated the point adequately.  GM, I trust you in choosing a suitable Jedi.  And if they're stale, well, I'm gonna be showing you all up with my awesomeness anyway.
