Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

"You will be allowed your possessions for the duration of the mission.  Some of them are...questionably licensed, but we'll deal with that when you return."

She does not dignify Hector's offer with a response, unless a scowl of contempt counts.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Oriana resists the urge to snicker, and stands up.  She takes a few moments to stretch her back, and rolls her head around, eliciting a loud pop.

"My X2's still in one piece on the ship, I assume?  The little fella's sensitive.  If your boys scared him, I'm going to have to spend all night coaxing him out of hiding."

"No, but arrangements will be made to allow the use of said astromech.  At any rate, I have another meeting to attend to."  She speaks into a receiver on her wrist, "Sergeant, please come retrieve Ms. Cy'Kast and Mr. Terrachova."  The doors slide open, and those very same droids and guards enter the room, with brand new cuffs, leaving the previous ones discarded on the floor.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

"Your loss, General," Hector replied with a shrug.  Even so, he was happy to hear he'd get his things back.  Beyond that, the only thing he had to deal with was getting his ship back.  All in due time.  When the Sergeant returned, Hector rose with a smile as if greeting an old friend.  "Sergeant!  Good to see you again!  I was beginning to think we had parted ways for good."

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

"Oh boy, more cuffs," Oriana observes, more than slightly amused.  She grins, and winks at the guards, "Keep this up, boys, and I'll start to think you like us."

She turns around without complaint, bringing her wrists together behind the small of her back for the guards.  Of course, this puts her in a prime position to address the General again, "So, General... Since a night on the town before our morning briefing seems to be out, any chance you could convince these boys to take me by to see my boss for a few minutes on the way back to our delightful cells?"

"Terrorchovie!"  replies the Sergeant, with faked enthusiasm and a bad mispronunciation.  The wide-eyed smiling face dissipates quickly, as he indicates you to the droids with the wave of a hand.  They stomp towards you and get you into the cuffs in a way only clumsy guard droids could.

While Oriana is being re-cuffed, Garza curtly responds, "No."  She gets up from her seat, and says, "I'll see about letting you use a holo for it, however."  She departs the room via a door in the back, opposite where the two of you entered.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

With the general gone, you're both ushered out of the room.  They seem to be "guiding" (ie, pushing and shoving) you through the same hallway this time, which is just as empty as before.  There are a few minutes on the way to the vehicle lot wherein you could exchange words or pester the guards, if you so choose.

"Well, that could've gone worse, I suppose," Oriana mutters under her breath, trying to maintain a shred of dignity while being shoved around by the droids.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Hector frowned at the Sergeant, clearly unamused at his sarcasm. "Well!  Looks like someone just lost his invitation to strip-pazaak!". With that, he allowed himself to be cuffed and shuffled out of the room.  Once in the hall, he glanced over to Oriana.  "When you speak to your boss, let him know that I have no intention of making off with his ship.  See, unlike him, I view certain things as 'off limits' when it comes to crime.  Stealing a man's ship is akin to stealing his home, or his livelihood.  Most definitely not classy."

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

"But you'll sit in his chair, eat at his table, sleep in his bed, and pilot his ship around the galaxy at the Republic's orders, right?" Oriana asks.

Despite her sarcasm, she knows full well that Hector doesn't have a choice to say 'no', really.  If the amusement in her voice doesn't carry over, the fact that she's struggling to keep from smirking outright as she glances at him over the rim of her glasses should make it plain as day.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Hector simply nodded.  "Seeing as how he's not dead, his debt to me remains to be paid.  Once you've told him all that, you can then tell him that the next time we meet, I'll be sure to put one right between his eyes, just to make sure he stays dead." Hector didn't seem particularly worried about the guards overhearing his words.  Hell, if they cared, they would likely condone the action, seeing as how Kai was just as much a felon as he was.

Oriana laughs, shaking her head.  "I'll tell him, if you really want me to, but I don't see much point in it.  If we make it back alive, you can shoot him again, but the result's going to be the same..."  She trails off, glancing sidelong at him, adding in a quieter voice, "Unless you intend to shoot me first?"

"Sorry, I make it a point to shoot women as little as possible.  In order for me to shoot you, you'd have to be good enough to hit me.  Experience says you're not, so..."  He shrugged.  "I'd have made sure he was dead last time, but with that barge on its way into a black hole within the hour, I figured Nature would take care of the rest."

Oriana pauses right in the middle of the hallway, and turns to Hector.

"Are you always this insulting?"

Hector paused as well. "Consider it a repayment for what you said about my ship earlier," he replied. "I pay my debts, after all.  If you like though, I'll stop insulting you, and instead comment on your obvious beauty, and incredible talent with mechanics.  That Duros couldn't put fuel in a fighter, let alone keep a light freighter running."

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Oriana snorts and rolls her eyes, laughing with genuine amusement.

"Tell you what, Terrachova... How about a truce?  You stop insulting my boss, and I'll stop insulting your ship.  After all, come tomorrow morning I suppose Skyfisher's going to be your ship, at least temporarily, and you're going to be my..."

She stops speaking, and flashes a huge, shit-eating grin.  "On second thought, feel free to continue insulting my boss." With that, she tilts her head down and blatantly winks at Hector over the rim of her glasses, before being roughly shoved forward by her droid guardian.

"You'll like my handiwork, though, trust me," she snickers over her shoulder, while stumbling ahead once more.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Hector flashed back hi own grin, which was more than a match for hers.  He was a smuggler after all - that was one of the first things you had to learn to succeed.  "Truce it is.  Take my word on this, I'll grow on ya.  Before long, you'll wonder why you ever joined up with that Duros."  He managed to fall into step quick enough to avoid a shove, fortunately enough.  "And I've little doubt in your abilities.  If there's one thing I can say about Kai, he knows a good thing when he sees it.  Stole my ship, after all."

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

"You know, he never did tell me that story."  Oriana laughs, shaking her head and trying to find the proper rate of trudging that keeps her from either bumping into the backside of the guard in front of her, or being shoved from the droid behind.

"And I joined up with him because he was the best captain that would take me,"
she adds with a shrug, hampered as it is by her hands cuffed behind her back.  "Lotta them don't trust women on a ship in the first place, much less messing with their baby's innards."

"Not exactly a decision I regret, either.  It's been one hell of a ride."

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

"Good.  Some day, <i>I'll<i> tell you the story exactly how it happened.  You hear it from him, you'll hear the untrue version." About as annoyed by the cuffs as Oriana was, Hector had to wonder why they even bothered.  There wasn't much an unarmed human could do against an armored, armed security droid.

"Its a pity I wasn't in the area when you were looking for work from the sounds of it.  So long as anyone that works on my ship is willing to fly in it, I got no problems with a woman on board.  Hell, they used to say having one along was bad luck.  I like to think its quite the opposite."

"Guess that makes this your lucky night, then, or at least as lucky as it gets cuffed and escorted in a Senate hallway, eh?"

Oriana starts to chuckle, although it quickly fades into a bit of a sigh.  "Damn bastards.  Damn Jedi business."

The two non-droid guards seem relieved to get you apart as they dump you into separate vehicles for your trips back to your cells.

The trip back is quiet; the guards ignore you just as much as before.  The shield barriers to your rooms re-engage, emitting their soft hums.

[Private to Oriana Cy'Kast: (We'll do your holo with Kai in a separate PM, I'll start it later.]

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Once back in his cell, Hector headed over to his bunk and reached underneath to pull out the bottle of brandy he'd convinced one of the guards to bring him a few days back.  Happy to find that there was still a bit left, he flopped down on the bunk and enjoyed the rest of it, while contemplating all the horrible things that might happen on this 'Jedi business'.

Re: Prologue: Of Pride and Purgatory

Oriana, meanwhile, crossed to the empty center of her cell and flopped down unceremoniously.  For a long while she sat there, with her knees pulled up and her feet crossed at the ankles, her elbows on her knees and her hands dangling between them.

It was a classic pose, one she remembered well from her youth, sitting in circles on the floor.  One she tended to still fall into now and then, although usually she had her blaster, or another mechanical device for her hands to fiddle with.

With her hands empty, however, there was nothing for her to do but turn her mind inward.  Jedi.  This absolutely could not end well.
