Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

"I have some medpacs, myself.  Your surgery kit's just going to slow you down, and we won't be able to guarantee you the peace to use it when we get on planet, even if it's needed.  Of course, Sergeant, hopefully we won't need more than basic patchwork." Seely sighs, speaking softly to no one in particular, "Let's hope what's ahead of us goes better than dealing with them..."

It's a lose-lose on a command scale; she is better of acting like a merry little fool and then letting them betray her.  Now, she sighs and loads the power pack into her heavy blaster and checks that her scope is securely mounted.  She has been through worse, she assures herself silently.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Hector slowed their approach slightly in preparation for landing, and to give those going ashore a bit more time to prepare.  In that time, he managed to mostly ignore Duran's words, though he did have a valid excise, being the pilot and all.  But when he felt the hand on his shoulder, he had to turn enough to see the Jedi adopting a pose a parent might when speaking to a child.

Having managed to avoid point it out to Shandra that their words were a lie for the time being - that, even though they said they trusted the smugglers' words, in reality they did not - he could only offer a wry grin.  In that moment, Oriana rose and, through an expert display of control over the situation, knocked the Jedi clear off balance.  Keepig an eye on him, Hector nodded to Oriana and watched her leave.  Once she was gone, he broke onto a fit of laughter, having clearly noticed his... disturbance.

"Thank you, Jedi, I needed that.  Trust me on this one; that woman's more than you could handle.  Good luck on the ground."  With that said, Hector turned his attention back to the approaching manor, an the now visible landing pad.  He waited until they were above it before pulling the throttle back for a sudden full stop, then used the landing thrusters to drop her down about fifteen feet off the deck for a few moments, giving Oriana time in the gun to make sure the coast was clear.  If he heard no shooting, he would then drop it down onto the landing struts, with the ramp aimed at the manor's entrance.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Oriana bends down in front of the little droid, one hand resting on his head.  "It's probably going to get a bit dangerous, little guy.  If you want off the ship, we can see about getting you back to Kinbo's shop.  He'd be happy to keep you around, we'll just have to get back to Nar Shaddaa, first."

She smiles at X2, and rubs his head fondly again.  "Stay in the comm center, and listen to Hector," she instructs the astromech, before continuing on through the main hold and disappearing into the tunnel to the ventral turret.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Duran looked at Hector, and for a moment he glared at the man and then shook his head, pushing the negative emotion away and focusing on the peace, for just a moment he imagined what he must have looked like.

Looking at Hector again he smiled slightly,"The Force is strong in that one....." He was clearly not really refereeing to the Force as he chuckled,"I'm not trying to handle her, but thanks for the advice...."

If only he would listen to it himself, but he suspected that Hector regularly bit off more than he could chew,"And it's Duran, you're so eager for trust but you don't seem to be placing much in us. We are just humans, like you."

Getting to his feet he said,"Keep the ship ready, Hector, I want to be here to see you really fly." He took a step and said over his shoulder,"And have a chance to show you how I shoot."

With that he headed to the door, hearing the talk of medpacs he said,"I have one on me as well. Do any of you have short range comlinks?"

Serina nods and gives Seely a wry smile.

"I don't plan on anyone needing any medical attention at all. But you know the saying, hope for the best, plan for the worst. Medpacs should be alright. If there is a need for surgery it will have to be done onboard the ship afterwards"

She nods to Duran

"Yeah, there's one in my utility belt, nothing fancy but it works fine"

The short, dark green Twi'lek looks over at Duran with more than a little surprise.  The helmet, thankfully, covers her expression a bit, especially as the Sergeant smiles at her.

"The best laid plans...but I do have some good news on the comm link front: the General was nice enough to sort me with this long range comm-link, nice and portable despite the extra expense." Seely holds up her left arm, revealing a miniature wrist sized unit, "Not much good if they jam us straight away, but, I was expecting a blue milk run or maybe a local terrorist cell.  Hopefully, it won't just be a waste of credits."

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

The ship's approach to the manor is quiet.  Coming in at the edge of a copse of trees, the ship finds an empty platform for a ship just this size, and must be a priority (or at least a luxury) for the manor to have one.  You can see a station below for refueling, and what must be a power generator just beyond the platform.

All one-story structures, the buildings that comprise this space are nonetheless of prime architecture befitting something you'd refer to as a "manor."  There are about 6 gray buildings total, though while they are all covered in reflective windows, noticeably none of them are particularly connected.  They're independent, as though instead of a manor it's more of a very small city.

Most odd about it is there is no activity whatsoever.  This part of the planet is about to descend into nightfall, and the shadows from the buildings grow long, but while there are a few speeders parked in a small lot, you see no presence of living things or even droids.

Below, the platform has a set of stairs that lead to a walkway which would take you to a doorway of the closest structure.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Duran smiled at the Captain,"I have a short range one, but it's got encryption and I have a pocket scrambler as well. I'll disconnect the scrambling but I'll need to give your comlink the encryption codes if we're going to talk."

Looking out at the manor he frowns,"Something is wrong, there are no people...." He focus his mind, his face seeming to clear of worry or concern for a moment as he reaches out with the force, searching for signs of ambush or other danger.

He took his lightsaber in hand, not igniting it for now as he scanned the manor,"Whenever you are ready, Captain."

21:06, Today: Duran rolled 23 using 1d20+15. Perception (Force Perception).

"You're right, Duran," Seely states as she draws her heavy blaster pistol, flicking its action, "They either cleared out because of what's happening above...or they were gone before we got here.  Set your weapons to stun until we can confirm hostiles, and be ready once we set down."

She edges over to Duran, "Can you sort out the encryption issues now, rather than later?  We might need that handled."

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Serina stops by the medical bay to pick up all of her medpacs and makes sure her own blaster is secured in it's holster and ready to use, before meeting the others at the ramp, handing Seely, Shanda and Duran an extra medpac each.

"Put those anywhere, just in case"

She looks down at the completely abandoned 'manor' and shrugs.

"Maybe they were responsible for summoning the sith here and are now at the space port awaiting their imperial overlords. Or they are holed up in an emergency bunker somewhere, could be anything"

As Duran takes out his lightsaber, she automatically takes a step away from him, almost instinctual. But she does take her own blaster pistol in hand and glances at Seely.

"Who do you want to take point?"

The hydraulics of the ventral turret hum slightly in the quiet, as Oriana spins the ion gun around, sweeping the manor courtyard.  Her eyes flicker over the targeting scanners, looking for anything hidden from regular view.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Ori sees nothing from the turret, giving Hector the go ahead to land the ship and lower the ramp.  Nothing new has happened, it's still quite empty down there.  It's really quite quiet, no wind or anything, just the sounds of the ship.  Come to think of it, that's probably why you can't hear anything.  Darn thing's loud.

You're free to move out as you desire.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Shanda slipped behind the others her hands folded in the sleeves of her robe. Glancing out noting the lack of people she does not seem all that concerned. Turning to regard Duncan she gave him a smile, "There is no activity because a Sith invasion force is currently landing. Anyone not in the defense force or a death wish is probably hunkered down in whatever shelter they can find." Chuckling softly the Consular kept alert, her Force Sight taking in all she could as she readied to move out with the others.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

"I'll take point." Seely states as Duran works out the issue of encryption quickly enough, "Duran, with me.  Shanda, behind Duran, and Sergeant, you watch the rear.  Remember what I said; we're less lethal unless we confirm hostiles.  The planetary defense forces are not going to be polite, even though we're not wearing enemy uniforms."

With that, she steps out ahead of the rest of the group, scanning the area as she moved ahead deliberately.  The enemy is either out there waiting or not here yet, so they have to cover the ground diligently and quickly.

[Private to Duran: Just assuming it doesn't take long to either sort the encryption or to turn it off.]

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Duran turned the encryption off with one hand sliding under the brown robe to the webbing he wore beneath. Smiling he slipped out, noticing the medic flinch he looked at her and smiled, she was rather pretty too, but something seemed to worry her so perhaps she'd relax if she thought he was friendly.

He wondered if she had encountered a Jedi before. Looking at her hand he was going to ask her about it when the order came out. Another one to talk to when the chance presented itself.

Lightsaber in hand but deactivated for now he trotted off next to the Captain ready for whatever lay ahead.

Shanda took her position moving with the others, her posture remained relaxed but wary. Her head shifted beneath her hood as she was watching for signs of life...or opposition.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

The ground team makes its way to the door of the closest building without incident.  It's a standard electronic sliding door with a panel on the nearby wall.  Said panel indicates that the door is locked, and has no visible keys for coded entry.  Probably uses cards.

[Private to Duran; Shanda Rell: You do notice that the panel includes a small camera.]

There is one button, however, labelled "Knock".  Presumably, pressing it would send a signal to someone inside, letting them know you're there.

"Step back, I'll handle this." Seely waits for the squad to back up a little bit, if only to spare them potential enemy fire from the door.  She stands off to the side of the door, a little wary.  With that sorted and no objections, she presses the button.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

A high-pitched beep comes from the console when Seely presses the button.  Nothing happens immediately, but about ten seconds pass and the door slides open.  Standing on the other side of the portal is a pale-skinned, middle-aged human man with gray hair surrounding a large bald expanse of scalp.  He's wearing a plain, short-sleeved shirt with pressed pants over a nice pair of shoes, giving the appearance of an office-worker.  He does not appear to be armed.

Behind him is a fairly dimly-lit room with a lamp illuminating a small desk with a little potted plant cascading some vines down the side, reminding anyone who's been in an office of a receptionist's area.

The moment sets in, and it seems to startle him.  "Oh!  Hello," he says in an Imperial accent.  "You're...quite armed.  Are-are you Master Orth's people?"

The man appears aghast.  "Invasion?!"  He takes one step towards you to get his head outside and looks up and around.  "Well that just won't do.  Damn overaggressive Sith," he spats, stepping back inside.  "Well, I am to understand there are things that need doing, but to find out what they are, you will have to come inside.  The owner of this estate would speak with you."

Settling into his Captain's chair, Hector brought the engines back to idle, keeping them hot, as well as the deflector shields, which he oriented towards the dorsal section to protect from attacks from above.  Hearing the commlink, he leaned to one side and spoke back.

"++Probably skipped town the moment the Sith first arrived,++"
he replied. "++Its what I would do.  Frankly, I'm surprised anyone's home at all.++"
