Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

The group has just entered atmosphere on Corellia after breaking away from the Sith Empire fleet.  Oriana's check into the METOSP is unfortunately not very useful, and hasn't been updated to reflect the incoming Imperials.

OOC: Resume where you left off!

Seely just prepares herself for the worst, hoping no more of the Sith penetrate in far enough to get after the Freighter.  They'll already have enough trouble escaping without making a bad landing...

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Shanda re-emerged into the cockpit from the corridor she had been thrown into with the rather express acceleration. She wasn't hurt other than her pride and that healed quick enough. Glancing over the cockpit she looked beyond to the surface of the planet trying to see if any of the holocrons she had viewed or tablets she perused had any knowledge of this world and just where it might place them in relation to thier mission point. Glancing to Hector and Oriana she smiled, "Impressive flying, the Republic did a good thing enlisting your help, they obviously found the best qualified."

Glancing to Oriana the smile never waivered, "So you have training in one of the other traditions or did the Order originally welcome you?" The question was rather bluntly stated but Shanda wasn't one to beat around the bush, though her voice didn't carry any accusation or suspicion, more a casual curiosity.

"My womens' intuition is just that top notch," Oriana responds flatly, without taking her eyes off the console panel in front of her.  She yanks the headset off her head and tosses it over its hook with perhaps a bit more force than necessary, before leaning forward to look more closely at the terrain map.  "METOSP's useless."

Shanda smiled to herself and inclined her head, turning to let the pilots some peace though glancing back over a shoulder. "Well if you wish to discuss your insight further I am always willing to listen." Turning back she moved to the entrance of the cockpit and laid a hand on the wall almost to continue but remained silent slipping out into the corridor to seek a stable enough place to rest and meditate.

Hector paused, realizing his mistake.  Figures; but then, when doing multiple things at once, one could be excused.  Fortunately, Shandra spoke up, giving him enough time to figure out how to salvage the situation.  Or at least, attempt to salvage it.

"My mistake,"
he replied, momentarily ignoring the conversation between the two.  "Women who love both are simply amazing.  There's not many around, you see."  He glanced over at Shandra. "Of course, Jedi don't count, what with the magic and all.  Speaking of which, assumptions made in the heat of battle are rarely correct."

Oriana glances sidelong at Hector and silently mouths 'thank you', tossing him an appreciative smile in the process.  Once the Jedi has turned to leave, however, that appreciative smile turns into a full-blown grin.

"Good save, on both counts."

Hector dipped his head, and offered a partial shrug. "Hey, its what I do," he said, flashing his wide grin. "Make an ass of myself, make the save, and save the lady in distress." He paused, realizing his mistake. "Pardon me, woman."

"Damn right," she retorts, flashing a huge grin of her own, and following it up with a burst of genuine laughter that can probably be heard down the corridor, even over the steady roar of the Skyfisher's engines in the atmosphere.

Oriana peels her glasses off and passes a hand over her face, stifling the last of her mirth and catching her breath.  "I don't think that counts as making an ass of yourself, either.  I'm sure you can do better," she teases, before turning her attention to the planet outside the windows.

"Where are you putting us down?"

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Seely disengages from the turret, perhaps a little too eagerly.  It'll be easier to relax once she's up in the cockpit with the others, "Good flying so far.  Let's hope the ground effort goes so smoothly."

With that, she turns, hurrying off to get her kit ready for the landing.  They might have to clear out of this vessel before long at all.  Either way, she planned on being ready for the mission and coming home.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Duran, not privy to the discussion of the force in the cabin reorientated the gun on it's gyro before locking it in place and unstrapping himself. With a smile he leapt out of the turret, climbed the ladder and headed towards the cockpit.

He waved at the others, a smile on his face, before pushing his way into the two pilots,"Nice flying, Terrachova, although from the shaken looks in the main cabin you may want to make the landing plain and simple."

He looked at the information the droid had called up,"You going to be able to find a place to land near that manor? We might want to hide the ship from the Sith, we don't know how long this will take...."

He patted the little droid on the head,"Good work, now do you think you can find some information on the person living in the Manor...although they may not be who we are after at least we can get a picture...."

Finally he turned to Oriana,"Try hailing the manor, perhaps the owner has slightly better equipment than the run of the mill stuff. I'm sure they're keen to be evacuated given the state of the atmosphere....lots of Sith Junk up there."[Private to Oriana Cy'Kast: The feeling of a gentle probe in the force extends, you recognize Duran's touch immediately, once you open your mind he sends feelings of concern, interest and a hint of embarrassment that he tries to hide and the words,"We must talk."]

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Oriana swivels around in her chair and blinks in disbelief for a moment, before snickering.  "If a touch of the afterburners and a roll has everyone all shaken up, you all are going to be screwed the first time we have to really fly.  Hell, nothing blew up or quit working that time, either."

She slides her glasses back onto her face, leaving them down a bit on her nose.  At Duran's suggestion, she rubs thoughtfully at the back of her neck with her hand, her eyes flickering back and forth over the rims of her glasses between Duran and Hector in turn.  "You know, we don't actually know that the owner's not responsible for bringing the Sith here.  I know subtle's not really our strong suit, but don't you think it might be better if we go into Coronet and at least ask around a bit before walking up to the front door?  The manor could be crawling with Sith already."

She glances up at Duran again, locking eyes with him for a split-second before pushing her glasses up into place.  [Private to Duran: Just as clearly as before, Oriana's voice comes through into Duran's head, "Later."]"In Coronet, we'll be just another freighter at the docks, and CorSec'll keep the Sith from setting up shop right away - if that's even their intention.  There's got to be some Jedi presence on Corellia, right? Some Republic installation? Shouldn't we be feeling them out for some up-to-date intel?"

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Smiling at her words he said,"Well, that's why we have you...to keep the ship running. Next time a word of warning might be all they need. I don't think they were expecting something like this in such a short space of time."

The Jedi shrugged,"Master Mul Orth made no mention of the rest of the planet. He said this place was important, this planet has almost no defences against the Sith, we are supposed to be at peace. This whole planet will be crawling with Sith in a few hours, if the manor is already we know whatever it is the Master was worried about is in their possession, if we arrive there and it is not then we still have a chance. I'd rather not take the chance and give the Sith the chance to move the person or item we're after..."

When she looked at him he met her eyes then nodded,"We're already not just another Freighter, the Sith can detect us, he will chase us he knows what we are. Your chances for stealth and information gathering ended the moment they detected us...we'll be hunted as soon as he can touch down on the ground. I think your faith in the CorSec is a little misplaced, the sheer number of Imperial troopers in those ships will make this a matter of hours not days."

Serina frowns realizing everyone has left and she's left talking to herself, and as they settle in, she decides to head towards the cockpit too, just in time to catch the general idea of both sides of the conversation. In truth she can see merit's in both sides of the argument, so she looks towards Seely, deferring to the highest ranked officer to make the call.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

"I thought you didn't know anything about Corellia?"

Oriana glances over at Hector as she says this, although her words are clearly for the Jedi, and her gaze shifts smoothly to Duran to punctuate the question.  "News flash: It isn't the Skyfisher those Sith locked on, it was the Jedi presence on board, and as much as I might think CorSec's a bunch of intergalactic bastards, Smuggling Interdiction Division knows their stuff.  I assume the rest of them do too."

She shrugs, spinning around in her chair again and returning her attention to the console in front of her.  There was a fine line between boldness and stupidity, she knew.  Smugglers lived on it.  But they knew nothing about what they were supposed to be at Ussol Manor to do, and the pessimist in her said it was just as likely that the old Zabrak had felt a disturbance because there was some kind of Sith presence already there.  For all they knew, blindly walking up to the front door could be a trap, but arguing about it wasn't going to do a damn bit of good.

"Slow and dangerous isn't nearly as fun," she mutters under her breath.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

"I don't know anything about the place, but I do know about the number of Sith we just evaded and how the defence was faring. I presume the ground forces will have the same problem."

He smiled at her 'newsflash',"I have no doubt they have locked onto us, and so they should be able to find us with their abilities in the force. Or at least if they are trained properly they should be able to."

He shrugs as she speaks about the Smuggling division of CorSec,"Yes, I'm sure they are, but did they manage to catch you?" Chuckling he added,"They may be excellent at Security but they are not an army and they are not equipped to deal with one...or at least they shouldn't be."

He sighed as she cut him off, facing away from him and too the console,"We don't have to land close and go in guns blazing you know? We can land their and then sneak up. I just don't want to have to fight our way through the Imperial forces once they land, if they see a lightsaber that will draw the Sith onto us, just as surely as their ability to sense us will, at least we can obscure ourselves with the force."

Knowing she most likley wasn't listening he also nodded at the Captain,"It is up to Captain Komad though." He at least had no problem following orders.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Now all strapped up for war, Seely steps back into the cockpit as Duran finishes talking, "If they're after us, it won't matter how close we land; the Sith will find us whether we hide or not.  Every second we waste is another chance that the Sith close their fist around this planet and us.  I don't think the Corellians stand a chance without proper Republic support.  Unless they got a message out to the Republic, the most they'll do is to slow the invaders down and maybe divert their attention away from us."

The Captain has to think about this for a moment, "Of course, if we land too close and any hostile personnel that may be present at the manor can find us and blast us pretty quickly.  Needless to say, we want to be close so we can approach quickly enough but not too close."

She sighs, making sure her holdout blaster was kept nice and tight in its hidden holster, "That said, we do not want to skip on our chance to use the element of surprise.  Everyone on the planet is going to be worried about the Sith, not just us.  If there are Sith in the Manor, they're not going to be expecting us as long as we're careful.  However, if we move too slowly, our chance to act and escape is gone, and then we'll have to get off the planet with that fleet ready to stop us."

Seely looks to the others , "I have two questions: one, can we find any close landing pads that aren't in sight of the Manor?  Two, any objections?"

The droid's cursory scan for information on the manor and its owner does not provide anything new.

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Sitting back in his Captain's chair while everyone bickered around him, Hector merely kept them on course descending into the atmosphere.  They would be over Coronet about now, aiming to dip in low outside the city on course for the manor.  He already had an idea where they would be touching down - given all the arguments he was hearing, this made the most sense.  Plus, well, he was the one flying.  It wasn't like they could stop him - and his choice was aimed at being the safest.

"Here's what we're gonna do,"
he announced, glancing over at the others.  "I believe Oriana is correct - the Sith did not lock on to our ship, they locked on to you, our two Jedi.  Wherever you two go, they will follow.  However, given that we just flew through their targets and into the atmosphere, they're not likely to have the ship itself on their screens anymore.  Now..."  He flipped a few switches, adjusting the stabilizers for a smoother in-atmosphere flight.

"Given that we want a ship to get off the planet with, and that we know the Sith will be able to track you, here's what my suggestion is: we find a clearing, or a landing pad near the manor and drop off the two Jedi, Seely, the droid, and perhaps our Medic, if our Commander deems it necessary.  Then, with you all en route to the Manor, Oriana and I will take the ship to another location and hide it.  A clearing in the forest, perhaps, not too far from the manor.  That way, if the Sith are tracking you and not the ship, they won't be able to find us immediately."

Looking now to Seely, he grinned. "Thoughts?  We have a few minutes still to decide.  If you all would prefer me to land the ship in the manor's main courtyard and head in guns blazing, I can do that too.  It would certainly be the fastest way in.  In any case, if we go with my idea, then all you need to do is give me a signal - I'm sure you Jedi can manage something like that.  I can then pick you up just about anywhere, provided you can get outside."

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

Oriana blinks, her attention snapping back to the present conversation.  Since turning away a short bit ago, she's been staring out through the front windows without really seeing any of the planet skimming by beneath the belly of the Skyfisher.  Her fingers freeze in place, poised over the control panel that they've been idly drumming upon, and she slowly swivels herself around to face the group.

"Both options seem equally favorable," she starts off, her voice sounding somewhat distant, but quickly shifting to her regular tone.  Behind the blank orange facade of her glasses, she flashes a brilliant grin.  "Either way, Hector and I should keep the Skyfisher ready for dust-off at a moment's notice, though."

Re: Chapter One:  In a Manor of Speaking

"Either option preserves the ship.  I think Sergeant Ryo should come with the ground team; we're more likely to meet resistance than you are, in all of this chaos.  You put us down and keep the ship safe.  If you can't do that, well, they'll be blasting or spacing all of us before very long," Seely says, looking towards the others, "I suggest you have your weapons ready, though.  The Sith tend to negotiate with breaching charges when it comes to civilian and non-combatant vessels."
