In reply to GM (msg # 1):

Took a look at Taken 2, cast, trailer, etc.  I have to say I'm really looking forward to it.  It's a little odd in that the villain is the goofy guy from Eurotrip, the guy in Bratislava who finally gives the kids a ride to Berlin, the one whose favorite new show is Miami Vice(he wasn't talking about the remake)

Of course, I know this man better as Boris the Bullet Dodger from snatch.  Good character actor, was even a homeless guy in Batman Begins.

Plot is fairly solid I think, at least looks like it has potential.  Marco's(guy he electrocutes) dad is out for revenge.

Now Avengers has been seen, this is my most anticipated movie of the year.  Oh, it is written by Luc Besson, who wrote the first one, and I do love Luc Besson movies.

Each a loss in her own way.  2 stunning ladies.  We weep for more like them.  Or at least for those ladies we have to carry themselves a little more like these two prime examples of femininity.  Strong, proud, feminine.  Radiantly women without selling themselves short, or selling themselves as something they weren't.

Re: Off topic

In reply to GM (msg # 4):

so I just discovered something strange to me, slightly disturbing.

Mermeia Holographic Wow, from SW Christmas Special, was played by Diahann Carroll, who would later be a mainstay of Dynasty, yay, but who I know best as June from White Collar.

Who knew? For the record, this is her birthday. Happy birthday June!

Also Happy B-day to J. Michael Straczynski, writer of Babylon 5, Chief Girabaldi's b-day was yesterday, red-headed commander who took over after Boxleitner's b-day today.

Donald Sutherland turns older today.  And Phyllis Diller turns 95.  In '05 she wrote an autobiography entitled Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse.

Finally, Today is also the anniversary of the birth of one of the great thespians of our time.  An actor of such verve, passion, and machismo, only Germans can stand him.  Yes, like a fine wine, David Hasselhoff ages ever closer to perfection.  Or vinegar.

To celebrate, all characters in my game have a desire to run across a beach while wearing clothing to very obviously promote their best features.

Things overheared on RPol

In reply to GM (msg # 21):

Rand Sulac: I'm just sayin', Selnar, it ain't fair.  Our game stalls and we're stuck on this metal hunk o' junk gettin' shot at on a bug infested world listening to Kimon warble so much I personally hate each and every one of the Lichens, their friends, relatives, and neighbors. Oh, and we got Reglia's yellin'.

Selnar:And what's yer point? Or are you just belly-aching again?
A singer in a smok-y room! Smella wine and cheeap perfuuuume!

My point? Well, look at that BlackWing 2 game.  It stalls, and where does that Jussik boy get stuck? In a posh bedroom with a full wet bar and a slutty twilek chick.

For  a moment there is no sound other than the heavy metal footfalls and blaster fire.
Even the singing has momentarily stopped as all ears are processing this thought, as they dodge blasters and bugs in bloody Geonosis, surrounded by a bunch of ugly ass guys.

Kimon:Hey Rand? Aren't all Twilek chicks kinda slutty?

Rand spits in disgust and retorts: Not compared to that one.

Selnar looks over at Rand, mind racing Well yutz! It's almost enough to drive a man bad isn't it?

I always laugh at Mark for this, but since I've been playing Brutal Legend and rediscovering my love of heavy metal, I decided to look Jack Black up on IMDB.  It's amazing how much stuff he's been in, all the way back to 1984.  He was even in an episode of Touched by an Angel of all things!  My mind is officially blown now.

Case of stupidity

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 34):

Why in the sphincter of stupidity, do people always read from ancient evil texts aloud?!

Mummy is on, she does it, raises Imhotep.  Evil Dead 1 &2, in the first one they listen to a recording of an archaeologist reading from Necronomicon, which raises evil spirits, which also means when he read it they raised evil spirits.  In the sequel, sortof sequel, dumbass girl reads the words.  Cabin in the words, dumbass girl reading the diary of evil pagan cannibal hillbillies, thus raising a family of evil pagan cannibal hillbilly zombies.

You get the picture. Have these people lost the ability to read Silently?

Do the forces of evil intentionally target less than intelligent idiots with no internal monologue?

I understand writers need something to propel the plot.  But really, it's along the lines of people suddenly developing a case of the stupids just to screw stuff over and progress storyline.

In conclusion, if I am ever n a group in anything resembling a creepy setting (cemetery, old creepy houses, ruins, caves, Chuck E Cheese) and some moron starts reading something strange and unusual out loud.  Fuck it.  What Would Mike Milligan Do?  Shoot 'em in da face.  Oh yeah, and double tap.

Anyone else just get an image of Mike shooting a large Mouse in the face with a double barrel in a Pizza restaurant and knocking into a pool of those multi-colored balls with children screaming, not realizing he just kept them all from becoming a bunch of flesh eating freaks?

You're welcome.

Holiday Reminder

I know I told you about this, but here's a reminder to put you in the Christmas spirit.

My own mother, who is in no way, shape, form, or fashion either a rocker or metal head rather enjoyed the selections I let her hear from Twisted Sister's Christmas album.

O Come all ye faithful, silver bells, and Deck the Halls are probably my favorite, but a lot of them are good.  Mom didn't appreciate Heavy Metal Christmas, but that's expected.  O Come...almost sounds like a rock anthem to my ears.

The main thing is takes the same old sugary, mealy-mouthed tired christmas songs we only hear at this time of year, but still cringe at, and mixes in a little something new.  All in all, I rate this an Armadillo Up!

Here's another one for you.  Apparently, as well as being an awesome guitarist and pretty decent singer, Zakk Wylde is also a pianist and plays several other instruments.  Anyway, here's Black Label Society's version of "The First Noel."  It wasn't really what I expected, apparently they play a lot of sweet and mellow stuff as well as the 80-proof butt-kickings we're used to.

And here's Zakk's tribute to Dimebag Darrell, not a Christmas song, but while we're on the subject of BLS, why not?

ok, finished the movie.  Only way I can say it is this: F**k I love this film.  Of course, it turns out to have been directed by Luc Besson, screenplay co-written by him, starring DeNiro and tommy Lee Jones, oh and Michelle Pfeiffer in a mob comedy.  I mean, crap, it's a 7 before the title rolls.

But really, it is actually an introspective, deep experiment in the exploration of the depth, meaning, and usage of the word F**k. From F**k - this pasta is amazing o my lovely and talented wife, to F**k - wiseguys are trying to kill us!

I'll watch it again in a few days to see if I still enjoy it so much.  Which would be odd, two of my favorite comedies being semi-comedic mob movies (You kill me, which is more organized crime, not the Mob in the strictest sense, but you know what i mean)

Saturday would be tough for me to manage, and I'd have to leave pretty early.

Star Wars trailer made in the style of modern trailers, I think specifically Guardians otG

whoever edited it together did a great job, I've seen these movies how many times?  But the way the "trailer" was edited made some of the scenes a little funnier, like when Wedge says Look at the size of that thing!

In reply to GM (msg # 72):

Yeah, so I just said this to Mom & Dad.

Their looking into buying a meat slicer, and it suggested a bottle of oil to go with it, they asked what you use it for, and without thinking, I told my mother father how you use the oil.

I guess it could have been worse, no kids were here, but i got embarrassed badly enough myself.

The Onion

In reply to GM (msg # 74):

Apparently The Onion holds an event every year where they select 25 songs, then get bands to come in, pick one, and cover it.  Once covered, it is off the list, no repeats.  This past year, GWAR got stuck with Billy Ocean's Get out of My Dreams.

kinda funny

Movie review

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 78):

Ok, got 3of them for ya.

Muppets Most Wanted.  If you like the Muppets and the previous film, it's good.  I like the songs, on the whole, better in this one.

Snowpiercer.  Wow. I really don't know what else to say about this movie except a small spoiler: Humanity is screwed. Human made ice age and the only human survivors are on board an excentric millionaire's train he re-engineered to be self-sustaining.  The closer to the front, the more important you are and better you live, the people who were allowed on at the last live in the last car.  Chris Evans decides to do something about it.

The third movie is truly a piece of art.  I started to put Snowpiercer here, it is the more important film, but this one is on a level all its own.  Yes, I am speaking of Sharknado 2: The Second One.

I kid you not, I sat and watched this travesty with my parents.  It is so over the top ridiculous that I started to believe Elvis really is in a retirement home fighting monsters.

Mark McGrath, you know, from that signing group that gave us I Just Want to Fly is in it.  The guy from Beverly Hills 90210, no, not the 2 who went on to have semi-careers, the one who had to be in 2 sharknado movies to get a paycheck.

Vivica A. Fox is in it, and she had some of the best(?) scenes.  A shark is flying towards her, as she turns, the white dude has a sword in a scabbard.  She grabs the hilt, and spins in slow motion, dissecting the shark.  But wait.  It wasn't so much slow motion as it was the actress just slowing down to match the animation speed of the shark.  I s*** you not.  Her clothes are being whipped by the wind in real time, but she's moving slowly.

That wasn't the only time they did so.  Blond girl gets her hand bit off, jury rigs a circular saw on her hand.  Why not a chain saw?  Fiance's greedy ass took it first.  The only thing I saw keeping this from being the new King of B-Movies, was the lack of Bruce Campbell.  Hopefully he is now above such crap, but I doubt it.

The oddest part of the movie, to me, Mom and Dad loved it, is the crew from the Weather Channel are in the movie.  Stefani Abrams, who they watch every morning, is there, Al Roker and Matt Lauer stab a shark to death with an umbrella.

New York mayor Bloomberg is in this thing.  how in the name of Cthulu's sphincter did they get these people?

This article is mostly for Mike.  Looks like SyFy is getting Wolfgang Peterson to help them turn Old Man's War into a tv series.

I think the series name will be Ghost Brigade, in the article they said it sounds sexier.  I can see that.  They also promised they wont skip book one, they just thought the title of book 2 worked better.

That ain't how it goes

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 61):

Ok, finally watch Winter Soldier.

I liked it, good story, fairly obvious we'll be seeing Bucky again.  I'd like to see Cap 3 with Steve, Falcon looking for Bucky, that could work.

What they really need is a 3rd hero though, played by me! S*** I'd play that short fat guy from Alpha Flight if that's what it took.  Puck(?)

Did anyone else notice Fury's grave? Engraved with The Path of the Righteous man...
 Ezekiel 25:17.

Which of course is the verse Sam quotes in Pulp Fiction.  Excuse me, misquotes.  Ezekiel 25:17 reads - And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them. (KJV)

Go read all of Exekiel 25, no path of righteous men.  Oh well.  The original quote, using part of Ez 25:17 and starting with The path of the righteous man is beset...is from Chiba the Bodyguard, starring Sonny Chiba (Hattori Hanzo in Kill Bill 1) and the line ends with and you will know I am Chiba the Bodyguard when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Now that's some cold s*** to say to a man before you pop a cap in his ass.

For the Record

In reply to GM (msg # 83):

One of my favorite Robin Williams movies was not exactly a comedy, though it had some humor.

Jacob the Liar is the tale of residents in a Jewish ghetto waiting transport to a concentration camp.Jacob hides a young girl, which leads to a rumor he has a radio, which he doesn't.  But the fictitious reports bring hope to the community.

his narration at the beginning starts like this:

Hitler goes to a fortune teller and asks her when he will die. You will die on a Jewish holiday. The old woman tells him.  Which one?  Whatever day you die will be a Jewish holiday.

It appears his death has opened up awareness and talking points about depression, which is important. I know the struggle of living with depression.  Though I can't say mine is as bad as his, how should I know?

Dad's favorite Robin Williams film is Hook.  Bob Hoskins is also gone from us.

I didn't like everything of his, but some of it, wow.

You are bad influences on me.

In reply to GM (msg # 87):

I'm in a game and the GM gives us this situation, paraphrased:

You are eating lunch in the college cafeteria, violence outside, doors blow open, equivalent of magical darkness dropped on the room.  You hear screaming, then the sound of automatic weapons and a different kind of screaming.  What do you do?

My first response?  What kind of tables and chairs are in the room, and how far from the kitchen am I? I already know there isn't construction equipment.

Second response? Cause a distraction to allow the others in the room to escape or jump the bad guys.  Unfortunately, this is not a game system with thermal detonator, power armor, or allen reglia to yell at them.

started watching a random episode of Leverage.  It was the one where they go to a costume party as detectives, guy dies.

The interesting thing, which I only noticed this time, Nate shows up as Ellery Queen, who he describes as the greatest detective ever. How the hell do you figure that?  Oh, Ellery Queen was played by Jim Hutton, Timothy Hutton's dad.  That's right, his character dressed up as the actor's daddy.
