Don't Fear the Reaper

The last time everyone was gathered in the office, Israel handed in his gun and badge.

Already back in the service, the gun and badge are waiting on his desk.

As the two of you enter, Ariel, Alec, and Angelica are already being debriefed in Sergei's office.

Ruth: There you two are! The others were called in early for something.  And I'm suppose to go talk to the boss after you two, alone. She is obviously a little nervous about this prospect.

As the others exit, you enter the office.Gentlemen, have a seat.  We are working on identifying the men responsible for Mr. Jehuti's death.  We are also tracking down the items lost, I have good agents on these matters, and need you, for the time being, on something else.  Work has been piling up while we were away.

The Wardens have passed on a case for us to look into. A teenage girl has gone missing in Edinburgh.  Apparently the girl is known to have talent, but not so much they have approached her yet, just kept an eye on her.  In addition, there is a young man at the same school suspected of black magic.  The two of you are to go and investigate the matter.

Re: Don't Fear the Reaper

Jacob tries to hide it, but he's obviously still a bit rattled from the last couple of days, especially from the death curse.

Do we know what sort of black magic the boy is suspected of, sir?

Re: Don't Fear the Reaper

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 2):

What is the American saying? He was spending time with people from the wrong side of the track? Except n this case possibly not people.  Summonings, bindings, black magic.  If the boy, Sean O'Connell, did kidnap the girl, the first guess is to use her as a ritual sacrifice.

The girl's name is Rose McCready, the folder includes the high school they attend, respective class schedules, known associates including friends and relatives.  We also have an idea of where they regularly shopped or, erm, hang out.  Of course, feel free to approach from whichever direction you wish.  Local police have sent what they know, and willing to cooperate in this matter.  They believe you to be experts in occult rituals and alternative religious beliefs.  That sort of thing.  Also the chief's niece was one of the children you saved from the faeries last year, so he respects you have your own area of expertise and are good at it.

He checks his desk, eyeing a memo accusingly, picks it up, gives it a cursory read, coughs, and adds,"Director Bres also wanted me to add the importance of a smooth win on this one.  No multinational military operations.  No explosions or people, and for God's sake not a teenager, run over with a steamroller, no forests exploding in the middle of town.  This case came from word of mouth.  The chief heard what we can do, and you did it well, more or less, and he is trusting us to help now.

This job, gentlemen, is unfortunately not just saving the victim and stopping the bad guy.  There are a certain amount of politics involved as well.  Public relations if you will.

One last thing.  Agent Levy, I am about to inform your sister of an appointment with a representative of the Wizard Council.  Pretty standard stuff, they'll check her for the gift, test her potential, and tell her the Laws and the importance of not telling anyone about them.  By the way, if you tell someone about the Council do they go and kill that person?  Alias, I love that show.  I swear they modeled Sloane after two people I...use to know.  Pretty sure they're both dead now! Not to worry!

Anyway, the meeting is generally not done with relatives present, though I can arrange for me or Wizard Horace to be there if it would make you feel better.  Young Timothy will also be tested, his will be a bit more thorough for obvious reasons.

(Glasgow to Edinburgh is roughly an hour away.  I'm assuming Williams will be taking the bike as it is a nice day.  Levy has the option of riding bi...er, shotgun in the sidecar, drive a car, or take the rail.  The line between the two is said to be the best in Scotland. It doesn't so much matter as I just need to know.  No one else is coming unless you go get Duke, which definitely means Williams isn't taking the train.)

Here's that moment that GMs dread...

Sir, if we're supposed to keep this job low key, how 'bout I go into the school undercover?  I figure a believable cover would be for me to pose as a substitute teacher, especially if it's Physical Education or whatever the equivalent is in Scotland or the U.K.  That way Levy would be free to look around while I provide distraction.  And if it hits the fan, I ain't all that far away.

Whatever we decide, I'm taking the bike and Duke with me.  If nothing else, I figure Duke can possibly recognize a warlock by scent/aura better than I can.

Another plot bites the dust..

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 4):

Undercover as a teacher? I'll make the call, you can go separately and report to the principal's office, they will be expecting you.

Levy, you may want to question parents, if Williams has the school covered, or use his cover to help investigate the school.  I trust the two of you to know what you are doing, and will supply what support you need.  Speaking of which, if you need, consult with Horace, he might be able to help you whip up a token or spell to help. That's what I pay that old skin flint for after all.

Oops, forgot this thread was open...

Israel is in a fairly good mood this morning.  Is the past few weeks he has rescued his sister, cleansed his family's former home, helped the spirit of his aunt move on, uncovered family heirlooms, rescued Jehuti Jr., "Thor stomped" a vamp, smashed villains with construction equipment, and provided some minor assistance in Jacob killing his family's nemesis.  From his perspective, things are going pretty good.  He does make a note to have Ben begin to do some research on Death curses, but Israel is riding high, and therefore confident they'll be able to take care of Jacob's problem.

Ruth:
There you two are! The others were called in early for something.  And I'm suppose to go talk to the boss after you two, alone. She is obviously a little nervous about this prospect.

"Don't worry kid, he doesn't bite...as long as he's already had breakfast, at least." Israel jests as he heads to the office.  He adds with a wink before leaving. "Besides, he usually saves the KGB torture for your third or forth meeting at least."

In the office:

Sergei:
"Director Bres also wanted me to add the importance of a smooth win on this one.  No multinational military operations.  No explosions or people, and for God's sake not a teenager, run over with a steamroller, no forests exploding in the middle of town.  This case came from word of mouth.  The chief heard what we can do, and you did it well, more or less, and he is trusting us to help now.

Israel jokingly grumbles under his breath. "Never let us have any fun..."

Sergei:
"One last thing.  Agent Levy, I am about to inform your sister of an appointment with a representative of the Wizard Council...the meeting is generally not done with relatives present, though I can arrange for me or Wizard Horace to be there if it would make you feel better.

"I'm not really worried about it. The council and I are generally on good terms right now and as far as I know Ruth hasn't actually used any powers yet - so there has been no chance to piss off the higher-ups.  Horace is more apt to get into an argument with their rep, since he's never really hid his disdain for the council, and, no offense, but I think you still scare the crap out of Ruth, so I doubt that would make things any more comfortable.  If you want to keep an I on things from a distance though, I wouldn't complain."

Jacob Williams:
Sir, if we're supposed to keep this job low key, how 'bout I go into the school undercover?  I figure a believable cover would be for me to pose as a substitute teacher, especially if it's Physical Education or whatever the equivalent is in Scotland or the U.K.

"Williams as a P.E. teacher? Oy, I feel sorry for that class.  Just what all the lazy Highs School kids want...a drill instructor," Israel says with a smirk.

Sergei:
Levy, you may want to question parents, if Williams has the school covered, or use his cover to help investigate the school.  I trust the two of you to know what you are doing, and will supply what support you need.  Speaking of which, if you need, consult with Horace, he might be able to help you whip up a token or spell to help. That's what I pay that old skin flint for after all.

"Sounds good.  I'll take a company vehicle and head to the parent's house, get their side of the story, and see if I can surreptitiously get some hair samples or the like and throw together a general tracking spell."

Israel has the skills to do create a decent tracking skill on his own, but I'll grab any helpful ingredients from Horace.  I'll also take his help on whipping up a couple of potions if possible - a stimulant potion and an escape potion.  Kidnapping cases are time sensitive - I don't want to have to spend a lot of time sleeping, hence the stimulant.  The escape potion is to make sure one of us can get her out of wherever she is being held without having to worry about troublesome things like walls and doors.

Jacob Williams as - Gym Teacher Man

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 6):

Mr. Connelly: Welcome Mr. Williams, I'm the Vice-principal, Mr. Connelly.  We got the call earlier, and everything is ready for you.  Any help you may need, just let me or any staff know.  Three missing students...we certainly want them found safely and this nightmare over.

Detective Israel Levy

While Jacob tortured children, Israel makes his way to the parent's home.  He straightens his coat, and tries to look professional.  He leaves the staff in the car, and puts on his "serious investigator face" rather than his "goofy office face" or his "frighting Mossad face" and knocks on the door. "Interpol," he says loud enough to be heard inside.

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 8):

(way to misspell your own name "Great Detective")

The door opens to reveal a woman who is normally attractive, but appears to have spent the morning in tears. I'm Mrs. McCready.  Please come in.  My husband is at work this morning, but should return soon. You say you are with Interpol?  Then that awful boy really did kidnap my daughter for his pagan rites?

The home has a warm feeling.  This is definitely a home, where families have started, children raised and loved through the good and bad.  The home is also well furnished. Dr. McCready's practice has done quite well for his family.

Jacob Williams:  1st Marine Anti-Obesity Division

Jacob looks mildly surprised as he takes out a pad and pencil:

We were only told of two missin' kids, Sean O'Connell and Rose McReady.  When did the third go missin'?  And what can you tell me about these kids?

Jacob tries to get through this interview as quickly as possible without cutting any corners so he can go on into the rest of the school to check things out.

Investigation:  2(+1)=3

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 10):

to Jacob

Let's see, Mclanahan, Patrick, his mother called the police this morning, who in turn called us.  There are several more students absent, but the authorities are looking into it. Some may be simply sick, there's usually one or two playing hooky, bad day for that.  If any are missing, we should know about it soon.

You can quickly determine Patrick Mclanahan is a Varsity player for the soccer, basketball, and swimming teams.  He's also on the diving team.  His grades are above average but not outstanding, he's popular
Connelly sits at his desk. To be honest, I don't know what they have in common if you look at all three.  Rose is a cheerleader, sure, and Patrick an athlete, but I asked the faculty to ask around a little, discreetly, of course, and neither boy dated Rose, as far as we know, or is part of the same social circles, though an athlete and cheerleader probably have more contact with one another than with O'Connell, who has few friends and isn't part of any extracurriculars.

to Israel
After speaking with Rose's mom, she shows you the upstairs, and points out Rose's room and bathroom.  The phone rings and she returns downstairs for the moment. Long enough for you to snag a few hairs from the hairbrush.

Walking into her room, it looks more or less like you expected.  A poster of a girl band, and one of MARK! the acting/singing sensation. There are a few books, mostly thrillers, no occult book of rituals or such.  A few pictures of her and friends are stuck in the mirror behind the dresser.

(for a more thorough search or to snag something else I'll need rolls and specifics.)

In reply to Jacob Williams (msg # 12):

I can give you the addresses if you need them.  I believe Rose and Patrick come from what we would call stable, loving families.  Both parents, fairly well off. Sean lives with his stepmother.  I don't know too much, I think both parents dead.  There is enough money to get by on, if not well off.
