*A family insignia necklace that he keeps tucked inside his robe against his chest.

*A silver promise ring (a N'Tel'Quess wouldn't be able to recognize what it is unless they knew about Elven cuture)

*50 gold

*An unenchanted quarterstaff of elven-make. The wood is a very hard and sturdy dusky white. The shaft is slim, yet very strong. Along it's length are ever so subtly carved Elven Espruar sigils. At the top of the staff is a large opal crystal set into the wood as if it were grown out from it. There are small, claw like appendages of the wood that curve around the lower parts of the orb.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

I mentioned this to Nym in a PM, but wanted to let everyone else know as well: please put your proficiency score next to the proficiency in parentheses. ie: Etiquette (17). This will help keep us from having to constantly go back to the books and figure out what you're rolling against.

All character sheets also need to have a combat section. In here you have AC, THCA0, Max and Current HP, Current XP, saving throws, and stats for all of your weapons.
  * For AC, please include the total, and then break it out, so I can see what comes from Dex, from Armor, from a shield, and from any kind of magic spell or item.
  * For weapons, include your modified THAC0 (for Str or Dex bonuses, specialization, magic bonuses, lack of proficiency, anything permanent), the weapon's range if any, and its damage, including any permanent bonuses from things like strength and specialization. We're not going to be using weapon speeds or casting times, unless people want to.

Spellcasters have to include a section for which spells they have currently memorized.

Everyone gets 1d6x10 gp in "petty cash." Those of you who have been wintering in Scornubel have a room at an inn of your choice, paid up for the next month. If you're just passing through, you don't.

Up in the top left corner of the Rpol screen is the Character Details button. This is where you'll be posting your character sheets once they're done. You also are able to add a portrait, a two-line biography, and a character description. Rpol has a large selection of portraits to choose from, and you can upload more if you wish. In the biography, please note your Current/Max HP (so: 20/20), and update as you take damage. The character description is available to everyone, so put obvious-to-all details about appearance, size, race, that sort of thing in here. It doesn't have to be an essay.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

Well, a pbp does actually lend itself to them. I am planning on using individual initiative that changes each round. I guess it's my fencing background; I know how quickly things can change and get confusing in a fight. Basically, each combat post you write will have at the very end the next round's initiative roll. If we end up using weapon speeds and casting times, you'll add it to the roll and give me the total number. Then I'll have everyone go in the proper order.

Ok, quick update about magical items. I just noticed that ioun stones are 300 XP each, regardless of what they do. So, I need to rule out a couple of them: pale green (+1 experience level), lavender and green (major spell turning), and vibrant purple (stores spells). You can take any of the others, if you wish.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

Putting up what I have on the character sheet for now. I still need to pick a species enemy and finish up the gear. Have to dig out the appropriate book (DM Guide?) unless anyone has a good pre-set package of magical gear for a ranger type character handy.

Hmm. That's kind of odd. There used to be a "Character Sheet" link below the main box within the Character Details page. Right now all I see is a link to Change Biography, Edit Description, and Select a Portrait. I checked the Border Kingdoms game we migrated over from, the Edit Character Sheet link is in the appropriate place.

I'm fine with weapon speeds, casting speed, and round-by-round initiative. A little more unpredictability does add a little something to the otherwise slower pace of a PbP.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

Ok, I think this one is my fault. I assumed you could just create character sheets yourself, but it looks like I have to do it for you. Everyone please check Character Details, there should be character sheets for everyone. Nym and Coryn, I pasted the current versions of your character sheets from this thread. Everyone else got a placeholder, but they're all user editable, so you should be able to add more as needed.

Everyone please check to make sure I fixed this properly.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3616210/
For walking around money.

Updated my character sheet.  changed one spell and added a buckler.

Issue #1
I (personally) never liked weapon speeds, casting times, and damage type/armor type modifiers.  I felt like it kind of complicated things unnecessarily.  That being said, I'm fine with experimenting with it.

Issue #2
While I don't mind having a new initiative each round, what I really don't want to have to do is wait on everyone to roll initiative and post it, and then we all have to wait on everyone to post an initiative roll, and then we all do another post for our actions.  PbP can fall apart in a hurry if we're waiting too long.  What I'd prefer is for the DM to roll our initiative for us and let us know what order we're going in each round.  In combat situations, 1 post is preferable to 7.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

In reply to Yurkal Salarka (msg # 39):

Yurkal Salarka, Description when Met in "civil"
Yurkal is a young, good Looking calishite.

His Skin is of a soft brown color, as usual for his homeland. He has Sparkling Grey/Green eyes, which can place a look which is used to spread authority, despite his young appearance.
He also has long Black hair, very well kept.
His Body, and the movements, is the one of a fighter obviously, and there is evidence of big packs of muscles below the fine clothing, a dark red Shirt and Pants, and comfortable, well made, leather boots together with a black Sash holding a silver medaillon with the Sigil / sign of Tyr.
His hands are well-cared, but also show signs of a man who uses to ride and fight regularly ( sorry for my english here )
He is not wearing any jewelry at all visible.
He walks upright and the whole figure, over 6 foot and 4 inches, bristles with pride and confidence.

Bound to his back is a massive, two handed scimitar of ancient style, which has a highly decorated Hilt, the bottom of which holds a blue Gemstone finely crafte into, The sword is held by a leather construction squareing on his chest, but made of such good quality and underlaid with Sheeps-fur that it does not seem to bother him at all.
When he sits down, he removes the sword with few fluent movements from his back and places it right next to him.
The sash holds a finely decorated dagger-like ( Jamibiya ) weapon with a curved blade.

As he looks around the room he is quite a presence, not only for his size.

When met armored / on Horse / Traveling:
A big figure, clad in a finely crafted and well maintained Banded Mail, wearing a full ( Great Helm ) Helm, Metal Based, covering the whole Face, only two small slits for the eyes and one small at the mouth, attached to the top approximately one foot long strong horse-tail's hair falling down, and on the side two slender blackened horns from an antilope or similar. A ring of chain is falling down onto the bandes mail all around the Helm, not to leave any skin exposed on the complete head.
In addition to a fine two handed scimitar and a curved Daggeron his belt, he has a shield strapped on his forearm ( or hung on the side of his horse ), Ana an also finely crafted scimitar on his right side.
Strapped to the saddle is a Horseman's mace.
His Right hand Holds a slender light Lance made of dark wood with a long and shining blade on top of it.

His Horse is of a fine breed, of a light grey coloration in the fur, with a pitch-black mane and tail. The horse teems with energy and starts trippling around as soon as the rider lets it happen for one second.
It is obvious that this horse is trained for war ( for skilled observers )

The saddle is a well crafted and maintained war-saddle, which allows attachment of weapons and the stirrup on the right side hold an iron ring to place a lance in, for longer journeys.

Behind the horse is a sturdy mule, with a big scar ( it was attacked by a cougar just in the autumn before he arrived in scornubel while resting ) on his neck and left side of the face.

It carries all kinds of adventuring gear ( look up in equipment on char sheet ) which is tightly strapped onto its pack-saddle together with some more weapons, mainly for fighting on foot, and two lances identically to the one the rider holds.

Depending on the time of the year he either also wears a dark red cloak of fine silk over the armor or, in winter or rain, a heavy brown leather mantle, which can have an interior layer of fine sheep-wool inlaid to protect from the cold.

Re: Nitty Gritty - CharGen

DM, I'm going to make one final change to my NWP selection.  I realize that I haven't quite been in the North long enough to take the Local History proficiency (which seems to be more like knowing people and places in the modern day).  I'm also starting to envision combat tactics and survivability for my character, and realizing that his best attack will be his ranged attacks, and to maintain range it would be helpful to have training in mounted archery (since his bow is a short one anyways).  So I'm going to flip Local History to Land-Based Riding, Horse.

Corym: Ok. Pretty much everyone else in the party is mounted, so that makes a lot of sense. Of course, now you're going to have to find yourself a warhorse, since your riding horse isn't going to like combat very much... :)
