Re: OOC

I'm not really certain what to expect, but it keeps it interesting.  I'm liking it alot.  I feel a little aimless but that is sort of how the early recruiting is supposed to be, I think.

Re: OOC

Minor fixes to skills and character sheet. Based on things Breaker spotted or asked about. Things like Computer listed twice, Electronics not listed etc. Nothing I think impacts existing characters.

Re: OOC

Im planning to time jump ahead shortly. Wanted to give a chance for people, espicially Breaker, to join in the social chat. They game won't only be social chat and we will have guns involved soon.

Edit....

Changed to GM Brygun. Somehow Breaker was at the top of the list where my name normally is.

Re: OOC

I figure I'll move into the existing group of characters sideways if that is alright.

Basically the group I'm currently hanging with are Quitters and Failures. So in a game day or so (whatever works really) I will find myself about to eat alone and will, a bit embarrassingly, ask to join them since they have an unclaimed 4th seat, and transition into their group at that point. If that is alright with everyone?

Just seems to make a bit more sense since I'm coming in just a tad later than everyone else. This allows me to have been present during all previous testing at the Center, but with a different group, and therefore not an active part of the existing storyline up to this point.

Pen and Paper day for me today,  may or may not get on until tomorrow. Feel free after the testing to meet and hang.

Breaker will get one of those wonderful room swaps putting him on the same floor as Taps and Echo.

Re: OOC

Alright, I think I'm using the Dice Roller incorrectly because my post doesn't look like everyone else's. Can someone post the correct formula or whatever I should be using?

I think my final posted version was:
   dice=1d8+<totalled modifiers> memo="<Target Stat>"

All I saw in the message was
   Roll 1d8+<totalled modifiers>

Even after I rolled I did not see the totals posted into the message. So what did I do wrong?

Aww, we wouldn't want you to miss out Brygun! So here, even your Pen & Paper PC should be able to handle this game! I'll even let you go first!

Ah yes... classic GM trick #1... introduce the system in a non-life threatening wa.

Gm trick #2 is the early campaign bar fight to test the combat system.

Re: OOC

Echo:

Checked, all looks good here.

The system does use a linear one die rather than the bell curve of 2+ dice. A reason for that is in gaming the "funner" results are the very high and very low rolls.

The first version used a d6 not a d8 but the same quality check box applies.
1 worst case
2 very poor
3 poor
4 slightly below average
5 sligtly above average
6 good
7 very good
8 best case

All of which is based on the reasonable expectation of the character, skill, equipment, situation, role play etc. All those being "fuzzy" factors an experienced GM pulls together to be able to write the reply post.

An typical person doing routine wants a 4. Those with some training or abilities get a 6. Very difficult results succeed on a 8. Very advanced things happen on a 10.

edit: added that explanation to msg#3 of the rules thread.

In reply to Breaker (msg # 40):

Should I mention that I high school a friend and I in science class used to play a 4x4x4 "tic tac toe tae"?

4 wide, 4 tall with 4 vertical boards. You need to get 4 in a row. Since its an even number there is no super valuable center square.

You sure you want to take me on in tic tac toe tae?

Re: OOC

When posting rolls Im looking for the results like what Sony, Echo and Taps posted.

Breaker the code you put in didn't work in the right way. It actually sets up the dice roller to make a fresh roll. You can cut and paste from the results section of the die roller.

Oh, and orange is used to colour OOC, game mechanics etc in the IC posts.

Re: OOC

The dice roller page lists the die results in a separate box below the main one... after they have been officially rolled.

Re: OOC

Ayup

Need to copy from there.

If you copy the weblink in the browser it sets up make the same roll again. Still need to hit roll to get the fresh number.

The weblink can be handy for some games.

Re: OOC

Ok, I'm still missing something with regards to the dice roller.

I entered the RUBB Code for each roll, posted the message, followed each link and rolled the dice. I thought this would auto-update the posted message.

Am I supposed to Copy & Paste the results from the dice log back into the message and then <orange> tag it?

Re: OOC

yes, you'll need to Orange tag it.  if you highlight the text and then use the "styled text:" option to select orange, it'll do it for you.

I have no clue what the RUBB is, just highlight the roll results from the dice roller log and copy/paste it into the message

19:28, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 3 using 1d8+1. SICON.
19:28, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 8 using 1d8. Moral.
19:27, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 6 using 1d8-1. Astrogation.
19:27, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 3 using 1d8+1. Math.
19:26, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 2 using 1d8. Strength.
19:25, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 8 using 1d8+1. Endurance.

Then add the Orange style after highlighting it all again...

19:28, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 3 using 1d8+1. SICON.
19:28, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 8 using 1d8. Moral.
19:27, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 6 using 1d8-1. Astrogation.
19:27, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 3 using 1d8+1. Math.
19:26, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 2 using 1d8. Strength.
19:25, Yesterday: Breaker rolled 8 using 1d8+1. Endurance.

Is that just a point I can add to one skill/stat, or is that a +1 to all rolls when Taps can reasonably be in a good mood?  ;)

Re: OOC

Thanks for the clear instructions Taps.

RUBB Code are all of the bulletin board commands / instructions used here in RPol. Like <Orange> and <quote> and all the rest. You can find more in the FAQs.

There are separate codes to set up the dice roller's options as seen here: /help/?page=diceroller . Apparently there is no way to perform the roll and post the results inline into the message atomatically though.

Up until your explanation, I thought the Cut&Paste and Orang-ing was being done auto-magically by RUBB Code.
