"I need you to find out where Severin has hobbled off to.  I'm going to try and search his quarters and store room but I want you to try the grounds.  Meet me back in the library in one hour if you haven't found him.  Good luck."  With Vangelis helping him, they might be able to find Severin before the day was completely wasted.  Where has that boy gotten to?

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
Vangelis nodded his head with respect and headed down the hallway to the grounds. As he planned, Othman first checked Severin's quarters. His assistant was not there, but Othman, with his years of experience, almost instantly noticed that he was reading something, and leaved with his book by throwing just a glance at his reading table. In a way, Severin is an easy person to read, Othman thought. Time ticked away as he made his way to the store room, where an odd scenery awaited him. There was a bright, large, PINK IMP in the store room hopping on the tables. Oh, no, a bright pink imp with a bright green headband. It must be a familiar to one of the students, but seriously, why pink? Othman noted this on a corner of his mind to inform one of the masters about this stray imp before leaving for library to see whether Vangelis managed to locate his useless assistant.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
Why would anyone pick pink, unless it was some fiendish prank...  Othman shook his head and made note to mention it to someone before it could get into too much mischief.  Sighing, he was having no luck and thought he might as well swing by some of the rooms by the library before meeting back up with Vangelis.  Perhaps the missing lad was just having a quick, naughty snooze.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
Vangelis arrived just in time, with Severin following him behind. For some reason Severin looked really embarassed. "I found him in the outhouse. I think he has an explanation for this" Severin certainly wasn't looking like he would like to talk about that, yet he began. "Well, I... I'm a man of pure theory, but people began to mock me for not being able to cast even simplest cantrip. So I took this book, "Summoning for Dummies" and tried summoning in the archives, away from prying eyes. But then imps didn't listen to my commands and began wreaking havoc in the archives. Luckily this fellow agreed to help me to defeat imps. Please Master Othman, I beg of you, keep this a secret from other masters! Especially Della Gustera, or he will mock me for an eternity!" He finished in tears. It was a poor sight.

Othman pursed his lips and cocked an eyebrow.  "Are you responsible for that pink imp I found in the store room?  Regardless, both of you, make your way to the archives and fix this mess.  I'm coming along to make sure you don't scamper off again."  Squinting in frustration; he really didn't like having to scold the lad.  "We'll talk about how you can make up for this recklessness.  Pray to the gods above that they don't wreck any irreplaceable documents.  Now move."  Ushering the lads to the archives, he shook his head but took some consolation that Vangelis would more than likely earn a seal for this.

"I already fixed it, Master Othman, also cleaned archives from various spiders and vermin. That's why I couldn't come here earlier. And no, that pink imp belongs to Dolcina, one of the apprentices. She told me her pink imp..." Even Vangelis shown a hint of irritation here "...has run away, and I'll go lure it in his cage, before it causes some mischief. Though why would someone summon a male imp of pink colour, that is a mystery to me..." He hesitated for a moment. "Master Othman, actually, as you may already now, I'm trying to acquire seals from masters, so is there anything I can do for to be qualified for your seal?"

Clever lad...  "Perhaps.  But I want to see the archives for myself.  You lads with me.  There very well might be seals in it for you, lad."  Turning his gaze upon the apologetic Severin, he said, "As for you, well....I'm sure we can find some suitable outcome for your actions.  Now, don't dawdle!"  Striding towards the door, he hoped against hope that Vangelis had done a thorough job but something was niggling the back of his mind and he couldn't bear the thought of not surveying the scene of the crime.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
They began walking across the main hallway to the archives. As they walk, Severin continued in an apologetic tone "This lad has arrived just in time to seize the imps, so there is no permanent harm done to the archive itself." while Vangelis was mostly silent. Severin fixed the broken secret door lever, and they began walking into the secret passage. The entire corridor of the secret passage was a complete mess that Othman could barely hold himself from commenting. Spider and rat carcasses were scattered everywhere, so much that it was easy to step on something and slip for someone not looking down. "Archives are safe, Master Othman, most of the event took place here in the corridors." Severin told, as he weld open the archive door. Well, it was almost looked normal, well, apart from a dozen of chairs placed on top of book shelves. But luckily, the books and other documents seemed to be left untouched.

Taking his time, Othman was not about to trust his archives to one lad eager to earn a prize and another eager to avoid punishment.  Slowly he made his way through, putting chairs back and taking note of where everything was.

OOC: Your research skill provides a bonus here, and for a such a trivial task, it is considered auto-success.

Apart from chairs, everything was in order. It seems either imps didn't have the time to mess with the archive at all, or someone thoroughly arranged this place before Othman came. In any case, nothing was seemed to be missing. As Othman has put the chairs back in their rightful places, only mess left was the stuff in the secret passage, and Othman had already prepared a report of the event in his inner-mind.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
Nodding in satisfaction, Othman turned to the two lads, his face a mask as he pondered just what to do.  Vangelis had done quite the service in clearing out the imps before they could wreak too much havoc.  What to do about the other though...

"All right, lads, off we go.  Severin, I've lost a lot of time today so I'll need you to fetch these and bring them to my study."  He gave the boy a hand scrawled note which had been his whole reason for coming to the archives in the first place.  "Vangelis, let's go see your master."  Leading the adventuresome lad out, he spared one final glance at Severin and pursed his lips.

So much potential...

Looking at the note you given, Severin instantly noticed that some heavier books located at the furthest end of the archive was added on the list. As he threw a painful look at the list, Othman and Vangelis walked out of the archives, to the Master Malvaren's room. Othman softly knocked the door, before entering.

"Oh, Master Othman, how may I help you? Did Vangelis do something wrong?" He threw a scary look at Vangelis for a moment.

"On the contrary, he very well might have saved some priceless books from a rather overzealous student of mine.  I've been very impressed and so I've decided to grant Vangelis a seal to help him progress along his journey.  I wanted to give it to him with you as a witness so there could be no confusion.  Vangelis?"  With that, Othman provided the lad the coveted seal, happy to be able to repay him so quickly for his efforts.

Othman pursed his lips in thought and shook his head.  "Not at the moment.  Should something come up, though, I may very well look for you.  Good luck, Vangelis."  Offering Malvaren a courteous nod, he made his exit and slowly ambled his way back to the archives.  No sense letting Severin off the hook too soon.

Severin was pushing a cart filled with some heavy books when Othman place foot in the archives. "I'm almost... *huff* *huff* ... done with the books you listed Master Othman. Just this one..." he picked up a book named "The History of Uldret and Pagain" "... and they are all ready now. *huff* *huff*" He was breathing hard, probably because he was carrying some heavy books around. "Is there anything else, Master Othman?"

Giving the lad a good, long look, Othman came to the decision that he had been punished enough.  "That will be all, Severin.  Go clean yourself up and get some food in you.  We'll start collating tomorrow.  Off with you now!"  With a sigh, he sat down and began the real work at his desk, quill in hand.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
For the first time in the day, Othman found himself free from disturbance as he was working on the books. After a pair of pleasant, uneventful hours, Othman decided to take a little break. The last book he skimmed was about two prominent people in the academy's history, Uldret and his murderer, Pagain. While the story is mildly disturbing, it was also a decent example of how ambition and power can corrupt a person. Revising the academy library rules, he quickly noticed that there should be a copy of it in the Library of Apprentices. But latest report from Icarius shows no trace of this book. Why was it missing?

It wouldn't be any odd at all for a common person not to notice the commotion outside the window, especially when preoccupied with thoughts. But Othman was not a common person, quite opposite, he was renowned for his attention to detail. Therefore, he quickly noticed the event in the garden. The priceless Nujao trees were audibly battling again.

Nujao trees, which were a pair of gifts from Madavas, mages of the Yuan dimension, were beautiful. But not in March or September. Othman had already made a search about these trees when he first saw them, and instantly noticed that they should have planted apart from each other, as the Blue Nujao trees absolutely despise the Pink Nujao trees. Being planted next to each other, this pair began to battle with each other every March and September. They have ability to spawn branches that can animate themselves and attack to an enemy that would damage the trees.

Normally Kalios or Xivarius would prepare a special fertiliser that would sedate the trees, but it seems they aren't aware of this situation yet. Suddenly Othman spotted Vangelis, this time neutralizing the branches before applying the fertilizer. It seems that either Kalios or Xivarius sent him to this task. This would be a task that can worth a seal, Othman noted to himself, and considering Horatio's seal was a must in final examination approval, this lad should have already gathered three seals that he needs for approval. Pretty fast.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
Othman paid steady attention to Vangelis.  This lad really was keen.  A part of him felt a tinge of jealousy at just how boldly the boy went about taking care of the trees.  He had always been studious and observant, not necessarily bold and daring and seeing it in this lad made him wonder just what might have been...

Shaking his head, he filed away the thought to check on the book and went in search of Horatio to let him know just what potential Vangelis held.

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
As usual, Horatio was just outside the arena, loudly testing one of the students "No Dolcina, you must shoot where your enemy will be, not where it was." Apparently, Dolcina was taking a combat test from Horatio, which seems to be going miserably for her. "You can't dodge it for an eternity, you must strike it down!" It seems Dolcina couldn't attack and dodge at the same time. After a miscalculated attack, one of Horatio's crystal scorpions managed to land a ranged attack on Dolcina, which caused Horatio banish them all. "You are pretty good at dodging as long as there is someone else shooting down your enemies. Anxiety and feeling of danger are not bad feelings, but only suitable for blood magic, which belongs to melee branch. You tend to stay ranged, which benefits from soul magic, yet it demands tranquillity and calmness. You should be more confident and relaxed, and less scared and panicked, in order to masterfully strike with soul magic." Horatio then noticed Othman's approach, and greeted him warmly, before turning to Dolcina again. "Hello there Master Othman! As I said Dolcina, calm and tranquil!"

Re: Chapter 1 - The One So Called "An Ordinary Day" [Othman]
Othman eyed Dolcina's efforts, noticing the potential she showed but agreeing with Horatio's assessment.  Combat was one area where Othman never excelled but he had watched enough to have a decent notion of whether someone knew what they were doing or not.  Raising his hand and smiling, he addressed Horatio and said affably, "Don't let me interrupt."

"No, no, not at all, Master Othman, Dolcina is a keen student. She quickly mastered the theory, yet she has not mastered her own panic." Horatio noted, nodding at Dolcina. Her gestures were decent, she expertly drew simple symbols in air, shooting magic missiles. Unless she was distracted. Even under stress, she did not failed a spell, but her accuracy was miserable. "This is the problem of soul mages. Due to their need of tranquillity, to tap into the power of inner mind, they have to isolate themselves from heat of combat." He spun his hand, causing targets to move in the arena. "Try to hit them Dolcina, no dangers for you now. Try to concentrate" Horatio turned to Othman. "Winds are busy blowing this day. What brings you to the arena Master Othman, is there something I can be of help?"

"I wanted to discuss young Vangelis.  The lad shows promise and I was curious what you thought of him?"  No sense gushing over the lad and Othman was curious if other members here had a similar sense of the boy's potential.  There was a chance Othman was just feeling some vicarious thrill at seeing Vangelis make his way through all the hurdles and obstacles of youth.  There were time when Othman felt his years.

"Oh, have you noticed too? I've never seen such potential for a long time, Master Othman. You should have seen him in the arena. He is one of those who able to wield both soul magic and blood magic skilfully. In theory it is not a hard thing to do actually, but in practical, one must tame his emotions to the point of unleashing them at will, while being able to bury them into a deep silence when they start disturbing. Not quite a master yet, but I'm sure he will tame them into perfection in no time. He is a skilful and avid fighter. He even took my hard level battle test and passed. Not an easy feat to achieve. I've already granted him my seal, and he headed for the Master Archibald afterwards." he spoke, in an enthusiastic tone.

"What do you think?"

"I as well have been very impressed with his progress.  Perhaps it's time we consider moving him on, giving him more opportunities to prove himself.  I fear that there is only so much worth in hunting imps here.  Just what that might be, I don't know but I wanted to discuss it with someone before going further."
