Yes.  Drag Wars, and Bulya in particular are all about the goods guys.  However, the Gritty, Low Fantasy setting of DragWars means that there are many shades of grey and opportunities for rich roleplay.

I chose the portrait of Rumplestiltskin for Colm for this reason.  He is a good guy from his own perspective.
Brother Jacob may not agree however.

Stable, The well loved King is in Monastic retreat in his tower, Kilnded the Steward is doing an admirable job of governance according to word on the street.  There are border raiders and Reiver Clans but they've been quiet this season and are expected to get quieter as Winter approaches.

Is Glissom a pagan land or do they follow the True Faith?  Where would Guillaume go to worship on Halidgae?

Glissom is the last pagan land in Ellesland they follow a very codified form of druidical worship of Brigantia, the patron goddess of Glissom. She was perhaps once a goddess of fire as tool and hearth but she is now seen as the personification of Glissom itself.

There are perhaps some similarities between a few depictions of her and Gatandes mother that may keep those of True Faith a little at ease.

The True Faith Chapel is down in Harbourside and is quite small; there are few worshippers here and with the Crusades on it is unlikely the Church will have the resources or impetus to attempt converting the Fief anytime soon.

Anyone may have sent you or you may have sent yourself; though it is noted that you spoke with the Captain whether you did it while he was with churchmen or in a bar while he was drowning his sorrows is up to you.

If it was a churchman its most likely he is acting individually rather than as part of some society. Not a lot of gold collected by the Elleslandic church is flowing back to its functionaries these days...and even a holy man has to eat.

If there is need to tighten up meetings etc. at a later date I have means available but I see no need as yet. :)

Hmmm... maybe getting drunk and passing out wasn't the best opening move. :D

hahaha, well Father Jeffries went to bed, I figured it was sleepy time.  Also my character had already been deprived of half a night's sleep and was now drunk.  I wonder what kind of trouble Kores will get up to while we sleep...  Was he drunk?

So how do the Stealth/Perception rolls work?

I thought that Stealth was the active skill, so I need to roll under (my Stealth) - (opposition Perception) on 2d10.  Is that right?  I supposed it could also work the other way around - if someone was actively searching they would need to roll over the same number on 2d10...?

You're supposed to check if people actively search from what I remember in the old book 4....

The roll was Stealth ( 17) - Perception 7 = TN 10. The 2d10 roll made was 13 + some modifiers because your initial disguise roll was so good ( -2). Result= 11. So the disguise failed but not by very much, and the accent is 100% authenticas near as can be told. So the info your new friend has is that your not the yokel you appear to be, but you seem to be from Glissom nonetheless.

If someone was actively searching I'd be rolling on behalf of the one hiding.

Bonivant may well do it differently in his games but I'll keep it simple for now cos I'm feeling old and my memory ain't the best. :)

Can I get experience points healing someone who killed a lot of orcs?  Way I see it, as it stands I only get experience points for incinerating people, not depleting my energies patching people together....

Yeah, experience will follow a similar but somewhat looser format to Good Master Bonivant. :)

So talking, roleplaying, healing, inventive use of spells etc. will all net xp.

Is the Map an ok size for people? I can't work out how to get it any bigger....

You could try to edit the original jpeg with your picture editor, then upload it again onto your destination site (I use Photobucket), then upload it again onto RPoL.  The Game Map has a 1Mb limit per map I think, which may not help.

This small chapel is the only place of worship for True Faith in the city. Though some converts have small personal shrines at home.

You may know the Father its up to you, though if you've been busy with official business you may not have had time to find out where the chapel is.  Though you probably have been told that there is one.

He's free of official business ( ie. hes met the local royalty/government/church) its pretty much merchants and minor officials from this point on. Nothing scheduled as yet.

Yes, Lesser Healing would certainly easy his pain and give him back the use of his hands, Greater healing will have him back to normal, though there will be scarring.

Hi all still on holiday until saturday sorry for lack of post this week I thought I'd have access to the Internet but my parents must live in one of the only places in Wales that is in a blck spot for phone signals. The piece was heavy and solid looking, formed from smooth ovals of what looked to be yellow gold and seated with a dozen rubies ( or at least stones that appeared to be rubies). There were stylized whorls inscribed on the gold but it appeared otherwise unadorned.

There was no clasp, it was a solid circlet....indeed to Kores eye it appeared less a necklace and more a torc. Perhaps made for a statue as it was too large for any mans head.


Can't think out loud in that other thread.  Can Kores identify anything, recognize the age from where it came from?  I did not exactly say that he was an archaeologist, but is there anything that might suggest association with gods or demons?  Kores will examine it, put it against the light.  Is Kores good enough to identify whether those stones are actual rubies?

No worries.  There's not much of a plan really.  Just go to Ciaran's and ask about the gold and silver bowls and plates that were found recently, ask about any other Selentine or pre-Selentine artifacts.  Where were they found, who found them, etc.  See them if I can. Just gather a bit of info for Kores then meet them at the Crown and Anchor or back at the Chapel.

I'm speaking Visic at the moment.  Its not my first language but I speak it well.  I can also speak Chaubrettan and Elleslandic.  Not Wagadou though!

Exceptional quality.

Scratches appear to be from being stored/ rubbing against similar items/ some utensils etc.

The stains appear organic in nature but can't tell what exactly.

so what exactly are the tenets of the True Faith?  There's not a major deal on the wiki really and all I really know is that it's more or less Christianity in the world of Legend, with a person called Gatanades in place of Jesus.  I'm surprised there hasn't been that much in regards to explanations in the books.  How are the old gods written off/included by the True Faith?  Is there a Bible?  Would Father Jeffries (and other True Faith followers) regard the demons and creatures Kores speaks of as demons that exist?

and I'm picturing Bael as being a True Faith kind of guy but what would that mean to the common people in the lands of Legends?  In this modern world people might say they're Christian but not really follow any real religious structure and not believe in demons, but I'm picturing that in the world of Legend people are probly kinda fairly hardcore about their religion.

BIG topic I know, and maybe others are hanging for some sort of essay in the Players Handbook too?

What a question!  I'll try to explain as much as I can, being a self appointed expert on the True Faith.

YES True Faith = Roman Catholic Christianity, Gatanades = Jesus, Bible = The New Testament.

Old Gods still exist in Mercania and Glissom = Norse Gods.  Some Festivals have been re-deployed.
Easter for example was the ancient Festival of fertility, The Feast of Stephen = Ancient Yule Tide

Deamons DO exist! As do Witches, Ghouls, and Goblins etc.  People have seen them, physical evidence exists.  If you don't believe, Kores will give you proof soon enough.

Out of fear, fear of the Church (Knights Capellars), fear of evil, people outwardly show complete belief in the True Faith.
Those who actively do not believe are mis-trusted (think of the anti-Communist propoganda in 50's America.)
So yes, people are fairly hardcore about their religion.

As I am aware, there will be more info in Players Handbook.  Pardon me for being brief, but don't have much time to type...

I would expect that Bael, being an Albishman from Port Clyster would be born and bred True Faith.  Same with Guillaume.  We would both have some knowledge that there are heathens and barbarians who follow pagan religions (like the Norse type gods of Thuland/Mercania, Elemental gods of Glissom, Celtic gods of Cornumbria and whatever weird gods they worship in Krarth).  Then there are the Ta'ashim lands with the religion of the same name = Islam.

So while we have these convenient similarities with historical religions, what I thought was never well explained was how the True Faith sees the obviously real magic of Legend.  Is it allowed? Tolerated? Hated and hunted? There was some mention of Sorcerors being common in Tamor in the New Selentine Empire (I think).  But all sorcerors are left handed pagans!

It will depend of course on what sort of campaign the GM wants to run, low magic or high magic.

The True Faith deals with magic in different ways in different places.  Sorcerers are allowed and tolerated by some, as long as they don't impose themselves. Hated and hunted by others.
Dogma dictates it is inherently evil, whatever it's use, and therefore White Witches (PC Sorcerers) are not recognised as such

I believe the reference to Sorcerers being common in Tamor in the Selentine Empire refers to the Old Pagan Empire. Phalanxes of Mars worshipping Priests laying waste to the enemies of Selentium...

Knight Capellar's tend to be the hardcore witch hunter types, local priest more pragmatic in the main.

Not so much soul eating going on in Wagadou, depends on Yamousous people. Are they part of the empire and therefore worship their ruler as an aspect of the bull of heaven, or are they from the forest fringes to the east and follow ancestor and totemic beliefs? Arethey from the south and keep faith in the great serpent to protect them from the Eagle who wakes the Storms, or are they west coast people whose beliefs are as varied as the wind and sea.

If he was enslaved by the empire and then trained by a magi he's not going to be that overawed by Glissom. He has seen bigger ciities and more marvellous things than most of the Gliss.

The actually writings of Gatanades say nothing about the old gods and entities of Coradia, mainly because Gat was preaching to fellow fishermen on a desert coast and knew bugger all about them.

Being a noble Bael would have had instruction from the priest attached to his fathers household, most of the peasants in rural Ellesland will go to church and also leave a stone at the old well, keep a section of field for the grain-king or leave a bowl of milk on the stoop without seeing any conflict in their own eyes.  Sorcerers bugger that up, they make loud flashy 'I'm pagan' displays that make things difficult for everyone....burning them keeps the peace. :)

Thats most of the reason I suggested the plaid rather than a random piece of linen, its thick woven wool and unlikely to rip like a piece of linen would.

As for frail, not so much but he's not a manual worker, kinda flabby, and likely to break at least one or two bones in the fall.

Kores could easily heal him but its going to be hard to convince someone to shatter their ankles on the promise that ' we'll fix you later'. :)

If its a map its a most odd one, though Guillame does note it appears similar to some of the layouts of hedgemazes he has seen back home, though much more complicated.
It is a decorative pattern, a most intricate one if it has a deeper purpose it escapes Guillame for the moment.

Is it possible to do some weapons training/sparing for a session or two?  Maybe in the Ambassadors garden/courtyard for convenience?

These are my House Rules used in A Knights Tale.

Practice and Training In-Game.

The rules state that Experience Points can be gained from non-lethal combat between  opponents, typically a Challenge to 'First Blood'.  You would receive half the normal amount of ExP for defeated an opponent in a friendly fight.  I see no reason why soldiers wouldn't train together, probaly with specially blunted weapons to avoid serious injury.  In the interest of balance and metagaming, I will allow this under strict controls.

1.  Only 1 such training session can be held in a day.  Fatigue, exhaustion, maintenance of weapons and armour are all reasons for this.

2.  Each combatant will roll a maximum of 5d20 in one session, straight ATT v DEF, for a maximum of 5 wins per session.

3.  Any 0.5 ExP awards will be rounded down.

E.G. Ansovald (2nd Rank) spars with Sir Jacob (1st Rank).  Ansovald wins 3 bouts and Sir Jacob wins 2 bouts.
Ansovald is awarded 0.5 ExP per win = 1.5 ExP, rounded down to 1 ExP.
Sir Jacob is awarded 1 ExP per win = 2 Exp.

I stumbled across an easy way to roll Dragon Warriors on the RPoL Dice Roller.

Top right on the Dice Roller Menu, marked Manual - you can just type in the sequence of dice, like 1d20,1d8,1d6.

Then in the Reason for Roll type *Weapon*, ABR, Shield Parry - as required.

This means you get a whole combat round done in one roll only!

In my old Saturday Night Tabletop, I decided to reflect historic racial trends with fantasy races.

In short - Algandy, Chaubrette, Ereworn and Selentium Races were Elves.
Kurland, Mercania, Krath, Cornumbria, Glissom, and Albion were Human.
Albion is the home of Halflings, with Dwarves living in Thurland, Glissom, Mercania etc.

This gave a more High Fantasy feel, and made spotting foreigners much easier.

On reflection this was probably a step too far, but I just wanted to diversify races to a higher degree.

Curse? What curse? Theres no curse.

Forget any mention of a curse.

Perception Check is Stealth - Perception rolled on behalf of the 'hidee' ( whether man, mouse, hidden lever etc.)

Bael has Perception of 6. Ladder has stealth of 14, tripwire has stealth of 16, and the silver coin has a stealth of 12( positioned as it is to catch the light). None of these have been placed by people with much in the way of skill or ability.

Meaning to remain hidden whilst Baels Perception is being used the roll needs to be under 8, 10, 6 respectively.

Normally obviously this would be a GM roll but in the interests of speed lets let it stand for now.

Stealth V Perception is like Attack V Defence, not Perception V Stealth.

Subtle difference, but the active characteristic is first.

In this case, we are rolling the Stealth roll for the hidden object.  The object wants to roll low to remain hidden.  We, however, want to find the object and so want it to fail its Stealth roll by getting a high result.

Or I think thats how Bulya is playing it.

I'll adjust it as Guillame is a foreigner and is in disguise but it certainly can't hurt....though whether the others in your group are willing to accept a surrender remains to be seen.

Accent is local as far as Guillame can tell but he's not completely up on the regional differences in Visic dialect in northern Ellesland.

Dann and our resident Pyromancer reckon the accents are southern Gliss or possibly northern Erewornian.

Looks like it.  Too risky to fight over the rope...  Unless we do something smart like throw a grenade up there, I'd say we'd best retreat and really interrogate the peasant..  At least we might have a better idea of what we're up against and how many civilians.

I hesitate to mention the many, many things a 4th Rank Sorcerer can accomplish......but that would mean using mps Kores needs for healing himself. :D

Why not try to cast an illusion spell frightening enough to make our foes flee? That would give us enough time to at least allow a couple of us to climb.

Illusion...  I didn't think it would amount to much, does it also do audio too?  Maybe an illusion of a firestorm...  fire without heat?

Well you could use peer to see how many are up there, tangleroots to hold one or command to cause a disturbance.  Its not too late to climb up, with a boost. So an illusion of some hideous beast that you "summon" could keep them occupied for a round or two, or make them back off a bit while Dann, Yamousou and/or Bael get up there.

The illusion does audio as well and is hard to detect.

I don't want to use Fireballs in a closed environment.  It burns up the oxygen and we could all suffocate!

Hm...  I'm sure there are lots of tricks that can be done but I can't be sure they're that effective... and it would be a one man show....  We can try storming the place the hard way later...

Bloody annoying, 3 magic points could be worth 3 experience points, I could use them on bats, or peasants....

We could try the Untouchables interrogation, where we interrogate the corpse in partial view of the enemy.
They don'y know he's already dead.  They do know he won't talk.  After some aggressive and fruitless questioning,
he gets executed.  We toss his severed head up over the cliff...

also we can return to this place with help - I'm guessing Mr Crystal isn't going too far and has been there for a long time so far so is likely to remain there in the meantime.

Hard to tell. Facial expression seems neutral to Finan and eyes are open.
