Toirneach Lann:
In reply to Brannon Darrow (msg # 979):

"I doubt we succeeded in making peace. Hmm I wonder if they mind the living using their gold?" Lann asks.

OOC: is my sense enchantment still active?

OOC: No.

Whilst applying his sapper skills, Chlainn asks the others about their encounter...

"So, what was the agreement?  Are we going to see more cattle herders get killed?"

"Aye." Brannon nods, with artificial enthusiasm - clearly relieved at Dann's suggestion. "This is not a place to linger."

Brannon turned and left the barrow, followed by Griff and Dann. Aphail hesitated at the door looking back at Chlainn and Lann with Usopi looking reticent beside them.

The warm mountain sun on their faces Brannon, Griff and Dann made their way towards the cattle who had begun to disperse through the valley to feed....

Within the tomb Chlainn noted it would take more than one man to move one of these slabs.

If they come back this way again, maybe Chlainn will be better equipped.  He doesn't mind picking up gold on the floor but having to dislodge it under the circumstances bothers him.  He'll gesture to Usopi to head and will leave.

In reply to Toirneach Lann (msg # 991):

The last of the companions exited the barrow and Chlainn and Usopi placed the sealing slab back into place.

The atmosphere in the valley was lighter and the cattle were spreading out across the pasture now seemingly unafraid.

As Chlainn and Usopi stood from placing the slab back into place a raven flew down and perched above the lintel. It cocked its head at the two men and cawed loudly then flew over towards the eastern side of the valley and alighted on an old rockslide there.

Again it cawed....

Usopi rubbed his chin, ”Well, I have heard of no legends of birds, but it does seem to want something. Regardless, we aught head over to that rock slide and get a second, heavy rock to place before this entrance, perhaps using some of these cattle to drag a particularly large one, and since we need head that way anyway, I see no reason not to inspect the area for anything the creature might lead us to.”

Usopi whistles for Gat, now that they were out of the barrow, as he made his way toward the rock slide.

Gat bounded from the southern end of the valley where he had been engaged in a stand off with a particularly intractable coo.

Usopi made his way slowly across towards the rockfall,  Gat raced towards the raven but almost comically skidded to a halt as he drew near the bird and, whining, retreated to stand beside Usopi.

The large bird let out a gurgling croak, almost like gutteral laughter to Usopis ears and tapped its heavy beak against a massive boulder.

Usopi raises an eyebrow as he pats Gat’s head to calm the hound. Warily he approaches the large rock the bird had pecked at, looking behind it before examining the boulder itself and finally, if nothing else seems curious about the rock, he gives it a tug to see if they’ll need to herd some cattle over to move it.

The huge rock shifts slightly and Usopi thinks maybe three people could safely rock it away from the pile without being crushed....

The three men hefted the massive stone and pivoted it away to thud heavily down onto the turf.

Revealed beneath where the stone had laid was a mostly crushed tangle of yellow bones, beside it jammed between two smaller boulders and tucked under a third was a gleam of golden metal items...

Re: The Southern Pagans

Dragging them out into the light and discarding some dry organic refuse that had once been a large leather satchel the men called the others over and looked their finds over.

Jewellery including a solid gold torc, a bronze torc, six bronze fibulae, six slate bracelets, plus a seventh bracelet made of amber beads.

A small golden cauldron marked with three ravens, a silver phiale, an bronze wine jug, and several silver drinking cups.

Along with them were two golden rings; one bearing a black opal the other inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

A dagger of bronze with a flint blade lay below it all.  The silver and bronze items were all slightly tarnished but it seems the mountain air had preserved them quite well.

Chlainn's eyes wander over to the bird, maybe this'll come in handy for locating treasure elsewhere.  He clutches his arbalest briefly before thinking better of that.

Lann tries to recall if he has encountered such objects in the years of warlock studies.

OOC: how long more to dusk for me to restore MPs? May I do an intel check to see if I recognize the items?
