In reply to GM (msg # 971):

If it was cavorite not calcite, this would be way easier, but magical or not, it's still movable, just a right bastard to shift. ;)

And Lann, you best be careful Caith isn't getting things confused either if you're relying on her summing up to the correct answer. If Caith always got things right she wouldn't have the scars to prove otherwise...

Re: OOC Thread 4

OK, let's see if this site is working properly today...
EDIT: Apparently, yes it is. :)

Right, Lann, if you have that fancy magical sword that cuts into rock, or so I seem to recall was mentioned in earlier IC threads, then the PCs probably have the right tool to get the whole rock off the roof, even if it won't cut right through the rock, but there's a bit of work to be done to figure out how to get it to shore.

So ropes, not one but several, and maybe a couple of logs and empty sealed barrels would do the trick to keep the stone afloat enough to stop it sinking on the way there?

That's the best plan I reckon Caith could come up with, and she'd still want Brannon  and/or Alphail to take a look at the whole thing before hacking it down with a combination of sword used as stone chisel to weaken the bit up top, and cracking it off if need be by using TANGLEROOTS to grip and break at the same time.

Bit hard to draw pictures of it while hanging from a tree root over a big lake, alas, and her scribe's box is sitting back in her pack on the lakeshore at the moment.

Alternately, the PCs could just leave the damn thing alone for now, and go find the likely kin of Garm instead.

Re: OOC Thread 4

If the sword you’re referring to is my magical two handed sword then I’d be hesitant to use it. As it was described to me the thing has a lust for blood, and in past use it seemed to magically redirect itself to get a killing blow, so I’m worried swinging it at a stone with a man in it and trying not to hit the man may be difficult.

As for moving on, I think if the operation will take more than a day we should do it on our way back from catching the mercs. I feel like we’re already a bit behind, but this detour was alright because it allowed us to stay the night in known shelter and just killed some time between our late afternoon arrival and night.

In reply to Usopi Venia (msg # 976):

I was under the impression Lann and Usopi had magic swords from the same place with the same hungry disposition, but if I am mistaken in that, then fair enough.

May as well leave it 'til the PC's have the time and the equipment handy then, and go find Garm's kin for now, frustrating as it may be.

Re: OOC Thread 4

Yeah, I think Lann has a magical sword, but I'm not certain on the properties. I think Aphail has a dagger that consumes souls? And Dann has a mace modeled after some old god? we've got a lot of weird magical toys lol.

Heading off after the mercs works for me. Assuming we're not in a rush coming back we can do the whole raft/rock drop plan, which I think would probably work.

Lann has a lousy magic sword that confers no bonus. He hopes to loot a +3 sword soon. He can also ask some minion to grab one for him.
Actually what he really needs is power... Killing more for xp.

Re: OOC Thread 4

In reply to Toirneach Lann (msg # 979):

Let me put it this way:
Lann can give himself the same bonus as a magical weapon would to hit by boosting his physical stats with magic. In short, Lann is a magic weapon.

However, whatever magic there is in that sword of Lann's, Caith would be interested to know, and she's not particularly worried by bloodthirsty swords. She hangs around with bloodthirsty warriors already.

Given Caith uses magic more than her collection of mundane weaponry, the suggestion early on of a spell that boosts her mental stats was most logical.

As to XP? There's more ways to defeat a foe than simply killing them.

If you're so keen on numbers, then perhaps Lann would be better suited to being an accountant than a warrior? Mind you, could be a bit difficult trying to find a +3 Abacus this far west...

To be fair, if all Lann is interested is adding up all the foes he's subtracted from the living, counting by hand will do just fine.

Re: OOC Thread 4

In reply to Toirneach Lann (msg # 992):

As far as tidying up the RPG environment goes, Caith's not going to leave a perfectly good mug down the cave unless it's full, and as a thank you to the guide.

Leaving Human (Or Sapient races in general) bones lying around all untidy clutters up the psychic landscape. Caith would get a clip around the ear from Great Auntie Vulgaria for not burning or burying stray human bones.

It's not like leaving old Selenite soldier's heads hanging in the sacred groves for the gods, or as a warning to would-be invaders. That's rite and ritual, and very old school ritual magic at that.

Brannon would probably frown on such old fashioned concepts, and Usopi would not be particularly happy about it either, but from Caith's POV it's just one of those things that used to be a feature of the landscape.

Re: OOC Thread 4

Usopi wouldn’t mind much if the severed heads belonged to baddies. He might try to negotiate some sort of deal between the two parties BEFORE heads got severed. :P

Also, I approve of not leaving human remains lying around if they’re innocents.

GM, how high is the wall? Chlain and I could give someone light a boost up, but I’m not sure they’d reach the top.

Re: OOC Thread 4

So whoever is tallest stands on whichever knight acts as improvised stepladder then?
As Caith is all of five foot tall, I'm guessing everyone in the party other than her would be greater in height.

As they say in the classics: "Great and wonderous power, itty bitty packaging."

Also, the OOC thread is four posts off one thousand posts, so time to start a new one.
